Bug#527025: samba: location of private dir is wrong

2009-05-05 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: samba
Version: 3.2.5-4
Severity: serious

For a reason I can't explain but could very well be a mistake of mine
at some moment, we currently use /var/lib/samba for private dir.

That will indeed be the very last remaining of the FHS patches.

This is the location where passdb.tdb|smbpasswd files are kept (when
using tdbsam or smbpasswd as passdb backend) as well as secrets.tdb
that containssecrets... (such as machine accounts passwords).

We need to change this as this is certainly a violation of the
policy...but, of course, we need to provide a mimgration path in
maintainer scripts.

I version-tag this for versions in lenny in case we decide to fix
that issue for lenny.

What? What are you expecting to use *instead* of /var/lib/samba?

add -D_GNU_SOURCE to the CFLAGS setting in debian/rules to fix it.

In Ubuntu Karmic, this package FTBFS.
As a reference, see these build logs [1] [2].

The problem comes from the patch named
 90_dont-link-gstcheck-with-check.patch:
The subst function doesn't handle commas in its parameters and needs a
new variable containing a comma as a workaround (for more information,
 see gnumake's manual [3]).

I provided this debdiff [4] for Ubuntu but we would appreciate if this
fix can be introduced in Debian.

Thanks, I'll include this patch with the next upload in the next days :)

Bug#525310: pdfsam-console won't start (missing required file)

I'm just a pdfsam (newbie) user, but I cannot reproduce this in spite
of being using the same JVM as yours. pdfsam-console starts without
complaining about a missing .jar (even though I've been thus far
totally unable to make it doing something useful, the total lack of
documentation does not help in that respect ...).

The content of my pdfsam's lib dir is as follows:

z...@usha:~$ ls /usr/share/pdfsam/lib/
dom4j.jaritext.jar log4j-1.2.jar pdfsam-console-2.0.0e.jar
pdfsam-langpack.jar
emp4j-1.0.1.jar jaxen.jar looks.jar pdfsam-jcmdline-1.0.3.jar

Note that the CLASSPATH output by pdfsam-console (as debug message?)
here mentions the 2.0.0e.jar file and not the 2.0.1e.jar you mention
in your bug report.

Cheers.

Bug#527053: Source package contains non-free IETF RFC/I-D

2009-05-05 Thread Simon Josefsson
Severity: serious
Package: erlang
Version: 1:13.b-dfsg-2
User: debian-rele...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: nonfree-doc rfc

Hi!

This source package contains the following files from the
IETF under non-free license terms:

+ otp_src_R13B/lib/inets/doc/archive/rfc959.txt
+ otp_src_R13B/lib/inets/doc/archive/rfc1123.txt
+ otp_src_R13B/lib/inets/doc/archive/rfc2068.txt
+ otp_src_R13B/lib/inets/doc/archive/rfc2616.txt
+ otp_src_R13B/lib/inets/doc/archive/rfc2616.pdf
+ otp_src_R13B/lib/inets/doc/archive/rfc2145.txt
+ otp_src_R13B/lib/inets/doc/archive/rfc2428.txt
+ otp_src_R13B/lib/inets/doc/archive/rfc2577.txt

Further, the file

+ otp_src_R13B/lib/inets/doc/archive/rfc1945.html

contains a HTML version of RFC 1945 (the HTML spec) but the top of that
file says:

The contents of this file are subject to the Erlang Public License,
Version 1.1, (the License); you may not use this file except in
compliance with the License. You should have received a copy of the
Erlang Public License along with this software. If not, it can be
retrieved via the world wide web at http://www.erlang.org/.

Software distributed under the License is distributed on an AS IS
basis, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, either express or implied. See
the License for the specific language governing rights and limitations
 under the License.

The Initial Developer of the Original Code is Ericsson Utvecklings AB.
Portions created by Ericsson are Copyright 1999, Ericsson Utvecklings
 AB. All Rights Reserved.

I suspect this is an incorrect copyright claim.

The license on RFC/I-Ds is not DFSG-free, see:
 * http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810
 * http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation
 * http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

The lenny/squeeze release policy says binary and source packages must each be
free:
 * http://release.debian.org/lenny/rc_policy.txt
 * http://release.debian.org/squeeze/rc_policy.txt

The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy:
 * http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg

There are (at least) three ways to fix this problem. In order of
preference:

1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free
license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at
   http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging
the upstream archive and adding 'dfsg' to the Debian package
   version name.

3. Move the package to non-free.

General discussions are kindly requested to take place on debian-legal
or debian-devel in the thread with Subject: Non-free IETF RFC/I-Ds in
source packages.

