FWIW I run runit 2.1.2-59 and runit-services together with elogind 255.5-2 on two Devuan Ceres systems with KDE's Plasma desktop. One I had patched manually, but I made sure the package version of the run dir for elogind was installed after the upgrade. The other one was upgraded regularly from elogind 252 and older runit / runit-services packages. Runsvdir starts elogind correctly from the new path. I also reviewed the changes to the package for the updated path for elogind and I think they are correct. I am certainly no expert with runit, but as I contributed zcfan service dir at least I know something. Devuan uses the upstream packages for runit, runit-services, dash, bash so I expect that runit-services 0.7.2 will work just fine on Debian, too. It would unbreak running elogind for runit users that did not patch their systems manually already. I bet most of them did by now, as many desktop environments do not work well, if at all, without some systemd-logind replacement. And the timeouts with login into a TTY or SSH session without some systemd-logind replacement are quite annoying as well. Sure we are still talking about a (small) minority of Debian users here. Hope this helps regarding the review of the package and the sponsoring. In case any further changes need to be tested before upload, I am willing to do that. Best, -- Martin

As the package in new in Debian, the packaging year must be 2014. This is wrong. Andrey, Not wrong. The package is in first upload. 2014. Can you explain how is this related to copyright years for work done prior to uploading? Please, don't interfer in my revision without a strong motive. I think pointing at errors when someone tells others to do wrong things is quite important. So what is it now, and why? :) The initial package exists since 2013. So is it the date when I did the initial packaging? Then its 2013. Is it the date where the package may get uploaded, then it may be 2014 or 2015. Or is it, as would make most sense to me the years I actually worked on the packaging, then its 2013-2014 as I have it currently. I don't see any clear guidelines in: https://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/copyright-format/1.0/ https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-docs.html#s-copyrightfile While 4.2 in new maintainer guide has a date range in the example: 13 Files: debian/* 14 Copyright: 1998-2010 Josip Rodin joy...@debian.org 15 License: GPL-2+ https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/maint-guide/dreq.de.html#copyright So right now I do not see any evidence for which variant is right, i.e. policy conforming. Bug#712787: Current status of distkeys packaging
Hello! Current status of the packaging is: I finally finished converting distkeys to be a non native package. I used git- buildpackage repo layout with upstream branch for upstream source and master branch for Debian packaging. Package is lintian clean, except for debian/watch file which I consider to be unnecessary in this case (we are upstream and packagers). I think it is ready for an initial review. I filed an ITP bug as well – waiting for bug number, but if filed with Message with no Package: tag cannot be processed while is has Package: wnpp as its first line. I try to get that resolved and post bug number then. Source, including packaging source, is also hosted with Github: https://github.com/teamix/distkeys For now I try to keep both repositories in sync, but I think I will switch VCS to Github prior to any release to Debian. I've no good idea myself how xz works internally but if I recall the threads on d-d correctly about making xz the default a compression level above 6 was deemed way too much. I think even lower levels were proposed as a Debian default when xz will be the default compression method. xz is already the default. I don't think micromanaging the compressor in every package is a good idea, especially for a regular package without special needs. Setting it on openclipart (big, no gain) or linux-image-dbg (big and highly compressible) is worth the effort, using something non-standard on a random package is not -- and will bring us extra work if some policy changes. So let's not muck with compression settings without a good reason. It seems that Sven has already uploaded the package. Upstream maintainer Jens Axboe told me that he likely releases a fio 2.12 this week, which has some patches merged I currently carry in the package. I suggest that I remove the compression setting then and do another RFS. Would that be okay with you? It can use port forwarding to reach servers behind a gateway. It can execute commands or scripts, scp files and run interactive SSH sessions one after another. Currently it only works with Ruby 1.8 (which is mentioned in README). I made this as a native package before I read a FAQ on mentors.debian.net to rather use non-native package in case the software can be useful for other distribution. If really needed I'd try to convert it to a non-native one. But I'd prefer to keep debian directory with upstream sources if possible, cause we are both upstream and packagers. Hi! I updated my fio debian package to 2.0.8 of fio. My usual sponsors Sebastian 'tokkee' Harl and Michael Prokop seem to be missing in action. The package is already in the repository and has been reviewed by both Michael initially and Sebastian for latest 1.x versions. Can somebody review my updates and upload? tokkee, Michael, please yell now should you now have time to sponsor the package. ;) Thanks, -- Martin Steigerwald - teamix GmbH - http://www.teamix.de gpg: 19E3 8D42 896F D004 08AC A0CA 1E10 C593 0399 AE90 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-mentors-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I kinda doubt that, I guess they're just busy as everyone else is. :) Well, yes. Thats what I meant. Sorry for the confusion. Can somebody review my updates and upload? Where could one pick up the package for review? Couldn't find it on mentors.d.n nor a bugreport associated with sponsorship-request. I'd guess you've usually worked through the collab-maint git repo? Yes. Its at: Vcs-Git: git://git.debian.org/git/collab-maint/fio.git Vcs-Browser: http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/fio.git All branches are tagged at 2.0.8 - but I didn´t do any more recent changes anyway for now - and ready for gbp-clone. If you wish I can upload package including dsc file somewhere. Short round of nitpicking the wrong way ;) at what I've found in the git repo. 1) I see no point in listing changes from 2.0.7 and that you've undone them with 2.0.8 because they're fixed in 2.0.8 upstream in the debian/changelog. Those back and forth changes are documented in the VCS history. In my opinion that's enough if someone cares, because they never hit the archive anyway. Ok, I will remove those. 2) It's rather non-obvious that you patch the DPKG_EXPORT_BUILDFLAGS into the upstream makefile instead of debian/rules. Haven't seen that before and I'm not sure what to think of such tactics. Anyway you have to build depend on dpkg-dev (= 1.16.1~) because of the makefile snippet you include. I will change that as well. I just didn´t have the idea to use debian/rules for that. Sounds cleaner that way and I do not need an extra patch this way. 3) I'd skip the capital letters in the short description. It's shortened to fio everywhere else and somewhere in the dev-ref it's mentioned that it's not sentence and thus should not start with a capital letter. Fair enough. Rest seems to be ok at a first glance, though that version jump is a bit late in the release cycle. :-/ Well I already tried to get fio 2.0.7 sponsored ;). I am using the 2.0.7 for quite a while already and think it is fine. If you want test fio for yourself a short 4-minute test is in /usr/share/doc/fio/examples/ssd-test. Just adapt directory in the job file. regarding the code to test from Carl-Valentin Schmitt
I am not subscribed to this list. Hi! I suggest you not to put any more energy into it - in case you didn´t already notice yourself. From what I have seen from Carl-Valentin Schmitt - whether that is his real name or not I do not know - on debian-user-german[1], kernel-testers mailinglist[2] and elsewhere for example about a hack of having a password that is one terabyte long, I do not have the impression that it is reasonable to expect any code from him to do anything useful. I would also be reluctant about the usefulness of his other posts - except for some amusement. At least not based on the posts I have seen from him so far. And it is not that we - quite some experienced debian-user-german readers - didn´t try to teach him some useful stuff about Debian and Linux initially. [1] I think one thread should be enough as an example: e-mail verpasst wegen github http://lists.debian.org/debian-user-german/2012/02/msg00645.html (in german tough) [2] holy bim-bam ! kernels obviously have no bugs ! http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel.kernel-testers/11600 Thanks, -- Martin 'Helios' Steigerwald - http://www.Lichtvoll.de GPG: 03B0 0D6C 0040 0710 4AFA B82F 991B EAAC A599 84C7 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-mentors-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
