It is part of the binary-only nvidia driver. I'm reassigning this bug to the correct package. I was able to get one of my systems working again. libc was in a halfway updated state. I guess when it segfaulted during the upgrade it left it in a bad state. I could see that it was segfaulting in a post install script. I was able to run that post install script manually and then configure all to get libc fully installed. Once I did that and rebooted, the system worked again. I will add the details when I get a chance. That system was a 32bit AMD system. The other system is a 64bit AMD system. It seems to be broken in a slightly different way when it segfaulted during the libc upgrade. It seems like it is segfaulting in a pre install script when I try to do a configure all to try to fix it. Trying to run the pre install script manually requires a couple of input arguments that I haven't had a chance to look into to see what to try. I will give more details when I get a chance. Bug#722217: dead in the water
I am trying to recover my system somehow but a lot of applications are segfaulting making it very dificult. emacs, and sensord are segfaulting in libnvidia-tls. I tried to downgrade libc6 but that also required downgrading nvidia so I tried that too. The problem is that trying to downgrade libc6 segfaults. Help. Is there anything I can do besides reinstall the whole system. Here is my attempt at trying to downgrade libc6 and nvidia through an ssh session into the dead machine. # apt-get install libxvmcnvidia1=304.88-6 nvidia-alternative=304.88-6 nvidia-detect=304.88-6 nvidia-glx=304.88-6 nvidia-kernel-dkms=304.88-6 nvidia-kernel-source=304.88-6 nvidia-vdpau-driver=304.88-6 nvidia-settings=304.88-2 xserver-xorg-video-nvidia=304.88-6 libgl1-nvidia-glx=304.88-6 libc6=2.17-92 libc6-dbg=2.17-92 libc6-dev=2.17-92 libc6-i686=2.17-92 libc-dev-bin=2.17-92 nvidia-driver=304.88-6 Reading package lists...
