Hello Serja,

it is possible. Just open the kde menu, drag the debian sub menu an drop
it on to the panel. Now remove the kde menu from the panel. I have a
normal folder icon as the icon of the debian menu. I don't know how to
change this.

Maybe update-menus needs to be run as root?

I tried removing /var/lib/kde, then running update-menu, and update-menu was
recreating the directory tree. If it does not do that for you, it sounds like
something is wrong with update-menu, or maybe with the
/etc/menumethods/kicker script.

It has happened to me too that config files disappear "by themselves", and I
am 100% sure I didn't do it. Due to a "feature" of debian, if a config file
disappears, reinstallation or upgrading a package does not put it back.
Purging and reinstallation does, though, as does dpkg --force-confmiss. Maybe
that's what have happened to you? Check that /etc/menu-methods/kicker is
there. There should also be a menu.conf and menu.h in that directory.

thats right,
the thing is that update-menus finally runs this kde-update-script
and as i do not have the /var/lib/kde-dir present (for whatever reason)
it cannot update the menus...

any ideas where this directory could be gone and why? i really
didnt delete it by hand...

thanks,

It is one of those marvellous specialised scripts that are run internally and
are undocumented. It runs as part of the installation process of a package,
and you should not run it yourself.

The reason for the error message is that it requires one parameter, and
whoever wrote it didn't think that anyone would call it without.

The way to run is: /usr/bin/update-menus

Dirk,
I just tried it on my machine, and I get this:
/usr/bin/kde-update-menu: line9: [: =: unary operator expected

I have no idea what this means. Can anyone shed any light on this for
me?

Sincerely,
Jon

hello,

i am using kde3.1.2 and don't have the debian-menu-entry
in the startmenu anymore.
if i try to run kde-update-menu, he cannot find /var/lib/kde (which
actually doesnt exist).

any ideas?

thanks in advance,

Sure Ivan, for you, nothing is too far outta reach! :--)

When the icon is clicked, and error box opens.

SORRY - KDE PANEL
Couldn't launch ~/office52/soffice

can you elaborate "really pisses off KDE."? What's it doing or not doing?

I don't suppose the problem could be due to a missing close quotes could it?
Or maybe this is just a copy-paste error.. anyway, thought I'd mention it.
