Bug#775267: ERROR: dictionaries-common is broken - called emacs-package-remove as a new-style add-on, but has no compat file.

2015-01-13 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: dictionaries-common
Version: 1.23.17
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts

Hi,

noticed this during a piuparts test (wheezy2jessie-rcmd, gnumed-client):

Preparing to replace dictionaries-common 1.12.11 (using
.../dictionaries-common_1.23.17_all.deb) ...
  ERROR: dictionaries-common is broken - called emacs-package-remove as a
new-style add-on, but has no compat file.
  Leaving 'diversion of /usr/share/dict/words to
/usr/share/dict/words.pre-dictionaries-common by dictionaries-common'
  Unpacking replacement dictionaries-common ...

It does not fail (in d-c) but this sounds scary.

Hi, Andreas,

Do not worry, this is emacsen-common testing things in the wrong place and
issuing a far too scary message. See

[emacsen-common: emacs-package-install --preinst displays incorrect error
message]
https://bugs.debian.org/736062

Old emacs-package-install tests for a compat file during its invocation
from dictionaries-common preinst, when the updated add-on is not yet
unpacked. And at that time fixed emacsen-common (2.0.8) seems not yet
installed, so old script is used. Normal dependencies will only help
sorting configure stage.

Note that you might see this message in other emacsen add-ons.

Reassigning to emacsen-common (Hi, Rob) and forcemerging with closed #736062.

Regards,
