Bug#569261: FTBFS: failed to change mode of debian/anyremote-data/…

2010-02-11 Thread Philipp Huebner
Hi,

thanks KiBi, I had already noticed that but was (and am) lacking the
time to fix it.

I was wondering why it builds fine for me in pbuilder but fails on the
buildds.
Once I thought about what difference between me and the buildds is,
realization hit me ;)

I won't have time to fix this before sunday, so if someone would like to
do an NMU, go for it.

Best wishes,

Thanks. It's actually not all, but arches without runhaskell (which,

Bug#568385: gracie: daemonizes too late, ends up with socket closed

2010-02-11 Thread Gustavo Noronha Silva
On Wed, 2010-02-10 at 23:27 +1100, Ben Finney wrote:
Thank you for taking the trouble to track down this problem to this
level of detail, and for reporting it here.

No problem at all, I had to restore my openid service anyway =)

Can you please provide a command-line that I can run to reproduce
similar output for a run of Gracie?

This was what I used to investigate:

strace -f -s 1024 /usr/bin/python /usr/bin/gracied --pidfile
/var/run/gracied.pid --data-dir /var/lib/gracie --host 127.0.0.1 --port 8123
--root-url http://openid.kov.eti.br/ 2| tee /tmp/log

I fixed it locally by changing the code, and temporarily moving the
daemonization to before opening the port (that is fine in my case given
the high port number), but a real fix would be to make the daemonization
process less trigger happy (making it not close the listening socket).

See you,

Bug#569228: [Pkg-mythtv-maintainers] Bug#569228: libtwolame0: possible legal problem

2010-02-11 Thread Willi Neudeck
First of all, I'd like to thank you for the fast answer on the bug report.

Mark Purcell wrote:
 [...]
This has already been discussed in Bug#419597. [...]

Having just reread that bug, I still believe it does not refer at all to
the problem reported by me.

Bug #419597 was about the usage of patented technics in mp3 (seemingly
accidently filed against an mp2 implementation). Later on, the
discussion switched to mp2 patents in general.

However, this bug (#569228) is about the usage of a routine in *this
specific implementation* of mp2, which might be covered by patents
and/or use LGPL-incompatible code.

Of course, the patents might already have been expired (this does not
seem to be improbable). But by carefully reading the full comment in the
source code, it is still possible to arrive at the conclusion, that some
parts of the code aren't free of copyright restrictions, which might
make it unfit for release under the LGPL.

Kind Regards

Willi Neudeck

PS: I have just read in the wikipedia article about the Discrete Hartley
transform [1], that the patent on FHT has been put in the public domain
by Stanford University in 1994. Therefore, at least one of the problems
seems to have disappeared.

Hello Julien,

There is a new version of libjpeg (libjpeg8) that replace libjpeg62.
libjpeg62-dev is only kept for LSB compatibility and should not be
used for building packages.

libsane-dev depends on libjpeg62-dev. Please change it to depends on libjpeg-dev
instead. Please also change the Build-Dependency to be on libjpeg-dev and
not libjpeg62-dev.

This dependency on libjpeg62-dev prevent packages Build-Depending on both

Dear maintainer,

I've prepared an NMU for postgresql-plproxy (versioned as 2.0.8-1.1) and
uploaded it to DELAYED/2. Please feel free to tell me if I
should delay it longer.

It will have to go thru NEW, so it might be longer than 2 days.

Regards.

Bug#566271: Stable has no publican package..

Can you please fetch 0.38 from testing/untable and try again?

 $ apt-get install -t testing publican

will not take libfile-copy-recursive-perl from testing. I think you
 need to Depends: libfile-copy-recursive-perl (1:5.1p1-5)

You mean: (= 0.38). Right? :)

And yes, I don't think mixing releases will make life easy for
packages and supported :P

Since testing/unstable has 0.38, I think this bug can be closed..

Bug#566189: Bug #566189 on testing (i386)

2010-02-11 Thread Emmanuel Charpentier
I have an (experimental) squeeze installation, which has been crippled
by something suspiciously looking like this bug for a couple of weeks.

The announced fix (packages update to 1.3.1.1-15) does not (yet ?) seem
to be available on testing repositories, nor on the squeeze backports
repositories.

Can someone suggest a workaround for squeeze users ? (No, I'd rather
*not* go for unstable. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt...).

Sincerely,

Emmanuel Charpentier

This will make it horribly hard for a backporter. You need to
explicitely state when a dependencie need at least a particular
version.
This is an implicit dependencie, I really do not understand why you
refuse the change I propose ? what is so wrong with my proposal ?

