Re: Czech translation of po-debconf templates completed

2005-08-22 Thread Christian Perrier
It would be cool, for sure, but it still has to be done. And as Christian
noted, the bottleneck is mostly on the developper side here. I mean that
there is more translator waiting for their translations to get integrated
than developpers waiting for a given translator to update his work.

And, unfortunately, there's not so much things we can do. Skilled and
motivated maintainers like Marc anyway already handle interaction with
translators very well.

This is certainly something that changed A LOT during last years and
for with I have to thank the vast majority of Debian package
maintainers.

The main problem (not only for translations, BTW) are mostly
half-maintained packages

See french/po/l10n.fr.po[1] and english/po/l10n.pot on the webwml CVS,

 duplicating many entries.

Maybe filing a bug against www.debian.org could be an idea?

And while we're at it:

zh_CN 1971 (19%)

and

zh_TW 1905 (18%)
Chinese, as spoken in Taiwan

is kind of strange as well.

Cheers,

Nope, nothing automatic. There's a tool in podebconf to allow developper to
do this email when they want to, but nothing like an automatic reminder to
translators when a package containing outofdate translation from them is
uploaded

Of course, what's automatic is that outofdate translations will get
discarded from what's shown to users. Until they get updated, users will see
the english message instead.

So, now I have to hurry up and post TAF mails to the -l10n-french
mailing list, to be sure that we reach 100% and we remain at the top
of the list.

BTW, we reached 100% during1 daya few months ago (assuming of
course that all bugs we have reported are fixed, which will never
happen). The current mark for French is 99,941%...:-)

(and the real mark is 96,679% which is about our highest mark, IIRC)

I can give you a new goal, Czech team: translate all Debian native
packages PO files.

Sure, have a look at podebconf-report-po (from po-debconf package).

If, according to [2], it doesn't seem to you we are attacking 100%,
you are right and this is the reason why I'm CCing debian-devel.
If your package doesn't include Czech translation of po-debconf
templates (or any other translation for that matter) yet, please have
a look to the BTS, translation might be waiting there.

(Of course I don't want you to immediately push out new version of the
package with just a single po-debconf translation added, but when the
translation sits in BTS for more than half year, it doesn't encourage
translators much.)
