Bug#527025: samba: location of private dir is wrong
Package: samba Version: 3.2.5-4 Severity: serious For a reason I can't explain but could very well be a mistake of mine at some moment, we currently use /var/lib/samba for private dir. That will indeed be the very last remaining of the FHS patches. This is the location where passdb.tdb|smbpasswd files are kept (when using tdbsam or smbpasswd as passdb backend) as well as secrets.tdb that containssecrets... (such as machine accounts passwords). We need to change this as this is certainly a violation of the policy...but, of course, we need to provide a mimgration path in maintainer scripts. I version-tag this for versions in lenny in case we decide to fix that issue for lenny. -- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? As a reference, see these build logs [1] [2]. The problem comes from the patch named 90_dont-link-gstcheck-with-check.patch: The subst function doesn't handle commas in its parameters and needs a new variable containing a comma as a workaround (for more information, see gnumake's manual [3]). I provided this debdiff [4] for Ubuntu but we would appreciate if this fix can be introduced in Debian. In order of preference: 1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments 2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging the upstream archive and adding 'dfsg' to the Debian package version name. 3. Move the package to non-free. Bug#527057: console-setup: insecure tempfile handling
Package: console-setup Version: 1.33 Severity: grave User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com Usertags: origin-ubuntu karmic While merging console-setup 1.33 into Ubuntu, I happened to notice that debian/config.proto contains a few instances of code like this: echo unsupported_layout=$unsupported_layout /tmp/cslog # asdf We can't leave this sort of thing in packages uploaded to the archive, IMO; that means that any local user on a system they know is likely to be upgraded soon can create a symlink called /tmp/cslog and have root overwrite any file they like. (Admittedly they can only get root to write out rather specific text to that file, but it would still be enough to break the system if they just wanted to be randomly destructive.) Anton, I'm filing this bug rather than just correcting it because I'm not sure what you want to achieve here. Was it just code you committed by accident, or do you explicitly want to have extra logging in the package? If the latter, I'd suggest perhaps calls to logger(1) guarded by an environment variable. Usually it's also possible to stack configuration sets, combining the customizations provided by a number of profiles. . This package offers a standard cross-desktop way of managing the conditional activation of available profiles. As such it is useful to both administrators (allowing different configurations for different sets of users) and CDD's (who want to have a configuration customized for a certain target group). . This package currently supports setting up profiles for KDE, GNOME, ROX, Xfce (=4.2), GNUSTEP, UDE, and Freedesktop. Freedesktop profiles allow you to do a (growing amount of) cross-desktop customization, while the other profile kinds allow you to customize the respective desktop environments to various degrees. Bug#527045: libalberta2-dev: Missing dependencies on libgl1-dev, libx11-dev and libblas3gf
Hi Sylvestre, Sylvestre Ledru schrieb am Di, 05. Mai 2009, um 11:23:53 +0200: If I understand correctly, if I add these libraries to the dependencies of libalberta2-dev, this will fix your problem? I didn't carefully check the list of dependencies I gave. But if you install libalberta2-dev without the mentioned (or swimilar) packages, you can't use it at all. The package basically contains a library to statically link against, but you can't link against this library because prerequisite libraries are not present. (I wouldn't actually consider this my problem; the package is unusable without the prerequisites installed.) Basically, the dependencies of this package should be the same as the dependencies of the libalberta2 package with added -dev to each package name. (So in the list I gave, there is at least one mistake -- the last package should be libblas3gf-dev. Additionally, there might be alternatives to these packages which could be listed as alternative dependencies -- I did not investigate this.) (Note that the packages already built will not break upon upgrade, only those built against the newer python-support version will fail.) Linking directly public modules to a private modules directory also looks very wrong; if the package is built for several versions, the private modules will only be available for one Python version, and they will become out of sync if the default Python version changes. Therefore, here are the possible approaches I’d recommend to fix this issue: * Fix the software so that it doesn’t need to mix private and public modules. * Use only the public modules and replace the symlinks by wrapper modules (in pure Python) that just import the contents of the public module *for the current Python version*. * If this is really not possible, you can write a rtupdate script that sets up and updates the symbolic links according to the default Python version, but it is more complicated. As a general rule, please avoid relying on the internals of python-support in the packaging unless necessary; this will avoid such issues in the future (although hopefully there won’t be a need to change the paths any further). Bug#527091: libvoikko1: Does not work with voikko-fi version 1.3-1
