Bug#562575: Bug present in Sid D-i, but not in Squeeze d-i [Re: Bug#562575: installation-reports: Buisnesscard PowerPC installer loops with Segmentation faults]

2010-02-15 Thread Rick Thomas

At Norberto's suggestion I did a side-by side comparison of the PowerPC
daily buisnesscard installer from the Sid d-i and the Squeeze d-i at

http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/{squeeze,sid}_d-i/arch-latest/powerpc/iso-cd/

This build finished at Mon Feb 15 04:15:05 UTC 2010. (for Sid d-i)
and
This build finished at Mon Feb 15 04:17:52 UTC 2010. (for Squeeze)

The Sid d-i failed with seg-faults. The Squeeze d-i did *not*.

In fact, the squeeze d-i installer completed a normal installation and
booted just fine.

So... What do we do now?

GDM doesn’t directly link to these libraries, as objdump

This bug has to belong in one of the dependencies. I suspect it is
related to the libjpeg fiasco.

Coin,

After an upgrade of the unstable suite a few minutes ago, gdm just

Bug#569931: oxygen-ait theme crashes in libjpeg62

2010-02-15 Thread Wolfgang Walter
Package: kdebase-workspace-kgreet-plugins
Version: 4:4.3.4-4
Severity: grave

Since I upgraded unstable (today, 15.2.2010) kdms greeter crashes when using
the theme /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes/oxygen-air with a segmentation fault
(in libjpeg62 when decompressing).

Theme /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes/oxygen works.

I think this has something todo with the upgrade of kdelibs5 and libplasma3
(or liblzma1 to liblzma2)?

Package: libcairo-perl

Justification: renders package unusable

This package seems to be unusable with the newest version of
libdirectfb.

Building Graphics::Primitive::Driver::Cairo yielded the following
test output (see libgraphics-primitive-driver-cairo-perl in the
Debian Perl Group repository):

t/00-load.t

Inspecting the package in a chroot, a different API version of
libdirectfb is now installed. I'm not sure how to proceed here,
except perhaps conflict with the newer version or rebuild.

A rebuild of the Cairo bindings (libcairo-perl) should fix it,
but moving forward, I'd like to investigate a more robust and
resilient system (that won't result in breakages whenever a
new version of libdirectfb is uploaded).

After installing libcairo-perl (including directfb which is one
of the dependencies), the following files are put in /usr/lib:
  # ls /usr/lib/libdirectfb*
  /usr/lib/libdirectfb-1.2.so.9 /usr/lib/libdirectfb-1.2.so.9.0.1

The same error happens trying to load Cairo:
  # perl -MCairo -e1
Can't load '/usr/lib/perl5/auto/Cairo/Cairo.so' for module Cairo:
libdirectfb-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Just installed from experimental and got this...

Package: libsdl-image1.2-dev
Version: 1.2.10-1
Severity: serious

Hello Debian SDL packages maintainers,

There is a new version of libjpeg (libjpeg8) that replace libjpeg62.
libjpeg62-dev is only kept for LSB compatibility and should not be
used for building packages.

libsdl-image1.2-dev depends on libjpeg62-dev. Please change it to depends on
libjpeg-dev instead. Please also change the Build-Dependency to be on
libjpeg-dev and not libjpeg62-dev.

This dependency on libjpeg62-dev prevent packages Build-Depending on both
libsdl-image1.2-dev and libjpeg-dev to install their dependencies, due to the
conflict between libjpeg62-dev and libjpeg-dev.

Cheers,

Bug#569932: devicekit-disks: completely unusable due to devkit-disks-daemon segfault

2010-02-15 Thread Teodor
Package: devicekit-disks
Version: 009-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

As reported in the first message, it segfaults at startup:
| Feb 15 11:29:01 frost kernel: [ 7524.054613] devkit-disks-da[20771]:
| segfault at c ip 080660da sp bfb563b0 error 4 in
devkit-disks-daemon[8048000+28000]

Only that the re-login is not even a workarround because the second login does
not even
attempt to start devkit-disks-daemon as it is already started. I've checked
this by
killing the process and re-login and still the same segfault.

