Bug#572648: unifdef: copyright file is out of date

 Severity: serious

We are not violating any licenses as far as I can tell since the
distributed unifdef.1 and /usr/bin/unifdefall reproduce the required
notices. So I would prefer to call this minor (a documentation bug),
but it is technically serious (I think) because of the policy for
 debian/copyright.

No. This is normal only. Please do not overinflating bug importance.

The debian/copyright file is AFAICT incomplete:

The recent upstream changes have created some license complexity. I
will try to sort them out. This will be addressed in a future upload.

In the meantime:

The original license was the 4-clause BSD license by the Regents of
the University of California. They have authorized the removal of the
advertising clause in any of their material bearing their 4-clause
license. That allowed all distributors to distribute files with the
3-clause license. This is specifically allowed from the Regents of
the University of California and does not cover other licensees
distributing with the 4-clause license.

Tony Finch has been removing old code and writing new code to replace
it and has replaced the entirety of the previous with his own new
code. Along with it he has replaced the copyright with his notice.
He has chosen a 2-clause license.

I released my code with an all permissive license.

Tony's test harness has been released into the public domain.

The entire project as a blanket has been placed under a 2-clause
license. As stated in the project files all contributions are under
the 2-clause license found in unifdef.c.

Fortunately all of those are compatible free licenses.

Bob

Bug#548446: [gnome-session] Gnome doesn't start since gnome-session upgrade

2010-03-06 Thread Juhan Ernits

Hi!

This bug just exhibited itself when upgrading from an older version of Gnome2 to
the current testing 2.28.0-6. Gnome starts fine for a user with a freshly
created account but hangs just after displaying the background
image with accounts with old Gnome2 configuration present.

In my case the solution was to remove the following
files/directories:

~/.nautilus
~/.gconf/%gconf-tree.xml

~/.gconf/apps/panel

Cheers,

Juhan Ernits

The additional symptoms of the hang were devkit-disks-daemon and dbus-daemon
taking ~20% each of cpu:

Bug#572648: unifdef: copyright file is out of date

2010-03-06 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Hi again,

Bob Proulx wrote:

This is normal only. Please do not overinflating bug importance.

Your call, of course. I personally consider it minor. But so I
understand for the future: isn’t this a policy “must” directive? I am
thinking of [1], which says the copyright information and license must
be reproduced verbatim in the copyright file.

Yes, that sounds reasonable. It was a good change in my opinion,
since it decreases the complexity of the license for unifdef.c.

Tony did not write the manual, so that is still under the 3-clause
BSD license.

I released my code with an all permissive license.

Yes.

Tony's test harness has been released into the public domain.

AIUI that is considered legally problematic in some places, so he used
the “CC0 public domain explanation”. Where releasing code to the
public domain is valid, that is what that means; elsewhere, it is a
license. It was probably the right choice to make it clear to
everyone what their rights are. Doing that requires a long document,
unfortunately.

The entire project as a blanket has been placed under a 2-clause
license. As stated in the project files all contributions are under
the 2-clause license found in unifdef.c.

I do not understand your first sentence here. I think the README is
saying that patches will be assumed to be under the 2-clause BSD
license.

Fortunately all of those are compatible free licenses.

Yes. Further, we are complying with all of them, by including the
notices that are missing from debian/copyright in /usr/bin/unifdefall
and /usr/share/man/man1/unifdef.1.

Hoping that is clearer,
Jonathan

croak Can't connect to display `unix:$dispnum': $! unless $sock;

so that's the error you get.

$dispnum comes from X11::Protocol:

if ($main::ENV{'DISPLAY'}) {
$display = $main::ENV{'DISPLAY'};
} else {
carp Can't find DISPLAY -- guessing `$Default_Display:0';
$display = $Default_Display:0;
}

Since you don't get this Can't find DISPLAY warning, I assume that
$DISPLAY is set in your environment.
Which maybe leads us to /tmp/.X11-unix/X$dispnum in
X11::Protocol::Connection::UNIXSocket

Could you please send to output of
$ echo $DISPLAY
$ ls -l /tmp/.X11-unix/

Cheers,
gregor

Hi,

Petter remarked on IRC that debian-edu-artwork breaks kdm in squeeze. To
reproduce: setup a squeeze system with kdm, install debian-edu-artwork,
restart kdm, voila :(

Should hopefully be fairly easy to fix :-)

cheers,
Holger

Bug#572760: FTBFS: /dev/urandom: hGetChar: invalid argument (Invalid or incomplete multibyte or wide character)

2010-03-06 Thread Joachim Breitner
Package: src:kaya
Version: 0.4.4-3
Severity: serious

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Hi,

as can be seen here:
https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=kayaarch=kfreebsd-amd64ver=0.4.4-3stamp=1267577990file=logas=raw
kaya fails to build from source with a current ghc6-6.12. This also
affects other, non-Debian-users:
http://lists.kayalang.org/archives/kaya-devel/2010-January/000644.html

The reason seems to be that kayac uses hGetChar to read from
/dev/urandom. With ghc6-6.12, hGetChar tries to read a char according to
the current locale, which can be UTF-8, and a random byte is not always
a valid UTF-8 character...

