the fix for #491730 moves the library to a new location. yes, this new
location is correct. but the problem with that is that some scripts
will still be trying to load it at the old location. uploading this
will probably break the (probably modified to account for the
incorrect location of xmlsimple) versions of activesupport and rails
in Debian, so unless you are coordinating very closely with those
maintainers, this new version could cause problems. Also, anybody who
is using their own script with xmlsimple will probably be requiring
the library at it's old location, so that will cause additional
problems for them. The proper way to fix this problem is to include a
loading stub, as Adam suggested in the bug report.

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 0.9-16
of my package "sysnews".

It builds these binary packages:
sysnews- program to display system news

The package is not lintian clean, but I think that the problems that
lintian is reporting are justifiable.

The upload would fix these bugs: 483250 (the ITA)

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/s/sysnews
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/s/sysnews/sysnews_0.9-16.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards
 Ryan Niebur

RFS: mergelog (updated package)

2009-02-25 Thread Ryan Niebur
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 4.5.1-8
of my package "mergelog".

It builds these binary packages:
mergelog - Merges httpd log files by date

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 395715, 500354

Here's where the package can be found:
- URL: http://ryan52.info/~ryan52/mergelog/
- dget http://ryan52.info/~ryan52/mergelog/mergelog_4.5.1-8.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Re: RFS: redmine

2009-03-11 Thread Ryan Niebur
Hi Jérémy,

Rather than installing vendor/plugins, all of the plugins should be
packaged. Gunnar Wolf did will_paginate, you can look at that for an
example.

Also in debian/copyright, what does "License: none" mean? Does that
mean that it can't be distributed? It needs a license..

There's also the following lintian output, some of which is ignorable:
I: redmine source: no-complete-debconf-translation
P: redmine source: debian-control-has-unusual-field-spacing line 7
I: redmine source: quilt-patch-missing-description
00_load_default_data_env.patch
I: redmine source: quilt-patch-missing-description
01_load_default_data_rescue_already_loaded.patch
I: redmine source: quilt-patch-missing-description 02_production_env.patch
P: redmine: copyright-refers-to-symlink-license usr/share/common-licenses/GPL
P: redmine: no-upstream-changelog
I: redmine: unused-override package-contains-empty-directory
usr/share/redmine/vendor/plugins/gloc-1.1.0/lang/
I: redmine: unused-override script-not-executable
./usr/share/redmine/extra/svn/reposman.rb
I: redmine: unused-override script-not-executable
./usr/share/redmine/extra/svn/svnserve.wrapper

and you are missing a README.source.

also have you seen[1] and the other responses to Richard's package?

You also might consider joining the Debian Ruby Extras team and seeing
if they can sponsor it for you. They were working with Richard on his
package.

Thanks,
Ryan

you shouldn't increment the debian revision (leave it as -1).

also, instead of uploading a new version to mentors.debian.net, could
you please put it into the pkg-ruby-extras svn repository, and
maintain it as part of that team[1]?

a) co maintaintenance is good
b) it'll help you find a sponsor
c) it makes it easier for people to see changes...it's in an svn repo, so you
don't need to reupload.
d) Richard's version of the package is already there

1: if you ask them, they will probably give you access to the svn repo...just

Do "rm .Makefile.swp .Makefile.swn .Makefile.swo". It might have just
been temporary. But if it happens every time you build twice in a row,
add them to debian/clean (create the file). That only works if you are
using debhelper compatibility version 7.

pdebuild first builds a source-only build in your current directory,
then it uses that to build the binary packages in the chroot. So this
is expected behavior, and that's why it is building that first.

>

no, not a bug at all.

It's creating nvidia-graphics-drivers-180_180.37-0ubuntu1.tar.gz
becasue it thinks you're building a native package, which you are not.
So you need to have a nvidia-graphics-drivers-180_180.37.orig.tar.gz
file in the parent directory.

Good luck,
Ryan

remove it in your clean target. since you're regenerating it, it'll be
fine if it's not there already. and removed files don't show up in the
.diff.gz.

you should use dh_clean t(1)o remove it. (just add it to debian/clean if
you're using debhelper compatibility level 7)

NOTES ABOUT PACKAGING:
mp3splt will need to be uploaded at a later time, once libmp3splt
passed through NEW.
I have some strict versioned (build-)dependencies used, this is because
upstream has told me to make sure to keep the version of mp3splt(-gtk)
installed with the version of libmp3splt that was released at the same
time
I have not used dpkg symbols control files. This is because of the
strict versioned dependencies, and because upstream says that they
won't pay attention to API compatibility, ABI compatibility, or
changing the soname, so there's really no point.
I've got a bit of weird stuff in the packaging (debian/rules.local,
debian/control.base, debian/regenerate.sh, debian/generate, and
debian/shlibs-string.sh), but this is just added complexity to make
things easier for me, and automate some of the manual tasks. :)
Also, all of the packages in the libmp3splt source package conflict
with and replace the (non-existant) libmp3splt package. This is to
support smooth upgrades from upstream's unofficial packages. I'm not
sure if I used Replaces correctly, tho...

Ryan

I cannot upload it, as I am not a DD, however I tried to check this
package, but can't seem to build it in cowbuilder or sbuild chroots.

The problem under sbuild looks to be not your fault, but maybe a bug
should be filed against the package causing it?

