Bug#871506: libhdf5-java package does not contain jar
Package: libhdf5-java Version: 1.10.0-patch1+docs-3 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Hi, I have just discovered that the libhdf5-java package fails to ship the jarhdf5.jar file. This makes the HDF5 java bindings unusable (this came up whilst trying to compile the newly released hdfview). The problem seems to be the use of $(upstreamversion) to rename the jar file in the install rule and also that jh_installlibs is not being called. I've hacked around it for now by changing the dh_install_java rule in debian/rules to contain: dh_install_java: build_serial mv debian/build-serial/java/src/jarhdf5-*.jar debian/build-serial/java/src/jarhdf5.jar jh_installlibs which ensures that the jar is shipped - this may not be the solution which you want to use. This problem affects stable as well as unstable (as it's the same version). Thanks, Mark

The alternative would be to Build-Depend on openssl 1.0 for now (which looks like it will be allowable for jessie) as gridengine doesn't seem to expose any SSL implementation details to/from other libraries. I'm happy to prepare/upload a version with either fix in, depending on preference. Thanks, Mark -- Mark Hymers "'I regret nothing?' That's not a song, that's an idiots charter." Bug#517130: linux-modules-extra-2.6: Potential GPL violations
Package: linux-modules-extra-2.6 Version: 2.6.26-6 Severity: serious Dear all, Shortly before the lenny release, it was noted that the binary packages produced by linux-modules-extra-2.6 contain absolutely no relation to the source with which they were built. It is therefore possible, and indeed likely, that the archive may end up containing binaries for which the source has expired. This was dealt with (quietly) for lenny by the ftpteam auditing the build logs and binaries to check that the sources were all present, and inserting the source entries into the special lenny-r0 suite to ensure that they will be retained even if their source packages are revised in a stable point release. The ftpteam considers this a RC bug for squeeze and an improved manner of handling the source dependencies for these modules must be found. At FOSDEM, preliminary discussions were held regarding adding a method by which binary packages could declare that they were built using a particular version of another source or binary package so that the archive can track this and ensure that the relevant source is kept around. This will of course require some dpkg-dev and dak changes and consensus that the idea is a sane one before it can be implemented. A proposal will be sent to debian-devel@ soon. Whichever solution is arrived at needs to deal with the problem at all points in the release cycle, not just at stable or point releases. Bug#411925: Silently fails to build extension modules
Package: python-matplotlib Version: 0.87.7-0.1 Severity: grave Tags: patch As of 0.87.7-0.1, matplotlib on ppc, mipsel, mips, arm, sparc, s390, alpha built against the numpy rc and therefore failed to build the numpy extensions. 20:53 < mhy> hi, there's a problem with python-matplotlib. Those architectures (most: ppc, mipsel, mips, arm, sparc, s390, alpha) which tried to build against python-numpy 1.0rc* failed to build the numpy extensions and is therefore pretty useless; a binNMU will fix it (tested rebuilding on PPC here); do I need to file a bug / mail debian-release to get one done? 20:53 < waldi> mhy: the build failed silent? 20:53 < mhy> waldi: yes (not my package...) 20:54 < mhy> waldi: it's valid for upstream matplotlib to only build the numeric or numarray extensions; I'd have thought the debian packaging should check that all three have been built though 20:55 < mhy> especially as numpy is the default, and hence it breaks by default 20:58 < vorlon> mhy: yes, that should get a sourceful bugfix for the problem of the silent failure 20:59 < mhy> vorlon: right, I'll file a bug and try and work up a patch (a manifest check or something) Patch is attached which checks for failure of any of the three modules to build. I intend to ask someone to NMU this in a couple of days if this isn't fixed by then as I really need a fixed matplotlib in etch. Depending on whether python-numpy 1:1.0.1-1 is going to migrate from unstable->testing before the release, this may not need to be fixed (python-numpy now contains the former python-numpy-ext contents and python-numpy-ext is an empty transitional package). Bug#391844: more info
Hi, I've taken a look at this and came up with a couple of issues. First of all, although we build modules for python2.3 and python2.4, they both link (and use) libpython2.4 indirectly via libhk_classes. The correct thing to do seems to be only to build for our main version of python (currently 2.4), otherwise we'll have to build more than one version of libhk_classes. The linking issue is because we weren't pulling in the -dev packages mentioned in dependency_libs in the .la file. The two options were to either remove the .la file or alternatively have libhk-classes-dev depend on the relevant libraries. I've taken the latter approach in this NMU patch. Can someone review this and check that my logic is sound. Thanks, Mark -- Mark Hymers "Irish police are being handicapped in a search for a stolen van, because they cannot issue a description. Bug#393074: python-matplotlib conflicts with python-dateutil