This problem makes devkit-disks-daemon and all depending pieces from Gnome to
not work
(for example 'brasero'). I'm using k3b which still uses 'hal', but that's only
for
burning CD/DVDs. I cannot open any disc to see its content, nor can I umount
any disc,
not the icon status changes if I replace the current disc in the drive. The
icon remains
with the status of the first disc inserted (which for me is Blank DVD+R disc).

Thanks

Since I upgraded unstable (today, 15.2.2010) kdms greeter crashes when using
the theme /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes/oxygen-air with a segmentation fault
(in libjpeg62 when decompressing).

Theme /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes/oxygen works.

I think this has something todo with the upgrade of kdelibs5 and libplasma3
(or liblzma1 to liblzma2)?

yes, I just noticed this as well. binNMUs are due, and I guess I’ll have
to prepare them... (or just do sourceful uploads, which maybe is even
faster).

Package: kdebase-workspace-kgreet-plugins
Version: 4:4.3.4-4
Severity: grave

Since I upgraded unstable (today, 15.2.2010) kdms greeter crashes when using
the theme /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes/oxygen-air with a segmentation fault
(in libjpeg62 when decompressing).

Theme /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes/oxygen works.

I think this has something todo with the upgrade of kdelibs5 and libplasma3
(or liblzma1 to liblzma2)?

Like most of the other installable libghc6*-dev packages, this package

Bug#569932: devicekit-disks: completely unusable due to devkit-disks-daemon segfault

2010-02-15 Thread Martin Pitt
severity 569932 important
tag 569932 moreinfo
thanks

Hello Teodor,

Teodor [2010-02-15 11:44 +0200]:
 Package: devicekit-disks
 Version: 009-2
 Severity: grave
 Justification: renders package unusable

I downgraded this to important, since it does not affect all users.

This is unfortunately not enough to debug the crash. Can you please do
(as root)

  gdb --args /usr/lib/devicekit-disks/devkit-disks-daemon --replace

then do run, let it crash, and copypaste the output of bt full?

Also, it might be helpful to do

  strace -o /tmp/dkd.trace -vv -f /usr/lib/devicekit-disks/devkit-disks-daemon
--replace

and let it crash, and attach /tmp/dkd.trace here.

Thanks!

Martin

This bug, similarly to #569267, is due to missing dependencies in
build-dependencies, that allowed this build to take place even though it
shouldn't. The build log mentions libexpat-ocaml-dev, which has been
fixed, but (at least) libgdome2-ocaml-dev misses a dependency to
ocaml-nox-$ABI

With the krb5 alpha1-6 packages it is fixed now, thanks!

net ads join, net ads testjoin, wbinfo -u, getent passwd now all show normal
results for network accounts. The addition of allow_weak_crypto=true in
/etc/krb5.conf ist not needed to join a Windows 2003 domain to use RC4 for
ticket encryption.

Bug#569808: Empathy does not respect settings of remote desktop prefernces in gnome

2010-02-15 Thread Philipp Kern

I think it's not a security problem, let me explain. If a user removes

preferences and it's not really convenient. At the moment share my
desktop doesn't care about gnome preferences, because if a user take
the decision to share his desktop just for the session, it's his
decision and gnome-preferences doesn't have to interfere. This
solution is more convenient because if a user wants to share his
desktop he doesn't need to change gnome-preferences, the feature does
it for him and doesn't affect gnome-preferences in the future.

So possibly empathy should offer an option to only share the desktop
read-only instead of read-write?

I don't think it warrants grave though, especially if the sharing is
not done automatically on call but rather on request. If the latter's
the case, feel free to reupgrade the bug.

Kind regards,
Philipp Kern

Hey,

it seems that thuban doesn't work at all:

cor...@fitz: thuban
importing gdalwarp
importing osgeo.gdal

***
The following version errors were detected:
Thuban was compiled with wx 2.8.7 but wxPython is 2.8.10.1

I guess a binnmu would be enough, but I fail to see why it's an error to
run with a different version than the one it's compiled against (though I
don't know much wxpython)

Cheers,

Bug#560286: Debian Bug report logs - #560286 gattrib seg faults are back

2010-02-15 Thread Peter Clifton
Hi Bdale,

I was wondering if you could confirm whether this bug can now be closed.
Neither Ahmed or I can reproduce it, and I think I have a plausible
explanation for why the problem was occurring previously.

