FWIW,

The reverse case is no longer the case with hplip 3.9.10.

hplip now no longer depends on hpijs and ships with it's own hpcups.

Bug#558459: cups: printing fails with "cupsRasterOpen failed" msg

2009-11-28 Thread Sanjoy Mahajan
Package: cups
Version: 1.4.2-2
Severity: grave

Since an 'aptitude dist-upgrade' a couple hours ago, printing hasn't
worked. For example, 'lp file.pdf' always failed with a message like
the following in the error_log

[Job 1026] prnt/hpcups/HPCupsFilter.cpp 485: cupsRasterOpen failed, fd = 0

The printer is a HP PSC 2710. I suspected the poppler upgrade caused
or exposed the problem, so I downgraded the poppler-utils,
libpoppler5, and libpoppler-dev packages from version 0.12.2-1 back to
version 0.12.0-2.1. Printing works again!

Hi,

I run the testcase again, this time with nsis 2.45-1. It still
fails, but only with Windows 98. The other versions of Windows
(including Wine) don't seem to be affected.

[...]

"=r" means that the code *will* write to register %0, which is then
written to has_cpuid. But if this code does not detect cpuid, the
register is uninitialised and probably has a non-zero value.

You must either change the detection code to set %0 to 0 if the
condition is not met, or change "=r" to "+r" so that %0 will be
initialised to the previous value of has_cpuid (i.e. 0).

Ben.

Bug#553948: About the lockfile vulnerabiltiy

2009-11-28 Thread Johann Felix Soden
Hi!

At the moment, the lock file usage in winkeydaemon is useless since
there is never a test if the lock file does exist.

In my opinion, the vulnerability should be solved by using routines from
LockFile::Simple (package liblockfile-simple-perl) and creating the
files directly in /tmp/.

Package: libgoffice-0-4-dbg
Version: 0.4.2-4
Severity: serious
Justification: The listed file appears to be linked against the C library,
User: lintian-ma...@debian.org
Usertags: missing-dependency-on-libc

All shared libraries and compiled binaries must be run through dpkg-shlibdeps to
find out any libraries they are linked against (often via the dh_shlibdeps
debhelper command). The package containing these files must then depend on
${shlibs:Depends} in debian/control to get the proper package dependencies for
those libraries.

Refer to Debian Policy Manual section 8.6 (Dependencies between the library and
other packages - the shlibs system) for details.

,[ 8.6 Dependencies between the library and other packages - the shlibs
system ]
| If a package contains a binary or library which links to a shared library, we
| must ensure that when the package is installed on the system, all of the
| libraries needed are also installed. This requirement led to the creation of
the
| shlibs system, which is very simple in its design: any package which provides
a
| shared library also provides information on the package dependencies required
to
| ensure the presence of this library, and any package which uses a shared
library
| uses this information to determine the dependencies it requires. The files
which
| contain the mapping from shared libraries to the necessary dependency
| information are called shlibs files.
|
| Thus, when a package is built which contains any shared libraries, it must
| provide a shlibs file for other packages to use, and when a package is built
| which contains any shared libraries or compiled binaries, it must run
| dpkg-shlibdeps on these to determine the libraries used and hence the
| dependencies needed by this package.
`

,[ 8.6.2 How to use dpkg-shlibdeps and the shlibs files ]
| Put a call to dpkg-shlibdeps into your debian/rules file. If your package
| contains only compiled binaries and libraries (but no scripts), you can use a
| command such as:
|
| dpkg-shlibdeps debian/tmp/usr/bin/* debian/tmp/usr/sbin/* \
|debian/tmp/usr/lib/*
|
| Otherwise, you will need to explicitly list the compiled binaries and
| libraries.[53]
|
| This command puts the dependency information into the debian/substvars file,
| which is then used by dpkg-gencontrol. You will need to place a
| ${shlibs:Depends} variable in the Depends field in the control file for this
to
| work.

The changelog is not correct because the patch is not applied in version
1.5.2-2 of plait. So this vulnerability still exists.

The bug tag in the changelog has not colon (lintian complains as well),
so the closed RC bug does not show up in the .changes.

Let me know when you have an updated package to sponsor.

Bug#557992: grub-pc: Booting is completely broken

2009-11-28 Thread Paul Seelig
Well, if upgrading to 25-1 does not by itself result in a working boot
configuration, it defintely shouldn't be the user who should be held
responsible to make sure that it works. As an end user, i do expect
that the upgrade does work without any further intervention. If 25-1
does not work although you think it should, then it is simply broken.

