Bug#525669: libqt4: default font antialiasing of QT 4.5 results in blurry fonts, leading to bead readability

2009-04-26 Thread Gunter Ohrner
Package: libqt4-core
Version: 4.5.1-1
Severity: normal
File: libqt4

After upgrading my SID system from qt 4.4.3-2 to 4.5.1-1, fonts in all QT
applications were severely blurred.

Even completely vertical lines got a coloured fringe.

http://johan.kiviniemi.name/blag/ubuntu-fonts/ discusses the problem and
suggests a font.conf snipped which
fixes the font display isses.

Probably the QT 4 package should include this snipped or something with similar
functionality, at least as
an easily acitvateable example which is mentioned in a README or something.

Bug#525283: fixed

2009-04-26 Thread Debian Archive Maintenance
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:

  kde4 | 5 | all
kde4-development | 5 | all
kde4-minimal | 5 | all
 meta-kde4 | 5 | source

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
earliest.

Packages are never removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems.

Bugs which have been reported against this package are not automatically
removed from the Bug Tracking System. Please check all open bugs and
close them or re-assign them to another package if the removed package
was superseded by another one.

Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 525...@bugs.debian.org.

The full log for this bug can be viewed at http://bugs.debian.org/525283

This message was generated automatically; if you believe that there is
a problem with it please contact the archive administrators by mailing

Bug#525673: keditbookmarks: segfault when moving bookmark

2009-04-26 Thread Florentin Duneau
Package: kdebase-bin
Version: 4:4.2.2-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

keditbookmarks segfaults when I move a bookmark.

How to reproduce it with a mininal bookmarks file:

- remove all konqueror bookmark
- bookmark a page with Bookmark/Add bookmark menu
- launch keditbookmarks
- create a directory foo
- drag and drop the bookmark in foo directory

= keditbookmarks crashs. If it don't crash, retry the drag and drop, it
crashs.

I attached the keditbookmarks.crash file generated with all symbols.

Best regards

Hi system-config-printer people

KDE has started using parts of system-config-printer for printintg
configuration.

It wolud be nice to get the package split so that teh kde frontend doesn't
have to pull in half of gnome.

They have done the split in ubuntu, that could be a source of inspiration

 The system-config-printer-kde package depends on a system-config-printer
package that depends on gnome, gtk and glade. Is it possible to find a
solution similar to Ubuntu[1] where the package depends on a
system-config-printer-common package, containing only common files used by
 both frontends ?

You neither should click on the server, nor need to insert a pointer, so that
from Excel 8000 you can't open a modem of the 36-bit controller over the site
to the coaxial ISA monitor, this way you need to reset a device for installing
a case on a BIOS over a software of the processor.

Don't you forget that kopete can handle meta contacts, wich means you can have
two or more contacts from different IM systems in a same contact. In this
case, which avatar would have kopete to use?

If you still think that this wishlist bug still holds, please respond this
 mail and I'll forward it.

...

I guess that like I suggested in my original wishlist report, Kopete
could show the blue head for metacontacts, but use my fix the rest of
the time. :)

Bug#388175: New version available

2009-04-26 Thread Jason A. Spiro
2009/4/19 Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer perezme...@gmail.com:

 tag 388175 +moreinfo
 thanks

Kopete has a new version (4.2.2-1) in Debian's repos. Could you please check
 that this bug still holds?

Maybe I can check. My laptop is swapping horribly when I run
aptitude, which makes it hard to install new software, and because of
hard drive problems I don't want to create a swap partition yet. But
if I remember, then when I walk away from my PC I will install a newer
kopete.

I also saw that you filled lots of wishlist bugs in Debian. Would you mind
filling them in KDE's bugzilla? If you happen to do so, you may want to close
your wishlist bugs in Debian or at least forward them (ask me if you don't
 know how).

No, I will probably not forward them until
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62765 (remove some steps from the
KDE bug report wizard) are fixed. This is even though I have a good
Firefox form helper extension installed (Lazarus): it is still a long
slow process to forward one bug.

You don't have to forward the bugs either. If
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62765 is ever finally fixed,
maybe I will forward them myself. :)

Well I reported this bug nearly five years ago and nothing has been
done, and kde4 is used as a pretext to close it. The motivation for
the bug is still there.

Anyway, since the binary are probably documented somewhere, it should
be possible to generate manpages automatically that point to the

Bug#525763: [libqtgui4] Latest Qt4 release seems to break things in Synaptic/perl

2009-04-26 Thread Mau
Package: libqtgui4
Version: 4.5.1-1
Severity: important

I'm not really sure if I'm reporting this issue against the right
package, but I'll do it as a starting point.

Since the last libqtgui4 upgrade (from 4.4.3-2 to 4.5.1-1), Synaptic has
begun to behave strangely when called from a KDE4 session: the
preconfiguration perl script causes a glibc detected error and dies.
This is what happens trying to install a package:

Confirmed. And I think this happens since Qt 4.5.0.

