Bug#1001128: linux-image-5.15.0-2-amd64: Kernel crashes my GPU

2021-12-18 Thread Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer
Package: src:linux
Version: 5.15.5-1
Followup-For: Bug #1001128
Forwarded: -1
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/-/issues/4530#note_1166414
X-Debbugs-Cc: lisan...@debian.org

I can reproduce this bug on my machine when I log into Plasma.

The cause seems to be detected and fixed according to
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/-/issues/4530#note_1166414

According to what other distros did the fix seems backportable.

Bug#1001128: Fixed in linux-image-5.16.0-rc5-amd64 5.16~rc5-1~exp1

2021-12-18 Thread Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer
This bug is not present in linux-image-5.16.0-rc5-amd64 5.16~rc5-1~exp1

I'm not tagging it on the BTS because I'm not sure how the versioning works
for the kernel.

Bug#971791: Extra information

2020-12-03 Thread Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer
Sorry if I break the thread, I'm currently using a broken MUA.

Apart from the missing firmware there is also
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=208965 which seems to be
fixed by https://marc.info/?l=linux-bluetooth&m=160378222632366&w=2

So even installing the firmware would not be enough for current Debian unstable.

Let me try this week. That machine has not been updated because of this bug,
as the machine was really needed to be functional.

Still happens with Squeeze's latest kernel/xorg.

The only thing that changed is that, when an external monitor is
connected to the VGA port, now the LCD comes back to life (with the
other kernels, the VGA will show the screen).

I'm now upgrading to testing.

Bug#622993: I can confirm this bug

2011-04-29 Thread Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer
Hi!I have a

01:00.1 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc Manhattan HDMI Audio [Mobility
Radeon HD 5000 Series]

With a dual screen setup. Not so long ago (less than a week) both monitors
(ViewSonic VG2021wm) were working fine. Somehow the monitor connected to the
DVI port started not being detected correctly on boot (wrong edid?). Dmesg
shows:

[drm:drm_edid_block_valid] *ERROR* EDID checksum is invalid, remainder is 54
[drm:drm_edid_block_valid] *ERROR* Raw EDID:

And so I can't go more than 1024x768 on a 1680x1050 capable LCD. As this was
working some days ago, there must have been a regression somewhere :-/

Kinds regards, Lisandro.

Sure! Just out of ignorance: do I have to compile the complete kernel again or
there is a way around this?

The patch works perfectly, so at least I have a workaround :-) Thank you!

Now the question is why the DVI port gets a corrupt EDID while the VGA port
gets it right. Or maybe the code processing the EDID of the DVI port is wrong?

Don't heasitate in contacting me if I can be of any further help.

Considering my video card is an Ati, wich I suspect doesn't use nouveau, it
must not be this last one.

And at least in my case, my card was working with a 2.6.38 kernel without
problems, except I am missing something here.

Kinds regards, Lisandro.

Yes, but I failed to check the versions of the software I upgraded :-(

Did you mean the patch to tell dri to forget about bad checksums? If so, I
already tried it and worked fine.

If you are talking about something else, please give me some link :-)

This is clearly not my problem. I have two monitors, both the same brand and
model. One is connected to the VGA output and the other one on the DVI. No
matter wich one I plug into the DVI port, it detetcts the EDID worngly, while
the VGA does it correctly.

Or the VGA port is ignoring broken edids even without the "forget broken
edids" patch, or somehow the DVI port is getting wrong edids, or checksumming
them wrongly.

Thanks, that's exactly the patch I'm already using. Works perfectly :-)

I should mention that both monitors are VGA, so I'm using a VGA←→DVI adpator.
And as I said before, it used to work without the patch :-)

One simple question: is it possible to get the edid info provided by the VGA
port? In that way one could compare both raw outputs.

Bug#708456: Does not detects correct resolution of monitors (regression)

2013-05-15 Thread Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer
Package: src:linux
Version: 3.8.12-1
Severity: important

Hi! Booting with this kernel I can't get X to detect the correct
resolution of my monitors.

xrandr outputs:

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1152 x 864, maximum 1360 x 1360

   512x384 120.0
   400x300 120.6
   320x240 120.1

While my monitors (both ViewSonic vg2021wm) are capable of doing 1680x1050.
Wheezy's kernel could detect the right resolution in only one of them
(see #624549). Well, actually it could detect the right resolution on both of
them if patched to ignore EDID checksum errors.

Status of this bug

2018-07-23 Thread Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer
This has happened so far:

From the Debian side maxy added haveged as a sddm recommendation and as a
workaround.

From the Qt side Thiago from upstream is trying to determine what changed in
the kernel side, as this clearly started to happen with 4.16 and got worse
with 4.17.

Ben, linux maintainers: if you could give us a hand to determine what changed
from the kernel side it would be much much appreciated. If we find that there
are valid changes then we might have an opportunity to make Qt upstreams
reconsider the issue.

Cheers, Lisandro.

Bug#915178: i915: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000008

2018-12-01 Thread Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer
Package: src:linux
Version: 4.18.20-2
Severity: serious
Justification: Renders machine unusable

Hi! This is a regression with respect to linux-image-4.18.0-2-amd64, which I'm
using now.

With linux-image-4.18.0-3-amd64 the i915 driver tries to dereference a NULL
pointer, leaving
the video in the machine unusable (I can only access the machine trough
network).

I'm attaching dmesg's putput in that case.

Thanks, Lisandro.

No luck, same error. I did rmmoded vboxdrv after installing the .deb generated
by m-a, and modprobed the new one.

Bug#593421: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: fails to show anything on the LCD display with an Intel video card

2010-08-17 Thread Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer
Subject: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: doesn't show anything on the LCD
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-20
Severity: important

Since upgrading to this version of this package (2.6.32-20), the LCD in my
computer fails to show anything before "setting up fonts" during bootup.
If I downgrade to 2.6.32-18, the LCD comes back but I have no WiFi.

The video card is an Intel one. If I plug an external monitor I can see both
the booting messages and X.

If I set

options i915 modeset=0

in /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf, the kernel will fail to boot (the LCD is
turned off, and I can see blinking leds in capcslocks and another led).

Regards, Lisandro.

thanks

I'm setting this to grave because it's not allowing me to use the PC unless I
install version 2.6.32-18.

I have to attach an external monitor to get a screen (this is a laptop). If I
detach the external monitor, the LCD comes back to life.

Regards, Lisandro.

I have already tried it on Friday without luck :-( The symptoms are the same:
blank screen with backlight enabled. Once I plug an external monitor the LCD
comes alive.

Thanks for asking non the less :-)
