Re: XFT + qtr2.3 + Kde2.1 = WOW!!
Ok I use qt2.3 + kde2.1 and it rocks guys! thanks ivan ! the look is awesome with the true type fonts :) I'm building qt for unstable again with the qpainter.cpp file from qt-copy which I guess was the culprit for a nasty bug where the qt based app crashes if QT_XFT is not set. KDE in general shouldn't see this if but if you don't use the kde2 script (or haven't restarted KDE) apps will probably crash. anyways...once I get it built I'll upload it. Ivan -- Ivan E. ok...2.1 out the door
Hi all...I meant to send this note out earlier but work kept getting in the way. so... 2.1 is out...My machines were so bored that I even built QT 2.3.0-beta1 for potato. ...unfortunatly we caught a snag with the unstable version...not that I don't get beat up enough for my qt uploads... :) There are probably some apps missing right now (someone asked about xmmsarts).. I'll get to those...They should start showing up over the next couple days... For those of you who don't want 2.1 but want the old 2.0.1... the kde2 section is for you. I uploaded new kdelibs and kdebase today as well that should fix the noxim errors. Have fun. Ivan -- Ivan E. Which qt-dev?
Now that KDE 2.1 final is out, which development (-dev) libraries should I download. I'm a bit confused as the output below shows: qt2 or qt2.2? Or should it be the new qt2.3 iirc? According to apt-cache search libqt2 the usual suspects are: libqt2.2 - Qt GUI Library (Migration package). libqt2-gl - Qt GUI Library (Open GL Version). libqt2-mt - Qt GUI Library (runtime threaded version). libqt2.2-dev - Qt GUI development headers, static libraries libqt2 - Qt GUI Library (runtime version). libqt2-dev - Qt GUI library (development version). libqt2.2-gl - Qt GUI Library (GL Version - Migration package).

I am using unstable and use the austrian mirror and the official server. Thank you for looking into things :-) libqt2 is a new package, which replaces the libqt2.2 ones. New packages must be treated manually by the debian ftp masters, where updated versions of packages that are already in debian get updated automatically. So, the updates for the kde-* packages got in unstable, while libqt2 still sits in the incoming directory. So, depending on the workload of the ftp masters, I guess libqt2 will be in unstable today or tomorrow. If you want to try kde2.1 *NOW*, you can grab the libqt2 and related packages from a mirror of debian's incoming directory. You can find a link to it on the developer's corner on www.debian.org. However, keep in mind that you have to verify the gpg signature of packages taken from incoming yourself, since it might not have been uploaded by Ivan and might contain troyan code. -- Andreas Trottmann [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: Bug in konqueror's address toolbar?
On Wednesday 28 February 2001 04:43, Pablo de Vicente wrote: I am using KDE 2.1 + potato and I have experienced the following problem with Konqueror: If I type in an URL in the address toolbar, Konqueror goes to the URL and renders its content. Now, if I add a subdirectory, and type RETURN, Konqueror keeps going to the first page and clears from the URL I type the added subdirectory. Example: I type www.kde.org . Konqueror goes to www.kde.org and renders its contents Then I type www.kde.org/announcements , and konqueror clears the toolbar and shows www.kde.org. again. This same behaviour repeats if I cut the URL with the mouse and type in a new URL. However if I clear the address toolbar with the black arrow with the white cross inside I may type in a new URL and Konqueror goes to that URL and renders its content. I have filed a bug report to kde. Does anybody else have this same problem? I was writing the following before I got to read your post, which sounds similar. My problem concerns local files. But I am adding this to your thread. There seems to be something wrong with Konqueror 2.1's popup url completion. This is one of the options on the context menu (submenu Completion) that appears when you right click on the text entry field in the Location Toolbar. Other options are automatic, semi-automatic, none and manual. Under popup completion if I tab at a url, a list of possible files, folders or webpages pops up. I can then continuing tabbing until i reach the item I want. This is quite similar to bash's own name completion feature. Let's say I want to go to the folder /home/penguin/infobank/http. Beginning at the folder /home/penguin/, I press i and a list that includes /home/penguin/infobank/ pops up. I tab to select /home/penguin/infobank/. I further type h and soon I get /home/penguin/infobank/http. I press enter and I'm finally taken to the folder http. That's the predictable part. However when I delete back the http and press enter, instead of taking me to the parent directory home/penguin/infobank/, konqueror dumps me back in /home/penguin/infobank/http. In fact, I can't access any other subfolder of penguin without pressing the X button in the toolbar (thereby starting afresh). This was not the way konqueror behaved in beta 2. Is this a bug or is it just my machine?
Re: Bug in konqueror's address toolbar?
On Tuesday 27 February 2001 02:43, Pablo de Vicente wrote: Does anybody else have this same problem? Yes, it also manifiests if you type in a url, and then try to alter the fully qualified domain name. An example I came accross today is eq.atlas.com edit to: www.eqatlas.com konq changes it to: eq.atlas.com Some servers won't prepend the www to an address, so I was stuck attempting to type the correct url, and getting the bad one instead. Deleting the entire url and re-typing it fixes this, as you noted.

Most fonts unavailable to KDE in KDE 2.1 final
Hi, I've just upgraded to KDE 2.1 final. I am running woody. System is AMD Athlon, Xfree 4, Nvdida TNT2 graphics card. The problem I am experiencing that only a handful of fonts are available to KDE and KDE apps. I have checked that the fonts are available to non KDE apps using xlsfonts and xfontsel. There used to be an app in KDE called kfontcontrol or somthing like that which controlled what fonts were made available but I think thats unecessary with KDE 2? I have made a screenshot which illustrates the problem. Note that the number of fonts available to xfontsel is some 10 times greater than that to the KDE font picker. Does anybody know how to control what kdeinit loads? Does it use a config file (which would the sane thing to do, IMHO), or is everything hardwired in? Interestingly, at least on my powerpc, the 2.1-beta2 koffice is still working. as it should. In fact the official koffice release for KDE 2.1 is the one that was released for 2.0.1. I'm already starting on the packages so that I can verify bug fixes and whatnot...pulling from the 2.1 branch (which will eventually become 2.1.1) so..here's my request...you find a bug, talk about it here, verify that others are having the problem...verify it's not already been reported to the Debian BTS...then report it. *** ONLY FOR UNSTABLE *** If you can't verify that people usuing unstable/sid packages are having the same problem please don't submit a bug report. I don't want potato packages which are built differently to affect any of kde's entry into testing. (not that that will happen anytime soon..but you never know). So please test as much as you can as soon as you can. I don't want to do a ton of updates if I can help it..I want to do 1 more and then sit on it all until 2.1.1 comes out. Ivan -- Ivan E.
