LaTeX::Driver v0.08
---

LaTeX::Driver runs either the 'latex' or 'pdflatex' command on a LaTeX
document. If unresolved cross references, bibliographic references or
index definitions are found then 'bibtex' or 'makeindex' will be run
as appropriate and 'latex' or 'pdflatex' re-run as necessary. The
output will be postprocessed with the 'dvips' and 'ps2pdf' programs if
necessary to create PDF, DVI or PostScript documents.

To use the module you will first need to install LaTeX on your system
and make sure the above programs are available. Answer the following
questions to confirm their locations, then run 'make', 'make test' and
'make install'.

We need to find where it is failing.

Could you rebuild the clisp image with --debug in the configure flags
and then run clisp in gdb to see where it fails?

LC_ALL=C LANG=C sudo gdb /usr/bin/clisp

run  -norc -q -M /usr/lib/clisp-2.49/full/lispinit-orig.mem

then get a backtrace of the failure.

Bug#599245: not fit for squeeze

2010-10-05 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: splashy
Version: 0.3.13-5.1+b1
Severity: serious

Hi,

imho splashy is not fit for being released in squeeze:
1/ It does not work with KMS which is the default for all major graphics
drivers
2/ Has a long list of important bugs
3/ Breaks the boot badly. At the end of the boot process I only have a
black screen and gdm never shows up. I need to hard-reset the machine.
4/ Due to startpar in makefile being the default, progress bar support
is broken, making splashy even less useful.
5/ Development of splashy is dead (at least there has been no activity
for a very long time).

I'm not the maintainer of splashy but in its current state I think the
package should not be released with squeeze (as was usplash) and we
would do our users a disservice having this package in squeeze.

It might be worth considering dropping the package altogether, but I'll
leave that decision up to the package maintainer.

Cheers,
Michael

 No, this commit doesn't fix this bug. According to my test case,

Bug#599239: gauche-gtk: FTBFS against gdk-pixbuf 2.22.0-1 (experimental)

2010-10-05 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Package: gauche-gtk
Version: 0.4.1-13
Severity: serious
Tags: experimental patch
Justification: fails to build from source (but built successfully in the past)

It appears that if built against gdk-pixbuf as it is in experimental
(basically with gdk-pixbuf headers separate from the gtk2.0 files),
gauche-gtk does not complete build as it fails to analyze headers.

Passing on the patch that was applied on Ubuntu to fix the problem, since
you may want to apply it once past the current release cycle.

Bug#599237: MITKRB5-SA-2010-006 [CVE-2010-1322]

2010-10-05 Thread Sam Hartman
package: krb5-kdc
version: 1.8.3+dfsg~beta1-1
severity: grave

This bug tracks a DOS in krb5-kdc greater than version 1.8. I'll upload
the official patch tomorrow.

MIT's advisory talks about arbitrary code execution and other attacks;
I'm dubious about how practical these are based on how the code is built
in Debian, but it's easier to fix promptly than to analyze.

Bug#591976: Embedded chart_library/*.swf in Jifty::Plugin::Chart

2010-10-05 Thread David Bremner

Hi Raphael;

Thanks for finding this. As far as I can tell, the flash wrapped by this
module is not actually available in source form. It seems to be copy of
the library

   http://www.maani.us/xml_charts/index.php

Since the package has only a popcon of 5, I lean towards just removing
it from the archive.

Yves, I've copied you on this report in case you can shed any light on
where the files under share/web/static/flash/xmlswf come from, and if
the source for these files is available.

All the best,

I tested both 5.0.6 and daily d-i images under a 64-bit capable host
running lenny with a 686 kernel, and the 'lm' flag was not set in either
guest.

Please specify exactly which versions of kvm/qemu-kvm and the kernel you
are running in the host, and whether you are using the kvm modules from
the linux-image-2.6.26-2-686 or built from kvm-source.

Ben.

Bug#599200: base-installer: Install amd64 kernel on i686 kvm guest - and fail to boot

2010-10-05 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Lennart Sorensen]
> Well try starting the kvm with '-cpu qemu32'. That should provide
> the feature flags of a nice 32bit x86.