Package: libvoikko1 Version: 2.1-2 Severity: grave The location for morphological data files has changed in version 2.1 of libvoikko. voikko-fi version 1.3-1 still places the data files in the old location. Therefore upgrading libvoikko from 2.0-2 to 2.1-2 makes the library fail with the following error: $ voikkospell E: Initialization of Voikko failed: No valid dictionaries were found This makes the library unusable, unless the user has manually installed suitable morphological data files under $HOME/.voikko/1/mor-standard (quite unlikely for ordinary users). To avoid breakage, this version libvoikko1 should not be coinstallable with current or previous version of voikko-fi. I believe that Breaks or Conflicts should be added against old versions of voikko-fi and a new version of voikko-fi should be uploaded that places the files in correct location and declares similar conflicts against older versions of libvoikko1. Bug#521918: pbuilder --build --binary-arch invokes 'build' target
Hi, I was trying to attend a reported bug (#521918) of a recently uploaded package 'eprover', but unfortunately I didn't know what to do about it. I've already asked on debian-mentors, but nobody replied. The problem is that if pbuilder is invoked with --binary-arch, it still tries to build the whole project, including the documentation (indep). But the tools required to build the documentation are missing, since they are specified in Build-Depends-Indep:, not in Build-Depends:. It looks to me as if the problem is with pbuilder (or with the tools it's invoking), but of course the problem might as well be my ignorance. The only solution I thought of so far was to put the tools for building the documentation into Build-Depends:, but this seems to me (at least) as improper. Could anyone help me, either by advising how to properly solve the problem, or by pointing out what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance, Petr On Sun, Apr 26, 2009 at 04:22:42PM +0200, d...@pudlak.name wrote: Hi, I'm trying to address bug #521918 http://bugs.debian.org/521918. When I run pbuilder as pbuilder --build --binary-arch eprover_1.0.004-1.dsc so that it should build only the binary target, it seems to me that it still invokes the 'debian/rules build' target, instead of 'build-arch' (or 'binary-arch'?), which I'd expect. This way, the building process fails, since it tries to build the documentation, but it's missing Build-Depends-Indep packages (LaTeX, tex4ht, etc.). Am I doing something wrong? Could someone more experienced recommend me how to solve this problem? Bug#521918: pbuilder --build --binary-arch invokes 'build' target

They can't do anything else, because the build-arch target is (still) not required. Whatever's needed for this needs to be in Build-Depends. Basically the only place you're allowed to use the Build-Depends-Indep stuff is the binary-indep target. There's a long-standing bug on debian-policy about this, IIRC.
Hello, On Tue, 05 May 2009, Petr Pudlak wrote: The problem is that if pbuilder is invoked with --binary-arch, it still tries to build the whole project, including the documentation (indep). It looks to me as if the problem is with pbuilder (or with the tools it's invoking), but of course the problem might as well be my ignorance. If you invoke pbuilder --binary-arch then it in turn invokes debian/rules binary-arch. So it looks as if your binary-arch target is running the complete build target. In the case of the tex4ht package I have chosen to create two targets build-arch and build-indep which are invoked by the appropriate binary-* targets. You can browse the SVN repo of the debian directory of the tex4ht package on svn.debian.org http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/collab-maint/deb-maint/tex4ht/trunk/debian/rules to see this. Instead of adding python-setuptools to Build-Depends: python-support was moved from Build-Depends-Indep: to Build-Depends: and it doesn't fix this issue. Bug#527004: remctl: FTBFS: LTOPTIONS_VERSION is m4_require'd but not m4_defun'd
This appears to be php5-dev breakage as near as I can tell. It looks like phpize is only copying over libtool.m4 and not all of the other supporting libtool M4 files as required for the libtool 2.x.
