Bug#677146: python-uno uses unopkg from libreoffice-common in preinst without declaring Pre-Depends

2012-11-03 Thread Michael Gilbert
control: reopen -1

A lot going on in this bug report, but after a cursory look, it seems
that unstable would still be affected, and being an rc bug, I'm
reopening to appropriately track it as an unfixed issue there.

Best wishes,
Mike

Package: ekiga
Version: 3.2.7-4.2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Since a few weeks ago, Ekiga crashes on startup (shortly after showing
the main window) and I cannot use it at all. It doesn't seem to happen
100% of the times, though, but the problem is very easy to reproduce.

Here's the output from GDB:

The original closure report only closed the bug for the version in
experimental, the bug was still listed as open in unstable:
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?pkg=ekiga;dist=unstable

reopening is not the way to indicate it effects specific versions, rather
 please
use the 'found' element of bts.

It distorts udd views. I'm fixing that so we have a better view of
what needs really needs fixing:

Package: python-uno
Version: 1:3.5.3-5
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 7.2

during an upgrade, the python-uno preinst script calls:

/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/unopkg

This file seems to come from the libreoffice-core pacakge. According
to the policy:

Pre-Depends are also required if the preinst script depends on
the named package

I found this when helping someone that was having trouble upgrading
from squeeze to wheezy and was getting a preinst failure due to this
file being missing.

Bug#677943: [Packaging] Bug#677943: release critical?

2012-11-03 Thread intrigeri
Hi,

(I managed to find some time to review this patch, finally.)

gregor herrmann wrote (27 Oct 2012 15:51:05 GMT) :
Which means we need to create the symlink for new installs and for
upgrades from this range. Correct so far?

I think so.

Here's an attempt to implement this idea:
[...]
 - if [ -z $prevver ] ; then
 +   if [ -z $prevver ] || \
 + dpkg --compare-versions $prevver ge 1.4.6-1~ \\
 + dpkg --compare-versions $prevver lt 1.4.7~ ; then
 # only create link on new installs
+ # or when upgrading from a version where it was removed
 unconditionally
 ln -s ../../munin/apache.conf /etc/$webserver/conf.d/munin
 fi
 if [ -f $webserver_init_script ];then
[...]
Please double-check if I got the logic right :)

Looks good to me.

Holger Levsen wrote (26 Oct 2012 23:56:23 GMT) :
I fear I might just be busy with DebConf13...

Thank you for taking care of this.

 I certainly loved a clear patch ;)

Then you should be happy with gregoa's one,
and Wheezy will have one less RC bug! :)

Cheers!

Dear maintainer,

I've prepared an NMU for couriergraph (versioned as 0.25-4.2) and
uploaded it to DELAYED/3. Please feel free to tell me if I
should delay it longer.

Perfectly fine. Thank you very much, Salvatore.

Would you be willing to sponsor a regular upload (to unstable) in which
we include all fixes, plus a couple enhancements?

Thanks again

Bug#688413: accountsservice: Makes gnome-shell crash libglib-2.0

2012-11-03 Thread Josselin Mouette
Hi,

Le vendredi 02 novembre 2012 à 09:53 +, Simon McVittie a écrit :
I've sent a possible patch to the upstream bug
 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50112 and built .debs
with that patch http://alioth.debian.org/~smcv/ (version 0.6.21-6+smcv1),
but since I can't reproduce the crash on-demand, I can't be very confident
that it has actually been fixed... testing or review welcome.

 Git repository (cloned from collab-maint):
 git://anonscm.debian.org/users/smcv/qa/accountsservice.git
 http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=users/smcv/qa/accountsservice.git

In particular, Josselin, since you have recipes that can apparently
reproduce this reliably (although they didn't work for me either...), it'd be
really useful if you could try the patched accountsservice library.

Thanks Simon for the patch. I can confirm it fixes #688413.

Let’s wait to see what upstream has to say about whether this is the
proper fix.

Good :)

Hm, this \\ does look like a typo ...

  # only create link on new installs

  unconditionally
  ln -s ../../munin/apache.conf

 So: no idea :/

At least it looks like the behaviour with xvfb is consistent to a real

It works without a problem if no DISPLAY variable is set (as it just

Hi Thomas,

I have updated the source package to 2.5.0 (checked copyrights, refreshed the

is needed on the Java side, but I am not able to do it.

I committed all my changes to the Git repository.

