It finally appeared that Konqueror has been using _old_ version of Flash plugin, located somewhere in /usr/lib/netscape (similar name). The files there were from 2002 ... I couldn't find their package, so I have deleted them by hand. Konqueror found then other directory, with newer plugin version and YouTube started to work :) This is SID story - I hope it helps. Where is my old KDM login screen?
Hello, everything worked fine until a moth ago or so. After next logon (after dist-upgrade) I noticed that my KDM screen disappeared and was replaced with blue one. I was confused, but left the topic, because I didn't need anything special. But last time I have decided I miss some functionality. In fact, I wanted to have possibility to select users from a list, with predefined user and autocompletion. However it is no longer available. I have searched google, this list and bugs list for KDM. In several places I could find information that it has something to do with desktop-base package. I have edited /etc/defaults/kdm.d/10_desktop_base: USETHEME="true" THEME="/usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/circles" #old theme /usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/debian-moreblue" Nothing changed. I have installed kdm theme packages: ii kde-kdm-themes2007.01-1 Themes for the K Display Manager ii kdm 3.5.5a.dfsg.1-5 X display manager for KDE ii kdmtheme 1.1.2-1 theme manager for KDM Nothing changed. I have tried to select other theme in KDE Configuration Center, but none offered requested functionality. Now, the login process looks quite weird. First KDE welcome (splash) screen is displayed (that's fine). Then it is changed to KDM splash screen selected with Configuration Center (still fine). Afterwards the brand new background and login screen jump in (switching background is just ugly IMHO). After successful logon the brand new background disappears and previous one is displayed (another background switch :| ). Would you be so kind and suggest any solution to that? Debugging KDE
Hello, I'm looking for an advice. I would like to debug KDE itself. Not any specific application, just a issue with declaring/using keyboard shortcuts. I would like to avoid messing up my fully functional system and unnecessary KDE restarts. Version to debug will be the same as running one. How can I achieve this? Where can I find a simple howto? Weird ksysv behaviour
Hello, I have just tried using KSysV for the first time. And I have found it rather useless. I would like to know if it is the same case in your configurations, to eventually report the bug. 1. I cannot exit KSysV. Neither exit from menu, nor alt-f4/x button works. Only old fashioned kill works. Ouch, I have found a way to quit the app. Just to modify something (e.g. cut a service). Then just choose exit from menu, it will warn you about loosing changes, but after re-selecting quit it will eventually quit. 2. When started from menu it asks for root permissions. Understood. But then when I click on edit button (to edit a service) it says kded cannot launch kwrite. The same works when executed as normal user. 3. General usability. pmount/hal/usb issue
Hello,
I remember a discussion some time ago here about behaviour of KDE after
inserting e.g. USB stick. I cannot find it now and I'm not sure if this issue
is relevant, so don't bite me in case of redundant post.
Problem: I insert (plug) USB stick. Dialog box appears ("what to do"). I
choose "upload pictures to digikam" (yes, those were pictures in fact).
Then digikam cannot download the pictures. I go to /media and cannot see any
directories under it. Then I do "pmount /dev/sda1" and digikam is happy (yes,
previously it wanted to download pictures from the same, right location).
Which part of customization am I missing? What should I do - report a bug or
just set up something?

Actually it will disable it only in konqueror. When in KMail or KNode things
won't change. I guess if anyone wants them disabled it too, he or she put it
in khtmlrc file. I haven't tried it yet, so don't blame me if this doesn't
work.