Best regards,

Peter C.

Package: pida
Version: 0.5.1-5.1+b1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Pida installs but won't start. I've been trying on a few different
systems, with different settings, and python packages. The package was
not updated for almost 5 months, and it seems many things around it have
changed.

Here's an output of error when I launced pida

Bug#569975: python-moinmoin: Serious security issue in all moinmoin versions

2010-02-15 Thread John Goerzen
Package: python-moinmoin
Version: 1.5.3-1.2etch2
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

Per http://moinmo.in/SecurityFixes, there is a major security issue in
moin. It affects all moin versions from 1.5.0 up to and including
1.9.1.

This means that all of these versions are vulnerable:

etch (oldstable): 1.5.3-1.2etch2

lenny (stable): 1.7.1-3+lenny2

squeeze (testing) sid (unstable): 1.9.1-1

The Moin team has released 1.8.7, which patches the issue in 1.8.6.
They have not yet issued a patch for any other branch, including the
1.9.1 branch, although it appears that they are working on it. That
patch may be instructive on patching these other versions.

The security team can coordinate this with Thomas Waldmann, who has
contact information at http://moinmo.in/ThomasWaldmann and is on
FreeNode as ThomasWaldmann.

Here is an IRC conversation transcript:

CosmicRay Hi folks. Question about the security problems: 1) am I
right that there is no fix for 1.9.1 right now? 2) What's the deal with
SecurityFixes/Installation referencing patches on SecurityFixes? I'm
not seeing any recent patches on SecurityFixes. Has your policy for
that stuff changed?
ThomasWaldmann 1) yes, but soon
ThomasWaldmann (except if you want to pull from repository, stuff is
fixed there, but we are still testing, translators might need a bit to
finish translation)
ThomasWaldmann 2) it's not just a single patch, it is quite much, you
don't want to apply them manually. if you need it now, do a repo
checkout and you'll have 1.9.2pre kind of
ThomasWaldmann and I am intentionally being rather vague on that page
and not (yet?) linking to changesets, because disclosing too much info
is dangerous for unpatched sites
ThomasWaldmann 1.9.2 planned in about 1 or 2 weeks

Your package fails to build with the upcoming GCC 4.4. Version 4.4
has not been released yet but I'm building with a snapshot in order
to find errors and give people an advance warning.

GCC 4.4 cleaned up some more C++ headers. You always have to #include
headers directly and cannot rely for things to be included indirectly.

You can reproduce this problem with gcc-snapshot from unstable.

Bug#567402: dbconfig-common: bashism l113 of config

severity #567402 grave
thanks

Hello,

I already talked to you on IRC. The severity is grave, configuring the
database with /bin/bash as /bin/sh also ends up with the same error for
otrs2: Could not determine database type

With /bin/bash I get (with dbc debug enabled):

After this operation, 36.8MB of additional disk space will be used.
Preconfiguring packages ...

dbc_config() otrs2 configure.

Selecting previously deselected package otrs2.
(Reading database ... 37056 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking otrs2 (from .../archives/otrs2_2.4.7-1_all.deb) ...

As a workaround I installed on squeeze the dbconfig-common version of
Lenny and with it, it works (only tested with /bin/bash as /bin/sh).

Is it you who is going to track down every bug report after the
transition is over? because before asking for the binNMUs to be
schedule I won't go and review every single package's BTS to see if
there's a bug to be closed. And is it you who is going to make sure
maintainers don't make useless sourcefull uploads saying Rebuilding
against 5.3 (Closes: #nnn) just to close the RC bug and put more load
on the buildds (because another set of binNMUs would still be
necessary for the archs with long queues)?

If you want to help doing both things then yes, please let's leave the bug open.

Packages are known to be broken. There's people (me) actively working
on the transition.

