Bug#521225: [Pkg-samba-maint] Bug#521225: samba: mishandling of mapped read-only attribute causes failed profile sync
forwarded 521225 https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6186 thanks Quoting Jeff Sheldon (jshel...@math.lsu.edu): Package: samba Version: 2:3.3.2-1 Severity: critical Tags: patch Justification: causes serious data loss When using roaming profiles with Samba configured as a domain controller, Samba bug #6186 can cause data loss if an attempt is made to syncronize a roaming profile that includes a file that is marked read-only. This bug causes our users' roaming profiles to fail a complete sync at logoff once a file mapped as read-only tries to overwrite a previously declared read-only file on the Samba server. A patch is provided with the Samba bug report. Marking the bug as forwarded. I'll think deeper to decide whether there is enough value added by including that patch in Debian's 3.3.2 while it is quite certain that it will be in 3.3.3. Steve (put your Ubuntu hat on), maybe that would help not having this bug in jaunty as I think that you guys are freezing things to prepare the release, right? signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#521227: irssi-plugin-xmpp: Segfault when successfully identified
Hi! * Florent Fourcot florent.four...@enst-bretagne.fr [2009-03-25 23:53:05 CET]: Hi, the xmpp-plugin segfault with the new version (0.8.13~rc1-1) of irssi. It works fine with 0.8.12-6. The segfault is after a successfully identification, something like that : 1) /load xmpp 2) /xmppconnect j...@server password 3) [...] 23:45 -!- Irssi: Connection to server.truc established 4) 23:45 -!-Segfault If you need a trace, just ask. Bug#521272: doesn't work at all anymore
Package: evince Version: 2.24.2-2 Severity: grave The new evince doesn't work at all anymore. First of all, it takes ages to start (even if I don't specify a document on the command line), and when it's started, the UI doesn't function anymore (menus don't work, I can't scoll or go to the next page) and the only way to quit is by killing it. right thus please stop reopening new bugs on same issue. Well, this is same issue, but not the same bug. This bug is about another package (linux-headers-2.6.29-1-amd64, not linux-headers-2.6.28-1-amd64) which cannot be installed due to dependency on another package (linux-kbuild-2.6.29, not linux-kbuild-2.6.28) absence. So, I believe, this bug should be tracked separately from #516734. Have a nice day, Nikolay. I think that all buffer overflows should seriously be taken into consideration as they can potentially be a real security hole (remember when Debian servers were compromised even though an exploit was thought to be impossible). Now, as here the bug seems to require a large bibtex file and action from the user (assuming no tex-compilation servers), the severity can probably be lowered. Bug#521296: tp-smapi-source: FTBFSes with 2.6.29, something akin to VDIR used
Package: tp-smapi-source Version: 0.40-2 Severity: serious X-Debbugs-CC: debian-ker...@lists.debian.org Hello, tp-smapi-source does not build against linux-headers-2.6.29. The problem is that the Makefile checks for the presence of an include header, but if you check /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.29-FLAVOUR against the 2.6.28 counterpart, you’ll see that all the symlinks towards ../*-common are missing, and the toplevel Makefile does some magic to forward build requests to the ‘-common’ directory. I suggest you consider dropping the check, since Debian stable already has a kernel 2.6.19, and I guess the build would fail anyway. Hi! Following an upgrade of my sid system yesterday, I also got bitten by sbuild's chroot does not exist bug. However, the build starts correctly when calling sbuild with LC_ALL=C in the environment, so I guess this is due to the locale not getting set to C/POSIX before calling schroot -i and parsing its output. On 26.03.09 Vincent Lefevre (vinc...@vinc17.org) wrote: Hi, BTW, can bibtex8 safely be used in place of bibtex (no compatibility problems)? From the manual page: 8-bit BibTeX is an enhanced, portable C version of BibTeX 0.99. It has been enhanced in these areas: - conversion to big (32-bit) capacity - capacity selectable at run time - flexible support for non-English languages using 8-bit character sets - well matched to LateX2e and its inputenc package Oren Patashnik, the creator of BibTeX, is working on a new BibTeX 1.0 that will be a modern implementation supporting large capacities and non-English languages (see TUGboat, pages 269--274, volume 15, number 3, September 1994). He is content for this version to be released, but hopes that people will eventually migrate to BibTeX 1.0 when it is released. Its release date is uncertain at the moment. So I guess bibtex8 is compatible, but I can't really say. I'll ask some more experienced people. Bug#498260: Pinyin module unavailable
