Smooth tasks

2015-07-15 Thread Salvo Tomaselli
Hello,

I am co-maintainer of smooth tasks.

Upstream has still activity but there are no commits in the direction
of supporting plasma 5.

Meanwhile, there is a plasmoid in plasma5 that does something similar,
but I think overall it's rather crappy. For example it groups windows
and has no option to not do so.

I have written a bug to upstream but if they don't respond I suppose
the package will have to be removed.

Fair enough.

I see, long source+binary names and version too, over the second "not-
so-soft" limit for filenames; if anybody has a suggestion for something
shorter, feel free to tell it. (There's also the epoch way, although I'm
not too sure it is worth it.)

Ok.

Hi,

thanks for the quick reply.

Well my main motivation is that i use it and the new unity-looking-like
plasmoid that does the same thing, is not really the same.

Uh i know, i just wrote to the author and hope in a reply. And opened a couple
of bugs to point out outdated readme..

he hasn't replied yet and he has not been online in the past days so i think
we should give him more time.
In case he agrees, I've already put myself as uploader and re-uploaded the
package on my homepage

Ok i think i added everything in the changelog file.

done.
Finding the name and email of the new author wasn't really trivial but in the
end i found it in the copyright notice of one of the source files (recent
commit).

Using this version.
However lintian doesn't seem very happy about the resulting filenames.

Great

Well then i guess i am done, and Salvo Rinaldi can either agree on the changes
or do other changes himself before the upload.

Bye

This package is one of the two currently not compatible with KDE
workspace 4.8 libraries, so thanks for working on it.

It could seem ok, although having some kind of release upstream would be
even better...

If he agrees, you could always have yourself as added Uploader (which
equals to a co-maintainer).

> I've changed the homepage in the control file.

This change shall be described in changelog.
In general, any change you do shall be there, like:
- the change of upstream, and the fact that you are doing a snapshot
from a VCS (and possibly from which branch)
- Standards-Version bumps
- build dependencies bumps
- changes in the patches
etc.
copyright needs to be updated with the new contributor(s) too.
(Also as niptic: the patches directory can be removed altogether if it's
empty.)

> I think the changelog has to be edited because i am not sure of which
> version number should be assigned to the package.

The version you chose is not correct, since it's lower than the current
version:
$ dpkg --compare-versions '0.0~flupp0' gt '0.0~wip20100227' && echo yes
(prints nothing)
This would cause the fact that the new version would not replace the old
one automatically, and more important that it will not enter the Debian
archive (since new releases must be always greater than the last one in
the specified suite).

The fact that there isn't a stable release does not help with this; one
solution could be to append a marker of the flupp VCS snapshot, like:
  0.0~wip20100227+flupp0~hgMMDD

smooth-tasks

2012-06-10 Thread Salvo Tomaselli
Hi all,

given that smooth-tasks gets removed and apparently it can't compile on kde
4.8, i've found a fork online and packaged it.

http://galileo.dmi.unict.it/~ltworf/smooth-tasks/

i did not change the original maintainer field, but i know him personally and
he hasn't been replying. he's on cc.

the fork works and i am using it right now, but i don't know why, plasma
decided that it's a different plasmoid than the previous version so i had to
remove the "X" plasmoid and add it again (and reconfigure it).

I've changed the homepage in the control file.

I think the changelog has to be edited because i am not sure of which version
number should be assigned to the package.

Let me know your comments (cc me in the replies since am not in the mailing
list).

In case of upload, neither me or Salvo Rinaldi are DD so after the very likely
modifications required a sponsor would be required.

Bye