This code is introduced by a patch you added:

Obviously something is wrong with the cancellable management, because
new_session-cancellable exists but is not a valid GCancellable.

I tried with accountsservice 0.6.24 in experimental, but it is much
worse since it entirely prevents gnome-shell from starting up.

Package: bnetd
Version: 0.4.25-8
Severity: serious

Dear Maintainer,

Andreas Beckmann deb...@abeckmann.de reported in -devel that your package
(as well as 27 others) ships a folder either in /var/run or /var/lock. This
is forbidden by policy.

Lintian detects the problem and warns as follow:

/var/run may be a temporary filesystem, so any directories or files needed
/there must be created dynamically at boot time.

Refer to Debian Policy Manual section 9.3.2 (Writing the scripts) for
details.

Severity: serious, Certainty: possible
Check: files, Type: binary, udeb

which is why I am reporting this bug with severity serious (and there fore,
release critical).

Please fix your package. I have attached what I believe is a good fix the
problem, however, I haven't tried it, and I haven't tested if something more
for creating the necessary folder at runtime should be added. Please make
sure to test before applying the patch blindly.

Cheers,

Thomas Goirand (zigo)

Package: multiarch-support
Version: 2.13-36
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.5

Multiarch-support should have priority required:

Multiarch support is a release goal for wheezy and for this the package
multiarch-support exists.
Due to this nature many packages pre-depends on multi-arch, including packages
which have a priority of
important or required.

Of course, reading the policy, it would be indeed a RC-bug in the dependees but
I think it is not feasible
to lower the priorities of those as those are key packages.

* just random examples for dependees of priority required:
e2fslibs, libacl1, libmount1

Bug#692215: yatex: recommend non-free ptex-jtex and list non-existing binary packages texlive-bin gimageview jweblint

2012-11-03 Thread Osamu Aoki
Package: yatex
Version: 1.76+dfsg1-2
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.2.1 The main archive area

I admit this bug may be tagged as wheezy-ignore per wheezy release
policy
  http://release.debian.org/wheezy/rc_policy.txt

Also, the interpretation of policy have some room to be debated.
 http://bugs.debian.org/681419

I am filing this bug under serious so you can upload fix for wheezy and
unblock request can be accepted. If you do not agree and still wish to
release this package in this state, you can downgrade bug severity to
whatever you think is right to prevent this to be removed from the
release.

Anyway, this package defines very strange package dependencies and
requires serious re-evaluation of package dependencies. Currently:

Depends: emacs23 | emacs22 | emacs21 | xemacs21-mule | xemacs21-mule-canna-wnn,
install-info
Recommends: ptex-bin | ptex-jtex, texlive-bin
Suggests: jbibtex, mendexk, jweblint | weblint, iceweasel | www-browser,
gimageview

Please note we must use the binary package name or the virtual package
name for these dependencies. Problems I can spot are the following:

emacs22Now not for wheezy. why not use virtual package emacsen?
ptex-bin Now this is replaced by texlive-lang-cjk
ptex-jtex Non-free package -- Should be in suggest field to be safe
(non-free can not be in recommends but can be in suggests.)
 texlive-binSource package name. Use texlive-binaries
 jbibtexNon-existing. Use jbibtex-bin ?
 jweblint Non-existing. Use weblint-perl ?
gimageview Non-existing. I do not know. Drop ?

This is very broken situation. In addition to these, if we list only
texlive-binaries, it does not provide decent font supports. So
texlive-latex-recommended is something we should have for recommends.

To fix this mess, I propose attached patch to change above to:

Depends: emacs23 | emacsen, ${misc:Depends}, install-info
Recommends: texlive-latex-recommended, texlive-lang-cjk
Suggests: jbibtex-bin, mendexk, ptex-jtex, weblint-perl | weblint, iceweasel |
www-browser

Since gimageview has been removed from debian, I dropped it. If you
know some graphics viewer is suggested, you can list any pertinent
current package in suggests in addition to the above my proposal.

Anyway some update is needed to make this package in some reasonable
shape.

Regards,
Osamu

libpt2.10.7 2.10.7~dfsg-1

I made a few test calls and it looks fine, it was unusable before

Hello,
It is not possible currently for Debian to use nettle instead of
gcrypt for license reasons. Nettle links against gmp which is LGPLv3+,
but some of the gnutls-using applications in Debian have an LGPLv3

Package: transmageddon
Version: 0.21-1
Justification: renders package unusable
Severity: grave

Dear Maintainer,

when I start transmageddon, select a video, do some output settings
and hit transcode, the GUI gets greyed out, writes Transcoding

several input files (with different codecs) and output settings, same
behaviour.

