Konqueror does not show jpeg files

2001-02-08 Thread Pablo de Vicente
Ivan,

I am using kde2.1.Postbeta2 for Potato and konqueror does not show jpeg
images. I have sent a bug to KDE and I have got this answer:

>> Konqueror does not display jpeg images. It shows a white

My question is then the same. Is kde/qt compiled with jpeg support enabled?,
Does anybody else have the same problem?

regards,

Pablo.

Might need to adjust libqt2.2 2.2.4

2001-02-08 Thread Gordon Sadler
Odd experiment:
Install libqt2.2 2.2.4 from deb, now QTDIR is /usr/share/qt...
All's well, now try running an application that was compiled against
libqt2.2 while QTDIR was /usr/lib/qt2 ...

I haven't tried too many yet, but.. kde has some odd problems.
Lots of messages scroll on the console where it wants to fine
/usr/lib/qt2/qlistview.h and konqueror looks rather odd. Some of the
menu buttons across the top are duplicated, the fonts are horrible and
cannot be changed with configure->konqueror->appearance.

Maybe libqt2.2 2.2.4 should conflict with all the kapps compiled with
libqt2.2 << 2.2.4?

Just a thought/observance from here.

[Q:] KDE 2.1 on testing

2001-02-08 Thread Rainer Dorsch
Hello,

can anybody comment on what will be the best way to install KDE 2.1 (when it
is released) on a testing (=woody) system. Is it likely that the .debs from
sid migrate within a relatively short time to woody?

Thanks.

Rainer.

Your best bet is probably to use Ivan's (KDE debian maintainer) debs
that are built for stable. Try http://kde.tdyc.com for apt.sources
lines and related info. Or check the archives here on this list.

Bash Prompts???

2001-02-08 Thread Robert Tilley
I've visited some bash prompt sites that give examples of these neato and
wiz-bang prompts that my terminal is supposed to be capable of displaying.

Problem: In none of the shells I've tried (konsole, xterm, etc.) these
artful additions to be .bashrc files have produced nothing. The only result
is continued display of a boring and pathetic (to me) command-line.

While I'm not trying to have my terminal play the Stars & Stripes whenever I
hit ENTER, some minor display of information would be useful. Things such
as the time, current directory, etc. would be good to have on my screen.

One such site is http://www.interlog.com/~giles/bashprompt/prompts/. Is
there a KDE console/terminal program which will display these?

   Hello Robert,

I will make no warranty of this, but ... I use the Konsole virtual
terminal and really enjoy it's power. I love that I can open one term,
and have 100 more in the same window - how cool can it get! What I did to
get the things to read my settings was: konsole %i %m -caption "%c" --ls
Notice the '--ls' on the end. How I did it, was to right click on my konsole
icon on the taskbar and then clicked on the Execute tab. See if that makes
it mo-better for you. BTW, Konsole also supports the 'transparent konsole'
option, so it will display your desktop thru the vt :) It's really the
little things

My user prompt:
{bogus} U=jaye
Dir=~ pts/2$

My root prompt:
YOU ARE ROOT!! on bogus

this is very strange. qlistview.h is (first off) in the -dev package...and
(secondly) wasn't in /usr/lib/qt2/ .

Here's the thing...all of the files that were in libqt2.2 before are in
the same location ( minus also being in /usr/lib/qt2/lib) So the only problems
that the difference in packaging would cause is if the application hardcoded
it's link to /usr/lib/qt2/lib/libqt.so.2 which is against policy.

I had this problem a while ago - I couldn't (for instance) see the cartoon
on www.dilbert.com. The problem has recently re-occurred (this is with sid).
Odd thing is that sid currently seems to have a mix of version numbers for
KDE software - some say "2.1-beta2-0128" while other say "2.1-beta2-1" or
"2.1-beta2-2". But on my system konqueror is definitely linked against
libjpeg, so it does look like support has been compiled in.

Yes...QT is built with JPEG support...it's been built the same way for
quite some time.

I can't even test these reports (and yes, that is plural) as I'm not running
the same version anymore. (testing -final which does work at least on my
system)

Sorry about that, I might have been jumping to false conclusions. But
note I didn't say it was a 'bug' -) I wasn't positive what all I had
running. Turns out I had qt2.2.4 with mismatched kdelibs kdebase.
kdelibs were local builds from very recent, while kdebase was from
official Debian sid.

Most likely it was something I messed with in the build. I reverted
back to 'official' debs from sid, all working just great with qt2.2.4.

My mistake.