I tried  this by adding

qemu32

to the libvirtm XML file for the virtual machine, which caused '-cpu
qemu32' to be part of the kvm command line. There is no GUI to add
this in virt-manager, as far as I can see, so this will be out of
reach for most users. No idea if this give hardware virtualization or
software virtualization. The qemu part of the model name make me
suspect the latter.

Anyway, booting the virtual machine and looking at the CPU flags in
cpuinfo, I can confirm that the lm flag is gone. I also tried with
model=pentium3, and this too did not have the lm flag. This solve my
imediate problem of testing the Debian Edu DVD, but do not address the
problem for the unexpecting user of kvm.

Happy hacking,

Hi,

During a rebuild of all packages in a squeeze chroot, your package failed
to build on amd64.

The full build log is available from:

http://people.debian.org/~lucas/logs/2010/09/06/xen-tools_4.2~rc1-1_lsqueeze64.buildlog

It is possible that your package builds fine in sid, but you should make sure
that your package also builds fine in squeeze before the release.

A list of current common problems and possible solutions is available at
http://wiki.debian.org/qa.debian.org/FTBFS . You're welcome to contribute!

About the archive rebuild: The rebuild was done on about 50 AMD64 nodes
of the Grid'5000 platform, using a clean chroot. Internet was not
accessible from the build systems.

Hi

libpoe-api-peek-perl 1.3400-1 FTBFS in sid, but not in squeeze. The
difference I see is libpoe 2:1.2920-1 in unstable:

Taging this only affecting squeeze as libpoe-perl is blocked by

Oh, that's a relief. :)

You can forget everything I said, then. I leave it to you
to decide whether the notify-sharp bug is still release-critical or
just a nice thing to have.

Well try starting the kvm with '-cpu qemu32'. That should provide the
feature flags of a nice 32bit x86.

Then see what cpu flags you get in the guest.

As for the problem that the guest sees the lm flag on a 32bit
host, that was at least a known bug last year (for example:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=481274), but I have no idea
if it has been solved yet.

Well, the host is using a 32-bit kernel too, so 64-bit kvm with
hardware virtualization is not really an option.

meta:/# kvm -cpu ?
x86   qemu64
x86   phenom
x86 core2duo
x86   qemu32
x86  coreduo
x86  486

x86 pentium2

meta:/#

This is the command line for the kvm instance in question:

  /usr/bin/kvm -S -M pc -m 512 -smp 1 -name pxetest
-uuid 9b733365-92e6-6b1f-7ad6-8a4f0caf6bfc

-usb -usbdevice tablet -vnc 127.0.0.1:6 -k en-us -vga cirrus
-soundhw es1370

Anyone know how to detect 32-bits kvm virtual machines on a 32-bits
host on a CPU capable of running 64-bit kernels? Can we just look at
the vendor_id, model name, cpu family and model settings and disable
amd64 as an option if these are listed:

  vendor_id   : GenuineIntel
  cpu family  : 6
  model   : 2
  model name : QEMU Virtual CPU version 0.10.0

Happy hacking,

thanks

I've been trying to debug this. Upstream has a bug which they claim to
have fixed - the test case they finally came up with at the above URL
throws the same assertion, but gave a different stack trace.

Upstream's patch is here: http://svn.gnucash.org/trac/changeset/17962 -
it would need backporting to apply to 2.2.x. That doesn't look too
hard.

Frustratingly, I did manage to trigger an identical stack trace this
evening while copy/pasting some numbers in a split transaction, but I
didn't then manage to turn this into a second test case that would give
me some more confidence that these two were the same bug.

Vincent: were you using the "Transaction journal", "Auto-split ledger"
or "Basic ledger" view? Is there a chance the duplicate transaction you
describe is from a copy/paste via the Transaction menu?

I did not follow the full discussion, but it seems like the
xfce4-notify bug was fixed, leaving only a notify-sharp bug (lack of
robustness in the face of unexpected input from the notification
daemon).

If this isn't fixed in time for squeeze, maybe it would make sense to
declare

Conflicts: xfce4-notifyd (<< 0.1.0-3)

from the libnotify0.4-cil package to cope better with partially
upgraded systems? It's a shame there is no Broken-by dependency to use.