I've successfully used transmageddon some time ago.

On the command line transmageddon reports the following error:

Bug#690152: bsaf: FTBFS: Test, org.jdesktop.application.TaskMonitorTest failed

2012-11-03 Thread Matteo Vescovi

Hi,

Here's what I found out so far about this bug.

Unsetting the DISPLAY environment variable works around the FTBFS error
by skipping the failing Junit tests. However, unsetting DISPLAY is not
the preferable/acceptable solution, as it simply skips the failing tests.

Check out the build.xml. Several tests are only conditionally executed,
depending on whether DISPLAY is set:

i.e.

test name=org.jdesktop.application.BadSessionStateTest
if=have.display/

where property have.display is conditionally set earlier on based on:

isset property=env.DISPLAY/

I turned to debugging the Junit tests and determined that the following
tests are failing:

 test name=org.jdesktop.application.BadSessionStateTest
  if=have.display/
 test name=org.jdesktop.application.CustomPropertySupportTest
  if=have.display/

Cheers,
- Matteo

That sounds like the query needs fixing. Mark is correct that reopening

I've prepared an NMU for couriergraph (versioned as 0.25-4.2) and
uploaded it to DELAYED/3. Please feel free to tell me if I
 should delay it longer.

Perfectly fine. Thank you very much, Salvatore.

Thank you for your feedback, then I will leave it this way and will be
uploaded to the archive in time.

Would you be willing to sponsor a regular upload (to unstable) in
which we include all fixes, plus a couple enhancements?

Are there fixes needed for the wheezy release? We are in freeze, thus
if possible only uploads following the rules in [1] are preferred. I
can try to help you sponsoring in such case yes.

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hi,

after updating some packages yesterday the system did not boot any more today.
The boot sequence always just stopped after resolvconf. The system would not
do anything else than respond to Ctrl+Alt+Del for reboot.
After some fiddeling around I realised that booting with the .legacy-
bootordering file in place would work but issue an error message in
/etc/network/if-up.d/upstart that the return statement in line 15 is not
allowed. Initially Version 0.7.3 was installed. Ubdating to 0.7.4 did not
change the situation. Even downgrading did not remove the defective files.
I now purged ifupdown and reinstalled 0.7.2 which works again.

2012-11-03 Thread Matteo Vescovi

Hi,

The stack trace led me to suspect the root cause of the issue lies in
the java.beans package.

I built the bsaf sources and tests with the default jdk
(/usr/lib/jvm/default-java - java-6-openjdk) and then ran the entire
testsuite with openjdk-7-jdk by changing the exported JAVA_HOME to
/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64

All tests passed with openjdk-7.

Cheers,
- Matteo

Bug#682050: fails to connect to server using non default port

2012-11-03 Thread Lars Noschinski
I agree with Josh's assessment. As I noted in 668239, different host
keys for different ports on the same server are clearly documented in
the OpenSSH man page. Hence, the assessment in the initial bugreport and
hostkey.patch are clearly wrong. I tested dropping hostkey.patch and
this makes paramiko work again with non-standard port settings.

Maybe the problem described in the original report is due to the
behaviour mentioned in http://lwn.net/Articles/222649/? [See also
https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=910]. This fallback
behaviour seems to be not present in paramiko and is not adressed by the
current patch.

So can we get a new version with the wrong patch reverted? It makes the
situation worse than before.

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package fails to upgrade from
'squeeze'.
It installed fine in 'squeeze', then the upgrade to 'wheezy' fails.

Bug#659489: Info

2012-11-03 Thread Martín Ferrari
Hi,

I was checking this bug today. I was able to reproduce the bug, but
then once I entered some other account info, it didn't appear again...
I will try again.

Apart from that, the problem you're having about auth errors is not a
bug, it's just that you don't have all the information for a
successful login, which is caused by the bug in the smtp window.

Maintainer, this bug has been open for 9 months without any activity.
Are you still interested in keeping this package?

Justification: renders package unusable

libcairo2:amd64 1.12.0-2 yield major display problems in iceweasel

of what I get (such text corruption also affects the tabs and the
menu). No such problems if I revert libcairo2 to 1.10.2-7.