A proper fix would be to use hGetBuf. A work-arond would be to use
hSetBinaryMode on the handle before using hGetChar.

Greetings,
Joachim

Bug#572769: debian-edu-artwork: Buttons in kdm theme do not work with kdm version 4:4.3.4-3

2010-03-06 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: debian-edu-artwork
Version: 0.0.30-1
Severity: serious
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
UserTags: debian-edu

The buttons in the KDM theme do not work with kdm version 4:4.3.4-3.
The login button (id=login_button) and the menu button
(id=system_button). They worked with kdm version 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-6.
One can still log in using [enter] to submit the login information,
but it is impossible to switch session type and request a reboot using
the mouse.

See #570369 for more information on related issues with kdm in Lenny
and Squeeze. I suspect the button handling changed in kdm, but have
not been able to find any list of changes. The kdm theme format for
Squeeze is documented in
URL: http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kdebase-workspace/kdm/kdm-themes.html .

It might be possible and a good idea to create a theme that work with
both gdm and kdm, to get the same view independent of which display
manager is used.

Happy hacking,

I'm also unable to reproduce the bug. The wintree example works with
DISPLAY=:0.0 or explicitly set as DISPLAY=unix:0. I'm downgrading the severity
of the bug to 'important' since the package is usable at least to some of us.

Cheers,

This was fixed back in August 2008, in version 0.4.7-1, in experimental;
marking as such. (As a side note, 0.5.4-2 has since hit unstable and
successfully built everywhere).

Bug#572815: config-manager: uninstallable on amd64 - depends on python (= 2.6)

2010-03-06 Thread Jakub Wilk

Package: config-manager
Version: 0.4-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable (on amd64)

Hello,

config-manager on amd64 depends on python (= 2.6), which is not
available in sid.

I suspect that this bug was caused by building the package in a non-sid
environment. If that's the case, simple binNMU should be fix the bug.

Bug#572817: ruby1.9: CVE-2009-4124 buffer overflow

2010-03-06 Thread Michael Gilbert
Package: ruby1.9
Version: 1.9.0.5-1
Severity: serious
Tags: security

Hi,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities Exposures) id was
published for ruby1.9. Note this was fixed in 1.9.1, and it isn't
really clear whether it affects 1.9. I can't find enough info to say
either way. Please check.

CVE-2009-4124[0]:
| Heap-based buffer overflow in the rb_str_justify function in string.c
| in Ruby 1.9.1 before 1.9.1-p376 allows context-dependent attackers to
| execute arbitrary code via unspecified vectors involving (1)
| String#ljust, (2) String#center, or (3) String#rjust. NOTE: some of
| these details are obtained from third party information.

If you fix the vulnerability please also make sure to include the
CVE id in your changelog entry.

Hi,

The following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities Exposures) id was
published for libtool. I have determined that this package embeds a
vulnerable copy of the libtool source code. However, since this is a
mass bug filing (due to so many packages embedding libtool), I have not
had time to determine whether the vulnerable code is actually present
in any of the binary packages. Please determine whether this is the
case. If the binary packages are not affected, please feel free to close
the bug with a message containing the details of what you did to check.

CVE-2009-3736[0]:
| ltdl.c in libltdl in GNU Libtool 1.5.x, and 2.2.6 before 2.2.6b,
| attempts to open a .la file in the current working directory, which
| allows local users to gain privileges via a Trojan horse file.

Note that this problem also affects etch and lenny, so if your package
is affected, please coordinate with the security team to release the
DSA for the affected packages.

If you fix the vulnerability please also make sure to include the
CVE id in your changelog entry.

Package: vlc-data
Version: 1.0.5-1
Severity: serious

I backported vlc myself for Lenny from unstable.

During the upgrade (from version 0.8.6.h-4+lenny2) I got the following
error:

Unpacking vlc-data (from .../vlc-data_1.0.5-1~bpo1_all.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/vlc-data_1.0.5-1~bpo1_all.deb
(--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/usr/share/pixmaps/vlc.png', which is also in package vlc

As I did not make any changes that would affect this, I expect the file
conflict will also affect Lenny-Squeeze upgrades.

Bug#566692: hplip-gui: can't add printer (Printer queue setup failed)

 Hello,

I cannot add a printer thought HPLIP Toolbox :
 - I launch HPLIP Toolbox, then obtain a message No Installed HP Devices
 Found.
 - I press Setup Device, Network/Ethernet[...], Next
 - the printer is discovered (HP Officejet 7200 Series), I press Next
 - a panel Setup Device is shown, with my printer parameters (and Fax
Setup checked). I confirm by clicking on Add Printer.
 - a popup is chown Printer queue setup failed. Please restart CUPS and try
again. Of course restarting CUPS doesn't help.

This printer was working in a previous Debian version (etch or lenny, I don't
 remember).

Do you need to become a member of the group lpadmin?

Per the instructions located at:
/usr/share/doc/cups/README.txt.gz

If this is the case then we need to make that more explicit in the hplip
installation.

Oliver, Michael, could I ask you both to check and see if the lpadmin group
assists?

I've just successfully built pygtk 2.16.0-2 in a cowbuilder environment.

Is there anything special in your setup? What do you mean with 'regular user'?