Even better, would it be reasonable to fix xfce4-notifyd in lenny?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Is that not intercepted to display a logout/shutdown/restart dialogue box?
(I always set things up so that that happens when in X.)

Anyway, that the computer is hung makes it not a xine bug but some
combination of X driver bug and kernel bug. You will have to reassign this
accordingly and bump the severity.

One of these will help you to get log info:

This would suggest that the nvidia taintware is the cause.

Reduced to important because it's not a xine problem.

(I was tempted to just close it on seeing "nvidia". Consider yourself lucky.)

I suspect if you run kvm with the -cpu option you can specify what you
desire. I believe the default is to simply match whatever the host has,
so if the host has a 64bit cpu, then the guest will too.

# kvm -cpu ?
x86   qemu64
x86   phenom
x86 core2duo
x86kvm64
x86   qemu32
x86  coreduo
x86  486
x86  pentium
x86 pentium2
x86 pentium3
x86   athlon
x86 n270

So if you say you want a pentium3, then you should not have any 64bit
support. The coreduo probably won't either.

I think the first 4 have 64bit support and the rest do not.

H. :( My NMU has been accepted already, but I think that's all
right - there was definitely a missing dependency on the -good plugins.

That seems vaguely recent. You might want to install the -ugly plugins
too, which contains libgstmpegaudioparse.so and other promising-looking
names.

Can you try running:

  gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=file:///path/to/the.mp3

I think there's a bigger problem with mp3splt-gtk here - it shouldn't
crash and burn when gstreamer throws an error. But that actually
requires a patch...

If installing the -ugly plugins makes it work, maybe this bug could be
downgraded to "important"? It's just a crash in an error case, by that
point.

Bug#599200: base-installer: Install amd64 kernel on i686 kvm guest - and fail to boot

thanks

[Lennart Sorensen]

Assuming this is true, I suggest two things are done to make sure d-i
work on 32-bits kvm guests on a lenny based kvm host.

 (1) base-installer is changed to detect 32-bits kvms and to not
 propose amd64 kernels in this situation. Not quite sure how to
 detect 32-bit kvms.

 (2) a bug is repoted against some kvm related package, to try to get
 it to stop listing the lm CPU flag for 32-bit kvm guests. Not
 quite sure which package it should be reported against. Perhaps
 qemu-kvm?

I've asked the kvm maintainer to provide input in this bug, to see if
we can figure out a good way to solve it.

Happy hacking,

The guest explicitly says it is a 64bit capable CPU (lm flag is present).
So it hence must work with a 64bit kernel. A 64bit kernel should be
the best choice for a machine with those specifications, so the installer
correctly picks and installs that one.

Bug#598819: Bug similar to 598819 reported in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

2010-10-05 Thread r.duc...@gmail.com
The bug 598819 I reported is similar to the one reported in xserver-xorg-
video-nouveau:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=595173

You might want to redirect my report to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau, which
seems more appropriate.

Thanks

Hello,
This part of tools/PTmender.c produces an endless loop, (debugging
statement added):
char opt;
[...]
while ((opt = getopt(argc, argv, "o:f:hsqd")) != -1) {

// o   -> set output file
// h   -> help?
// q   -> quiet?

switch(opt) {

case 'o': // specifies output file name
if (StringtoFullPath(&panoFileName, optarg) != 0) {
PrintError("Syntax error: Not a valid pathname");
return(-1);
}
break;
case 's':
sort = 1;
break;
case 'd':
ptDebug = 1;
break;
case 'q':
ptQuietFlag = 1;
break;

case 'h':
PrintError(PT_MENDER_USAGE);
return -1;

default:
PrintError("Bug 599092, endless loop");
break;
}
}

Changing opt from char to int (Thank you www.opengroup.org example
code) fixes the issue.

The 'lm' flag means this system has 64bit support. If in fact it doesn't,
then the VM is broken. The installer did the right thing based on the
CPU feature flags.

Most people would prefer the 64bit kernel with 32bit userspace. I think
there is an option in expert mode to select your kernel yourself from
a list, but unless you are in expert mode you probably shouldn't care
and would tend to prefer the 64bit kernel.

