At that time I adopted it just to fix rc bugs and avoid its removal, gnash testsuite depends on it. At the moment, no time to maintain it nor to review adopters' packaging. You added a +dfsg suffix. Good. However, lintian is complaining about the +dfsg : debian-watch-file-should-mangle-version. Fixed, pushed, re-uploaded. You should update the watch file to match your change. Please also look at repacksuffix in uscan(1). When removing some non-free files, you should provide a get-orig-source target in your rules file. The easiest way to remove files is to use a DEP5 formated copyright file and to have a line Files-Excluded:. See uscan(1). Yeah I've just did it few days ago for ming, convenient. https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-flash/ming.git/commit/?id=f7531971a4dd6f37520bc3fe66421e9bea8ed396 In this case, I've changed packaging as little as possible: no new upstream release, no format 1.0 copyright, no Files-Excluded. Mainly just to fix RC bug #736596. Everything else is ok to me. It's nice that package finally fond an adoption team. :) Well, unfortunately lately team is just me, also without upload rights. Haxe is not flash specific software but gnash testsuite depends on it. No problem about moving it to collab-maint if preferred. On Fri, May 22, 2015 at 01:05:16PM +, Jean-Michel Vourgère wrote: Cool, but I think your are missing my point. Because you had to remove two files from the original tar ball, both d/rules get-orig-source and uscan now returns an incorrect source tarball, I mean it does contain the files you removed. I'm afraid I'm uncomfortable with that. Option 1/ Switch to dep5 with Files-Excluded:, remove the get-orig-source target. Option 2/ Fix the get-orig-source target to remove the files you don't want from the orig.tar.xz. Right now, it does not do that. There are many example in existing packages: https://codesearch.debian.net/results/repack.sh/page_0 Then, the watch file should contain the extra (2nd and) 3rd parameters to call your repack script. See uscan(1). Option 3/ At the very least, if you absolutely don't want options 1 or 2, it would be nice to document that in a README.source file. See policy 4.14, item 4. I would remove the misleading get-orig-source target then. Or am I missing something? Yeah, forgot to make files removal automatic somehow. Switched to dep5. I don't actually know anything about ming (and the Debian ming packages); are php_ext/ming.{c,h} actually used to build the binary packages? Can they be removed just like java_ext? There's a variety of other things that can be done to improve/modernize the package, e.g. DEP-3 patch headers, conversion of d/rules to dh shorthand, etc., but I suppose you want to tackle the copyright/licensing issues as that's what got the package removed from testing in the first place? Instead you should ask your previous DMUA sponsor(s) individually for the package(s) they advocated you. I don't think it'd be better bothering several DDs instead of only one who should just check I've kept uploading almost all packages more or less frequently. For example, adblock-plus has iceweasel | icedove | iceape | conkeror in Recommends. Don't rely that it will always be one item. Use Recommends: iceweasel (= 3.6), ${xpi:Recommends} or file a wishlist bug against mozilla-devscripts. Probably you meant install.rdf. I was forgetting that we're also packaging it for ubuntu and was hardcoding just iceweasel (= 3.6) while you'd prefer adding unversioned ${xpi:Recommends}. I, for instance, use libssl-dev for a package of mine (hfsprogs) that needs sha1 implementations. You may also consider using the gnutls implmentation of those. A small patch to adapt those might be very fruitful. Also, when the libraries providing the functions get improvements (like, for instance, specialized versions optimized for some newer CPU arch), you get those for for your programs. And maintenance becomes easier. The question was about licenses because if they were ok I would build as is. This is the scenario: the application I'm packaging [1] includes and depends on a class library [2], a bunch of classes for many purposes, which includes and depends on those sha1/md5 implementations. I already tried both openssl-dev and gnutls but function names change and I should patch the code. I would try other ways. An alternative way could be removing them from build process given that, class library is a collection of classes but it seems that main application doesn't use those md5/sha1-related classes. Any license points of view? RFS: instantbird
