In a nutshell, if I understood correctly the debian policy

Branch debian/latest
File debian/changelog will show "...(3.0.0-1) unstable ..."

Branch debian/bullseye-backports
File debian/changelog will show "... (3.0.0-1~bpo11u1) bullseye ..."

Should I decide to setup a private repository on top to speed up things
, I could add a new branch to my git repository:
Branch debian/bullseye
File debian/changelog would show "... (3.0.0-1~deb11u1) ..."

Maintaining a package across several debian codenames

2023-04-10 Thread Robin ALEXANDER
Hi,

Let's assume I wish to maintain package_A across unstable and bullseye-
backports. I understand from
https://dep-team.pages.debian.net/deps/dep14/ that:

1. I need to create 3 branches in my git repository:
- upstream/latest
- debian/latest
- debian/bullseye-backports

2. Since I am using git-buildpackage, I presume I would generate 3 tags
when creating a new package version (ex: v3.0.0)
- upstream/3.0.0 (when running gbp import-orig)
- debian/3.0.0-1 (when running gbp buildpackage inside branch
debian/latest)
- ??? (when running gbp buildpackage inside branch debian/bullseye-
backports)

If the above is correct, what should be the name of the last tag (the
one issued by gbp buildpackage inside branch debian/bullseye-backports
?

Thank you for your help.

I believe that the git repository is now setup (branches and tags) the
way it is supposed to be as per our previous conversation.

Please, note that I did not push the package to mentors.debian.net yet.
I will probably do it later, once bookworm is released.

Re: Creating packages for several distributions

2023-03-22 Thread Robin Alexander

Hi Mechtilde and Andrey,

Got it for the official debian repository. In a nutshell:
 - Push to mentors once the freeze is released (ie, after bookworm is
released)
 - Once package in unstable/testing, push a backport to stable and
oldstable

Got it as well for the number of versions:
 - Keep 1 branch per repository/distribution:
   * debian/latest: debian official repository and unstable
   * debian/bullseye: debian official repository and bullseye
   * odr/latest: odr repository and unstable
   * odr/bullseye: odr repository and bullseye

Thanks.

Creating packages for several distributions

2023-03-22 Thread Robin Alexander

Hi,

I am in charge of creating debian packages for the Opendigitalradio
mmbtools (https://www.opendigitalradio.org/mmbtools) and as such, I:

  - am proposing/pushing debian packages to unstable
  - manage the Opendigitalradio debian repository
(http://debian.opendigitalradio.org)

If I want to create a package (ex: odr-audioenc) for both unstable and
bullseye on both debian and odr repository, can I have 1
debian/changelog file only where the first line would read:

odr-audioenc (3.3.1-1+deb11u1) unstable bullseye; urgency=medium

or do I need 2 versions of debian/changelog (thus 2 branches:
debian/bullseye + debian/latest): one for each distribution (unstable
and bullseye)?

Thank you for your help.

Hi Robin,

Here is my review of this package:

* Remove debian/patches directory - you do not have any patches to apply
* debian/changelog: Remove all changelog entries and just have 1 with
Initial packaging, closing the ITP bug. This is the first time this
package has been uploaded to Debian, so there are no changes to report.
* debian/control: Standards version can drop the .1 at the end - just
need to track up to the patch version. Also update to 4.6.1

* debian/rules: DEB_CFLAGS_MAINT_APPEND has a double space after it
* debian/copyright:
    - m4/ax_check_compile_flag.m4 - this licence text is not listed in
d/copyright. The file is listed, but the licence text in the file does
not match the licence text in d/copyright

    - The comment should be removed (xml and html files)

There is currently a false-positive lintian error that should be added
to debian/source/lintian-overrides:

Hi Paul,

I need to talk with the person in charge of the upstream odr-audioenc to
see whether he could push his changes to the original project.

In the meantime, I pushed odr-audioenc to mentors
(https://mentors.debian.net/package/odr-audioenc/) and I have 2
questions regarding the ouptut of lintian:

1. Why didn't the "source-is-missing" error show on my environment
(prior to push the package with dput)? Is there a specific lintian setup
that I missed? FYI, my packaging environment runs on bullseye (I tried
sid yesterday, but somehow there was a problem with one missing package
that was preventing apt upgrade and install)

2. The "source-is-missing" error is actually not a missing file but a
file (libtoolame-dab/html/psycho.html) with too-long lines. Is there any
action I must take to make lintian happy or can the package be accepted
"as-is" ?

