Well. 0.99-2 because the archive already has 0.99-1. The "+ds1" part means that it has been repackaged ("Debian Source"), and 1... well, I didn't like 0.99-2+ds ;) I've looked the Policy, but probably I missed it, and it doesn't explain what version number to use in case of a repackaged source. I've seen lots of versions (results taken from apt-cache dumpavail with some grepping): 0.5.2.1.ds-1.1 4.57~ds.1-1 2.3.0+ds1-1 I think I shouldn't use "dfsg" either, because it's not been repackaged because of non-free things or the like :) Kindly, David -- . No you should not change orig.tar.gz, it should be exactly the same as upstream provides (unless you have good reason to do so). Just delete them in clean under same condition you use for copying them from /usr/share, this way the change won't be present in diff. -- Michal Čihař | http://cihar.com | http://blog.cihar.com signature.asc Description: PGP signature

RFS: mirmon (again)
Dear mentors, I'm looking for a sponsor for my package "mirmon". It is useful for minitoring mirror servers. For example, I'm using this for monitoring Debian mirrors. see http://test.mithril-linux.org/debian-mirror-check.html * Package name: mirmon ITP : 442381 Version : 1.38 Upstream Author : Henk Penning <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> * URL : http://people.cs.uu.nl/henkp/mirmon/ * License : MIT Section : web Language: perl Description : Mirmon helps administrators in keeping an eye on the mirror sites. In a concise graphic format, mirmon shows each site's status history of the last two weeks. It is easy to spot stale or dead mirrors. It builds this binary package: mirmon - monitor the state of mirrors The package appears to be lintian clean. The package can be found on mentors.debian.net: - URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/m/mirmon - Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main - dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/m/mirmon/mirmon_1.38-1.dsc I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me. -- Regards, Hideki Yamane henrich @ debian.or.jp pgpDeRODLhVqw.pgp Description: PGP signature

Any suggestion on what versioning scheme to adopt? (obviously not 0.99~ds-1, since it wouldn't supersede the version in the archive) Kindly, David -- . ''`. Début du message réexpédié : De : Thibaut Paumard <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date : 6 février 2008 17:25:15 HNEC Objet : RFC/RFS: zerofree - zero free blocks from ext2/3 file-systems Dear mentors, I am looking for a sponsor for my package "zerofree". Hi, I just updated the package: * removed the Dm-Upload-Allowed field; * corrected a typo in the manpage. Same location, same version number. Regards, Thibaut. Note that I have set the Dm-Upload-Allowed field. This package is unrelated to the work I usually do with my sponsor Christoph Haas, which is why I prefer to ask here rather than to him. * Package name: zerofree Version : 1.0.1 Upstream Author : Ron Yorston * URL : http://intgat.tigress.co.uk/rmy/uml/ * License : GPL-2+ Programming Lang: C ITP : http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi? bug=462091 Section : admin Description: zerofree - zero free blocks from ext2/3 file-systems Zerofree finds the unallocated, non-zeroed blocks in an ext2 or ext3 file-system and fills them with zeroes. This is useful if the device on which this file-system resides is a disk image. In this case, depending on the type of disk image, a secondary utility may be able to reduce the size of the disk image after zerofree has been run. . The usual way to achieve the same result (zeroing the unallocated blocks) is to run "dd" do create a file full of zeroes that takes up the entire free space on the drive, and then delete this file. This has many disadvantages, which zerofree alleviates: * it is slow; * it makes the disk image (temporarily) grow to its maximal extent; * it (temporarily) uses all free space on the disk, so other concurrent write actions may fail. . Zerofree has been written to be run from GNU/Linux systems installed as guest OSes inside a virtual machine. If this is not your case, you almost certainly don't need this package. The package appears to be lintian and linda clean. The upload would fix this bugs: 462091 (ITP) The package can be found on my personal repository: - URL: http://www.lesia.obspm.fr/~paumard/debian/pool/main/z/zerofree/ - Source repository: deb-src http://www.lesia.obspm.fr/~paumard/ debian unstable main contrib non-free - dget http://www.lesia.obspm.fr/~paumard/debian/pool/main/z/ zerofree/zerofree_1.0.1-1.dsc I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me. I understand the ds part. Is there some reason why "0.99.ds1-2" was left out of the choices? This seems to be the practice for packages like "sysvinit" for example. The .tar.gz would then be named libx86_0.99.ds1.orig.tar.gz which is fine since it is the source which is being re-packaged by Debian.