Maybe you didn't install the konqueror package on Ubuntu but did so on SID?

In all cases, konqueror and khelpcenter (the KDE 4 versions) were installed.

Re: Intel 945GM card and KWin Effects - anyone with good, fast performance ?

2009-04-26 Thread emikaadeo
Well, I was testing earlier Kubuntu 9.04 on my machine - ( Kernel 2.6.28 +
intel 2.6.3 )
and the performance was a lot better i must say.
On Debian, even moving or resizing window with desktop effects enabled is
slower than on Kubuntu.
(but i don't want to use Kubuntu ;)
I've heard that kernel 2.6.30 got some improvements for Intel cards and gives a
lot better performance with Intel drivers 2.7.0 compare
to kernel 2.6.29 with the same drivers.

Wrong keyboard after KDE4.2 startup, ok after a while

2009-04-26 Thread Stephan Hachinger
Hi all,

I'm having a bizarre problem here. My system is lenny, with qt 4.4.3, X.Org
1.4.2 and recompiled KDE 4.2.2 from unstable. The kernel is a self-compiled
2.6.28. keyboard layouts are deactivated in kcontrol; activating them didn't
change anything to the better.

After I start KDE, the keyboard layout for ~the first 2 apps I start is US.
Typically I have this in the program starter (lancelot or kickoff), and in the
first iceweasel I start afterwards. For all apps I start then (e.g. if I kill
lancelot and then press the K menu) it's perfectly ok. If I only start an xterm
instead of kde, and then iceweasel, there seems to be no problem at all (i.e. I
have German layout).

This first appeared after I switched from etch (yes, there I also managed to
recompile kde 4.2.0 after recompiling some other packages ;)) to lenny. Back
then, I still had the etch 4.2.0 packages installed, and I thought the problem
was due to the 4.2.0 compiled on etch, another compiler or whatever.
Unfortunately, it wasn't.

My X.Org log is appended below. I used the kbd driver for input before, but the
switch to evdev didn't change the situation.

I really have no idea what the reason for this can be... maybe there's some old
config files hanging around, but I have no idea where that should be. This
system has not been freshly installed since ... potato?

Anyway, thanks for any help,

Stephan

I had a keyboard layout problem last sunday when updating my SID box.
Turned out I had Xorg updated but hadn't updated the respective HAL version

Since it now handles the input device settings, it asks for the layout and
variant settings.

I decided to stay with 2.6.29 kernel.
So as you've suggest I added to xorg.conf:

[ANN] New metapackages layout

2009-04-26 Thread Ana Guerrero

Hi,

For your information, we have finally transitioned the KDE metapackages to KDE
4 as well.

All the kde4-* metapackages that some of you used in experimental and for
little time in unstable, are now gone.

The final layout contains:

kde-minimal: it is exaclty the same that used to be kde4-minimal.
As its name says, it installs a minimal KDE desktop environment.

kde-full: it is what we firstly named kde4.
As its name says, it installs a full KDE desktop enviroment, all
the official modules.

kde-standard: it is a new package, currently it is the same than kde-minimal.
The goal of this package is installing what a ramdom user would
expect in a desktop enviroment. The meta-package will
contain this, as soon as we agree in what it should
ship. :)

The recommends method of installations is use kde-minimal and then use the
apps you need/want.
kde-standard will be for totally newbies users, that want a bit of everything
in the beginning when they do not know what apps there are. With time they will
learn what packages they want/need and just install them.

You all are invited to discuss and argue about how metapackages should be. Some
even will file (wontfix) bugs. But keep in mind for everybody the ideal set
of
metapackages is different, and we have tried to keep it simple and useful.

Ana

handled in an other way, so I am a little bit lost, where to look.

No, I don't think looking at their descriptions that these problems are the
same in anyway. You have something that does not retain your settings, this
other guy is having problems with unlocking the screen after the screensaver
has started. The only thing in common, from my POV is that you are talking
about screensaver, apart from that two completely different bugs.
Have you tried to create a new user and then look if the behavior is the same?

I have uninstalled the packages kscreensaver-xsavers-webcollage and
kscreensaver-xsavers and after logging out and in from kde the screensaver
is active, so maybe these packages are related to the problem

I'll need to do more tests to be sure, and I'll post back when I have more

Desktop Pager woes (KDE 4.2)

2009-04-26 Thread Steve M. Robbins
Hi,

Updated to KDE 4.2 about a week ago, which went mostly OK.

Previously, however, when I had multiple Desktops configured, the
panel would show only the applications running in the current desktop.
So if I had 8 desktops, each with an Iceweasel and a Konsole running,
the pager would show only the icon for the Iceweasel and Konsole
running on the current desktop, rather than showing 8 of each.

That feature seems to be gone.

Or: I can't figure out how to turn it on in KDE 4.2. Anyone
know how to do it?

Thanks,
-Steve
