Bug#562575: Bug present in Sid D-i, but not in Squeeze d-i [Re: Bug#562575: installation-reports: Buisnesscard PowerPC installer loops with Segmentation faults]
At Norberto's suggestion I did a side-by side comparison of the PowerPC daily buisnesscard installer from the Sid d-i and the Squeeze d-i at http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/{squeeze,sid}_d-i/arch-latest/powerpc/iso-cd/ This build finished at Mon Feb 15 04:15:05 UTC 2010. (for Sid d-i) and This build finished at Mon Feb 15 04:17:52 UTC 2010. (for Squeeze) The Sid d-i failed with seg-faults. The Squeeze d-i did *not*. In fact, the squeeze d-i installer completed a normal installation and booted just fine. So... What do we do now? Bug#569904: gdm: fails to start because of broken dependencies
Le dimanche 14 février 2010 à 23:39 +0100, Marc Dequènes (Duck) a écrit : After an upgrade of the unstable suite a few minutes ago, gdm just fails to start because of missing libraries. Using ldd on the binary i found links with libdirect*, but as directfb with a new soname just entered the archive, and as there is no Depends on this library, the old one was removed (unused). It seems other libraries are also missing from the Depends line, like libxcb*. Please correct the Depends line, or the buld to remove the links. GDM doesn’t directly link to these libraries, as objdump -p /usr/sbin/gdm will show you. This bug has to belong in one of the dependencies. I suspect it is related to the libjpeg fiasco. -- .''`. Bug#569931: oxygen-ait theme crashes in libjpeg62
Package: kdebase-workspace-kgreet-plugins Version: 4:4.3.4-4 Severity: grave Since I upgraded unstable (today, 15.2.2010) kdms greeter crashes when using the theme /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes/oxygen-air with a segmentation fault (in libjpeg62 when decompressing). This dependency on libjpeg62-dev prevent packages Build-Depending on both libsdl-image1.2-dev and libjpeg-dev to install their dependencies, due to the conflict between libjpeg62-dev and libjpeg-dev. Bug#569932: devicekit-disks: completely unusable due to devkit-disks-daemon segfault
Package: devicekit-disks Version: 009-2 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Hi, As reported in the first message, it segfaults at startup: | Feb 15 11:29:01 frost kernel: [ 7524.054613] devkit-disks-da[20771]: | segfault at c ip 080660da sp bfb563b0 error 4 in devkit-disks-daemon[8048000+28000] Only that the re-login is not even a workarround because the second login does not even attempt to start devkit-disks-daemon as it is already started. I've checked this by killing the process and re-login and still the same segfault. This problem makes devkit-disks-daemon and all depending pieces from Gnome to not work (for example 'brasero'). I'm using k3b which still uses 'hal', but that's only for burning CD/DVDs. I cannot open any disc to see its content, nor can I umount any disc, not the icon status changes if I replace the current disc in the drive. The icon remains with the status of the first disc inserted (which for me is Blank DVD+R disc). Bug#569808: Empathy does not respect settings of remote desktop prefernces in gnome
severity 569808 important thanks On Sun, Feb 14, 2010 at 07:20:40PM +0100, kutio wrote: I think it's not a security problem, let me explain. If a user removes all access in gnome preferences and wants to share his desktop with a friend. He has to change all access in gnome-preferences, and after launch share my desktop, and when it's finish rechange gnome preferences and it's not really convenient. At the moment share my desktop doesn't care about gnome preferences, because if a user take the decision to share his desktop just for the session, it's his decision and gnome-preferences doesn't have to interfere. This solution is more convenient because if a user wants to share his desktop he doesn't need to change gnome-preferences, the feature does it for him and doesn't affect gnome-preferences in the future. So possibly empathy should offer an option to only share the desktop read-only instead of read-write? I don't think it warrants grave though, especially if the sharing is not done automatically on call but rather on request. If the latter's the case, feel free to reupgrade the bug. Bug#569975: python-moinmoin: Serious security issue in all moinmoin versions