For what it's worth, i didn't run any manual grub-install while before
upgrading to 25-1. In case it is required for grub2 to work after the
upgrade, it should be done automagically via the postinst without any
need for user intervention.

Thanks a lot for you work and effort!

2009-11-28 Thread Michael Banck
severity 534033 normal
thanks

Hi,

I just tried a rebuild, and those errors seem to have been downgraded to
warnings with latest cmake:
present:

CMake Warning (dev) at src/CMakeLists.txt:2 (ADD_SUBDIRECTORY):
Policy CMP0013 is not set: Duplicate binary directories are not
allowed.
Run "cmake --help-policy CMP0013" for policy details. Use the
cmake_policy
command to set the policy and suppress this warning.

the build does not abort and goes fine.

If I apply the patch, the above warnings go away.

The module section shouldn't try to load this.

Are you trying to use those 3 cards at the same time, or just two?
Did this setup work previously with the nv driver? I'd have thought it
would be unable to POST secondary cards, and you'd have to use the
binary nvidia driver for that kind of setup.

Cheers,
Julien

Package: libsmi2-common
Version: 0.4.7+dfsg-0.1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.1

Hi!

libsmi2-common contains a lot of MIB licensed under a restrictive
license. I did not look at all of them but most of those under ietf
directory are licensed in the same manner as the corresponding RFC.
Those RFC are non-free:
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810
 http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

I will ask an etch-ignore tag for this bug for lenny since it is too
late for any correction.

Possible correction could be (a mix of):
 - wipe comments and description of all MIB
 - rewrite them and ship only essentials one
 - move the non essential MIB to non-free
Non solution includes:
 - don't ship them at all (the package will be unusable)
 - ship the whole package in non-free (a lot of packages will go into
contrib and no support would be provided)

Another similar bug report will be filed against libsnmp-base that has
the same problem.

   * Repack the upstream tarball to drop all MIB: those are licensed like
IETF RFC and therefore will be provided by a non-free/contrib
package. For the moment, we suggest libsnmp-base for this purpose.
 Closes: #498476.
   * libsmi2-common is now an empty transitional package (which suggests
 libsnmp-base).
   * Ship to experimental until we know the definitive name of the package
 that will download MIB.
   * Add a NEWS.Debian file to explain the change. We will change it later.
   * Bump Standards-Version to 3.8.3.
   * Add a patch from Jochen Friedrich to enhance smistrip. Closes: #558128.

24-1 was broken. 24-2 is actually the sid version before 24-1: 1115-1
25-1 should work fine if you're /etc/grub.d/ files got correctly
updated.
Please check the generated grub.cfg and make sure grub-install gets run
in the postinst or do it yourself.

Bug#557992: grub-pc: Booting is completely broken

2009-11-28 Thread Paul Seelig
Just for the record, my old ThinkPad T23 become unbootable with the very
same symptons after upgrading it to this 1.97+20091125-1 version.
Luckily i still had 1.97+20091124-2 in the apt cache, and manually
downgrading to it "solved" the issue for the time being.

To me it looks like something went very wrong with the source code
somewhere between 1.97+20091124-2 and 1.97+20091125-1 which would be
worthwhile to investigate.

Bug#558433: nwatch fails to start with a "Can't locate PortScan/ScannedHost.pm" error

2009-11-28 Thread Fabrice Coutadeur
Package: nwatch
Version: 0.03-5
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

When starting nwatch in the developement version of Ubuntu, I'm getting the
following error:
Can't locate PortScan/ScannedHost.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /etc/perl
/usr/local/lib/perl/5.10.0 /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.0 /usr/lib/perl5
/usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.10 /usr/share/perl/5.10
/usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at /usr/share/perl5/NWatch/RBPH.pm line 26.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/share/perl5/NWatch/RBPH.pm line 26.
Compilation failed in require at /usr/bin/nwatch line 41.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/bin/nwatch line 41.

I've been looking at it, and it seems that i's because ndiff is not there
anymore, as in Squeeze. So the package cannot be used without ndiff.

So I think that either nwatch has to be adapted, either ndiff put back as a
real package in the archive.

Thanks,
Fabrice

Bug#558423: Acknowledgement (calendarserver: Unable to PUT to non-file)

2009-11-28 Thread Benoit Panizzon
Hello

You can close the bug... (well or consider it as a documentation bug...)