Deng Xiyue, le Mon 08 Sep 2008 22:33:35 +0800, a écrit : It is known that the building of pinyin module will result in downloading a word db which might be problematic to license issue, There are two problems: - a license problem indeed: under which license py.db is distributed? Nothing tells in the tarball, so we can't know. - py.db can not be considered as the form that permits easy modifications, so it must be rebuilt during the Debian package compilation. There actually _is_ a script for that: python/engine/PinYin/PYCreatePinYinDB.py. Problem is: the phrase files are missing, and I can't find them in the svn either. These files may pose license issues, which would actually be transmitted by the very fact of downloading py.db... So as of the current state of the upstream tarball, enabling the Pinyin module is not an option if we want to distribute scim-python in main. Else it has to go to non-free. I guess next step would be to contact upstream to know what the state of these phrase files is. but it's better to have a switch to disable building this wordlist instead of creating an eunuch ;) I'm not sure to understand what you mean. If you want, you can build the package yourself after having dropped the --disable-pinyin option from debian/rules. But that'll build a non-dfsg free package. Bug#516660: (no subject)
Now it gives the error message ValueError: ARC2 key length must be less than 128 bytes, which is fine except that less than should be less than or equal to. I'm also slightly skeptical of the (U32) in the patch, which (if it's what I think it is) will still fail on 64-bit systems for a key size of e.g. 2**32. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Moreover in some cases it even returns EINVAL instead of ENOSYS. This make userland software like glibc or coreutils unable to detect that the syscall does not exist and implement a fallback, which leads to breakage like 'touch' not working anymore. This is especially true for lenny running with a kernel from etch, and will become more true with sid with a kernel from lenny as the glibc version increases. This has been fixed in kernel 2.6.28, so kernels from etch, etchnhalf and lenny are affected. On a pristine 64-bit 2.6.29-rc8 kernel, llseek seems to always return -EINVAL. This was noticed on one of the Debian infrastructure machines where, after an upgrade, e2fsck began failing with errors like: Error reading block 524290 (Invalid argument) while getting next inode from scan. Before reassigning the bug to python-apt, I would like to get the opinion of the python-apt maintainers, hence I'm Cc-ing them. Dear python-apt developer(s), if this exception is a bug, fine, let's see how to fix it. If it is intended behaviour, I would appreciate it if you would proactively inform reverse dependency maintainers before introducing changes that would drag me to stay up overnight because after your change apt-xapian-index is throwing exception at people after every apt-get dist-upgrade, or via cron once a week. Bug#498260: Pinyin module unavailable
my 2cent: scim-python is (somehow) orphaned by upstream author, he is working on a similar project named ibus: http://code.google.com/p/ibus/ On Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 02:44, Samuel Thibault samuel.thiba...@ens-lyon.org wrote: Deng Xiyue, le Mon 08 Sep 2008 22:33:35 +0800, a écrit : It is known that the building of pinyin module will result in downloading a word db which might be problematic to license issue, There are two problems: - a license problem indeed: under which license py.db is distributed? Bug#457291: flashplugin-nonfree in Debian
Le March 7, 2009 08:09:06 am Bart Martens, vous avez écrit : [...] For example, Adobe has recently published this security advisory: http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb09-01.html Obviously this is not a security advisory on flashplugin-nonfree, but on the Adobe Flash Player itself. Debian does not officially support security for contrib and non-free, but the infrastructure is there, and packages are being distributed: http://security.debian.org/pool/updates/ Can security contrib be used for distributing an update of flashplugin-nonfree to encourage users to upgrade their installed Adobe Flash Player ? The security team could be asked, but I think that wouldn't be a problem. [...] Thoughts from users ? As an ex-Konqueror user, I didn't like to see Flash lose support for Konqueror. Other stable users must have felt the same way. This is IMO a strong argument against offering Adobe Flash just like any package. OTOH, maybe that was an exception which doesn't warrant excluding Flash forever. What could be done would be to offer to remove Flash or upgrade it every time a vulnerability is discovered in the installed version. The known regressions in the updated version could also be documented. Moreover, flashplugin-nonfree could warn the user some way (either via the extended description or when installing) that Adobe Flash may need to be removed at any time. It would help to know the frequence of security updates in Adobe Flash. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
