Bug#373699: debian-installer: installation will not complete

2006-06-14 Thread Nizamov Shawkat
Package: debian-installer
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I tried to install Etch using last cd from 12.06.2006
Note thah I do not have access to online mirror on that PC and use expert mode
Installation silently fails after step Choose and install software - it will
just go to the next step in menu (AFAIR it is check cd-rom integrity)
After manually trying following steps in installation menu Abort installation
comes at last. After rebooting I have bootable system but is is completely
weird-
for example, users that I have created have gone (no entry's in /etc/passwd),
/etc/shadow is non-existent so only root with empty password is allowed and so
on

I tried this several times (at first I thought that was because of failing
installation of console-cyrillic because of not available mirror) and even
with all default values (excluding disk partiotioning) instalation just
silently
fails at the end, leaving installed system weird

Bug#362800: debian-installer: cd-rom installer requires online repository

2006-04-15 Thread Nizamov Shawkat
Package: debian-installer
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Today I downloaded the fresh Etch iso image (CD-1, ~650Mb).
When I tried to install, installer correctly recognized media as Etch 'testing'
medium
Then installer required to define the online repository to install from
and subsequently, at step of base system install , refused to install saying
something like dont now how to install - no cd found and mirror is not
reachable
( This PC has NIC but no network )
So I rendered this bug as critical as it does not allow to correctly
install from appropriate medium
