I'm ok with haxe adoption.
At that time I adopted it just to fix rc bugs and avoid its removal,
gnash testsuite depends on it.
At the moment, no time to maintain it nor to review adopters' packaging.
Just filed RFA bug https://bugs.debian.org/799151

* Adopt as Debian Flash Team.
+ Set maintainer to Debian Flash team, add myself to uploaders.
* Set Vcs-* fields to updated collab-maint git repo.
* Replace jquery-latest.min.js and swfobject.js with symlinks to system
  ones.
+ Remove sourceless files from upstream tarball (Closes: #736596).
  + Add libjs-jquery and libjs-swfobject runtime dependencies.
* Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.6 (no changes).

You added a +dfsg suffix. Good.

However, lintian is complaining about the +dfsg :
 debian-watch-file-should-mangle-version.

Fixed, pushed, re-uploaded.

You should update the watch file to match your change.
Please also look at repacksuffix in uscan(1).

When removing some non-free files, you should provide a get-orig-source
target in your rules file. The easiest way to remove files is to use a
DEP5 formated copyright file and to have a line Files-Excluded:. See
 uscan(1).

Yeah I've just did it few days ago for ming, convenient.

https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-flash/ming.git/commit/?id=f7531971a4dd6f37520bc3fe66421e9bea8ed396

In this case, I've changed packaging as little as possible: no new
upstream release, no format 1.0 copyright, no Files-Excluded.
Mainly just to fix RC bug #736596.

Everything else is ok to me.

It's nice that package finally fond an adoption team. :)

Well, unfortunately lately team is just me, also without upload rights.
Haxe is not flash specific software but gnash testsuite depends on it.
No problem about moving it to collab-maint if preferred.

Thanks,

Because you had to remove two files from the original tar ball, both
d/rules get-orig-source and uscan now returns an incorrect source
tarball, I mean it does contain the files you removed. I'm afraid I'm
 uncomfortable with that.

 Option 1/
Switch to dep5 with Files-Excluded:, remove the get-orig-source target.

 Option 2/
Fix the get-orig-source target to remove the files you don't want from
the orig.tar.xz. Right now, it does not do that.
There are many example in existing packages:
 https://codesearch.debian.net/results/repack.sh/page_0
Then, the watch file should contain the extra (2nd and) 3rd parameters
to call your repack script. See uscan(1).

 Option 3/
At the very least, if you absolutely don't want options 1 or 2, it would
be nice to document that in a README.source file. See policy 4.14, item
 4. I would remove the misleading get-orig-source target then.

 Or am I missing something?

Yeah, forgot to make files removal automatic somehow.
Switched to dep5. Pushed, reuploaded.

IANAL, so my opinion doesn't actually matter. :)

If you want an authoritative yes/no regarding whether this is legally
acceptable or not, debian-legal is the wrong place; you should be
 asking the ftpmasters directly instead.

I don't actually know anything about ming (and the Debian ming
packages); are php_ext/ming.{c,h} actually used to build the binary
packages? Can they be removed just like java_ext?

They can, they are both extensions but php one is packaged as php5-ming
(java_ext is not) and its popcon is around 2000.

Hi ftpmasters,

question is: Ming PHP extension (see #752629) has been relicensed in
both upstream git repo and latest tarballs released few days ago. Should
Debian be concerned about upstream contributors who haven't expressed
any agreement (yet) with license change?

Thanks for your time.

About the re-licensing of php_ext/ming.c and php_ext/php_ming.h, does

like this might be a blocker?

 [1] https://github.com/libming/libming/issues/42

I've just updated the list few hours ago, just 2 missing contributors, 4
commits. Not sure that commits in question are legally significant and
can block relicensing. Opinions? [also CC'ing d-legal]

 debian/copyright:
 - various files in e.g. src/blocks/ are also copyrighted by Klaus
Rechert, not just the specific stanzas you've listed in d/copyright
 - perl_ext/SWF/BinaryData.pm:# Copyright (c) 2009 Albrecht Kleine
 - a small portion of ch/pkgcreate.ch is Copyright 2005
 SoftIntegration, Inc., public domain
 - java_ext/* doesn't seem to be licensed under LGPL-2.1+ as claimed by
d/copyright, but under this license instead:

Thanks for spending time on d/copyright.
Just fixed what you pointed out in git.

