Bug#520113: mplayer: FTBFS: non-dynamic relocations refer to dynamic symbol free@@GLIBC_2.0

Reinhard Tartler siret...@tauware.de writes:

maybe --enable-debug in combination with our debian patch that replaces
 libavfoo/libavfoo.a with /usr/lib/libfoo.so?

pusling confirms on irc that removeing --enable-debug in combination
with our patch to use the system ffmpeg library causes think linker
failiure.

This is yet to be confirmed, but does someone from the mips porters have
some idea what could be going on here?

for pkg-multimedia, this means that we most probably need disable the
configure switch --enable-debug on mipsen. This means that we cannot
provide a functional mplayer-dbg package for mipsen.

If that is really the case, then this bug should be retitled
--enable-debug causes FTBFS on mipsen when linking to a shared
libavcodec both in debian and upstream.

Another possibility would be that our ffmpeg packages are slightly
broken on mips. However since other application do link fine, I don't
find this very likely.

Jelmer is of course right, “serious” is too high a severity for a bug
reporting violation of a policy “should” directive.

Bug#521225: [Pkg-samba-maint] Bug#521225: samba: mishandling of mapped read-only attribute causes failed profile sync

Quoting Jeff Sheldon (jshel...@math.lsu.edu):
 Package: samba
 Version: 2:3.3.2-1
 Severity: critical
 Tags: patch
 Justification: causes serious data loss

When using roaming profiles with Samba configured as a domain controller,
Samba bug #6186 can cause data loss if an attempt is made to syncronize a
roaming profile that includes a file that is marked read-only.

This bug causes our users' roaming profiles to fail a complete sync at
logoff once a file mapped as read-only tries to overwrite a previously
declared read-only file on the Samba server.

A patch is provided with the Samba bug report.

Marking the bug as forwarded. I'll think deeper to decide whether
there is enough value added by including that patch in Debian's 3.3.2
while it is quite certain that it will be in 3.3.3.

Steve (put your Ubuntu hat on), maybe that would help not having this
bug in jaunty as I think that you guys are freezing things to prepare
the release, right?

Though there is now a workaround, the program should never crash

gamin fails to build with glibc 2.8 (in Ubuntu Jaunty) because 'struct
ucred' is now only available if _GNU_SOURCE is defined. The attached
patch defines _GNU_SOURCE in the translation units that need 'struct

I have been getting this error for the past 24 hours. It does not seem
to be just going away, like it used to. I originaly (yesterday) used
ftp.us.debian.org, but then went to ftp.debian.org to make sure that it
was not just a problem of mirror. Unless ftp.debian.org does send me to
a mirror after all.

Yes, that is what I have in mind.

I wonder if that is enough to fix the build on mips or if we need to
remove the --enable-debug in addition (and only on mips).

Bug#521227: irssi-plugin-xmpp: Segfault when successfully identified

2009-03-26 Thread Gerfried Fuchs
Hi!

* Florent Fourcot florent.four...@enst-bretagne.fr [2009-03-25 23:53:05 CET]:
 Hi,
the xmpp-plugin segfault with the new version (0.8.13~rc1-1) of irssi. It
 works fine with 0.8.12-6.
The segfault is after a successfully identification, something like that :
  1) /load xmpp
  2) /xmppconnect j...@server password
  3) [...] 23:45 -!- Irssi: Connection to server.truc established
  4) 23:45 -!-Segfault

If you need a trace, just ask. But I think that it is very easy to
 reproduce...

If you could get a backtrace from gdb that would be helpful, yes. For
me (on powerpc) it doesn't segfault - though it doesn't work neither:

#v+
11:26 -!- Irssi: Looking up ejabber.domain
11:26 -!- Irssi: Connecting to ejabber.domain [xxx.yyy.z.aaa] port 5222

I'm not completely sure wether to suggest a rebuild because I'm not
sure if this should be related to the update. If you want to give a
local rebuild a try you have my blessing - I'll try myself.

 So long!