Dear mentors, I am looking for a sponsor for my package instantbird. * Package name: instantbird Version : 0.2b1-1 Upstream Author : Florian Quèze flor...@instantbird.org * URL : http://www.instantbird.com/ * License : Mozilla tri-license MPL1.1/GPL2.0/LGPL2.1 Section : net It builds these binary packages: instantbird - instant messaging client based on XULrunner and libpurple The upload would fix these bugs: 495736 (ITP) My motivation for maintaining this package is: I consider it a young but interesting project with a great potential thanks to Mozilla XULrunner (UI,addons) and libpurple (multiprotocol) It uses Debian XULrunner (1.9.1.5) and a strongly modified libpurple. At the moment, building it with system libpurple is not possible. Security team suggests to upload it in unstable but filing a blocker RC bug to prevent inclusion in squeeze and then providing unofficial squeeze backports. At the same time, somebody could try to patch instantbird to make possible a build with system libpurple. Further info in email below and here [1] I would be glad if someone reviewed this package once again and possibly uploaded it for me. The package can be found on mentors.debian.net: - URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/i/instantbird - Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main contrib non-free - dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/i/instantbird/instantbird_0.2b1-1.dsc Kind regards Gabriele Giacone [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-security/2009/11/threads.html#00033 Original Message Subject: Re: instantbird: modified libpurple Date: Wed, 25 Nov 2009 19:03:47 +0100 From: Moritz Muehlenhoff j...@inutil.org To: Gabriele Giacone losga...@libero.it CC: secur...@debian.org, Mike Hommey m...@glandium.org References: 4b036cc5.7050...@libero.it On Wed, Nov 18, 2009 at 04:40:53AM +0100, Gabriele Giacone wrote: Dear security team, I'm trying to package instantbird [1], an instant messaging client based on Mozilla xulrunner and libpurple. Regarding libpurple, upstream uses a modified version and at the moment it is not possible to build instantbird with system libpurple. The email I forward you contains the instantbird developer explanation and Mike Hommey thoughts. Is it a problem? If you want to take a look at my package, [2] Mike, [2] is the version after your first review. Thanks to all Gabriele Giacone I have no objections against uploading it to unstable, but I'm reluctant to include such a early release into Squeeze (so maybe just file a blocker RC bug and provide unofficial Squeeze backports. Libpurple is often affected by security issues (fixed through Pidgin) and it would be nice if instantbird upstream can work towards using the standard libpurple until Squeeze+1. no explicit license on upstream
Hello, I'm packaging iSpy [1]. ITP [2] gives a brief description. Upstream tarball is here [3]. Unpacking it, ispy application is under ispy directory. Under the remaining directories, you can find a bunch of dependencies which are already in Debian. Good. My question is about licenses: dependencies have been licensed well otherwise they would not be in Debian but ispy directory and ispy website resources don't explicitly refer to a specific license. Should upstream create a LICENSE file? Or a manifest/disclaimer on download page would be better? Or 1 and 2? Below some iSpy developers thoughts. (I CCed them, please CC them) [...] The bits that cannot be considered a derivative product of any GPL software I guess are BSD licensed, given that all the contributors are contractors of the US DoE and **I think** that's the policy there. This is a rough guess and no one really ever looked into it. Work of U.S. federal government employees is in public domain says http://www.fsf.org/licensing/licenses/gpl-faq.html#GPLUSGov. We are technically contractors and my understanding is that particular rule doesn't apply as such. Off the top of my head I don't recall whether some other agreement exists at project level (e.g. US-CMS). RFS: java3d-fileloader
Dear mentors, Dear Java people, I'm packaging sweethome3d [1], a java application which depends on many libraries, all open source and released under DSFG-compatible licenses: (a) libitext-java (b) libvecmath-java (c) libjava3d-java (d) freehep-vectorgraphics-svg (e) sunflow (f) Java3D 3DS FileLoader (a),(b),(c) are already in Debian. Giovanni Mascellani is packaging vectorgraphics [2], a suite of graphic libraries including (d) and I'm trying to help him. (e) is in Debian with version 0.07.2 (latest upstream release) but sweethome3d needs 0.07.3b which is the latest svn snapshot (last change 20 months ago). I asked to sunflow maintainer [3] if it is possible to package it and he told me at the moment he could upload it in experimental (better than nothing). And now (f). It's a loader for file in 3D Studio format [4] by Microcrowd under LGPL * Package name: java3ds-fileloader Version : 1.2-1 Upstream Author : Microcrowd t...@microcrowd.com * URL : http://www.microcrowd.com * License : LGPL Section : java It builds these binary packages: java3ds-fileloader - Java3DS 3DS FileLoader The package appears to be lintian clean.