Have a nice week-end

If the package itself is otherwise free, you want contrib not non-free.
The library will go to non-free of course though.

I'm not sure, but I think it would be best to change it, as
documentation of the changes done based on ftp-master feedback.

Yes.

can I delete the repository on salsa and re-create it again before
pushing the package?

Yes, the git repo isn't very relevant here.

Bug#1008882: RFS: odr-audioenc/3.2.0-1 [ITP] -- DAB and DAB+ encoder that integrates into the ODR-mmbTools

2022-10-19 Thread Robin Alexander

Hi,

My package odr-audioenc was rejected after it reached the NEW queue
because one of the library it depends on does not belong to "main" but
to "non-free". I therefore need to change the section in file
debian/control from "hamradio" to "non-free/hamradio" and submit the
package again.

Questions:

- Do I need to change the package release from 1 to 2 because of this
debian/control file change or can I keep the same package release, given
that the package never made it to unstable

- Can I take the opportunity of this change to include the latest
upstream version?

- When I initially created the repository in salsa.debian.org, I was not
very familiar with git-buildpackage and I believe that branches and tags
are not compliant (you can compare
https://salsa.debian.org/ralex/odr-audioenc with
https://github.com/opendigitalradio/debian-audioenc). If the version on
github is indeed compliant with the debian standards, can I delete the
repository on salsa and re-create it again before pushing the package?

Thank you very much in advance for your support.

Bug#1009867: RFS: odr-dabmux/4.2.1-1 [ITP] -- Digital Audio Broadcasting multiplexer compliant to ETSI EN 300 401

2022-07-19 Thread Robin ALEXANDER
Hi Adam,

Thank you very much for having considered the odr-dabmux package.
I spotted the error (wrong build dependency) and pushed the corrected
version to mentors. Since the package was never published I didn't
change the version.

Could you please give it a new try? If it works, I guess you will be
the one pushing the package to the NEW queue; is that right?

If you have some time left, could you please also consider package odr-
dabmod? This is the last main package of the Opendigitalradio mmbtools.
The other 2 (odr-padenc and odr-audioenc were already pushed to the NEW
queue)

Kind regards.

Bug#1010004: RFS: odr-dabmod/2.6.0-1 [ITP] -- DAB modulator compliant to ETSI EN 300 401

2022-05-02 Thread Robin ALEXANDER
Hi Bastian,

I just realized that I need to make a slight change to file
debian/rules by calling dh_auto_configure with an additional argument
in order to avoid compiling odr-dabmod with the option "-march=native".

Since the odr-dabmod package was not moved to the NEW queue yet, can I
just reload the package with the updated debian/rules file or do I also
need to modify file debian/changelog indicating the change on
debian/rules? In the latter case, do I need to change the package
version (ie. moving to 2.6.0-2 from 2.6.0-1)?

Have a nice week.

Bug#1010004: RFS: odr-dabmod/2.6.0-1 [ITP] -- DAB modulator compliant to ETSI EN 300 401

2022-04-29 Thread Robin ALEXANDER
Hi Bastian,

Thank you for your answer: it is crystal clear!

As I wrote to you, I:
  1. Uploaded on Wednesday (April 27) the corrected versions of odr-
dabmux (https://mentors.debian.net/package/odr-dabmux/) and odr-dabmod
(https://mentors.debian.net/package/odr-dabmod/)

  2. Removed the moreinfo tag on odr-dabmux
(https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1009867) and odr-
dabmod (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1010004)

Assuming I did everything correctly, is there anything else I must do
to have these 2 packages pushed to the NEW queue (like what was done
with odr-padenc)? Or is it the sponsor/you who pushes the packages to
the NEW queue by closing the above 2 bugs (1009867 and 1010004) ?

Kind regards.

Bug#1010004: RFS: odr-dabmod/2.6.0-1 [ITP] -- DAB modulator compliant to ETSI EN 300 401

2022-04-27 Thread Robin ALEXANDER
Hi Bastian,

thank you very much. I followed your instructions and uploaded again
both odr-dabmod (Bug#1010004) and odr-dabmux (Bug#1009867). I also
removed the tag "moreinfo" on both bugs (hoping I did it right).

I now have 1 question. When I built these packages, debuild generated
the xxx_amd64.changes files. Why do I have "amd64" in the filename (I
understand it relates to the X86_64 architecture)?
For your information, the source is mainly C++ based and it compiles
properly under arm64 and arm/v7 as well. Should I have ran debuild in a
different manner or is it going to be taken care of by the debian
packaging process later on?

Kind regards.