Thanks,
Simon

Bug#527057: console-setup: insecure tempfile handling

2009-05-05 Thread Colin Watson
Package: console-setup
Version: 1.33
Severity: grave
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu karmic

While merging console-setup 1.33 into Ubuntu, I happened to notice that
debian/config.proto contains a few instances of code like this:

echo unsupported_layout=$unsupported_layout /tmp/cslog # asdf

We can't leave this sort of thing in packages uploaded to the archive,
IMO; that means that any local user on a system they know is likely to
be upgraded soon can create a symlink called /tmp/cslog and have root
overwrite any file they like. (Admittedly they can only get root to
write out rather specific text to that file, but it would still be
enough to break the system if they just wanted to be randomly
destructive.)

Anton, I'm filing this bug rather than just correcting it because I'm
not sure what you want to achieve here. Was it just code you committed
by accident, or do you explicitly want to have extra logging in the
package? If the latter, I'd suggest perhaps calls to logger(1) guarded
by an environment variable.

Thanks,

Bug#527057: console-setup: insecure tempfile handling

This happened by accident. I will correct this the next 1-2 hours.

Description: framework for setting up desktop profiles
The different Desktop environments in Debian all offer the possibility of
customizing them through the use of profiles (sets of configuration and/or
data files). Usually it's also possible to stack configuration sets,
combining the customizations provided by a number of profiles.
 .
This package offers a standard cross-desktop way of managing the conditional
activation of available profiles. As such it is useful to both administrators
(allowing different configurations for different sets of users) and CDD's
(who want to have a configuration customized for a certain target group).
 .
This package currently supports setting up profiles for KDE, GNOME, ROX,
Xfce (=4.2), GNUSTEP, UDE, and Freedesktop. Freedesktop profiles allow
you to do a (growing amount of) cross-desktop customization, while the
other profile kinds allow you to customize the respective desktop environments
 to various degrees.

Description: GRand Unified Bootloader, version 2 (PC/BIOS version)
GRUB is a portable, powerful bootloader. This version of GRUB is based on a
cleaner design than its predecessors, and provides the following new features:
 .
  - Scripting in grub.cfg using BASH-like syntax.
  - Support for modern partition maps such as GPT.
  - Modular generation of grub.cfg via update-grub. Packages providing GRUB
add-ons can plug in their own script rules and trigger updates by invoking
update-grub2.
  - VESA-based graphical mode with background image support and complete 24-bit
color set.
  - Support for extended charsets. Users can write UTF-8 text to their menu
entries.
 .
This package contains a version of GRUB that has been built for use with
 traditional PC/BIOS architecture.

Description: user-space tools for Linux-VServer virtual private servers
The util-vserver project provides the user-space tools for creating and
managing the virtualization technology known as Linux-Vserver guests.
Linux-Vserver guests are a significantly advanced jail mechanism running
inside a host GNU-Linux server. Linux-Vserver guests can be used to
securely partition resources such as processes, memory, network; logically
separate services or run entirely different distributions all on a single
system. Virtual private servers are separated from each other through security
contexts, and as a result are completely unaware of each other, or of the
 host itself.

Bug#527045: libalberta2-dev: Missing dependencies on libgl1-dev, libx11-dev and libblas3gf

2009-05-05 Thread Sven Marnach
Hi Sylvestre,

Sylvestre Ledru schrieb am Di, 05. Mai 2009, um 11:23:53 +0200:
If I understand correctly, if I add these libraries to the
dependencies of libalberta2-dev, this will fix your problem?

I didn't carefully check the list of dependencies I gave. But if you
install libalberta2-dev without the mentioned (or swimilar) packages,
you can't use it at all. The package basically contains a library to
statically link against, but you can't link against this library
because prerequisite libraries are not present. (I wouldn't actually
consider this my problem; the package is unusable without the
prerequisites installed.)

Basically, the dependencies of this package should be the same as the
dependencies of the libalberta2 package with added -dev to each
package name. (So in the list I gave, there is at least one mistake
-- the last package should be libblas3gf-dev. Additionally, there
might be alternatives to these packages which could be listed as
alternative dependencies -- I did not investigate this.)