Many thanks. I'll look at integrating that into the Debian package
this week.

It is no new breakage, 2.9.14's testsuite gets stuck at exactly the
same point, the debian package just did not run it then.

Bug#599205: phonon-backend-vlc: kde is playing sounds via pcspeaker, instead of soundcard

2010-10-05 Thread spamfang
Package: phonon-backend-vlc
Version: 0.2.0-1
Severity: serious

With phonon-backend-vlc KDE is unable to play sounds at all. Instead sounds
like "preview" in Dolphin are played using the
internal pc-speaker. Also i have read, that this backend requires VLC 1.1.4,
which is not shipped in Squeeze. Perhaps
this may get the sound to work properly.

Thanks for reporting this FTBFS; this also caused a fix for a bug in

I shall close this bug once libitpp gets built.

almost, missing “-d experimental”. ;) I did so for kfreebsd-i386 as
well.

Thanks for your investigation and for the follow-up.

Bug#599200: base-installer: Install amd64 kernel on i686 kvm guest - and fail to boot

2010-10-05 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: base-installer
Version: 1.110
Severity: grave
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
UserTags: debian-edu

I discovered this using the Debian Edu DVD and installing on a i686
kvm guest on a i686 Lenny host. The problem is that installation now
is successfull, but the installed machine fail to boot. The grub menu
show up but the boot do not succeed. After selecting the grub menu
item, the machine reboot right away. This used to work before the
apt-setup problems #595903 and #598457 made it impossible to test the
DVD. Now these problems are fixed but the installation is broken in a
new way. :)

I debugged this slightly, and the problem seem to be that d-i
installed a amd64 kernel on the 32-bit guest, and kvm is failing to
boot the kernel. Booting in rescue mode and installing the 486 kernel
get the system running.

The Debian Edu DVD only include two kernels, 486 and amd64, to make
room for user applications on the DVD.

I looked at the installation log, and base-installer is looking for
the 686, 686-bitmem, amd64 and 486 kernels in that order, and end up
installing the wrong kernel for this machine. I spoke with Ben
Hutchings on IRC, and he said the amd64 kernel is listed as an option
because the kvm CPU incorrectly list 'lm' as a CPU flag. I looked in
/proc/cpuinfo and the lm flag is listed there.

This worked a few weeks ago, and I would really want it to work to
install Squeeze also on "broken" kvm hosts.

Setting severity to grave, as this leads to unbootable systems, and is
a regression from Lenny and earlier versions of Squeeze.

Happy hacking,

Dear Cyril,

Could you please arrange to have libitpp 4.2-1 rebuilt with blas 1.2-8
on kfreebsd-amd64? That should solve this bug.

dw libitpp_4.2-1 . kfreebsd-amd64 . -m 'libblas-dev (>= 1.2-8)'

Thanks!

This is actually quite a different bug and the reason we requested
twitux to be removed from testing: Twitter now requires use of OAuth
authentication, which twitux does not implement. Thus, it can no
longer access anything other than public info.

There is, afaik, a patch available for this, but it requires a library
not yet in sid.

Hi,

I have moved to wicd from nm and have started gnome-keyring-daemon in my
xfce session (I now have xfce starting gnome session cruft). I can
receive the Twitux and public timelines but cannot connect to twitter.

Debian sid here.

I might run a gnome session and see if there is a difference in how it
works.

Hi Ryan,

This is the same bug we discussed a while back on IRC (and the subject
says it all really anyway). I'm filing it here now partly as a reminder
for you (since it's been a while), partly as notice for the release team
(since including this in squeeze if it doesn't work at all seems silly),
and partly as documentation for an NMU I might do if you don't have any
reasons to object to that.

Cheers,
Ron

Bug#599183: mlmmj-php-web-admin: Web interface fails with 'no such file or directory' error for tunables.pl

2010-10-05 Thread David North
Package: mlmmj-php-web-admin
Version: 1.2.15-1.1+lenny1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Having apt-get installed mlmmj-php-web-admin on the same lenny system as mlmmj,
I followed
/usr/share/doc/mlmmj-php-admin/README.Debian and ended up with the following
apache2 configuration:

ServerName lists.mydomain.tld
DocumentRoot /var/www/mlmmj-php-web-admin/

ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/lists.mydomain.tld/error.log
CustomLog /var/log/apache2/lists.mydomain.tld/access.log combined

AllowOverride all
Options -Indexes

I also ran sudo chown -R www-data on the control directories for my lists as
instructed.