Bug#521272: doesn't work at all anymore

2009-03-26 Thread Bas Zoetekouw
Package: evince
Version: 2.24.2-2
Severity: grave

The new evince doesn't work at all anymore. First of all, it takes
ages to start (even if I don't specify a document on the command
line), and when it's started, the UI doesn't function anymore (menus
don't work, I can't scoll or go to the next page) and the only way to
quit is by killing it. At startup, strace show that it's waiting for
some dbus thingy:

socket(PF_FILE, SOCK_STREAM, 0) = 7
connect(7, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path=@/tmp/dbus-SzwEn5eSpJ}, 23) = 0
[...]
read(7, l\2\1\1\t\0\0\0\3\0\0\0=\0\0\0\6\1s\0\5\0\0\0:1.42\0\0\0..., 2048) =

read(7, 0x7085c0, 2048) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily
unavailable)
writev(7, [{l\1\1\1\210\0\0\0\3\0\0\0\177\0\0\0\1\1o\0\25\0\0\0/org/fre...,
144}, {\203\0\0\0type='signal',sender='org.fr..., 136}], 2) = 280
writev(7, [{l\1\1\1z\0\0\0\4\0\0\0\177\0\0\0\1\1o\0\25\0\0\0/org/fre...,

writev(7, [{l\1\0\1\20\0\0\0\5\0\0\0\230\0\0\0\1\1o\0#\0\0\0/org/gno...,
168}, {\6\0\0\0Evince\0\0\1\0\0\0, 16}], 2) = 184
poll([{fd=7, events=POLLIN}], 1, 25000) = 1 ([{fd=7, revents=POLLIN}])
read(7, l\2\1\1\0\0\0\0\4\0\0\0005\0\0\0\6\1s\0\5\0\0\0:1.42\0\0\0..., 2048)
= 144
read(7, 0x7085c0, 2048) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily
unavailable)
poll([{fd=7, events=POLLIN}], 1, 25000^C unfinished ...

After which it hangs for a long time. After it has then started, it hangs on
polls like these:

poll([{fd=4, events=POLLIN}, {fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=7, events=POLLIN},
{fd=8, events=POLLIN}, {fd=9, events=POLLIN}, {fd=12, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI},
{fd=14, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=15, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=16,
events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=6, events=POLLIN}], 10, 0) = 0 (Timeout)
writev(7, [{l\1\0\1\20\0\0\0\f\0\0\0\230\0\0\0\1\1o\0#\0\0\0/org/gno...,
168}, {\6\0\0\0Evince\0\0\1\0\0\0, 16}], 2) = 184
poll([{fd=7, events=POLLIN}], 1, 25000

or

poll([{fd=4, events=POLLIN}, {fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=7, events=POLLIN},
{fd=8, events=POLLIN}, {fd=9, events=POLLIN}, {fd=12, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI},
{fd=14, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=15, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=16,
events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=6, events=POLLIN}], 10, -1

Downgrading to the 2.22 version in testing makes evince functional
again.

2009-03-26 Thread Nikolay Panov
right thus please stop reopening new bugs on same issue.

Well, this is same issue, but not the same bug. This bug is about
another package (linux-headers-2.6.29-1-amd64, not
linux-headers-2.6.28-1-amd64) which cannot be installed due to
dependency on another package (linux-kbuild-2.6.29, not
linux-kbuild-2.6.28) absence.
So, I believe, this bug should be tracked separately from #516734.

Have a nice day,
   Nikolay.

Well, this is same issue, but not the same bug. This bug is about
 another package (linux-headers-2.6.29-1-amd64, not

Bug#521272: doesn't work at all anymore

The new evince doesn't work at all anymore. First of all, it takes
ages to start (even if I don't specify a document on the command
line), and when it's started, the UI doesn't function anymore (menus
don't work, I can't scoll or go to the next page) and the only way to
quit is by killing it. At startup, strace show that it's waiting for
 some dbus thingy:

 socket(PF_FILE, SOCK_STREAM, 0) = 7
 connect(7, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path=@/tmp/dbus-SzwEn5eSpJ}, 23) = 0

Is dbus-x11 installed?

If it is, please show the list of running processes at that time,

to security problems, hence the severity.)

I've got the following error with bibtex (someone else here
mentioned the same problem on a different machine, but on the same
set of files, possibly a slightly different version). Unfortenately
I don't have a simple testcase (I'll try to make one, but this may

I can reproduce the problem using bibtex. Then I tried bibtex8 and
could generate a livre_fp.bbl file (blg file is attached). Do you
still assume it an user security hole, which justifies the severity
grave or can you accept the work around and hence a lower severity?