 /usr/share/doc/calendarserver/README.Debian
 http://localhost:8008/calendars/users//calendar/ should state, that you
should get the "Calendar homes:" URL
and add something like my-calendar.ics at the end.

After playing a bit more around with Apple iCAL I found out that a user could
have multiple calendars on the server. So you have to specify a file and not
just the directory. This was why I kept getting the error that the server did
try to access a directory as a file.

Bug#558423: calendarserver: Unable to PUT to non-file

2009-11-28 Thread Benoit Panizzon
Package: calendarserver
Version: 1.2.dfsg-8
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi there

I did try to install the calendar server on two machines under 'etch' and
'lenny'.

On the later one I did a minimum change of the config, just removed the binding
to 'localhost' to be able to access my server from outside.

Still I can reproduce the Problem:

2009-11-28 20:01:47+0100 [-] [caldav-8008] [HTTPChannel,2,IP] GET
/calendars/users/admin/calendar/ HTTP/1.1
2009-11-28 20:02:00+0100 [-] [caldav-8008] [HTTPChannel,4,IP] PUT
/calendars/users/admin/calendar/ HTTP/1.1
2009-11-28 20:02:00+0100 [-] [caldav-8008] [HTTPChannel,4,IP] 'Unable to PUT
to non-file:
/var/spool/caldavd/calendars/__uids__/38eae584-2b75-582b-a058-018391d1003f/calendar'

After some time googleing and trying to find helpfull documentation on
how to set access rights etc, it looks like some parts of twisted.web try to
access
a directory as a file...

Any idea how to resolve that problem?

Bug#533806: gcc 4.1 only on arm

2009-11-28 Thread Christoph Egger
Hi!

Reading debian/control g++-4.1 is only referenced on arm which is
not a release architecture for squeeze (superseeded by armel). SHould
this bug be fixed then? I can't build the package as it currently has
some version conflicts in tcl I'll have a look later.

X clients should not be able to crash the X server, so this is a bug in
the X server not zgv. Please report which X server packages you are
using (run "dpkg -l 'xserver*' | grep ^ii").

I guess he was tired of closing the same bug report, and I don't blame him. If
you have found the Fedora bug report, how come you didn't notice this had
already been reported in Debian several times?

Bug#520941: nagios3-common: post-installation script returned error

2009-11-28 Thread Stefan Fritsch

could you please check if this bug still appears in this version?
http://stuff.der-marv.de/tmp/mini-httpd_1.19-10_amd64.deb

When upgrading from a version before 1.19-10, you need to undo the
diversion before adding the new diversion, otherwise dpkg-divert will give
an error.

But I think simply renaming the files in the package without a new
diversion (and removing the old diversion on upgrade) is the better and
simpler solution.

Swami homepage is http://swami.resonance.org/trac . Swami 0.9.x
(which is in Debian) is listed at [1] as being "old and abandoned".
The upstream development version uses GTK 2.6, and is listed as not
not quite ready for public consumption

[1] http://swami.resonance.org/trac/wiki/Download

If you look at the svn repository, not much is happening, but if you
click on "Timeline" on their wiki (and go back 90 days from current),
there are entries for October [2] and November 2009, so they are not
completely dead.

[2] http://swami.resonance.org/trac/ticket/47 -- this lists a bug
against Ubuntu 9.x by the upstream developer

Link [3] lists instructions for building under Ubuntu 7.x, which was
updated November 17, 2009.

[3] http://swami.resonance.org/trac/wiki/SwamiInstall?version=6

In Bug #506484, someone has already requested that Debian package a
newer version.

You're right; I'll see about Guile 1.6 shortly, but note that most of
the effort has been focused on Guile 1.8, and if it weren't for an
unfortunate upstream ABI change with respect to threads (and a later 2.0
release than expected), 1.6 would have been removed from the archive
long ago.

Thanks

Bug#534470: Using mdadm 2.6.7.2 to assemble a raid array created with mdadm 1.9.0 will corrupt it making mdadm 1.9.0 to crash when trying to reassemble

I suspect that the problem here is that the user is expecting a recovery
tool released nearly 5 years after the OS he has installed to work
without issues.

I'd suggest that if etch supports the new superblock checksum format,
this bug can be closed, as we no longer actually support sarge (in a
distribution sense - Martin, if you want to make it easier for sarge
users, that's of course entirely fine). I've downgraded the severity
for now, as a bug that only affects sarge users does not affect the
releasability of this software in squeeze.

Cheers,