Package: libcupsimage2-dev
Version: 1.4.2-7.1
Severity: serious

Hello Debian CUPS Maintainers,

There is a new version of libjpeg (libjpeg8) that replace libjpeg62.
libjpeg62-dev is only kept for LSB compatibility and should not be
used for building packages.

libcupsimage2-dev depends on libjpeg62-dev. Please change it to depends on
libjpeg-dev instead. Please also change the Build-Dependency to be on
libjpeg-dev and not libjpeg62-dev.

This dependency on libjpeg62-dev prevent packages Build-Depending on both
libcupsimage2-dev and libjpeg-dev to install their dependencies, due to the
conflict between libjpeg62-dev and libjpeg-dev.

Cheers,

Bug#566189: Bug #566189 on testing (i386)

2010-02-11 Thread Rene Engelhard
Hi,

On Thu, Feb 11, 2010 at 02:16:41PM +0100, Emmanuel Charpentier wrote:
I have an (experimental) squeeze installation, which has been crippled
by something suspiciously looking like this bug for a couple of weeks.

The announced fix (packages update to 1.3.1.1-15) does not (yet ?) seem
to be available on testing repositories, nor on the squeeze backports
 repositories.

There is no squeeze backports. If you mean lenny-backports, it will be
in some days.

Can someone suggest a workaround for squeeze users ? (No, I'd rather
*not* go for unstable. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt...).

Yes. Read -15s debconf message (which is a big part of the fix):

_Description: Component registries might be corrupted
You are upgrading from a version which might have corrupted
 service/component registry files (*.rdb), especially
 /var/lib/openoffice/basis3.1/program/services.rdb and the rdb files
 in /var/spool/openoffice/uno_packages/cache for installed extensions.
 .
If you experience problems with the component manager or segmentation faults
involving libstore in either unopkg or OpenOffice.org, please check these
files. Try cleanly reinstalling the packages and/or using a clean user
 profile.

Not that it wasn't mentioned in other bugs already...

(But note -14 still will write bogus files in some cases...)

Bug#493599: switching to ldns

2010-02-11 Thread Jérémy Lal
Hi,
i'm the maintainer of the nodejs package (in unstable),
and since you're considering dropping udns package,
i'm wondering if it is easy to switch an application that uses udns
to using ldns instead.
Any experience about that ?

Regards,

 Hello Debian SDL packages maintainers,

There is a new version of libjpeg (libjpeg8) that replace libjpeg62.
libjpeg62-dev is only kept for LSB compatibility and should not be
 used for building packages.

libsdl-image1.2-dev depends on libjpeg62-dev. Please change it to depends on
libjpeg-dev instead. Please also change the Build-Dependency to be on
 libjpeg-dev and not libjpeg62-dev.

This dependency on libjpeg62-dev prevent packages Build-Depending on both
libsdl-image1.2-dev and libjpeg-dev to install their dependencies, due to the
 conflict between libjpeg62-dev and libjpeg-dev.

Fixed in the SVN, but the package is not buildable, due to
libdirectfb-dev depending on libjpeg62-dev.

Bug#569059: software-center: won't install properly

2010-02-11 Thread Evgeni Golov
Hi,

here again, I can't reproduce your problem.
Neither with 1.1debian1 from squeeze, nor with 1.1.10debian1 from sid.

I *do* get the following error as in your log:
ERROR:root:error processing:
/usr/share/app-install/desktop/kbarcode-label.desktop No option 'Name'
in section: 'Desktop Entry'
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File /usr/share/software-center/softwarecenter/db/update.py, line

  File /usr/share/software-center/softwarecenter/db/update.py, line

File /usr/lib/python2.5/ConfigParser.py, line 302, in get
raise NoOptionError(option, section)
NoOptionError: No option 'Name' in section: 'Desktop Entry'

But none of the other ones, and, software-center works just fine...

Regards
Evgeni

  Hello Debian SDL packages maintainers,

There is a new version of libjpeg (libjpeg8) that replace libjpeg62.
libjpeg62-dev is only kept for LSB compatibility and should not be
  used for building packages.

libsdl-image1.2-dev depends on libjpeg62-dev. Please change it to depends on
libjpeg-dev instead. Please also change the Build-Dependency to be on
  libjpeg-dev and not libjpeg62-dev.

This dependency on libjpeg62-dev prevent packages Build-Depending on both
libsdl-image1.2-dev and libjpeg-dev to install their dependencies, due to
  the
  conflict between libjpeg62-dev and libjpeg-dev.

Fixed in the SVN, but the package is not buildable, due to
 libdirectfb-dev depending on libjpeg62-dev.

Hello Aurélien, sorry for the trouble.
Please note that I have already reported a bug against libdirectfb-dev.

Cheers,
Bill.

This one is a known minor issue in software-center (#568941) which has
no effect on the package and is already fixed by just printing a warning
instead of an error + traceback. The error is caused by a wrong file in
app-install-data which has been fixed 2010.01.31.