I've set that in doubt. I think that all buffer overflows should
seriously be taken into consideration as they can potentially be a
real security hole (remember when Debian servers were compromised
even though an exploit was thought to be impossible).

Now, as here the bug seems to require a large bibtex file and action
from the user (assuming no tex-compilation servers), the severity
can probably be lowered.

BTW, can bibtex8 safely be used in place of bibtex (no compatibility
problems)?

When i try apt-get check there is now error message!

In the ldd before you can see that there are dependencies to different versions
of
the same libraries.
That's really strange.

I attached a complete list of dpkg -l

Now i tried to reinstall nslookup with apt-get install dnsutils

After that the ldd looks O.K.

Bug#521296: tp-smapi-source: FTBFSes with 2.6.29, something akin to VDIR used

2009-03-26 Thread Adeodato Simó
Package: tp-smapi-source
Version: 0.40-2
Severity: serious
X-Debbugs-CC: debian-ker...@lists.debian.org

Hello,

tp-smapi-source does not build against linux-headers-2.6.29. The problem
is that the Makefile checks for the presence of an include header, but
if you check /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.29-FLAVOUR against the 2.6.28
counterpart, you’ll see that all the symlinks towards ../*-common are
missing, and the toplevel Makefile does some magic to forward build
requests to the ‘-common’ directory.

I suggest you consider dropping the check, since Debian stable already
has a kernel 2.6.19, and I guess the build would fail anyway.

Thanks,

Bug#520755: sbuild needs to reset locale when calling schroot.

2009-03-26 Thread Daniel Kobras
Hi!

Following an upgrade of my sid system yesterday, I also got bitten by
sbuild's chroot does not exist bug. However, the build starts
correctly when calling sbuild with LC_ALL=C in the environment, so I
guess this is due to the locale not getting set to C/POSIX before
calling schroot -i and parsing its output.

Regards,

Daniel.

Ah, thanks for finding that. I didn't realise this was a locale issue.

I'll have a look at this over the weekend and get a new release
ready.

Bug#520920: texlive-base-bin: bibtex crashes on realloc (invalid next size)

2009-03-26 Thread Hilmar Preusse
On 26.03.09 Vincent Lefevre (vinc...@vinc17.org) wrote:

Hi,

BTW, can bibtex8 safely be used in place of bibtex (no
 compatibility problems)?

From the manual page:

8-bit BibTeX is an enhanced, portable C version of BibTeX
0.99. It has been enhanced in these areas:

   - conversion to big (32-bit) capacity
   - capacity selectable at run time
   - flexible support for non-English languages using 8-bit
 character sets
   - well matched to LateX2e and its inputenc package

Oren Patashnik, the creator of BibTeX, is working on a new
BibTeX 1.0 that will be a modern implementation supporting
large capacities and non-English languages (see TUGboat, pages
269--274, volume 15, number 3, September 1994). He is content
for this version to be released, but hopes that people will
eventually migrate to BibTeX 1.0 when it is released. Its
release date is uncertain at the moment.

So I guess bibtex8 is compatible, but I can't really say. I'll ask
some more experienced people.

Bug#515348: Depends on GTK 1.2

2009-03-26 Thread Barry deFreese

Hi,

Here are some changes I made against the new upstream 1.9 version. It
does build but I am sure it needs some work. For one thing I didn't
know what to do with gdk_send_xevent.

I've sent this to upstream but he doesn't seem that motivated to fix it.

Thanks,

Hello,

I am currently running etchnhalf on amd64, and am trying to compile
libapache-mod-security from testing.
I have added this in my /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ testing main non-free contrib

apt-get build-dep works just fine, but then:

I have been getting this error for the past 24 hours. It does not seem
to be just going away, like it used to. I originaly (yesterday) used
ftp.us.debian.org, but then went to ftp.debian.org to make sure that it
was not just a problem of mirror. Unless ftp.debian.org does send me to
a mirror after all.

