Greeting, I don't think it will work fine without konqueror.desktop since a guy on iirc channel (#debian-kde) told me his konqueror worked fine without this file just before the problem came out and asked me for konqueror.desktop. However, it is no longer supposed to be in there. Something must have failed to be updated in the debs that you have, which is causing the failure of konqueror to run. A fresh install of the debs I have built from KDE_3_1_BRANCH work fine without that file existing. Chris

It appears that the launch problem is fixed with Karolina's latest konqueror deb and it doesn't use konqueror.desktop. Karolina, It IS fixed - my error. I believe it was fixed when I installed konqueror_3.1.0+rel+kl-2_i386.deb from shakti.ath.cx/debian. (I downloaded it directly - my apt-get didn't get it automatically). Grepping your archive directory probably won't do. A .deb file is an uncompressed ar(1) archive containing a gzipped tar file (data.tar.gz) which in turn contains all the files to be installed. Since the tarball is compressed, grepping it isn't useful. I don't suppose zgrepping the .deb would be useful either, since the ar(1) archive isn't compressed. To unpack a .deb: ar -x file.deb tar xzf data.tar.gz then look under ./usr/share/services for the konqueror.desktop file. The new -8 package has some changes to the font rendering which some people don't care for. Downgrade to -7 if you prefer it as it was. Is the fix supposed to be in the 3.1.0 debs now? Also, my fonts have gone kind of screwy, Arial looks rather bad at size 9 and 11 (good at 10!) . I've been careful not to dip from sid during the transition, but maybe some package got updated and now my fonts are a little off. I'm downgrading to rc6 again to see if that fixes the font issues (probably not) and to find this missing ".desktop".

Unfortunately not, but I have this too... I can also add, that it is not correct, that it works from konsole. In fact running "konqueror" does work - from console or otherwise. Running "kfmclient openProfile webbrowsing" leads to: ERROR: Couldn't start konqueror from konqueror.desktop: Could not find service 'konqueror.desktop'. This is also what the kicker-button executes... Hmm... Went fishing a bit more and it seems to me that the file '/usr/share/services/konqueror.desktop' is indeed missing after the last update. So it should be easy to fix with a new package. In the meantime you can extract it from an old archive or get it from somwhere else. And BTW: Thanks to Karolina for all the work of providing her packages for such a long time now. It's much appreciated! Mika
