Hello,

From from a user's point of view, as this chip is on quite a number of
mobos, some users will suddenly find they loose internet connection
after a kernel upgrade. Please consider making an announcement on d-a
(and may be d-u) list so that users do know what's happening.

There is no 2.6.23.

Hello,

Thanks for the information. I can live with it. :-) Just like to
understand the reason behind as it makes the headers uninstallable and
modules can't be built the debian way. Is it a policy for experimental
kernels?

Hello Jonas,

As you said, there is no secret at all. :-)

I understand if this can be confusing: Some get furious when you make
too much noise in bugreports, others (like me) when you don't.

Besides, I did not request those lengthy details - on the contrary I
suggested this to be a non-bug.

Thanks for your opinion but that's something I, as an ordinary user and
reporter of (probable) bugs, not fully competent to judge.

And if you were to play nice with lengthy details for bugreports you
could either compress it or put it somewhere on the web and only refer
 to it with a URL.

I *have* thought about all these options and I've chosen this course
action which IMO is reasonable, under the current circumstances. And I'm
sure package maintainers would provide sufficient information to the bug
list after the investigation.

Your opinion is noted and this will be the last you hear (directly) from
me on this topic. Thank you for your patience and

good day,

I believe not only non-free, but also unsupported.

If possible then try switching to a driver provided with Debian and see
if the problem persists. If it does then we need to solve the problem,
if not then file a bug whereever you found your unsupported driver.

Thanks Jonas, but this driver is provided by debian, now.
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/x11/fglrx-driver

I'm not really competent enough to judge whether this problem is related
to the kernel or the driver (or both) but I did not run into this
problem with the older 2.6.12 kernel (driver compiled from same source
using m-a). I looked at various logs and that's what I found. If it's
not related to the kernel, I can file it against the driver.

Thanks very much again,

Bug#343686: debsums: checksums mismatch + bug #343048 again

2005-12-17 Thread LUK ShunTim
Package: linux-image-2.6.15-rc5-686
Version: 2.6.14+2.6.15-rc5-0experimental.1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

After installing linux-image-2.6.15-rc5-686 and rebooting, I got errors similar
to that reported in bug #343048, that is

quote

/bin/cat: /sys/block/hda/dev: No such file or directory

However, the strange thing is when I invoke reportbug to report it, I got these
bunch of checksum errors
