I have uploaded a new package, but there are a couple of issues.

first i have to rename the ITP and i've been looking how to do it but i
haven't found.
The second thing is that i get an error that anthony (author) can't
reproduce it. The program works well but there is kind of issue with the
launcher and kick off (it saids tha KDEinit couldn't launch the program but
the program starts). I have a patch ready and sent to the author but i want
to wait till he reproduces the error and supervise the patch.

Here is the new package if someone want to make a review:

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/w/wicd-kde
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/w/wicd-kde/wicd-kde_0.2.1-1.dsc

And if someone cand help me finding a link to something to read about how to
rename the ITP bug it would be grate

Thanks

I've uploaded tha package again. I think i've corrected all the mistakes
mentioned in previous emails.

I've also added provides: wicd-client in debian/control.

I am still wainting upstream response about changing the name to wicd-qt,
but till then i would be glad if someone makes a new review of the package.

I also have a question. If we (me, mentors, sponsors, DD, upstream...)
finally decide to change the name i guess i should send a new itp bug with
the new name and close this one, shouldn't I?

Thanks, iker

Here is the response:
Well technically this is a KDE App, which heavily depends on the KDE libs,
not only on Qt, and is designed to integrate in the KDE desktop. If you
call it wicd-qt, it might be misleading if someone doesn't want any kdelibs
dependencies for whatever reason. So I do not recommend using wicd-qt for
the package name, but instead wicd-kde, like your potential mentor said, for
consistency.
About the binary name, I don't plan to change it to wicd-kde, because it
doesn't contains/substitute the wicd daemon, I think it's important that
the users understand it's just a client for the daemon.
So the package wicd-gtk depends on gtk (and not GNOME) and provides the
wicd-client binary.
And the package wicd-kde depends on kde (and not only Qt) and would provide
the wicd-client-kde binary. (I can't call it wicd-client obviously so I
just add -kde at the end)

That makes sense to me. I don't know what to do now. I have to correct the
description of the package just to make clear that not only depends on qt it
also depends on kdelibs

Cheers

So the package wicd-gtk depends on gtk (and not GNOME) and provides the

The wicd-client binary is just a wrapper, that runs wicd-curses or wicd-gtk,
depending on whether X is available or not.

wicd-gtk is really a separate client, /usr/bin/wicd-gtk .
Also /usr/bin/wicd-curses is a client, and /usr/bin/wicd-cli is another.
I see /usr/bin/wicd-client-kde failing being consistent here :-)

Anthony, would it be possible for you to reconsider this decision, and call
it /usr/bin/wicd-kde?

That makes sense to me. I don't know what to do now. I have to correct the

Yes, please, correct the package description.

Other than this, the package seemed fine to me earlier today. I'll have a more
careful check as soon as the binary name issue is solved.

In fact, you can install both because there is no reason not to be able to.

be renamed on one side to avoid the conflict.

I would be very gatetful if someone could review my package again and tell

The patch you have made to fix the spelling errors still has some issues:

* You should incorporate DEP-3 headers to it.
* You are renaming the informationsButton object into informationButton.
Why that ? This will never appear in the GUI and will only be a source of
errors, no ?
* You changed adress for address in the english source and in all po's,
but it seems you made a quick search and replace. This has the following
consequences:
 - in french, you substituted adresse for addresse, which is wrong
   (french adresse has one 'd')
 - You changed the source translations blindly (aka the translations are
not marked fuzzy. How do you know that the non-plural form of
Information is translated the same in chinese as its plural form ?

So I would say that both entagled part of the patch are wrong and I would
simply drop it: the code change is too risky and the i18n label change is
done too blindly.

Just convince upstream to release a fixed version. :-)

There is a big issue with the icons thing, i'll quote the author's response:

---
Unfortunately I can't do this, because I use the same name scheme as knm on
purpose. Let me explain the situation:
- That name scheme is the one used by monochromatic icons on KDE4.5.x. There
is no way to have control over it. So if I want the application to use those
monochromatic icons, I have to use that name scheme.
Now the tricky part:
- The monochromatic icon set is shipped in kdebase-runtime as part of the
Air desktop theme.
- network-wired.png (has to be used because is has a monochromatic
equivalent) is shipped in oxygen-icons.
- All the other icons are shipped with knm.
To sum up: The monochromatic icons are meant to be used with one and only
one icon (well at least one icon name), but monochromatic icons + normal
icons are dispatched in 3 different kde parts (I don't know how I should
call them), and one of this parts is an application on its own (knm), so
not generic. I hope you understand my explaination ;)
My plan was to get in touch with the knm guys eventually, to try to have all
the icons in one place, but I haven't yet. But even if it happens, I doubt
it will happen tomorrow, if you know what I mean...

So i guess that the best option is to comunicate with kde-devel team to see
if it's posible to provide those icons with oxygen-icon-theme instead that
with knm-runtime. We'll see that. But now i just want to keep correcting
the package and see if i can do something that it worths, so i'll keep
conflicts: knm-runtime for the present time.

The patch you have made to fix the spelling errors still has some issues:

 Everything fixed i think...

Trying to build (pdebuild) this package I do get a warning for lacking

What is worse, I get this too:

Have you forgotten som build-depends on some KDE development package?

Hi Iker, and thanks for packaging this software!

Preliminary notice: I am not a DD, so I will not be able to upload your
package. However, I think that my review can be of interest.

The package appears to be lintian clean.

Maybe, but it doesn't build in a clean chroot: you miss at least kdelibs-bin
(so using kdelibs5-dev as Build-Dependency would be good [and works]). Did
you build it in a clean chroot (with pbuilder or sbuild e.g.) before
uploading it to mentors.d.n ?

Once I fixed that, I still had one lintian warning:

W: wicd-client-kde: binary-without-manpage usr/bin/wicd-client-kde

which should really be fixed (see help2man for example).

The upload would fix these bugs: 602049

Other things I noticed (randomly ordered)

* Your debian/copyright is unusual as it doesn't quote the GPL license.

* You have a debian/patches subdirectory that contains direct changes to the
source: if you want to apply patches, you should really prepare real patches
(quilt add; quilt edit; …).

* You are mis-using the Vcs-* fields in debian/control: those are not meant
to point the the upstream VCS, but to the packaging VCS.

* This package would perfectly fit in the KDE-Extras team; did you
consider putting it under this umbrella ?

* There is a typo in the description: qt should be Qt. And if it is
really a KDE client, it should be labelled as such.

* Your changelog contains two useless informations: the fact that it's your
first package and the two spelling errors you are fixing (without proper
patching, see above). For a first release, there is usually no need to
explain what you have done (a matter of taste). So if you want to mention
the spelling errors patch, you can, but you should mention that it is done
through patching.

* The packages ships the network-wireless-*.png icons, that are also in knm-
runtime. So you would either need to conflict with knm-runtime or convince
their maintainers to ship said icons in a separate package that you could
use too. By the way, this shows that the icons are probably duplicated from
knm-runtime and this sucks (code/data duplication is never good). By the
way, the oxygen-icon-theme package ships network-wireless-connected-*.png
icons which could be used instead. Furthermore, those icons are shipped in
the orig tarball as *.png, which is certainly not the preferred form of
modification.

So far so good, you have already enough to do. :-) Looking forward for your
fixed package !

Cheers, OdyX