Howto questions (konqueror)
Hello, today I would like to ask you about two (more or less annoying) things in my KDE. 1. Access keys. I believe it can be an useful feature, but those pop-ups appearing when I press Control key when I just don't need/use them ... Is there any way to disable this feature completely? 2. Auto-completion feature in web forms. In my case they are completely unpredictable. I mean that they work for some pages, but for others not (does not matter how often I enter the page). I have also observed that for a few months no new autocompletions have been added by Konqueror. Where can I control auto-completion behaviour? Where can I see/edit auto-completion list? KDE, Xorg and DPI setting

Actually because of problems between nvidia-glx package and xserver-xorg I held them manually about two-three months ago. Today I have finally managed to re-create nvidia package and wanted to test it out. It has been created by volunteers, who have translated movies from hearing. That is legal according to our law, in opposite to providing direct copy of e.g. DVD subtitles, which are copyright protected. Konqueror bug? making konqueror window very wide
Hello, could any of you confirm described behaviour, in case I would like to report a bug? Description: after opening archive format changing dialog konqueror window is made doubled in width. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open page http://www.napisy.org (Polish page with subtitles) 2. Enter any movie name in the only form on main page 3. On results page press middle mouse button on any link 4. "Choose archive format" dialog will appear and in the same moment konqueror window size is doubled. kmail - phrases - bugs?
Hello, thank you all for answers to my previous issues. Now I have potential problem, which I would like to submit to bugs.kde.org. However, I want to make sure that it is not my problem before submiting. Sorry for description of command/menu entries - I use polish version and all are rough english translation. Ok, let's start - I use KMail from KDE 3.5.1 in Debian SID. I want to reply to users' emails with customized reply strings, depending on user language. How to create keyboard shortcuts in KDE?
Hello, could you tell me how to create keyboard shortcuts in KDE and whether they work or not? I wanted to create some shortcuts for inserting commonly used text. I went to control center, regional settings and accessibility, keyboard actions/shortcuts (rough translation, I use localized version). I added new action, set its type as keyboard shortcut -> keyboard input, then defined shortcut as alt-b (alt-ctrl-b for the second try), then in last tab I entered my text, which I wanted to be sent to an application. I tried to choose all three choices in send input to radio button group. And eventually (after clicking all the apply buttons) nothing has been sent to any of tried applications (konsole, kate, kbabel). Have I done anything wrong? Or is this common KDE bug? How to get rid of notification after cd inserting
Hello, I use Debian Linux, version SID, with the newest official packages, including KDE. For about two months (more or less) after inserting cd into cd-rom annoying pop-up appears asking me what to do. I don't want it to appear, but don't know the way of disabling it. I run KDE Control Center, go to peripherals, then storage data (rough translation from my polish environment). In advanced tab I have only "Enable HAL" turned on, other two options (including something about CD-ROM status) disabled. Do you have any ideas how to get rid of my problem? KMail and non-blocking mail filtering
Hello, I use kmail with spamassassin for mail filtering. I set up two filters, first of them pipes message through `spamc` command. And it is extremely slow (possibly by looking to internet databases) - while processing e-mail kmail is not responding, even not redrawing its screen. I have searched the net and found only 4 things: - use spamc, not spamassassin (but I do) - disable network spamassassin lookups (I don't want to) - use fetchmail to fetch mail (but then why do I need kmail, if every part of it will eventually fall in category - use different tool) - kmail will eventually implement non-blocking mail filtering (I still wait for this as the most reasonable solution. In my opinion messages should be processed in parallel, without waiting, then woken up after processing finished). What do you think about it? Do you have any extra information? Created a brand new user, then sent him an e-mail with attachment. In his case the delay may be also observed, but it is shorter than in my case (about 2-3 seconds). I think it is somehow connected to copying the file to temporary directory. But don't understand why it takes so long. And still search for a tool to debug this. Very slow "Open with..." in KMail
Hello, I have used KDE for a long time. And for a few months I have a problem which I don't know how to cope with. Sometimes I get attachments in KMail. I click right mouse button on them and select open with... from context menu. And here my problem appears - I have to wait for 3-60 (approximately) seconds before dialog box with programs to choose will appear on the screen. It is always reproducible. It depends somehow on size of the attachment (the bigger one, the longer I have to wait). It is at least irritating to me. I have observed it in at least all 3.4.x KDE versions (currently 3.4.3 Debian packages). I have tried to run strace on kmail, but even with -f switch (follow forks) times reported by the tool were bizarre (less than a second, when I had 10 seconds delay).
