OK, how do I cope with missing build-depends? I tried to build on one of
the chroots on pergolesi, but that doesn't know about dpkg-checkbuilddeps
 or dpkg-buildpackage...

There's no point in building on pergolesi for uploads to the archive yet
anyway. amd64 isn't in unstable.

FYI, for amd64 best join the debian-amd64 irc channel and ask someone
to wb-cmd return package version to rebuild the package. Any
person in the debian-amd64 group on alioth can reschedule a build.

But thats just for amd64.

Developer has to do it manually.

You'll need to ask debian-admin for that package to be installed in the
chroot.

Note that you don't actually need to bother with building a nonfree
package on all architectures. It just needs to be built on
archictectures on which it was previous built. If this is causing you a
huge problem, you can ask ftpmaster to remove packages on other
architectures that you can't build for, and then it won't matter.

Cheers,

Re: Buildds fail on quite a few architectures

2004-01-27 Thread Jochen Friedrich
Hi Tobias,

Every failed buildd stopped with this message:

Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
xlibs-dev: Depends: libice-dev but it is not installable

Quite a lot of packages are currently failing to build with this message.

My question is: do I have to do anything about the failure of the buildds, or,
more specifically: *can* I do anything about it? Will my package be rebuilt
 when xfree86 builds cleanly?

All you can do is to wait until buildd can install all required packages
again. Your package will be retried as soon as the dependency problems
are solved.

2004-01-27 Thread Andreas Barth
* Tobias Toedter ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) [040127 20:55]:
 Building Dependency Tree...
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
xlibs-dev: Depends: libice-dev but it is not installable
Depends: [some more packages] but it is not installable
 E: Sorry, broken packages
 apt-get failed.

xlibs-dev is included in the source package xfree86, which has had an upload
yesterday -- it seems like there occured some problems with the upload,
probably because it's an upgrade to version 4.3.0.

Judging from the buildd's error message, I would think that the build failure
is not my fault. Is that right?

It seems so to me.

My question is: do I have to do anything about the failure of the buildds,
 or,
more specifically: *can* I do anything about it? Will my package be rebuilt
 when xfree86 builds cleanly?

Well, the current situation is especially delicate. The short answer
is: Your package will be automatically picked-up again if the
buildd-admin does his job right. (The longer answer is that XFree
4.3.0 was unaccepted today, so that your dependencies are not broken
anyways. In the other case I'd have advised you a rebuild-only upload
so that the packages are build on all architectures against the same
X-version.)

Cheers,
Andi
