Stretch will have KF 5/Plasma 5 based Kontact + Dolphin.

So the other way around is more likely. As far as I heard the intention is to
have most apps available in KF 5 / Qt 5 variants. I have already seen KF 5 /
Qt 5 uploads of kde extras apps like Kaffeine, smplayer and others. Amarok,
Krita, Digikam, KMyMoney still missing. I am not sure about Amarok, but I
think the others will be ready for packaging in time.

Dolphin in unstable is KF 5 / Qt 5 based already. KDEPIM + Akonadi in
experimental, soon in unstable I bet, too.

You can help.

For any bugs in KF 5 based wallet, I suggest you check with upstream
bugtracker at bugs.kde.org and if there are critical bugs also report with
Debian, including a link to the relevant upstream bug report.

kde wallet services

2016-06-14 Thread Tom Zander
Hi,

I was wondering if there is any ideas on how to solve the utter brokenness of
the wallet services on Debian Stretch right now.

Before freeze (the way it looks now) I'd suggest removing the kde5
walletmanager and shipping the kde4 one by default and compiling kde5 without
the wallet subsystem.

Just in case this is not a known issue;
if you run kde4 based apps, like konqueror or kontact, they use a wallet that
is not supported and not visible in the kde5 based kcm. So if you go to the
wallet manager you will see different information or no wallet at all.
Next to that, the kcm (kde5) for the "kde wallet" is quite buggy and
unfinished.
(quick example, try changing anything to get the password dialog and then
wait a minute. It times-out and shows an error dialog).

I'm closing this already now.

I have committed the soundcloud one upstream, and will be part of next

The torrentz one wasn't wanted upstream given it is looks like it is mostly

Hmm... I now think of something that might have an effect: in March,
so after I did the initial tests, I switched from the nouveau driver
to the NVIDIA proprietary driver (due to bugs in the nouveau driver).

Package: qtchooser
Version: 58-gfab25f1-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 7.3

Despite the problem is in libqt5core5a 5.6.0+dfsg-1, the rule is that
qtchooser should have a "Breaks" against this package.

The "affects" added in bug 825243 is unfortunately not sufficient
to make the user aware of the bug because aptitude ignores it (see
bug 825283). Moreover reportbug ignores it too (bug 544812).

Package: kde-full
Version: 5:90
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

I've got numerous crasches connected with libthread_db.so.1. The most
problematic are crashes of kdeinit. When I suspend to RAM and resume, I should
get password prompt screen. Instead of that I usually get the screen with
active windows without title bars (looks like kwin not working). Visible
windows are functional, one can watch and modify its content it is also a
security thread.
I have to restart KDE to get system usable (going to init 3 and then init 5).

There is more crashing apps. Kwin stops quite frequently (windows without
titlebars, etc.) but it can be started manually.
I observe also crashes of other KDE apps like Dolpin, Konsole all connected
with libthread_db.so.1.

The crashes of kwin are usually connected with changing monitor setup. I work
with laptop and two external monitors at work (connected to DisplayPort and
D-SUB). When i connect or disconnect external monitors kwin usually crashes.
Application: kdeinit5 (kdeinit5), signal: Segmentation fault

On the same machine, I can't reproduce the crash with 5.5.1+dfsg-17
(I haven't upgraded the machine yet). I've tried after downgrading
the qt5 packages (libqt5widgets5 and others) to 5.5.1+dfsg-13 too,
and I can't reproduce the crash either! I cannot see what has changed.

Anyway, the 5.6.1 packages are now in unstable, and upstream claims
that the bug has been fixed there. So, I suppose that this bug should
be closed and marked as fixed in 5.6.1+dfsg-2.

If Maciej still gets crashes with kwin, it is probably a different
bug.

replacing plasma notifications by another notification daemon

2016-06-14 Thread Cédric Boutillier
Hi!

I would like to use "cleanly" another notification daemon in my KDE
environment (dunst to be precise, because I like the small size of its
boxes and the possibility to replay notifications).

However, I haven't found any clean way to do that yet. dunst is started
early in my X session, but as I understand from the code in
plasma-workspace
https://sources.debian.net/src/plasma-workspace/4:5.6.4-2/dataengines/notifications/notificationsengine.cpp/?hl=91#L43
any existing notification daemon is killed and replaced by the plasma
one.

Is there a way to tell KDE to not deal with nofications at all and let
another program do it? I haven't found any, and for the moment, the only
solution I found is to comment (most of) the source code in the
NotificationsEngine constructor and NotificationsEngine::registerDBusService()
in that file and rebuild the package.
Is there a hidden option I missed, or a magic dbus invocation command I
could use?

I take the opportunity to thank a lot the KDE team for their wonderful
work, and for making me happy to use my computer.

Cheers,

Cédric

P.S. : note that it worked most of the time with one of my machines
without manual intervention, but it was maybe a bug :)

It started hitting unstable yesterday.

You will probably be able to test it alongiside KDE in ~12 hs.

Happy hacking!

Considering it doesn't build at all and the binaries have been removed from
Testing and Unstable, I think the chance of you making it worse is nil. If
you can get it building again, then I wouldn't wait.