Text in gvim is mostly invisible as if it's being printed in white on
white. If I load a file it may start off showing some or all of the text
normally, but when I move the cursor over it, or scroll, it disappears.

All syntax modes seem to be affected, and running with -U NONE -N gave
the same symptoms. vim-gnome is also affected.

I happened to notice that if I load files containing the GPL, the phrase
MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE (nearly) always
stands out ie printed normally while surrounding text is invisible.
While selecting that piece of text with the mouse to paste it here it
became invisible with a grey background, but all the surrounding text
that fitted within that screen suddenly appeared.

Package: libreoffice-gtk
Version: 1:3.5.2~rc2-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Fonts in menus and dropdown lists in LibreOffice applications are not
rendering, leaving the menus and lists unusable. This renders LibeOffice
unusable in all cases unless you happen to have memorized menu shortcuts.

Since the last update changing directory or pgup/pgdown in mc results in

also affects terminator, so it may be a libvte bug.

Package: libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0
Version: 2.26.0-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I am experiencing some serious font rendering issues.
I am not entirely sure whether this is the correct package, but since
libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 is a common
dependency for all of the applications where I experience the issue,
this is my best guess.

Here is a screenshot where the issue is visible:
https://wensveen.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/screenshot-from-2012-04-16-085408.png

Usually the problems begin when I open my GMAIL in iceweasel, but the
same happens with epiphany.
Text is illegible and while moving the mouse cursor around (on redraws
caused by css, probably) or
scrolling, other text becomes illegible too, but some text turns normal.
When this happens, other text in applications like gnome-terminal get
garbled as well, as is visible
in the screenshot. Sometimes, window titles are affected as well.

However, text in Qt applications (such as konqueror) are not affected.
Nor is text in java applications
(such as PS3 Media Server).

Unfortunately I can't pinpoint the moment when this started happening,
but I think this has been
happening for at least a month.

At first I thought it had something to do with the video driver
(xserver-xorg-video-radeon), but since
only GNOME applications are affected, I ruled this possibility out (or
at least highly improbable).

Please let me know if you need any further information.

Best regards,
Matthijs

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
Using nouveau with multiple monitors (although I don't think that it is related
to that)

Text very frequently gets corrupted, but images, video and 3d are not affected.
This mostly occurs when using iceweasel and gnome-terminal, but evolution is
also affected.

When this happens, selecting the text or scrolling so it leaves the visible
screen, appears to re-render it with the effect that the distortion changes,
making it readable from time to time. When taking a screenshot, the corruption
dissapears, but might re-appear after the text left the visible screen (a
window that comes over it or scrolling.
It doesn't occur with all text, usually only part of a sentence or a couple of
lines. Good text can get corrupted again after selecting affected text.

The problem doesn't occur when using the nvidia binary blob.
My graphics card is a GForce 9800 GT. It also doesn't occur on my laptop with a
GF8400M GS card.

Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
After ugrade Squeeze to Wheezy, libreoffice failed to display menu and
status bar, which made it almost unusable.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
Debian Bug report logs - #666565
xorg-server: major text display problems in several apps
From above bug report suggests version 1.10.2 of squeeze backports fixs the
problem. So I manually installed libcairo2_1.10.2-7~bpo60+1_amd64.deb file.
1.18.x in unstable wouldn't fix the problem. Downgrading it to 1.10.2-7
using aptitude or apt-get triggers removal of many packages also.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
   libreoffice works fine again.
   * What outcome did you expect instead?

*** End of the template - remove these lines ***

IA64 (Itanium) Wheezy, mach64, decommissioned xorg drivers

Boot method: netinst CD
Image version: a self build netinst CD which bases on the data of
Wheezy beta-1 and the patch proposals of bug#678883, 679545, 685186.
Date: Aug. 24, 2012

Machine: Dell PowerEdge 3250
Processor: 2x Itanium Madison 1.5GHz 6M
Memory: 4G
Graphics: build-in ATI Rage XL
01:01.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD]
nee ATI Rage XL [1002:4752] (rev 27)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:3404]

I could install a minimum Debian Wheezy with my self-build netinst CD.
I installed gnome-core but after the next reboot the screen flashed a
few times, was completely black a few seconds later, the hard disk
drive led flashed rythmic. Switching to another console wasn't possible.