Cheers,
Sven

Package: scim-python
Version: 0.1.13~rc1-1

Hi,

the scim-python rules file contains the following:

install: build $(PYVERS:%=install-%)
ln -sf
/usr/lib/python-support/python-scim/python2.5/scim-0.1/scim/_scim.so \
debian/tmp/usr/lib/scim-1.0/1.4.0/Helper/python.so
ln -sf
/usr/lib/python-support/python-scim/python2.5/scim-0.1/scim/_scim.so \
debian/tmp/usr/lib/scim-1.0/1.4.0/IMEngine/python.so
ln -sf
/usr/lib/python-support/python-scim/python2.5/scim-0.1/scim/_scim.so \
debian/tmp/usr/lib/scim-1.0/1.4.0/SetupUI/python.so

With the upcoming version of python-support (currently in experimental),
the files installed in /usr/lib/python-support are ignored and the built
package is, as such, broken. (Note that the packages already built will
not break upon upgrade, only those built against the newer
python-support version will fail.)

Linking directly public modules to a private modules directory also
looks very wrong; if the package is built for several versions, the
private modules will only be available for one Python version, and they
will become out of sync if the default Python version changes.

Therefore, here are the possible approaches I’d recommend to fix this
issue:
  * Fix the software so that it doesn’t need to mix private and
public modules.
  * Use only the public modules and replace the symlinks by wrapper
modules (in pure Python) that just import the contents of the
public module *for the current Python version*.
  * If this is really not possible, you can write a rtupdate script
that sets up and updates the symbolic links according to the
default Python version, but it is more complicated.

As a general rule, please avoid relying on the internals of
python-support in the packaging unless necessary; this will avoid such
issues in the future (although hopefully there won’t be a need to change
the paths any further).

Thanks,

2009-05-05 Thread LI Daobing
package scim-python
tag 498270 wontfix
thanks

mark this bug as wontfix, summary of reason

1. build pinyin module need download a file, and the downloaded file
has no clear license.
2. we already have a pinyin input method in scim-pinyin
3. scim-python is still useful even without the pinyin module, such as
tegaki (which is in debian new queue)

Thanks,

If so, please file (or find) a bug report against the offending

For now, you can just manually add the following line to the
 python-ropemacs section of /var/lib/dpkg/status:

 Python-Version: =2.5

After that, the package will upgrade. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you for the workaround.

Until it's no longer needed (i.e. until the package can be upgraded
without manual intervention), this grave bug remains affecting
‘python-ropemacs’ and so this report should remain open.

Bug#527091: libvoikko1: Does not work with voikko-fi version 1.3-1

2009-05-05 Thread Harri Pitkänen
Package: libvoikko1
Version: 2.1-2
Severity: grave

The location for morphological data files has changed in version 2.1 of
libvoikko. voikko-fi version 1.3-1 still places the data files in the
old location. Therefore upgrading libvoikko from 2.0-2 to 2.1-2 makes
the library fail with the following error:
 $ voikkospell
E: Initialization of Voikko failed: No valid dictionaries were found

This makes the library unusable, unless the user has manually installed
suitable morphological data files under $HOME/.voikko/1/mor-standard
(quite unlikely for ordinary users).

To avoid breakage, this version libvoikko1 should not be coinstallable
with current or previous version of voikko-fi. I believe that Breaks or
Conflicts should be added against old versions of voikko-fi and a new
version of voikko-fi should be uploaded that places the files in
correct location and declares similar conflicts against older versions
of libvoikko1.

Bug#521918: pbuilder --build --binary-arch invokes 'build' target

2009-05-05 Thread Petr Pudlak
Hi, I was trying to attend a reported bug (#521918) of a recently uploaded
package 'eprover', but unfortunately I didn't know what to do about it. I've
already asked on debian-mentors, but nobody replied.

The problem is that if pbuilder is invoked with --binary-arch, it still tries
to build the whole project, including the documentation (indep). But the tools
required to build the documentation are missing, since they are specified in
Build-Depends-Indep:, not in Build-Depends:. It looks to me as if the problem
is with pbuilder (or with the tools it's invoking), but of course the problem
might as well be my ignorance.

The only solution I thought of so far was to put the tools for building the
documentation into Build-Depends:, but this seems to me (at least) as improper.

Could anyone help me, either by advising how to properly solve the problem, or
by pointing out what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,
Petr

so that it should build only the binary target, it seems to me that it
still invokes the 'debian/rules build' target, instead of 'build-arch'
(or 'binary-arch'?), which I'd expect. This way, the building process
fails, since it tries to build the documentation, but it's missing
 Build-Depends-Indep packages (LaTeX, tex4ht, etc.).

Am I doing something wrong? Could someone more experienced recommend me
 how to solve this problem?

arch-specific builds run 'debian/rules build $rootcmd debian/rules
binary-arch' (where rootcmd is fakeroot or sudo). They can't do
anything else, because the build-arch target is (still) not required.
Whatever's needed for this needs to be in Build-Depends. Basically the
only place you're allowed to use the Build-Depends-Indep stuff is the
binary-indep target. There's a long-standing bug on debian-policy about
this, IIRC.

