An optimal solution would consist in only one of the packages installing that file, and renaming or removing the file in the other package. Depending on the circumstances you might also consider Replace relations or file diversions. If the conflicting situation cannot be resolved then, as a last resort, the two packages have to declare a mutual Conflict. Please take into account that Replaces, Conflicts and diversions should only be used when packages provide different implementations for the same functionality. Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages (according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be slightly out of sync): /usr/include/proc/alloc.h /usr/include/proc/devname.h /usr/include/proc/escape.h /usr/include/proc/procps.h /usr/include/proc/pwcache.h /usr/include/proc/readproc.h /usr/include/proc/sig.h /usr/include/proc/slab.h /usr/include/proc/sysinfo.h /usr/include/proc/version.h /usr/include/proc/wchan.h /usr/include/proc/whattime.h /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libprocps.a /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libprocps.la /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libprocps.so /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/libprocps.pc This bug has been filed against both packages. If you, the maintainers of the two packages in question, have agreed on which of the packages will resolve the problem please reassign the bug to that package. You may then also register in the BTS that the other package is affected by the bug. -Ralf. Bug#695361: man-db: Please revert workaround for less 456
On Sun, May 05, 2013 at 10:14:36PM -0700, Geoffrey Thomas wrote: In #695459 you added a workaround for the new backslash-escaping behavior in less 456-1. Upstream less 457 has since reverted this behavior unless opted in, so I think the sanest thing to do is to remove this workaround entirely from man-db, declare a Breaks on just version 456, and put less = 457 into testing. Attached is a debdiff for a local test build to do this -- see also my comment in the less bug, #695361, reproduced below. Please incorporate and upload this change, and also revert the upstream commit of the workaround; then less 457 or above can be safely uploaded to close #695361. I note that the maintainers of both man-db and less are on the LowThresholdNmu list, so since this is currently blocking sane dist-upgrades to testing (I'm caring because I tried to upgrade my laptop and apt is threatening to remove less), I'm happy to NMU either or both these packages, if that's easier for you. I'll wait for comments until tomorrow evening my time, about 24h, before doing so. Thanks for the patch. I'd like to review and upload this myself, but it's a public holiday today so I don't know whether I'll quite get to it before your deadline. I will definitely get to it by tomorrow, if you can wait until then. -- Colin Watson [cjwat...@debian.org] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. reassign 706936 mediathekview severity 706936 grave merge 706925 706936 thanks Hi, we all agree that libjgoodies-forms-java 1.6 is the bad guy here, but unfortunately the maintainer of this library cannot really solve the issue. ;-) I have prepared a patch and i hope to find a sponsor soon. Indeed the problem is the renamed FormFactory class which is now called FormSpecs, hence all occurrences of this class have to be renamed in MediathekView. Bug#706987: general: Gnome freezes after some minutes of starting session
Package: general Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Dear Maintainer, Gnome desktop freezes after some minutes of starting the session. The solution is to change to another tty and restart the gdm3 server. I've noticed that it only happens at the begining of the session but once the gdm3 is restarted it doesn't reproduce. Also, it occurs in the stable version (wheezy) and the testing one. I also checked it occur with the default debian drivers and the nvidia drivers. I'd like to review and upload this myself, but it's a public holiday today so I don't know whether I'll quite get to it before your deadline. I will definitely get to it by tomorrow, if you can wait until then. I'm perfectly happy to wait -- it'll take a bit to get to testing anyway. Speaking of migrations, I'm thinking through how to avoid the same problem (apt threatening to remove less) in saucy. Since man-db is Ubuntu-patched, it won't get automatically imported, so I guess the answer is just to hold off on merging (slash syncing, the patch is just M-A: foreign) until after less gets synced into Ubuntu. The other option would be to remove the Breaks entirely and decide it's not that important. -- Geoffrey Thomas http://ldpreload.com geo...@ldpreload.com -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#695361: hit after wheezy release
I just got hit with this after doing an upgrade after the wheezy release. I didn't initially notice, but less was removed during the upgrade, and I was not able to reinstall without pulling from unstable. I imagine a lot of people are going to start hitting this bug now that the release has happened, so I strongly suggest fast-tracking this through unstable. Bug#707040: initramfs-tools: missing busybox package creates unbootable initramfs missing /bin/sh