Bug#498260: Pinyin module unavailable

2009-03-26 Thread Samuel Thibault
Deng Xiyue, le Mon 08 Sep 2008 22:33:35 +0800, a écrit :
It is known that the building of pinyin module will result in
downloading a word db which might be problematic to license issue,

There are two problems:
- a license problem indeed: under which license py.db is distributed?
Nothing tells in the tarball, so we can't know.
- py.db can not be considered as the form that permits easy
modifications, so it must be rebuilt during the Debian
package compilation. There actually _is_ a script for that:
  python/engine/PinYin/PYCreatePinYinDB.py. Problem is: the phrase
files are missing, and I can't find them in the svn either. These
files may pose license issues, which would actually be transmitted by
the very fact of downloading py.db...

So as of the current state of the upstream tarball, enabling the Pinyin
module is not an option if we want to distribute scim-python in main.
Else it has to go to non-free.

I guess next step would be to contact upstream to know what the state of
these phrase files is.

but it's better to have a switch to disable building this wordlist
instead of creating an eunuch ;)

I'm not sure to understand what you mean. If you want, you can build
the package yourself after having dropped the --disable-pinyin option
from debian/rules. But that'll build a non-dfsg free package.

Samuel

Now it gives the error message ValueError: ARC2 key length must be less than

I'm also slightly skeptical of the (U32) in the patch, which (if it's what I
think it is) will still fail on 64-bit systems for a key size of e.g. 2**32.

Hi,

Gtk1.2 will not be shipping with Squeeze so libdv will either
need to be ported to Gtk2 or removed from the archive.

It seems that playdv is the only package using Gtk and can be built
without Gtk. Removing the build-depends on libglib1.2 and libgtk1.2 and
passing --disable-gtk seems to build fine.

Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.18.dfsg.1-24
Severity: critical
Tags: patch
Justification: breaks unrelated software

Uninexistant syscalls on mips/mipsel return -ENOSYS errno instead of
ENOSYS. Moreover in some cases it even returns EINVAL instead of ENOSYS.
This make userland software like glibc or coreutils unable to detect
that the syscall does not exist and implement a fallback, which leads
to breakage like 'touch' not working anymore.

This is especially true for lenny running with a kernel from etch, and
will become more true with sid with a kernel from lenny as the glibc
version increases.

This has been fixed in kernel 2.6.28, so kernels from etch, etchnhalf
and lenny are affected. The patch series below applies for all of
them.

Note - this bug affects upstream 2.6.29 as well, but I believe the
Debian 2.6.28 packages are ok (the mips-specific changes for
CVE-2009-0029 happened later).

Subject: syscall wrapper changes cause llseek failure

hey,
I had a report today of a possible regression caused by the syscall
wrapper changes. On a pristine 64-bit 2.6.29-rc8 kernel, llseek seems
to always return -EINVAL. This was noticed on one of the Debian
infrastructure machines where, after an upgrade, e2fsck began failing
with errors like:

Error reading block 524290 (Invalid argument) while getting next inode
  from scan. Ignore errory?

I believe this is due to the syswrapper changes because its easy to
reproduce with Debian's 2.6.26 patched w/ the syswrapper changes, but
goes away if we back the syswrapper changes back out.

I compared strace output between a working and failing kernel:

no syscall wrappers:
_llseek(3, 2147491840, [2147491840], SEEK_SET) = 0
_llseek(3, 2147524608, [2147524608], SEEK_SET) = 0

syscall wrappers:
_llseek(3, 2147491840, 0x7fa5d7f0, SEEK_SET) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument)
_llseek(3, 2147491840, 0x7fa5d6d0, SEEK_SET) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument)

What is confusing me is the comment that says

Package: libts-0.0-0
Version: 1.0-4
Severity: serious

Hi,

when installing the 32bit flavour of libts-0.0-0 via ia32-apt-get the
following error occurs:

Warning: conffiles might conflict
dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/ia32-libts-0.0-0_1.0-5~13_amd64.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/etc/ts.conf', which is also in package libts-0.0-0

The reason I set this to serious is that same error will hapen the
next time the soversion is bumped. Please split out the conffile into
libts-common.

Goswin

It looks like the new python-apt introduced some different behaviour, or
some bug. Before reassigning the bug to python-apt, I would like to get
the opinion of the python-apt maintainers, hence I'm Cc-ing them.

I see that the python-apt method that throws an exception (the
rawDescription property) also throws a DeprecationWarning.

Dear python-apt developer(s), if this exception is a bug, fine, let's
see how to fix it. If it is intended behaviour, I would appreciate it

introducing changes that would drag me to stay up overnight because
after your change apt-xapian-index is throwing exception at people after
every apt-get dist-upgrade, or via cron once a week.

