File manager super user mode not working

2005-04-04 Thread Mauro Darida
hello all,
I am using kde 3.3.2 of sarge and have noticed that the file manager under the
super user mode does not work correctly, i.e. all text documents are viewed
as read-only and cannot be modified.
Anyone experiencing this? Do I need to configure something manually? I don't
recollect any problem with previuos kde versions.

 Hi,

When I start it, after some time the root-konqueror pops up for just a

I can confirm that on a plain woody system. Please file a bug report at

 Any idea?

Hi,

it has already been filed as Bug 50686.
Sorry, I should have looked there first.

I tracked it down for me here. It works if you clean up /tmp and your
/root/.kde* and /root/.mcop* files

Open a console and start

kdesu -t konqueror

and for a test any other x-program like xterm to see if that works. If
konqueror spits out stuff like ld 'kde2.2' then your /root/.kde stuff is
still messed up.

Re: Crash: File Manager - Super User Mode

2003-01-18 Thread Felix Homann
OK,

I think I figured it out.
The villain is /tmp/mcop-username.

Although I removed it it got rewritten with owner username.username when I
restarted KDE. The solution was to first start KDE, *then* remove it and
then do kdesu -t konqueror.

Now /tmp/mcop-username is owned by root.root. I wonder if this really is the
way it should be?

Another problem is that after a reboot mcop-username is again written with
username.username ownership, i. e. removing the relevant files/directories is
only a temporary workaround!

Thanks for your help,

Felix

File Manager - Super User Mode

2002-08-29 Thread Cloverm
Hello,

If I try to run Konqueror as root while logged in as a normal user (same
as clicking on File Manager - Super User Mode from the KDE menu) it
crashes with this error: /tmp/mcop-cloverm is not owned by user. Of
course not, because I just became root. If I chmod root.root
/tmp/mcop-cloverm, it solves to problem, but than I can't run konqueror
as the normal user any more. What gives?