Package: initramfs-tools Version: 0.109.1 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 3.5 Dear Maintainer, I ran dist-upgrade from squeeze to wheezy. During the upgrade, I was warned that I was missing firmware-realtek, which was now in non-free. I installed that package, and updated the 3.2 initrd image. Upon reboot, the 3.2 kernel panic'd, unable to find /init. I was able to reboot into the 2.6.32 kernel. I could tell that the usb-storage and other filesystem-related modules were not being loaded, so I assumed they were not present in the initramfs. I added several of them to /etc/initramfs-tools/modules and rebuilt *both* initrd images. Rebuilding the one for 2.6.32 should have been a no-op. And backup_initramfs=no by default on my system. Now I was unable to boot *either* initrd image. I was able to pull an old initrd image from another machine to get it to boot. Then I extracted both this working image and the one I just created to see what was different. I noticed that the new one did not have a /bin/sh file (or symlink). Both had /init though. I simply installed busybox with apt-get. There were no additional packages required during that install. I rebuilt the initrd images with my /etc/initramfs-tools/modules overrides removed. Now both /bin/sh and /bin/busybox were created. Both kernel versions now boot successfully. Note: I'm not sure why the 3.2 initrd images do not appear in the list below. reportbug didn't populate them. The various other 2.6 initrd images were from attempts at changing the MODULES line in initramfs.conf. -- Package-specific info: -- initramfs sizes -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9.4M May 7 01:22 /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-5-amd64 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 8.8M May 6 04:23 /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-5-amd64.broken -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2.4M May 6 04:53 /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-5-amd64.dep -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9.3M May 6 04:52 /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-5-amd64.good -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3.1M May 6 05:00 /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-5-amd64.list -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 8.8M May 6 04:53 /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-5-amd64.most -- /proc/cmdline BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-4-amd64 root=UUID=5f4670a4-81c8-4455-890f-f6f0e4b83445 ro forcefsck -- /proc/filesystems ext3 ext4 -- lsmod Module Size Used by ext4 350602 1 crc16 12343 1 ext4 jbd2 62065 1 ext4 raid45648356 1 async_raid6_recov 12574 1 raid456 async_memcpy 12387 2 async_raid6_recov,raid456 async_pq 12605 2 async_raid6_recov,raid456 raid6_pq 82624 2 async_pq,async_raid6_recov async_xor 12422 3 async_pq,async_raid6_recov,raid456 xor12605 1 async_xor async_tx 12604 5 async_xor,async_pq,async_memcpy,async_raid6_recov,raid456 md_mod 87742 2 raid456 snd_hda_codec_realtek 188858 1 snd_hda_intel 26259 0 snd_hda_codec 78031 2 snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_intel snd_hwdep 13186 1 snd_hda_codec snd_pcm68083 2 snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel snd_page_alloc 13003 2 snd_pcm,snd_hda_intel i915 378417 1 snd_timer 22917 1 snd_pcm coretemp 12898 0 parport_pc 22364 0 acpi_cpufreq 12935 1 mperf 12453 1 acpi_cpufreq crc32c_intel 12747 0 ghash_clmulni_intel13173 0 video 17683 1 i915 cryptd 14517 1 ghash_clmulni_intel snd52889 6 snd_timer,snd_pcm,snd_hwdep,snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel iTCO_wdt 17081 0 parport31858 1 parport_pc drm_kms_helper 31370 1 i915 processor 28157 1 acpi_cpufreq iTCO_vendor_support12704 1 iTCO_wdt i2c_i801 16870 0 drm 183952 2 drm_kms_helper,i915 button 12937 1 i915 i2c_algo_bit 12841 1 i915 i2c_core 23876 5 i2c_algo_bit,drm,i2c_i801,drm_kms_helper,i915 soundcore 13065 1 snd pcspkr 12579 0 evdev 17562 0 ext3 161867 1 mbcache13114 2 ext3,ext4 jbd56902 1 ext3 ses13106 0 enclosure 13306 1 ses sg 25874 0 sd_mod 36136 6 crc_t10dif 12348 1 sd_mod usb_storage43870 1 ata_generic12479 0 ata_piix 29535 4 r8169 46972 0 mii12675 1 r8169 e1000e124918 0 thermal17383 0 ehci_hcd 40215 0 thermal_sys18040 3 thermal,processor,video libata140630 2 ata_piix,ata_generic scsi_mod 162269 5 libata,usb_storage,sd_mod,sg,ses usbcore 128741 3 ehci_hcd,usb_storage

Bug#707047: Lockup and possible hardware damage on VIA EPIA-PD motherboard
Package: src:linux Version: 3.2.41-2 Severity: critical Tags: moreinfo My home server which has an old VIA EPIA-PD motherboard and C3 'Nehemiah' CPU has been unstable since I rebooted into this kernel version. It will hard lock (no kernel log messages, no response to magic SysRq) during heavy disk activity - initially a backup, but then fsck also triggered it. My suspicion is that this may be related to the 'longhaul' cpufreq driver which is now autoloaded and previously wasn't. I will try running without it tomorrow. For now, I've switched back to the squeeze kernel (2.6.32-48squeeze1) and have completed the fsck and incremental backup without errors. Following the first hard lockup, the BIOS failed to initialise RAM (indicated by repeated beeps and no video output at power-on). I have replaced the DIMM with a spare. (I then tested swapping back to the original DIMM, and again it failed in the same way.) The hard lockups continued with the replacement DIMM until I rebooted to the squeeze kernel. So I have good reason to suspect that there is a software cause for both the lockup and the hardware damage. Marking this moreinfo because I need to check whether longhaul is the culprit.