Package: python-moinmoin Version: 1.5.3-1.2etch2 Severity: grave Tags: security Justification: user security hole Per http://moinmo.in/SecurityFixes, there is a major security issue in moin. It affects all moin versions from 1.5.0 up to and including 1.9.1. This means that all of these versions are vulnerable: etch (oldstable): 1.5.3-1.2etch2 lenny (stable): 1.7.1-3+lenny2 squeeze (testing) sid (unstable): 1.9.1-1 The Moin team has released 1.8.7, which patches the issue in 1.8.6. They have not yet issued a patch for any other branch, including the 1.9.1 branch, although it appears that they are working on it. That patch may be instructive on patching these other versions. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? found 569975 1.7.1-3+lenny2 found 569975 1.9.1-1 thanks The security team can coordinate this with Thomas Waldmann, who has contact information at http://moinmo.in/ThomasWaldmann and is on FreeNode as ThomasWaldmann. Here is an IRC conversation transcript: CosmicRay Hi folks. Question about the security problems: 1) am I right that there is no fix for 1.9.1 right now? 2) What's the deal with SecurityFixes/Installation referencing patches on SecurityFixes? I'm not seeing any recent patches on SecurityFixes. Has your policy for that stuff changed? ThomasWaldmann 1) yes, but soon ThomasWaldmann (except if you want to pull from repository, stuff is fixed there, but we are still testing, translators might need a bit to finish translation) ThomasWaldmann 2) it's not just a single patch, it is quite much, you don't want to apply them manually. if you need it now, do a repo checkout and you'll have 1.9.2pre kind of ThomasWaldmann and I am intentionally being rather vague on that page and not (yet?) linking to changesets, because disclosing too much info is dangerous for unpatched sites ThomasWaldmann 1.9.2 planned in about 1 or 2 weeks -- John -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#516560: freeguide in Debian
Hi Vincent, Vincent Bernat wrote: It seems that you are willing to fix #516560 affecting freeguide. Since you get no answer from Daniel, feel free to prepare an NMU. I will upload it. Do not make invasive changes in packaging since this is an NMU. Would this need to be a patch against 0.10.9 that contained only the relevant fix, or could it be a package of the latest version (0.10.11)? I am not a Debian developer. I have made deb packages, but I am a beginner and would need some help in preparing an NMU. Would you be available to answer questions for me? Bug#569984: WARNING: gcov did not create any files BUT: strange files produced
Package: lcov Version: 1.7-1 Severity: serious Hello, in a project with directory structure the run of LCOV doesn't produce the desired *.info file any more. It states for instance: Processing ./lib/stage2/i3.gcda geninfo: WARNING: gcov did not create any files for LcovTst/lib/stage2/i3.gcda! The source i3.c is located in LcovTst/lib/ and the LCOV run produces a file LcovTst/lib/stage2/..#i3.c.gcov In the *.info file there are just TN: lines. I will send a very simple test project to check this effect. As there were no LCOV updates recently I suspect the real reason is the GCC an GCOV update some days ago. I checked with older GCC and GCOV than the current ones in testing (gcc-4.3 and gcov-4.3 vs. gcc-4.4 and gcov-4.4) and it worked as expected. Using LCOV 1.8 from ltp.sourceforge.net/coverage/lcov.php didn't help to get the 4.4 versions working. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#517707: [Debichem-devel] Bug#517707: ☹
On Sun, Feb 14, 2010 at 03:25:16PM +, Thorsten Glaser wrote: Michael Banck dixit: Did you do some more work on this, you mentioned 01:48 mira -rw-r--r-- 1 root root1589 Jan 24 00:47 mopac7_1.15-1_mipsel.changes Yes, see http://lists.debian.org/debian-mips/2010/01/msg9.html Thanks for pointing that out. In short: we could force -g0 for gcc, g++, gfortran, ... on some arches' buildds (for some packages only!) but that would require deep changes to the infrastructure (the gcc-defaults package) as policy mandates building with -g, there is no easy way out of it e.g. in cdbs and the mopac7 debian/rules appends -g to FFLAGS as well, so a per-arch override would be a little difficult to do. Well, I'm not set on CDBS, we can migrate mopac7 to debhelper if we can more easily work around the bug then; mopac7 holds up ghemical's testing transition as well, so I would like to see this move forward. Once binutils is fixed, we can remove the -g0 work-around again. Michael -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Hello, I installed these vesions of libjpeg62 and libjpeg8 and this does NOT fix the issue. It still crashes in jpeg_start_decompress () from /usr/lib/libjpeg.so.62 Not only kdm greeter crashes, konqueror and gwenview crash, too. It must have something to do with the upgrade from kdelibs-bin, kdelibs5 and libplasma3. If I downgraded them to 4:4.3.4-1 and reinstall liblzma1 the issue disappears. I'd have to look. transition as well, so I would like to see this move forward. Mh. Similar to how I have specific arch workarounds in the mksh debian/rules file until e.g. dietlibc is fixed there... It may already enough to use -g0 in FFLAGS in mopac7's debian/rules on mipsel, although I have not tested that. What I have tested is: * remove -g from the langcore cdbs class * remove -g from FFLAGS in mopac7 debian/rules * build That one works. bye, //mirabilos -- Sometimes they [people] care too much: pretty printers [and syntax highligh- ting, d.A.] mechanically produce pretty output that accentuates irrelevant detail in the program, which is as sensible as putting all the prepositions in English text in bold font. -- Rob Pike in Notes on Programming in C -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Hi This is the first step in a several-steps process, but the only one requiring source changes. Once kde4libs is rebuilt against the new libjpegs, it will be finally fixed. Bug#516560: freeguide in Debian