Bug#569984: WARNING: gcov did not create any files BUT: strange files produced

2010-02-15 Thread Alexander Mader
Package: lcov
Version: 1.7-1
Severity: serious

Hello,

in a project with directory structure the run of LCOV doesn't produce the
desired *.info file any more. It states for instance:

  Processing ./lib/stage2/i3.gcda
geninfo: WARNING: gcov did not create any files for
LcovTst/lib/stage2/i3.gcda!

The source i3.c is located in LcovTst/lib/ and the LCOV run produces a file

  LcovTst/lib/stage2/..#i3.c.gcov

In the *.info file there are just

  TN:

lines.

I will send a very simple test project to check this effect.

As there were no LCOV updates recently I suspect the real reason is the GCC an
GCOV update some days ago. I checked with older GCC and GCOV than the current
ones in testing (gcc-4.3 and gcov-4.3 vs. gcc-4.4 and gcov-4.4) and it worked
as expected. Using LCOV 1.8 from ltp.sourceforge.net/coverage/lcov.php didn't
help to get the 4.4 versions working.

 Yes, see http://lists.debian.org/debian-mips/2010/01/msg9.html

Thanks for pointing that out.

In short: we could force -g0 for gcc, g++, gfortran, ... on some
arches' buildds (for some packages only!) but that would require
deep changes to the infrastructure (the gcc-defaults package) as
policy mandates building with -g, there is no easy way out of it
e.g. in cdbs and the mopac7 debian/rules appends -g to FFLAGS as
well, so a per-arch override would be a little difficult to do.

Well, I'm not set on CDBS, we can migrate mopac7 to debhelper if we can
more easily work around the bug then; mopac7 holds up ghemical's testing
transition as well, so I would like to see this move forward.

Once binutils is fixed, we can remove the -g0 work-around again.

Maybe it depends on the linux kernel version, or the architecture.

Bug#569931: closed by Andreas Barth a...@not.so.argh.org (Bug#569931: fixed in libjpeg6b 6b-16.1)

2010-02-15 Thread Wolfgang Walter
Hello,

I installed these vesions of libjpeg62 and libjpeg8 and this does NOT fix the
issue.

It still crashes in

jpeg_start_decompress () from /usr/lib/libjpeg.so.62

Not only kdm greeter crashes, konqueror and gwenview crash, too.

It must have something to do with the upgrade from kdelibs-bin, kdelibs5 and
libplasma3. If I downgraded them to 4:4.3.4-1 and reinstall liblzma1 the issue
disappears.

Regards,

Wolfgang Walter

If you fix the vulnerability please also make sure to include the
CVE id in your changelog entry.

This is already fixed in unstable, though it doesn't have the CVE in the
changelog entry (we fixed it before the CVE was published).

Bug#517707: [Debichem-devel] Bug#517707: ☹

2010-02-15 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Michael Banck dixit:

Well, I'm not set on CDBS, we can migrate mopac7 to debhelper

Yay! ;-)

if we can more easily work around the bug then

No idea about that off-hand, though. I'd have to look.

transition as well, so I would like to see this move forward.

Mh. Similar to how I have specific arch workarounds in the
mksh debian/rules file until e.g. dietlibc is fixed there...

It may already enough to use -g0 in FFLAGS in mopac7's
debian/rules on mipsel, although I have not tested that.
What I have tested is:
* remove -g from the langcore cdbs class
* remove -g from FFLAGS in mopac7 debian/rules
* build
That one works.

bye,

It must have something to do with the upgrade from kdelibs-bin, kdelibs5 and
libplasma3. If I downgraded them to 4:4.3.4-1 and reinstall liblzma1 the

Obviously it has to do with that. That's why we're rebuilding these
packages currently. After all of them are rebuilt things should get
better.

For technical details refer to the mails on that topic in
debian-release, http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2010/02/

Hi

This is the first step in a several-steps process, but the only one requiring
source changes.

Once kde4libs is rebuilt against the new libjpegs, it will be finally fixed.
The rebuilds is handled automatically though, so no way to close in change
log.

Bug#516560: freeguide in Debian

2010-02-15 Thread Vincent Bernat
OoO Lors de la soirée naissante du lundi 15 février 2010, vers 17:28,
Andy Balaam andybal...@artificialworlds.net disait :

It seems that you are willing to fix #516560 affecting freeguide. Since
you get no answer from Daniel, feel free to prepare an NMU. I will
upload it. Do not make invasive changes in packaging since this is an
 NMU.

