Bug#673391: Bug to update be2net driver in Debian 7.0
Ben, I thought I was supposed to give changes only for be2net driver. Should have asked. Sorry about that. I have some quick question on the issues you have pointed. May be I am stating the obvious but I just want to be sure, I assume that you have not applied any of the patches in the series till I get all of them right? Sarvesh Since the following patches have changes to other drivers as well, not only be2net, Should send you a patch list without these changes, (and only contain changes to be2net driver) and open separate bugs to get these changes into all drivers ? Also you want 31/61 to go into 3.2 stable right? Do you want me to do that first before I give it for debian? Sarvesh 1/61 'sweep the floors and convert some .get_drvinfo routines to strlcpy' (commit 68aad78c5023b8aa82da99b47f9d8cf40e8ca453 upstream) applied to many drivers; please note in the patch header that you've filtered it to just be2net. Same for 27/61 'netdev: make net_device_ops const'. 31/61 'ethtool: Null-terminate filename passed to ethtool_ops::flash_device' (commit 786f528119722f564a22ad953411374e06116333 upstream) is wrong; by filtering to only drivers/net/emulex/benet/ you've lost the essential part of it! Bug#668511: Kernel panic with bridge networking
# patch applied to mainline tags 668511 - moreinfo quit Hi Max, Massimo Cetra wrote: It didn't work the way it was described in that document. Probably because i'm on squeeze and test-patch throw some python exceptions that do not happen on wheezy. Instead: - i downloaded the debian sourrces with dget. - i applied the patch manually (it's very short) because the offsets were not the same - i re-generated the sources with dpkg-buildpackage -S - i boult the whole linux-$stuff with pbuilder. Sounds painful. Here are instructions for testing against upstream source, which might be easier. 0. prerequisites apt-get install git build-essential 1. get the kernel history, if you don't already have it git clone \ git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git 2. fetch point releases cd linux git remote add stable \ git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git git fetch stable 3. configure, build, test git checkout stable/linux-3.2.y cp /boot/config-$(uname -r) .config; # current configuration scripts/config --disable DEBUG_INFO make localmodconfig; # optional: minimize configuration make deb-pkg; # optionally with -jnum for parallel build dpkg -i ../name of package reboot Hopefully it reproduces the bug. So: 4. try the patch cd linux git cherry-pick -x -s a881e963c7fe make deb-pkg; # maybe with -j4 dpkg -i ../name of package reboot You wrote at [1] that this doesn't seem to have completely solved the bridging-related panics. Bug#670398: Deadlock in hid_reset when Dell iDRAC is reset

Resetting the iDRAC is an out of band process and has to be issued via a separate management network to the iDRAC. I found the time to test this issue in several OS-Hardware combinations: R210 Squeeze - hangs R210 Ubuntu 10.04 - recovers (to my surprise) R210 II Squeeze - hangs R210 II Ubuntu 10.04 - hangs R210 II CentOS 6.1 - hangs (expected, just tried that to be sure) R710 Squeeze - not effected Sven We have observed that doing a reset on idrac on low-end server like R|T210 R|T310 triggers the panic whereas the high end servers do not deadlock on an iDRAC reset so we know that this timing dependent. Ben - I had attached the patch to the earlier thread. Bug#664767: Brcmsmac driver woes, possible regression?

It would be nice to get this fixed in 3.2.y upstream if possible. Just for the record, I've had to stop using brcmsmac for now (it usually went down when doing regular updates in wheezy :-/) and I'm currently running wl, which runs quite well (no reconnects, no dropdowns and stable as a rock). I'll keep doing tests from time to time when a new kernel arrives (3.4 should be out, so I can compile and test brcmsmac from the mainline, time permitting). [...] Is there something we can do to improve the driver status in Wheezy? I think we ought to update brcmsmac to the latest version available for wheezy. It is a young driver, and the version in 3.2 has serious problems as described by Seth Forsee[1]: | The background is that brcmsmac contains a bunch of code for regulatory | support that is either duplicated (and in conflict) with the | protocol-level support or else it would better be handled there. This is | causing problems on pretty much any channel that isn't part of the | default world regulatory domain. | | I've sent RFC patches that strip out the vast majority of this code in | favor of better integration with the protocol-level regulatory support. Unfortunately that could a little tricky because there might be changes elsewhere that brcmsmac relies on (bcma, wireless core). Jonathan [1] http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel.wireless.general/87873/focus=90727 Thanks for you ongoing support on this, Jonathan. Bug#607301: I think I misunderstood The SiI 3114 User Manual Page 5. HDDs Function Normally When Not in RAID Sets.

I now believe it means; that there is no valid Direct Access Storage Device (DASD), that the BIOS can communicate with. If so, I need to either :- 1.) Install a second disk to make a valid RAID array, or 2.) Change the SiI 3114 to (non raid) SATALink firmware. Sorry for the long silence. Did you end up learning more about this?
