I'm thinking that this should probably be resolved (as with #804299) by removing the drivedb update feature from the Debian package and performing drivedb updates via update Debian packages. I'm not yet sure whether it's worth splitting the drivedb out of the main smartmontools package; I need to think whether that would make backporting easier. I'm interested in any others opinions on the issue (I guess follow-ups to #804299 would be most appropriate).

Thedrivedb.h file should be shipped in the deb in /usr not /var. At package install/update time the copy in /var should be updated using the copy in /usr if it is newer than the copy in /usr. The update tool should only write to the copy in /var but only if the downloaded version is newer than the copy in /var. -- bye, pabs https://wiki.debian.org/PaulWise signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part