 - debian/ming-fonts-{dejavu,opensymbol}.copyright not converted to
DEP-5; that's fine, although it's worth pointing out that
ming-fonts-opensymbol.copyright has an unversioned symlink to the
 LGPL.

Now I know that even binaries can have their own copyright file, which
replaces global one (always good?). Fixed in git.

There's a variety of other things that can be done to
improve/modernize the package, e.g. DEP-3 patch headers, conversion of
d/rules to dh shorthand, etc., but I suppose you want to tackle the
copyright/licensing issues as that's what got the package removed from
 testing in the first place?

Exactly.

Neither a clause prohibiting it. Does it really make it non-free? Any

BTW getting rid of java extension would not be a problem, currently not even

I guess unstable has been violating it since years then. And

Yes, they are usually released together. s-furniture and
s-furniture-nonfree already work this way, by packaging respectively 5

I don't recall why I didn't do multi-tarball packaging, perhaps at

Other question: why your team doesn't sponsored your package?

Probably because I didn't ask not to bother them and in this case I
wasn't in a hurry at all.
Last sweethome3d* uploads had been sponsored by Tony Mancill.
Mentors is a good place to get time from people who want to share it.

Bug#740035: RFS: sunflow and sweethome3d [DM but 1st upload to backports]

2014-02-24 Thread Gabriele Giacone
Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: wishlist

[ X-Debbugs-CC'ing tmancill who sponsored me many times lately and
d-backports@l.d.o ]

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my packages sunflow and sweethome3d.
I have DM grant for both but first upload to backports needs to be
sponsored because it passes through backports NEW queue.

To access further information about this package, please visit the
following URL:

http://mentors.debian.net/package/sunflow
http://mentors.debian.net/package/sweethome3d

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget.

  dget -x
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/s/sweethome3d/sweethome3d_4.3+dfsg-1~bpo70+1.dsc
  dget -x
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/s/sunflow/sunflow_0.07.2.svn396+dfsg-10~bpo70+1.dsc

Remember to rebuild them with -v option as requested for backports.

  sunflow: -v3.5+dfsg-1
  sweethome3d: -v0.07.2.svn396+dfsg-9

Plus, sunflow would need to be uploaded first, sweethome3d depends on it (not
sure whether uploading sweethome3d first would be a real problem).

Thanks,

A few more comments now that I've had a chance to take a closer look
 at this package (somewhat nitpicky):
 - Your package contains a .gitignore file that wasn't there before
(this sticks out like a sore thumb with debdiff)
 - Please close #724417 in d/changelog (the automake related build-dep update)
 - I'd actually recommend splitting out the ungif linking patch from
03_py_ext (and as an added bonus, include a DEP-3 header with this new
 patch)

Stuart, assuming you have no objections (or if you don't respond),
I'll be uploading this to the delayed queue once the above issues are
 fixed.

Reuploaded, pushed changes.
Thanks for your time.

So I have got a problem, upstream has localization files in po/ directory.
When make is called, it traverses to po/ and also calls make, then .po files

Unfortunately, debuild when using quilt 3.0 format crashes with message that
upstream has changed. Is there a way to somehow ignore these files in
debuild. I cannot do dpkg-source --commit because these file would be
 updated anyway in every build.

