Bug#159918: libsidplay1 contains no shlibs file

You should not declare the dependency manually, but rather find out why it
is not being generated automatically and fix that problem.

[clickety clickety]

The problem is that libsidplay1 has no shlibs file. It's instead in
libsidplay1-dev, where it doesn't belong, and so dpkg-shlibdeps doesn't work
correctly.

(hardcoding the dependency would have just hidden this bug for a while
longer)

Problem with shlibs

2002-09-06 Thread Carlos Laviola
Hi,

A package that I maintain -- mp3blaster -- doesn't include libsidplay1
as a dependency, even though it links against it. I hadn't noticed that
because I thought everything was working fine, as I hadn't tried to
install the package on a cleaner system or a chroot or anything.
Anyway: should I declare the dependency manually, or is there a way to
make dpkg-shlibdeps recognize libsidplay1 as one of the dependencies?

TIA, Carlos.

Thanks for the hard work, Zack. Have you tried writing to Brian Nelson?
[EMAIL PROTECTED] (or maybe [EMAIL PROTECTED]). Since he did the last
NMUs, I figure he's the best person to upload the fixed package (he can
clean up his own mess, so to speak).

If he doesn't respond, then I guess I can upload it. I reported Bug #159039.

Thanks again for fixing it. It's a great little game :)

Check over doclifter package

2002-09-06 Thread Ross Burton
Hi,

I have packaged ESR's doclifter package for Debian, and would like
someone to have a look at the packaging for me. Someone who has
packaged Python before would be good, as it depends on Python 2.2. When
I run lintian I get one message I am worried about -- "strange
interpreter" -- it appears that lintian doesn't know that python2.2 is a
valid interpreter.

It is available from 'deb http://www.burtonini.com/debian /', package
doclifter.

Ross

version of package being replaced ?

2002-09-06 Thread Sven LUTHER
Hello, ...

I wish to be able, in a package postinst, to be able to know the
previously installed version of the package, so i can take different
actions depending of the version we are replacing.

I suppose it is also possible to easily distinguish between a first time
install and an upgrade.

Is such a thing possible, how can it be done.

Friendly,

Sven Luther

Yes, I know. This one is different, you do not have to boot the box with
it. You can use it in a running system.

This was _very_ helpful for finding out that a SDRAM bar in our server was
faulty, which caused spurious Ooopses. We could not afford a longer
downtime of the server to run memtest86.

We did use memtest86 on _another_ box to find out which one of the
two SDRAMs was faulty. But we had nearly no downtime on the server, besides
the time we needed to put in new RAM.