tags 393074 +patch thanks On Sat, 14, Oct, 2006 at 10:19:21PM +0200, Daniele Tricoli spoke thus.. > python-matplotlib contains a non complete version of python-dateutil. > Can't it depend on that package instead? The problem is that matplotlib builds its own copy of dateutil if it's not present at build-time. This doesn't result in dpkg throwing an error because the two copies of dateutil get installed into different places because one uses python-support and one python-central... The simplest way to avoid this is for matplotlib to Build-Depend on python-dateutil and therefore not build its own copy. The maintainer might also want to modify debian/rules to ensure the build fails if it tries to ship the dateutil files. NMU patch attached. Bug#392633: several possible solutions to this
Having looked at this, it's because the wrapper config files are configured using the @CC@ @CXX@ variables etc and are then placed in a .all deb. Obviously, this works if they are set to gcc, g++ etc but they generally aren't. There are three possible solutions to this: 1) Add something like CC=gcc CXX=g++ FC=gfortran CPP=cpp to the configure line in debian/rules; this will completely break cross-compiling 2) Manually hack the compiler= lines in all of the /usr/share/openmpi/*wrapper*.txt to be the generic gcc,g++ options using sed or something when we build the arch-indep deb 3) Move the *wrapper*.txt files to the architecture dependent .deb. I only consider this as the wrapper files also have library information in them and this could concievably change between architectures (especially for things like kfreebsd / hurd etc). I'm happy to provide a diff for any of the above three options but would like some guidance as to which the correct one is. Cheers, Mark -- Mark Hymers "Don't you hate those Claims Direct adverts? Bug#337250: bacula FTBFS
OK. After having another look; we need another library (libkrb5support) as well now. Updated patch attached which Works For Me (TM) :-). Built both normally and in a pbuilder chroot. Two other things bother me though (these are comments to Jose, not really meant to be addressed to you Steinar!): 1) Why the 2>&1 >/dev/null on the make line (line 124) in debian/rules; it just makes things more difficult to debug and the buildd logs less useful in my opinion. 2) I do wonder though about shipping static binaries. I realise this is an unusual situation due to the multiple variants but what do the security team and release managers think about this; a security update for any of these libraries would need a bacula update as well as far as I can tell. This issue may have been discussed already; if so, apologies for bringing it up again. Anyways, hope the patch helps. tag 329231 + upstream thanks I've reproduced this bug in kst SVN when it's compiled against KDE 3.4 and also using kst-1.0.0 when you force it to run against KDE 3.4 (it was compiled against 3.3). I've contacted upstream about this and am copying the email in below. Cheers, Mark Hi, I maintain the kst packages for Debian and have run into a bit of a problem. Up until recently everything worked but something in the KDE-3.4 transition caused previously working binaries of kst-1.1.0 to stop working. I recompiled 1.1.0 in Debian unstable (against KDE 3.4) and it exhibited the same issue as does SVN HEAD. Interestingly, kst-1.0.0 run in a test chroot shows the same symptoms after the kde libraries are upgraded from 3.3 to 3.4. The problem is that plots no longer display at all. Instead, a steady stream of X Errors is provided relating to various operations including X_PolyFillRectangle and various other problems. I've reproduced this myself just this evening and am trying to find out exactly what the problem and (more importantly) the solution is. Bug#328971: FTBFS in unstable pbuilder (and on buildds)
Package: vtk Version: 4.4.2-7 Severity: serious Justification: FTBFS Tags: patch vtk-4.4.2-7 fails to build from source in an unstable pbuilder instance and on most buildds (http://buildd.debian.org/build.php?&pkg=vtk) due to a bad Build-Dep. Hi, I'd be quite happy to do an upload for ifrit but according to the g++ transition page, libvtk4 (a build-dependency) hasn't been uploaded yet. Bug#322750: patch for 64 bit problem

Bug#324772: libfam0 can break other packages due to reuse of binary package name in conjunction with Provides
Package: fam Severity: critical Justification: can break other packages (e.g. /usr/lib/libkdeprint.so.4 from kdelibs4c2) Hi, There seems to be an upgrade path bug in libfam at the moment linked to the C++ transition. A summary is this: Old version: libfam0 (pre c102 transition) -> Newer version: libfam0c102 which Provides: libfam0 -> Newest version (gcc4 transition) libfam0 which Conflicts: libfam0c102 Unfortunately, this means that if you start with a sarge chroot, install the sarge version of kdelibs, then do an apt-get install -t sid kdelibs, apt doesn't need to upgrade libfam as there seems to be no shlibs requirements and libfam0c102 Provides libfam0. Hence, you end up with (for example) libkdeprint linked directly against libstdc++6 and indirectly (through fam) against libstdc++5. I'm not sure if the right solution here is for the package to be renamed libfam0c2 (probably if it had been done this way originally) or if it makes more sense for the maintainer to add an shlibs file to make sure that packages can be rebuilt and know that they need an up-to-date version of libfam when installed. Hope this bug report and log is useful. Please let me know if there's anything wrong with it or you need moreinfo.