2012-11-25 Thread Gabriele Giacone
Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: wishlist

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package pidgin-skype

 * Package name: pidgin-skype
   Version : 20121121+svn646+dfsg-1
Upstream Author : Eion Robb eionr...@gmail.com
 * URL : https://code.google.com/p/skype4pidgin/
 * License : GPL-3+
   Section : contrib/net

It builds those binary packages:

empathy-skype - Skype plugin for libpurple messengers (Empathy-specific files)
[NEW]
pidgin-skype - Skype plugin for libpurple messengers (Pidgin-specific files)
pidgin-skype-common - Skype plugin for libpurple messengers (common files)
[NEW]
pidgin-skype-dbg - Skype plugin for libpurple messengers (debug symbols)

dget -x
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/contrib/p/pidgin-skype/pidgin-skype_20121121+svn646+dfsg-1.dsc

I split p-s binary into p-s-common which actually contains libpurple
plugins, p-s for pidgin theme and icons and empathy-s for empathy icons.
Thus it needs to pass through NEW queue.

Could anyone please upload it for me?

Thanks,

Uhm. I don't think this meant that way. Instead you should ask your
previous DMUA sponsor(s) individually for the package(s) they advocated you.

I don't think it'd be better bothering several DDs instead of only one
who should just check I've kept uploading almost all packages more or
less frequently.

But yes, I'll do that way if I get no response here. More mails, more
people involved, more time each one of them should find to convert
permissions.

haxe would be the only missing test tool.
If I won't find any sponsor, I'll re-orphan them.

It also seems orig.tar is missing. Last week I faced the same issue (no

Be sure to pass -sa to dpkg-buildpackage.

0.11.2-1 in unstable.

2.) Your patch debian/patches/01errno doesn't have any header explaining
where it came from (backported from upstream, self invented) and no notion
whether or not it was reported back upstream which it should have. I'm
sure upstream will like to have it unless they haven't already come up
with that solution in SVN/CVS/Git (in which case you can just refer to
 that specific commit)
It's self invented, fixes build process and upstream has been informed
with a private email.

3.) You edit debian/changelog for past entries. This should not be done. As
the edit is minor I'll leave it as is.
Truth is hoexter (0.11.1-1 uploader) made such change [0] before
uploading and I didn't port it back to my git repo. Result: not present
in 0.11.2-1.
For non-reviewers: we are talking about no changes needed present or
not after Bump Standards Version to std-ver.

 Built, Signed, Uploaded.
Thank you both.
No one set DMUA flag so see you next upstream release :)

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package obexpushd.

* Package name: obexpushd
  Version : 0.11.1-1
Upstream Author : Hendrik Sattler p...@hendrik-sattler.de
* URL : http://www.hendrik-sattler.de/devel/obexpushd/
* License : GPL-2+
  Section : comm

It builds these binary packages:
obexpushd - program for receiving files via Bluetooth or IRDA

The package is lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 592270

I adopted it one upload ago and the sponsor, one of the sponsors before
adoption, is not so willing to upload it once again.
The package is tiny and easy to maintain.
I added DMUA flag but please remove it (d/changelog entry as well) if
you don't trust me.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- - URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/o/obexpushd
- - Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable
main contrib non-free
- - dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/o/obexpushd/obexpushd_0.11.1-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards
 Gabriele Giacone

Renamed.

 3) ${xpi:Recommends} (= 3.6) doesn't work, because multiple items
could be generated. If you want versioned Recommends, mozilla-devscripts
 needs to be adjusted.
It generates Recommends: iceweasel (= 3.6) which seems to be ok. What
multiple items do you mean in this case?

It depends on your build system (Debian vs Ubuntu) and on the
install.xpi file. For example, adblock-plus has iceweasel | icedove |
iceape | conkeror in Recommends. Don't rely that it will always be one
item. Use Recommends: iceweasel (= 3.6), ${xpi:Recommends} or file a
 wishlist bug against mozilla-devscripts.

Probably you meant install.rdf.
I was forgetting that we're also packaging it for ubuntu and was
hardcoding just iceweasel (= 3.6) while you'd prefer adding
unversioned ${xpi:Recommends}.
On ubuntu, would this xpi generate more than one Recommends? If it would
not, I'd set back initial ${xpi:Recommends} (= 3.6) which should work
on both worlds and postpone further changes to next upstream release or
until anyone closes the bug I just filed http://bugs.debian.org/602051
Maybe you'll close such bug before I find a sponsor.