I then browsed to http://lists.mydomain.tld/, logged in with mlmmj:mlmmj as
instructed, clicked on the
name of my test list, and got the following errors:

Warning: fopen(../conf/tunables.pl) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: No

bug 553550 was tagged lenny-ignore as it looks related, and the package as it
stands in lenny is unusable.

IMHO kchmviewer should recommend okular-extra-backends

This seems to be somehow related to libdbi, downgrading to
libdbi0_0.8.2-3_i386.deb fixes the failure. Reassigning.

I have no clue what might be a problem because this failure seems to be
i386 specific (I can not reproduce it on x86_64 and the only failing
buildds are hurd-i386 and i386).

The problem seems to be that libdbi does not return query results even
when there should be some (basically just INSERT; INSERT; SELECT;
returns empty set).

Also strange enough, just single test out of several ones using libdbi
is failing, I assume some interaction with Python as it is the only
difference of failing test compared to others (the test is using
gammu module for Python, which is linked to libdbi).

Bug#585614: Fails to open any mp3's to split

Yes, it sounds like it, except ...

I do have -plugins-good installed here.

For most files I toss at it, today I currently see in the bottom bar:
gstreamer error: internal data flow error

and then it hangs hard. I tried that with both .ogg (vorbis) and mp3
files. I did find a couple of files that it doesn't hang on - except
it doesn't actually seem to find any content in them, it both 'plays'
and shows silence in the display. The ones that partly work all seem
to be 'oddball' files in one manner or another - they are all mono,
and at sampling rates other than 44100. Every stereo 44100 file I've
tossed at it so far seems to hang. The oddball files are also a mix
of .ogg and .mp3

Of gstreamer, I currently have installed:

$ dpkg -l | grep gstreamer
ii gstreamer0.10-alsa 0.10.29-4 GStreamer plugin for ALSA
ii gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg 0.10.10-1 FFmpeg plugin for GStreamer
ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-base 0.10.29-4 GStreamer plugins from the
"base" set
ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-good 0.10.23-4 GStreamer plugins from the
"good" set
ii gstreamer0.10-x 0.10.29-4 GStreamer plugins for X11 and
Pango
ii libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-0 0.10.29-4 GStreamer libraries from the
"base" set
ii libgstreamer0.10-0 0.10.29-1 Core GStreamer libraries and
elements

Cheers,
Ron

Bug#599154: xine-ui: xine locks up machine while playing

2010-10-05 Thread James Zuelow
Package: xine-ui
Version: 0.99.6-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

While watching any video over 20 minutes, xine will cause the system to
crash.

I hear an audible "dee-dee-dah-dun" sound, which I think is the ACPI
shutdown sound, or perhaps the hibernate sound.

Just after the sound, the video goes black. The video
sound continues for one or two seconds, then stops.

At that point the system is completely unresponsive.

I've tried typing blind to switch to a virtual console to restart the
system or restart X, which Google searches indicated might be possible.
In my case, it is not.

Pressing the power button momentarily to start the shutdown process does
not work. I have to hold down the power button to force a shutdown.

If I am *not* watching a video with xine, the machine does not
spontaneously shut down. I have power settings in KDE set to keep the
machine up 24/7 if AC power is supplied. Xine will shut down the
machine even if AC power is supplied.

I can remove the battery and run on only AC power, and xine will still
cause the shutdown so I do not think it is a battery issue.

There are no log entries in /var/log/syslog to indicate a shutdown or
hibernation took place. The log just stops, and starts again after I
power cycle the machine.

This is an HP DV9000Z laptop, with amd CPU and nvidia graphics. A similar
issue is
listed here:

http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=51904

however in my case switching the video away from "auto" (the default) or
xv does not resolve the matter.

Listed as critical because it affects every other process on the
computer when it crashes.

KDE desktop, current as of October 4 2010.