Since I get the same failures on my local machine I'm quite sure the

Network using localhost is available and is not firewalled on my build

Today a call for translation updates was made (only to some lists,

a license, where more information supposedly is found on

This page, however, is 404.

While I wonder why those information cannot be stored locally
(probably because it can only be reviewed *after* the package has been
installed) it has to be ensured that the user *can* review the
license before installation.

A possible solution would be to place the license on a server under
your (or Debians) control thus availablility can be ensured during the
entire lifetime of this package.

If that solution would not be possible/acceptable then probably a
larger rewording in the templates would be necessary (instead of a
simple replacement of an URL), so translation efforts probably should
be postponed?

Bug#569352: sun-java6: Broken URL in debconf to complete license

2010-02-11 Thread Sylvestre Ledru

Today a call for translation updates was made (only to some lists,
e.g. German and Swedish, but not e.g. for French or to -i18n for new
translations). Looking at the strings the user is requested to accept
a license, where more information supposedly is found on
 http://java.sun.com/notes

 This page, however, is 404.

While I wonder why those information cannot be stored locally
(probably because it can only be reviewed *after* the package has been
installed) it has to be ensured that the user *can* review the
 license before installation.

A possible solution would be to place the license on a server under
your (or Debians) control thus availablility can be ensured during the
 entire lifetime of this package.
OK, I will have a look on this bug in the next few days.

Sylvestre

I tried again, and now the package builds fine for me. So the problem
probably was some build dependency, although I haven't found an
obvious one during a quick check.

Could someone else please have a try?

Cheers,

Bug#568925: esmtp: configuration file world-readable

2010-02-11 Thread Salvatore Bonaccorso
Hi Rolf

I'm sorry for getting back so late to you (I did not receive your
email via the bugtracker)!

Please note the following from esmtprc manpage:

   username
Set the username for authentication with the SMTP server.

Do NOT set the username and password in the system configuration
file unless you are the only user of this machine. Esmtp is not
run with suid privileges therefore the system configuration file
must be readable by everyone. If your SMTP server requires
authentication and you are not the only user then specify your
personal SMTP account details in the user configuration file.

   password
Set the password for authentication with the SMTP server.

This is by design of esmtp needed, that the global configuration file
is word-readable. If you are not the only user of the system, then
username/password configuration should be done on per user-basis in
~/.esmtprc.

What I will do is the following: I will add a more clear statement
about this probably in the README.Debian file and add too a news
entry.

Bests
Salvatore

This is a serious bug as it makes installation fail, and violates
sections 7.6.1 and 10.1 of the policy. An optimal solution would
consist in only one of the packages installing that file, and renaming
or removing the file in the other package. Depending on the
circumstances you might also consider Replace relations or file
diversions. If the conflicting situation cannot be resolved then, as a
last resort, the two packages have to declare a mutual
Conflict. Please take into account that Replaces, Conflicts and
diversions should only be used when packages provide different
implementations for the same functionality.

Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages
(according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be
slightly out of sync):

  /usr/bin/sigtest

This bug is assigned to both packages. If you, the maintainers of
the two packages in question, have agreed on which of the packages will
resolve the problem please reassign the bug to that package.

-Ralf.

Yes, I'm running 1.7.0-3; sorry for not having mentioned that.

Ok, here's a thing you can try.
I know of a weird bug with wicd and some drivers, causing random
disconnections and other weird behaviour when the signal strenght (is|is not)
measured in dBm.

Can you please try switching that option, and see if that bug (disappears|is
still there)? If it disappears, then I'd have an hint where to look.

Also, would you please enable debugging mode, and attach wicd.log here, if
it's any different from the snippet Didier posted before?

Thank you,
David
(having a bad connection, will get a better one in two weeks' time, so don't
worry if I suddenly don't reply anymore)

Bug#569358: MD_MODULES in initrd empty, RAID not started

2010-02-11 Thread Martin Michlmayr
Package: mdadm
Version: 3.1.1-1
Severity: serious

When I use the mdadm 3.1.1-1 udeb to install root on RAID1 the machine
doesn't boot - it waits for root because RAID is never started.

I tracked this down to empty values in /conf/conf.d/md:

| MD_HOMEHOST='NAS8C4EB8'
| MD_DEVPAIRS='/dev/md/0:'
| MD_LEVELS=''
| MD_DEVS=all
| MD_MODULES=''

MD_MODULES is empty, so no modules are loaded and /proc/mdstat doesn't
exist and so the script stops.

The reason why these values are empty is that the initramfs hook looks
for levels=XXX in /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf, but my config file doesn't
contain anything about levels. Maybe the format has changed with
metadata=1.1?

My /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf looks like this:

| DEVICE partitions
| HOMEHOST system
| ARRAY /dev/md/0 metadata=1.1 UUID=f8d6999e:0d277d4a:ed6ff136:2bd5f46a
name=NAS8C4EB8:0