I'm working with Debian, and I'm not a DM, DD or anything. Therefore
saying that the latter is always true is wrong. However, your bias is
clearly noted. Also wrong, but noted.

For the latter, I mean When Debian fixes something, we benefit and
such fixes _always_ go to ubuntu when sync runs.
On the contrary, when something is fixed on ubuntu just _sometimes_ it's
sent back to Debian.

 Anyway, renamed.

You're having trouble following the rules. I'm going to CC the Debian
Group to see if they could help you.

 I quote:

The binary package's name should be xul-ext-ext with ext being the
 extension's name. E.g. xul-ext-nostalgy for Icedove's nostalgy
 extension.

( as was noted before at http://wiki.debian.org/Mozilla/ExtensionsPolicy )

You should rename the package to fix Debian's conventions.

Mails from M.Shuler in this thread will help you.
If you don't want to read not even them, we're talking about source
package name.

You should also consider being nicer to people and sister projects.
Such unjustified and blind hate is not proper. It makes me not want to
 help you, at all.

Given that you're interested in ubuntu packages, you could have learnt
what happens if source package name already exists and how to manage
that on ubuntu side: I guess blacklisting as requested by Luca then
probably renaming to ubiquity-whatever. How about time spent doing that
rename instead of writing to d-mentors?
I would have considered that as your love of ubuntu.
More love of ubuntu could also be adding some ubuntu-related ubiquity
extension commands as Filippo and others did for debian ones [1].

[removed rant]

That harsh attitude towards people trying to help you certainly makes
your request for sponsoring look really good. Well done.

I would read what you quote even in this way: Ubuntu is a Debian
derivative not the contrary. Why should we rename source packages if
their name already exists in derivatives? For NEW packages, should we
check in ~140 derivatives? Or should derivatives manage that?. You know
my position.

I don't like discriminating among them eg. I look at DDPOs with
ubuntu=0. Does anyone know how not to display derivs info on PTS?

Regarding sponsors, I hope they are interested in this package, not in
the packager. Unfortunately, I need a sponsor and I don't intent to
apply to NM process yet. Probably when I feel ready to do it, Debian
will already completely be assimilated by uborg.

Why do you install startup script to usr/share/sweethome3d and create

I already did it for jxplorer: link without .sh extension under /usr/bin

Before I get to build the package and see what the binary package
actually looks like, a small nitpick that would be better to fix before
the package gets in the NEW queue: The copyright file references
xulrunner which is maybe not really accurate, but more importantly,
references the mozilla files as if they were at the root of the upstream
tarball, when they really are in a mozilla/ subdirectory.

I'll follow up about the binary packages later, on the pkg-mozilla list
 only.

Actually, I'm following up on both lists. The binary package looks fine
from my point of view, but I would appreciate if someone from the
-mentors crowd could actually test it (don't worry, even if the source
is big, it compiles really quickly).

Apart from the above note about the copyright file, I think this package

No and yes. There are no 0.3 binary releases but I found this [1]: 7
weeks ago, 0.3.0.3 became 0.3.0.7. We could change 0.3 in 0.3.0.7 or we

Hi Rogerio,

Rogério Brito wrote:
I think that there are other packages in the archive that include this

[...]
The samething here. I, for instance, use libssl-dev for a package of
mine (hfsprogs) that needs sha1 implementations.

You may also consider using the gnutls implmentation of those. A small
patch to adapt those might be very fruitful.

Also, when the libraries providing the functions get improvements (like,
for instance, specialized versions optimized for some newer CPU arch),
you get those for for your programs. And maintenance becomes easier.

The question was about licenses because if they were ok I would build as is.
This is the scenario:
the application I'm packaging [1] includes and depends on a class
library [2], a bunch of classes for many purposes, which includes and
depends on those sha1/md5 implementations.
I already tried both openssl-dev and gnutls but function names change
and I should patch the code. I would try other ways.
An alternative way could be removing them from build process given that,
class library is a collection of classes but it seems that main
application doesn't use those md5/sha1-related classes.