If your package contains files whose names do not change with each change in
the library shared object version, you must not put them in the shared
library package. Otherwise, several versions of the shared library cannot be
installed at the same time without filename clashes, making upgrades and
 transitions unnecessarily difficult.

In particular, this keeps me from installing experimental liferea and unstable
gimp at the same time. (Well, the experimental liferea I'm about to upload in
a couple hours, rather).

Please move the libexec files to a different package.

Package: libsqlite3-dev
Version: 3.6.11-1
Severity: important

Starting from this version, the libtool generated /usr/lib/libsqlite.la
declares a dependency on -licui18n

This dependency is not needed, as correctly declared by the pkg-config file.
Having it there causes unrelated packages to FTBFS, as this package is not
declaring a
Depends: libicu-dev

Please either fix the .la file, remove it completely, or add a Depends: line to
the package. I believe removing the file shuld have no ill effects, but I'm not
really qualified to say for certain.

There is no plausible way that this is a GDB bug.  It's going to be a
 problem with your kernel.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay. I've brought the problem up on the xen list and
it does indeed seem to be a kernel problem - feel free to close this,
I guess.

flx_pkgconfig segfaults on the thread_frame_creator() call, and that is
because on ia64 function pointers are not like object pointers. The
attached patch is needed to let the compiler know that it should use the
addresses of function descriptors, not of the code of the functions.

There is however one bug during the testsuite:

Bug#457291: too hard to install the right way

2009-03-26 Thread Filipus Klutiero
Le March 20, 2009 06:52:46 pm Joey Hess, vous avez écrit :
The decision was wrong, because, out of fear of introducing new features
into stable / volatile, it made flashplugin-nonfree too hard to install
 via Debian.
The fear is not really to introduce new features, but to introduce
regressions.

[...]

 * Popcon data[2] indicates that 50% of desktop users install
flashplugin-nonfree, but another 15% go to adobe.com and download their
 adobe-flashplugin deb[3] directly.
Note that there's also flashplayer-mozilla:

Package: flashplayer-mozilla 2831 347 1116 994

Bug#457291: flashplugin-nonfree in Debian

2009-03-26 Thread Filipus Klutiero
Le March 7, 2009 08:09:06 am Bart Martens, vous avez écrit :

[...]

For example, Adobe has recently published this security advisory:
 http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb09-01.html
Obviously this is not a security advisory on flashplugin-nonfree, but on
the Adobe Flash Player itself. Debian does not officially support
security for contrib and non-free, but the infrastructure is there, and
 packages are being distributed:
 http://security.debian.org/pool/updates/
Can security contrib be used for distributing an update of
flashplugin-nonfree to encourage users to upgrade their installed Adobe
 Flash Player ?
The security team could be asked, but I think that wouldn't be a problem.

[...]

Thoughts from users ?
As an ex-Konqueror user, I didn't like to see Flash lose support for
Konqueror. Other stable users must have felt the same way. This is IMO a
strong argument against offering Adobe Flash just like any package.
OTOH, maybe that was an exception which doesn't warrant excluding Flash
forever.

What could be done would be to offer to remove Flash or upgrade it every time
a vulnerability is discovered in the installed version. The known regressions
in the updated version could also be documented. Moreover,
flashplugin-nonfree could warn the user some way (either via the extended
description or when installing) that Adobe Flash may need to be removed at
any time.

It would help to know the frequence of security updates in Adobe Flash.

Package: wengophone
Version: 2.1.2.dfsg0-6
Severity: serious

Hi,

Your package is failing to build with the following error:
CMake Error at owbuild/FindFFMPEG.cmake:138 (message):
  Could not find FFmpeg
Call Stack (most recent call first):
  libs/3rdparty/ffmpeg/CMakeLists-external.txt:2 (find_package)
  libs/3rdparty/ffmpeg/CMakeLists.txt:10 (include)

-- Configuring incomplete, errors occurred!
make: *** [obj-x86_64-linux-gnu/CMakeCache.txt] Error 1

The problem here is that the includes files changed location,
like ffmpeg/avcodec.h to libavcodec/avcodec.h, and the package will
need to be changed for that.

Kurt