Cheers,
Julien

That kind of error is usually caused by the autoconf macros for libtool being
out of sync with ltmain.sh.

Bug#521918: pbuilder --build --binary-arch invokes 'build' target

2009-05-05 Thread Kapil Hari Paranjape
Hello,

On Tue, 05 May 2009, Petr Pudlak wrote:
The problem is that if pbuilder is invoked with --binary-arch, it still tries
to build the whole project, including the documentation (indep). It looks to
 me as if the problem
is with pbuilder (or with the tools it's invoking), but of course the problem
might as well be my ignorance.

If you invoke pbuilder --binary-arch then it in turn invokes
debian/rules binary-arch. So it looks as if your binary-arch target
is running the complete build target.

In the case of the tex4ht package I have chosen to create two
targets build-arch and build-indep which are invoked by the
appropriate binary-* targets. You can browse the SVN repo of the
debian directory of the tex4ht package on svn.debian.org
 http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/collab-maint/deb-maint/tex4ht/trunk/debian/rules
to see this.

Regards,

Kapil.

Hi! This old bug is back again:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=393373

I guess you'll have to remove these files:

  gtk-gnutella-0.96.6/doc/gnutella/draft-nielsen-dime-02.txt
  gtk-gnutella-0.96.6/doc/other/rfc3548.txt

In the old report, it said that upstream had fixed this, so that the
rfc's wouldn't be shipped in future *.tar.gz's. Maybe that didn't work?

Thanks,
/Simon

Hi,

Your package has a build-dependency on libc6-dev (= 2). This
makes no sense at all:
- Not all arches have a package called libc6-dev
- libc6-dev is build essential, you should not need to build
depend on it unless you require a specific version. And
the version you're build-depending on is 2. Version
2.1-1 was uploaded to unstable in Feb 1999.

# saslpasswd2 -c test
: Successful return: 0
DB-fd: method not permitted before handle's open method
Segmentation fault

from postfix log when trying to do sasl authorisation:

Package: python-django-debug-toolbar
Version: 0+git200901231854-2
Severity: serious
Tags: patch
Justification: no longer builds from source

Hey,
This FTBFS was supposed to be fixed in bug 516758 but for some reason change
done in 0+git200901231854-2 version isn't the one that is described in
changelog. Instead of adding python-setuptools to Build-Depends: python-support
was moved from Build-Depends-Indep: to Build-Depends: and it doesn't fix this
issue. Also I don't see the reason why python-support was moved to
Build-Depends: as it isn't needed for clean target (I may be wrong on this one,
if so I'm sorry).
Attached patch moves back python-support to Build-Depends-Indep: and adds
python-setuptools to Build-Depends:

Bug#527004: remctl: FTBFS: LTOPTIONS_VERSION is m4_require'd but not m4_defun'd

2009-05-05 Thread Russ Allbery
This appears to be php5-dev breakage as near as I can tell. It looks
like phpize is only copying over libtool.m4 and not all of the other
supporting libtool M4 files as required for the libtool 2.x.

I've reassigned the bug to php5-dev.

Bug#517768: Ping - Any news?

2009-05-05 Thread Ivan Baldo

   Hello.
   Any news about this?
This is a blocker for the new Nautilus, while the new Nautilus
doesn't enter Testing, Testing will remain without automounting services.
There is some problem with the local mime database of the user (look
at the other reports merged with this one), who is responsible for
keeping that file up-to-date?

   Thanks!!!

Bug#527177: flute-openoffice.org: missing build-depends

2009-05-05 Thread Chris Cheney
Package: flute-openoffice.org
Version: 1.3.0-OOo31-1
Severity: serious

It looks like build depends are missing from this package... I think it
is missing ant and java-gcj-compat-dev but I am not certain if those are
the two proper depends it needs or not, adding those two did however
allow it to build.

This error is seen on all 64 bit arches.

Boost 1.34's /usr/include/boost/serialization/collection_traits.hpp
is missing a #include climits

Can be worked round by #including it from LayerMap.hpp instead;
and it's fixed in Boost 1.38 (maybe earlier too).

Make phpize copy and use the separate m4 files needed by libtool 2.2

phpize only knew about libtool.m4, but libtool 2.2 ships separate m4
files which are also required for the build process. This lead to
FTBFS errors on extensions due to undefined macros.

Closes: #527004
