fore runner
Hello! Does anyone know the ForeRunner ES-3810 switch? I have a null modem cable(using only 3 cables) that I can use to connect to the console of a 3com switch but fore-runners. (using minicom) Is there something that i can play with? Things that I checked are: - 9600 8N1 - powered down and up and no message appears - does nothing. Sorry for the off topic, but couldnt find any help elsewere. Could you make them recognize more that 4 MAC per port ? Is there an easy(nice and gui) SNMP client (in debian)? -- Carlos Barros.

Debian firewall/router distro?
I'm a newbie administrator at a small publishing company. I have been consistently trying to get my boss to migrate a yellowdog linux server to debian-ppc. After a recent 3 hour outage (ouch) my boss couldn't do anything to get the machine up (I'm a part time worker, not on call). Anyway, he wanted to buy a Cobalt but I recommended we install a smoothwall machine instead. I'm confident I can get the smoothwall machine up and running but what I really want is a debian based distro for easy upgrades and maintenance. Whatever I install I have to be able to convince him that he can semi-administer it if I'm not there. Is there a debian-firewall/router distro similar in function to smoothwall? All the server needs to do is act as a firewall/router for the internal lan and the webserver. It won't be offering any other services. TIA, Jesse

Once upon a time (actually it was more like Tue, 20 Nov 2001 09:43:21 +0100), Roger Abrahamsson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I have succeeded in locking myself out of mysql. I need to set the > > root password back Talking about being locked out of mysql, the other day I found my machine doing very strange things at things at 6:30am very morning. It started by my root password being changed (from nothing), after which I just reinstalled. Next the grant tables got screwed up by something and I was locked out of very db on the server. I backed up the important db's and reinstalled, every thing seemed to work. The next day the exact same thing happened, at the same time. The mysql.log files listed php-nuke trying to do stuff even when it wasn't being used or hadn't been in many days. I blew away php-nuke, which I wasn't using anyhow and everything seems to be back to norm. Anyone know why this might happen? Anyone had this problem? Portslave is used on much Cyclades hardware including in the dedicated hardware boxes they sell. Yes, Sangoma and Cyclades are among the good companies that release the source to all their drivers making it easier for us. I installed an Emerging Technologies card for one of my clients (binary-only kernel module) and have really regretted it. With a PC router you could easily put a web server to show stats on the router (instead of monitoring it by SNMP and doing the stats elsewhere). With a PC you can easily expand it etc. With a PC a buffer overflow doesn't necessarily mean the entire machine is dead (unlike Cisco products).