OoO Lors de la soirée naissante du lundi 15 février 2010, vers 17:28, Andy Balaam andybal...@artificialworlds.net disait : It seems that you are willing to fix #516560 affecting freeguide. You can package the latest version. Invasive changes that should be avoided: - changing patch system (if any) - switching from debhelper to cdbs (or from debhelper 5 to debhelper 7) - reworking all debian/copyright I am not a Debian developer. I have made deb packages, but I am a beginner and would need some help in preparing an NMU. Would you be available to answer questions for me? Sure, of course. Don't need to keep 516560@ in copy for those questions (I leave the bug in copy of this mail to let people know that the problem will be addressed soon). Look at this for NMU: http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/pkgs.html#nmu We are allowed to NMU since this is RC-bug older than 7 days. -- BOFH excuse #358: struck by the Good Times virus pgpKkA2DRp3US.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#562720: pidgin hangs if a jabber buddy opens a audio/video connection to you
severity 562720 important thanks Please accept my deepest apologies for downgrading the severity of a bug that obviously did not meet the criteria for a serious severity. Let me quote from the BTS manual: serious is a severe violation of Debian policy (roughly, it violates a must or required directive), or, in the package maintainer's or release manager's opinion, makes the package unsuitable for release. Please point to the section of Debian policy that this bug violates. Assuming your XMPP settings require that users must authenticate with you before being able to send you messages, only your authenticated users would be able to freeze your client, assuming they knew you were actually affected by this bug. Not everyone sees this behavior, and it's only on one protocol, but if you'd really like to hold up this package from Debian stable, feel free to take it up with the release team or tech-ctte. Additionally, please try to refrain from changing the severity of a bug that the maintainer has already triaged. If you disagree with a bug's attributes, there are processes in place to get around them without abusing the BTS. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#517707: FTBFS mopac7_1.14-2(mipsel/unstable) ☹
Am Montag, den 15.02.2010, 18:17 + schrieb Thorsten Glaser: Michael Banck dixit: Well, I'm not set on CDBS, we can migrate mopac7 to debhelper Yay! ;-) Well, in the long term I would suggest we migrate all packages to dh7. It is usually easier to handle. if we can more easily work around the bug then No idea about that off-hand, though. I'd have to look. A patch [1] has been committed to our SVN. Michael or Torsten: Please test. If it works (it did work as expected, but I did not test on mips*), we can upload. I'm using cups 1.4.2-8 and have no problems. Can you perhaps send the relevant parts of /var/log/cups/error_log ? Also, what printer are you using and how is it set up (an IP printer, printing to another CUPS server, local USB printer, etc.)? it is an ip printer. cups from stable works reliably... what other info do you need? The make and model of the printer would be helpful. So would the output of lpstat -t -p printer-name (substituting the actual printer name), and the relevant parts of the cups error log. Also, anything else that you think might be relevant: if you configured cups or the printer in an unusual or special way, those settings, for example. This does not happen with just a single printer, but the 2 postscript network printers I have here (HP Color LaserJet 4700 and a xerox phaser 6180dn). The HP is accessed via lpd:// and the xerox via socket://ip:9100 Ideally, if I had the printer in question, I would have enough information to be able to reproduce the problem. At the moment, I don't even know whether I own such a printer (since I don't know what type it is), and as I said, cups works for me. Since this is an RC bug, I'd like to have the maintainers and other RC bug-fixers be able to have all the information they need at hand to solve the problem. There is nothing unusual in my settings (I just added the printers... - default settings duplex). My guess is that the sole cause is pstopdf - I mean printing works as soon as I downgrade to cups from stable. Matthias has forwarded the issue to the binutils mailing list and the answer he got was: Use -fPIC. The upstream bug report does not have any comment by upstream. And I also didn't get any answer to my mail to the binutils mailing list. hope for a fix - well, don't get me wrong, but atm it looks like this will never be fixed.
