The Debian alternatives system will only work if you use > the blackdown .debs. You can add one of these to /etc/apt/sources.list: > > deb http://www.tux.org/pub/java/debian sid main non-free > or > deb http://www.tux.org/pub/java/debian woody main non-free > Ehm, maybe you didn't read my msg entirely...I say, I CHANGED java machine and installed the one from BLACKDOWN, here is may apt source: deb ftp://ftp.tux.org/pub/java/debian woody main non-free and it makes Konqueror to crash. I do not think using the absolute path should be an issue here, shouldn't it? If it works, it should work both from the symlink or the absolute path, it doesn't matter. -- saluti, Mauro On this machine no Windows system survives and LINUX POWER reigns UNLIMITED.
konqueror java support fails again
hello all, thanks for your answers on my problem. I put in Konqueror: path to java executable: /usr/local/j2re1.4.1/bin/java and the previous error disappeared, but when trying a java application I only got :' loading applet ' and nothing more. I tried a different java machine, installing debian package j2re1.3 from blackdown, and the result is different but equally useless: I get a konqueror crash. My path to java executable is now: /usr/lib/j2se/1.3/bin/java. ciuff ciuff the little train... -- saluti, Mauro On this machine no Windows system survives and LINUX POWER reigns UNLIMITED.
konqueror java support fails
hello all, after many efforts I must say I cannot make konqueror of kde 3.1.1 to use java. I have read the konqueror java faq. I have the debian packages kdejava and kdebindings-java installed, plus j2re 1.4.1 from Sun tar.gz binary installed. Also in Konqueror->settings->java&javascript->path to java executable: /usr/local/j2re1.4.1/bin/ and "java globally" enabled. I get the following message trying to load a java application: error: java executable not found Any help will be appreciated... -- saluti, Mauro On this machine no Windows system survives and LINUX POWER reigns UNLIMITED.
little project with snort, kmail, korn, and postfix
hello all, I was wondering what is the correct way to configure things in order to have snort in nids mode which sends e-mail alerts to me which are detected by Korn and read by myself with Kmail. I have configured Postfix to use the Maildir format used by Kmail. Any suggestion ? -- saluti, Mauro On this machine no Windows system survives and LINUX POWER reigns UNLIMITED.
kmail 1.5.1 threads
I have noticed that only a mailing-list of mine have threads support. The others (including this one, debian-kde) show no threads support and the kmail expand all threads command has no effect on these. Is it some bad configuration from myself or kmail fault ?? -- saluti, Mauro On this machine no Windows system survives and LINUX POWER reigns UNLIMITED.

hello, I get an error message on krec 0.1 startup using kde 3.1.1 and woody : Unable to find Compressor Your system is missing the Synth_STEREO_COMPRESSOR aRts module. I have the meta package kdemultimedia installed and I am sure that the above module is NOT missing since typing: 'artsshell stereoeffect list' this module is shown. kpackage errors in kde 3.1.1 under woody stable
hello, after upgrading from kde 3.0.2 to kde 3.1.1 my kpackage does not work properly. If am root it does not install anything (I get exec:not found, I suspect for some reason it cannot find the path to dpkg). If I am normal user it does install (after prompting the root password) but making huge windows which get outside the monitor screen. In any case (root or user) I cannot mark any package. It worked flawlessy under kde 3.0.2...Any clue ? -- saluti Mauro On this machine no Windows system survives and LINUX POWER reigns UNLIMITED.
kdevelop 2.1.5 using kde 3.1.1 unable to find htdig.conf
hello, after installing kdevelop 2.1.5 in kde 3.1.1 during the set up procedure I have discovered that it is unable to find the htdig.conf file. I installed htdig from woody debian package and the file path is /etc/htdig/htdig.conf. What is wrong ? -- saluti Mauro On this machine no Windows system survives and LINUX POWER reigns UNLIMITED.