The problem under cowbuilder definitely seems to be a missing build
dependency. Perhaps a build dependency on libglade2-dev is needed?
anyway, I'm leaving now, so can't check.

I haven't check anything else but building in chroots yet, I may be
able to do more reviewing later.

I don't see the need for this. For most packages upstream's changelog
is installed in /usr/share/doc/$PACKAGE/, which will (hopefully)
explain all you need to know.

Of course, when you're closing bugs, I agree that there should be more
verbosity than "New upstream release".

you should reopen that bug, and make your changelog look like this:

* New upstream release.
  - initialize GNOME VFS, fixing this under GNOME 2.26 (LP: #351398)

then it will be automatically closed when this package gets uploaded.

Thanks,

I already own an ITP (libyaml-libyaml-perl) for this package, and you
don't..please don't take other peoples packages. This is why we file
ITPs, to prevent duplicated work ;)

> libsub-exporter-perl is already packaged, so it's just an update.

you can't just update other peoples packages, and the only change in
the new version is a changed link to the git repo, so we chose not to
upload it. Of course, if there were a reason to upload it, you could
join the group and prepare an upload :).

Also, have you considered joining the debian perl group to work on
these packages? look it up on the debian wiki, we'd be happy to have
your help! (and we have sponsors too :))

I don't see how your abilities with Perl programming are relevant.
the only difference between maintaining it inside a team and
maintaining it by yourself is that you get more collaboration and
help with the maintainance inside the team. If you don't know Perl,
then help from people who do know Perl is going to be a good thing.

But of course, it's up to you. I just want to know that you are
welcome to join the group if you want to.

I will do a review of your package sometime within a few hours,
however I cannot do the upload since IANADD.

Good luck,

looks good for the most part. a few minor recommendations
though. instead of linking to a screenshot in the long description,
you should upload the screenshot to screenshots.debian.net (which you
may have to do after it is uploaded). and instead of using an author
based URL in debian/watch, which won't work if somebody else uploads a
new version of this distribution, you should use something based on
http://search.cpan.org/dist/HTML-CalendarMonthSimple/. same goes for
the homepage. the homepage should probably be the URL I previously
mentioned.

I don't think there is a way...when I was in a similar situation, I
had to just push my packages to a directory on my website. Perhaps
this should be added (if it isn't already) to the wishlist for debexpo.

you should be able to do this:

override_dh_auto_configure:
dh_auto_configure -- -DBUILD_SHARED_LIBS=ON -DBUILD_DEMOS=OFF
-DBUILD_EXTRAS=OFF

I have a few minor suggestions here.

I wouldn't include the authors in the long description, as that's kind
of boring/useless information for the user. also, the short
descriptions should follow the guidelines in devref, please read this
page and adjust accordingly (no capital in "Documentation", should be
a noun phrase, etc):
http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/best-pkging-practices.html#bpp-pkg-synopsis

and I wouldn't mention that the acronym "ne" stands for "nice editor"
in the short description, I'd move that to the long description.

I will. I haven't tested that the package actually works, I'm assuming
you already did that thoroughly enough and that it will work fine for
me when I test it. other than the minor things that I mentioned above,
it seems like you did a fine job. one other concern (and this isn't
new in your changes) is that there's no copyright/license information
for the Debian packaging. It's probably okay to assume the copyright
years based on the debian/changelog and the license is the same as
upstream. could please add this information (including a copyright
statement for your work as well) to debian/copyright?

also, I'd suggest that you look into using debhelper 7 minimized rules
files (see "man dh"), tho this is completely up to you and is a
personal preference kind of thing. the rules file is fine as-is.

hm, one more thing. The information in README.Debian seems a bit out
of place. It might be better to be patching that information into the
upstream documention in the "Key Bindings" section, so that users are
more likely to see it when they're reading the manual. again, just a
suggestion, and unrelated to your changes. also, please forward your
patches to upstream if you haven't already done so.

Thanks for the work on this!

Cheers,
Ryan

most of these improvements are good, however still in the short
description of ne-doc "Documentation" should be "documentation".

great! however you shouldn't need to do "dh_auto_install -- DESTDIR=$(BUILDDIR)
PREFIX=/usr"
"dh_auto_install" passes those by default.

they really don't matter. thanks for the great work! please feel free

a while ago I began to review this package, but didn't finish, and
wasn't able to upload it either way. anyways, I'm now a DD, and
willing to sponsor it (assuming you still have interest in it). so
please get the packaging up to date (incorporate Chris's NMU, fix any
new lintian warnings, check that it builds in pbuilder, etc) and I'll
review and upload it for you.

don't remove the shebang, that needs to be there, and there's no reason to
remove it.
just remove the .py suffix.

I set my environment for sbuild like this:
exec env PATH=/usr/lib/ccache:$PATH CCACHE_DIR=/home/ryan52/.ccache/
DISTCC_HOSTS='10.0.0.10 10.0.0.17' CCACHE_PREFIX=distcc
DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=parallel=4 "$@"

/home/ (apparently by default, I don't think I did anything) is bind
mounted so this is preserved.

have you tried asking the maintainer if you could work with him? all I
can see is a mail from you 3 days ago...a bit fast to pull the trigger
on attempting an NMU there. also, it looks like your mail was only
through the BTS. sometimes direct mail is more effective (I know it is
with me personally, and I've had similar experiences with other
developers). after that, have some patience..