Would this need to be a patch against 0.10.9 that contained only the
relevant fix, or could it be a package of the latest version
 (0.10.11)?

You can package the latest version. Invasive changes that should be
avoided:
 - changing patch system (if any)
 - switching from debhelper to cdbs (or from debhelper 5 to debhelper 7)
 - reworking all debian/copyright

I am not a Debian developer. I have made deb packages, but I am a
beginner and would need some help in preparing an NMU. Would you be
available to answer questions for me?

Sure, of course. Don't need to keep 516560@ in copy for those questions
(I leave the bug in copy of this mail to let people know that the
problem will be addressed soon).

Look at this for NMU:
 http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/pkgs.html#nmu

We are allowed to NMU since this is RC-bug older than 7 days.

After updating to xserver 1.7.5, the keyboard doesn't work, if I start the
xserver (it doesn't matter which window manager).
I get the following output if I start the xserver:
www.inf.tu-dresden.de/~s5569359/xstart.log

xev shows, that the key press events are recognized, but there is no keysym
found
e.g. a and Enter: www.inf.tu-dresden.de/~s5569359/c
I tried several keymaps. Executing xmodmap -pk while a xsession gives a normal
key table.

xinitrc and xsession are empty. libx11-6 and all orther related packages are
uptodate.

The event MPM is broken in Debian Etch. The following message appears in
the error.log:

[crit] (70023)This function has not been implemented on this platform:
Couldn't create a Thread Safe Pollset. Is it supported on your platform?
Pre-configuration failed

In order to be backwards compatible with 2.4 kernels, apr in Etch is compiled
without support for epoll(), except on the amd64 architecture.

Workarounds:

1) use apache2-mpm-worker or

2) get the apr source package from Debian testing and recompile it under Debian
etch. Install the resulting libapr1 package.

If there is demand, I can provide a recompiled apr for etch on backports.org.

Bug#562720: pidgin hangs if a jabber buddy opens a audio/video connection to you

2010-02-15 Thread Ari Pollak
severity 562720 important
thanks

Please accept my deepest apologies for downgrading the severity of a bug
that obviously did not meet the criteria for a serious severity. Let me
quote from the BTS manual:

serious
is a severe violation of Debian policy (roughly, it violates a must or
required directive), or, in the package maintainer's or release
manager's opinion, makes the package unsuitable for release.

Please point to the section of Debian policy that this bug violates.
Assuming your XMPP settings require that users must authenticate with
you before being able to send you messages, only your authenticated
users would be able to freeze your client, assuming they knew you were
actually affected by this bug. Not everyone sees this behavior, and it's
only on one protocol, but if you'd really like to hold up this package
from Debian stable, feel free to take it up with the release team or
tech-ctte.

Additionally, please try to refrain from changing the severity of a bug
that the maintainer has already triaged. If you disagree with a bug's
attributes, there are processes in place to get around them without
abusing the BTS.

Ideally, if I had the printer in question, I would have enough
information to be able to reproduce the problem. At the moment, I don't
even know whether I own such a printer (since I don't know what type it
is), and as I said, cups works for me. Since this is an RC bug, I'd
like to have the maintainers and other RC bug-fixers be able to have all
the information they need at hand to solve the problem.

There is nothing unusual in my settings (I just added the printers... -
default settings duplex). My guess is that the sole cause is pstopdf - I
mean printing works as soon as I downgrade to cups from stable.

Bug#517707: ☹

2010-02-15 Thread Daniel Leidert
Am Sonntag, den 14.02.2010, 15:25 + schrieb Thorsten Glaser:

Luk said we should hope for a binutils fix first and consider it
as a last resort thing, from what I understood.

For which fix? Matthias has forwarded the issue to the binutils mailing
list and the answer he got was: Use -fPIC. The upstream bug report does
not have any comment by upstream. And I also didn't get any answer to my
mail to the binutils mailing list.

hope for a fix - well, don't get me wrong, but atm it looks like this
will never be fixed.
