(Though I'm not a user of edb.) Some somments and patches: * Build-Depends debhelper and patch should be moved from Build-Depends-Indep to Build-Depends because those packages are used at the clean target. * Standards-Version Current version is 3.7.2. * duplicate-conffile /etc/emacs/site-start.d/50edb.el is marked as conffile duplicately. dh_installemacsen does enough job, so it should be removed from `debian/conffiles'. * copyright You mentions `Added copyright holder' in changelog, but there is no change. * short description The short description should not begin with an article. See also Developer's Reference 6.2.2. * long description Please add a space to the beginning of `Homepage:'. (Two spaces prepending the `Homepage:' line) See also Developer's Reference 6.2.4. * emacs-snapshot Other version of GNU Emacs, emacs-snapshot, is available. * emacsen-startup To add the package directory to load-path, debian-pkg-add-load-path-item should be used. See also `/usr/share/doc/emacsen-common/debian-emacs-policy.gz'. If the package is removed but not purged, the setup should be skipped. * emacsen-install, emacsen-remove If flavor is `emacs', don't display messages. * emacsen-install Add -q to not load user init files when byte-compiling. Make *.el symlinks to find the source files from Emacs Help. xemacs22 (not yet available) should be skipped. I've created the attached patch for the above things. Other things are: * emacsen-install It's better to use log file in emacsen-install to suppress redundant messages. Examples: /usr/lib/emacsen-common/packages/install/debian-el /usr/lib/emacsen-common/packages/install/devscripts-el * new upstream version As mentioned in bug#303785, new upstream version was released. However, the upstream site http://www.glug.org/people/ttn/software/edb/ seems no longer exist. The announce of `EDB 1.27 available' was posted on July 13, 2006 at gnu-emacs-sources@gnu.org, but the file cannot be downloaded. Though edb-1.25 is downloadable from gentoo mirrors, such as http://gentoo.osuosl.org/distfiles/edb-1.25.tar.gz Does anyone know the new upstream site? * patch This package uses the patch command directly. You must have got your copy from debian-multimedia.org So that the package builds fine, you have to remove mp4v2 support. Aslo, you might want to build your package in a clean chroot thanks to pbuilder to check the build-dependencies. Here are my other comments about the package: * I would consider changing the short description for something like highly interoperable media player (without article...) * Please add an extra-space before the Homepage: pseudo-header in debian/control * The copyright information are not clear to me, an dI think you missed quite a lot of copyrighted files in debian/copyright * You should not include empty doc files (NEWS and TODO) in your package * Your package misses man pages for some binaries (bmp-enqueue-uris-2.0, bmp-play-files-2.0, bmp-play-lastfm-2.0, binary-without-manpage, bmp2). As for bmp2, you can simply symlink to beep-media-player-2 As a side note, I find it quite misleading that the package (and the source tarball) is called bmpx whereas the main executable is /usr/bin/beep-media-player-2. Shouldn't the binary package be called beep-media-player-2 (whereas the source package remains bmpx)? Why do other think? Also, FAM is supported according to the README (ok, for the moment), I think it would be better to build against FAM, as gamin is considered obsolete in Debian (at least by the GNOME team), and a small number of packages depend on it (see apt-cache rdepends gamin libgamin0 python-gamin). I'd rather stick to it until it's changed there. http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-sharedlibs.html#s-sharedlibs-intradeps See http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=383040 for an example bug that is the fault of using this field. Yes, the field is new, and so it hasn't made it to policy yet, but there is a reason it has been added, and this is to solve a simple yet irritating problem. * Your debian/copyright is slighly lacking. You should note which files go with each copyright statement. Also there is at least one file not under the GPL, and this should be noted and it's license included. No file from that tarball under the GPL. :) Sorry, reading too quickly. There are two files with originally non-LGPL licenses, but in both cases the original license allows you to relicense. After relicensing is the whole tarball under LGPL. The file i was talking about was the public domain one. I didn't actually go and look up its license, but if it allows it to be relicensed then that license should be quoted with a mention that that is what has happened. * Add a copyright and license statement about your debian/packaging. I'd prefer not to. AFAIK, it's not mentioned in any official documentation that I should. But your packaging has copyright that belongs to you, and if you do not distribute it under a license then you are causing problems. They may not be seen as serious, but if you add two lines to debian/copyright then they can disappear completely. For what it is worth it is now included in the dh_make templates. Sounds good. I've updated the short description to Burns normalized audio CDs from lists of MP3s/WAVs/OGGs/FLACs and made small changes to the packaging based on suggestions from my other mentors.d.n upload. I built and installed the package. But when calling the program with a bunch of MP3 files or a playlist I just get Cannot find 'decoder:mp3'! Is there a dependency missing? Since mp3cd handles multiple formats, I put all the decoders in the Recommends line so that I didn't force people to install a decoder they were never going to use. However, that particular error message is pretty useless, so I've rev'd to 1.25.1, where that error now reads: Cannot find program to handle 'decoder:mp3'! Tried: mpg321, mpg123 The new version is 1.25.1-1. If you have time, can you give it another try? I haven't had time to work on it lately but I plan to do a few things to it in the near future. By all means go ahead and build a debian package. I've been meaning to do this for a while. I had then decided to wait for a new release before working on the Debian package, but it is now almost one year old. However, some even older alternatives are in the archive - see camserv as an example, whose last release was done in 2002. Hi Kevin, sorry for the new thread, I already deleted the original RFS mail. I tried your package and it builds fine. There are some remarks: * I added the year in debian/copyright, please resync your package. * you should consider to use sensible-editor instead or in addition $EDITOR in wyrdrc for your next version. * Please fix the compiler warnings.