Any license points of view?

Gabriele

RFS: instantbird

2009-12-11 Thread Gabriele Giacone
Dear mentors,

* Package name: instantbird

Upstream Author : Florian Quèze flor...@instantbird.org
* URL : http://www.instantbird.com/
* License : Mozilla tri-license MPL1.1/GPL2.0/LGPL2.1
  Section : net

It builds these binary packages:
instantbird - instant messaging client based on XULrunner and libpurple

The upload would fix these bugs: 495736 (ITP)

My motivation for maintaining this package is:
I consider it a young but interesting project with a great potential
thanks to Mozilla XULrunner (UI,addons) and libpurple (multiprotocol)
It uses Debian XULrunner (1.9.1.5) and a strongly modified libpurple.
At the moment, building it with system libpurple is not possible.
Security team suggests to upload it in unstable but filing a blocker RC
bug to prevent inclusion in squeeze and then providing unofficial
squeeze backports. At the same time, somebody could try to patch
instantbird to make possible a build with system libpurple.
Further info in email below and here [1]
I would be glad if someone reviewed this package once again and possibly
 uploaded it for me.

Libpurple is often affected by security issues (fixed through

no explicit license on upstream

2009-12-04 Thread Gabriele Giacone
Hello,
I'm packaging iSpy [1]. ITP [2] gives a brief description.
Upstream tarball is here [3].
Unpacking it, ispy application is under ispy directory.
Under the remaining directories, you can find a bunch of dependencies
which are already in Debian.
Good.
My question is about licenses: dependencies have been licensed well
otherwise they would not be in Debian but ispy directory and ispy
website resources don't explicitly refer to a specific license.
Should upstream create a LICENSE file? Or a manifest/disclaimer on
download page would be better? Or 1 and 2?

Below some iSpy developers thoughts. (I CCed them, please CC them)
[...]
The bits that cannot be considered a derivative product of any GPL
software I guess are BSD licensed, given that all the contributors
are contractors of the US DoE and **I think** that's the policy there.
This is a rough guess and no one really ever looked into it.

Work of U.S. federal government employees is in public domain says
 http://www.fsf.org/licensing/licenses/gpl-faq.html#GPLUSGov. We are
technically contractors and my understanding is that particular rule
doesn't apply as such. Off the top of my head I don't recall whether
some other agreement exists at project level (e.g. US-CMS).

 (a) libitext-java
 (b) libvecmath-java
 (c) libjava3d-java

(e) is in Debian with version 0.07.2 (latest upstream release) but
sweethome3d needs 0.07.3b which is the latest svn snapshot (last
change 20 months ago). I asked to sunflow maintainer [3] if it is

 - tarball contains svn version
 - debian/copyright is in DEP-5 format
 - source package format is 3.0 (quilt) (the only lintian error)
 - PNGs didn't change. I'm trying to contact the icons creator asking him
to release also SVGs in question. It seems to be possible as he already
did for others [1]. Public domain would be better than CC-BY-NC-SA, am
 I wrong?

 Errors/suggestions?

 Thanks
 Best regards
 Gabriele

RFS: pidgin-skype

2009-11-02 Thread Gabriele Giacone

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "pidgin-skype".

* Package name : pidgin-skype
 Version : 0.1-1
Upstream Author : Eion Robb eionr...@gmail.com
* URL : http://eion.robbmob.com/
* License : GPLv3
 Section : contrib/net

It builds these binary packages:
pidgin-skype - Skype plugin for Pidgin

This is the Skype API Plugin for Pidgin/libpurple/Adium. If you're
already running Skype, you can have your Skype contacts displayed with
your Pidgin/libpurple/Adium contacts. It is intended as a complete
replacement for the Skype user interface, hopefully everything you can
do in Skype you can do with this plugin.

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/contrib/p/pidgin-skype
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable
main contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/contrib/p/pidgin-skype/pidgin-skype_0.1-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards
Gabriele Giacone