There was a large count of xorg log files:
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old
/var/log/Xorg.1.log
/var/log/Xorg.1.log.old

/var/log/Xorg.200.log
/var/log/Xorg.200.log.old

what gives me an idea what happened while the hard disk drive led
flashed rythmic.
Graphics is a ATI Rage XL, the 'mach64' xorg driver would be the right
one - 'mach64' might be loaded by the 'ati' xorg driver.

The most interesting lines in Xorg.0.log.old are
[92.560] (II) LoadModule: ati
[92.560] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/ati_drv.so
[92.560] (II) Module ati: vendor=X.Org Foundation

[92.580]Module class: X.Org Video Driver

[92.581] (II) LoadModule: mach64

[92.581] (II) Unloading mach64
[92.581] (EE) Failed to load module mach64 (module does not exist, 0)

Then I found the Debian bug#671386 report. I thought my glasses lift
up when I read it :-).

This is the commit which removed the functions inb, inw, inl, outb,
outw, outl:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=aa0bfb0f133481c57762012e8e30c05ffa151423

The commit reads at the top
pciaccess handles this now.

A removed comment reads
- * We use special in/out routines here since Altix platforms require the
- * use of the sysfs legacy_io interface. The legacy_io file maps to the I/O
- * space of a given PCI domain; reads and writes are used to do port I/O.
- * The file descriptor for the file is stored in the upper bits of the
- * value passed in by the caller, and is created and populated by
- * xf86MapLegacyIO.
- *
- * If the legacy_io interface doesn't exist, we fall back to the glibc in/out
- * routines, which are prefixed by an underscore (e.g. _outb).

Further investigations are needed...

Kind regards
Stephan Schreiber

Justification: In (team) package maintainer and upstream's opinion, package
unsuitable for release -- will soon be mostly unusable

New upstream release 0.07 is available.

Importantly, IPPay changed the gateway's server name and path, and will soon
turn off the old gateway, so versions before 0.07 will stop working at that
time.

Regarding squeeze, a 0.07 package should be uploaded to squeeze-updates.
Alternatively, the relevant changes (parts of

could be backported to 0.06.

Regarding wheezy, we should ask for a freeze exception for 0.07.
Alternatively, like above, we could backport just the relevant chagnes
and uplaod to testing-proposed-updates.

Bug#681451: gvfs-bin: gvfs-open (via xdg-open) opens pdfs in wrong application

2012-11-03 Thread Norbert Preining
Hi

Norbert: how about trying to bisect this problem by copying into
a fresh user account parts of your dotfiles until you manage to
 reproduce the problem?

Unfortunately my laptop died on my a while ago and I am still fighting
with a new (well, not really, old brick style lenovo), but after
new installation everything is fine here ...

Best wishes

Bug#687693: ca-certificates: Cacert License is missing

(Setting to serious, due to policy violation)

After reading the -legal thread, comments above, the CAcert mailing list
thread, the Fedora explanation, and carefully reading the licensing
myself, the cautious side of me says the right thing to do is remove the
CAcert certificates from the package. This change will be committed to
 the collab-maint git repo shortly.

I appreciate the bug report, mejiko, and for others taking the time to
consider this issue. I will consider a ca-certificates-cacert ITP for
 inclusion in non-free.

Which debian-legal thread were you reading? Because the two comments I see
cc:ed to this bug report from debian-legal, from Francesco Poli and Florian
Weimer, both point out that *certificates are not copyrightable*. An SSL
certificate is a unique representation of a mathematical fact; since it
contains no creative element, copyright law does not provide for any
monopoly rights prohibiting distribution.

The CAcert license is therefore something we should entirely ignore, because
it has no legal force. Your proposal to remove it from the package without
specific legal guidance to the contrary is a gross overreaction.

It's the change to the source package, not the binary package, that's
important for an NMU, so you have to debdiff the *.dsc files. The
devscripts package has an nmudiff script that automates much of this
procedure.

(I'm listed as a comaintainer for openldap but haven't had any time to
work on the package for quite some time, unfortunately. I should really
probably remove myself.)

 Hi,

a test with piuparts revealed that your package misses the copyright
file after an upgrade from squeeze to sid, which is a violation of
 Policy 12.5:
 http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-docs.html#s-copyrightfile

After the upgrade /usr/share/doc/$PACKAGE/ is just an empty directory.

From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):
