2.6.16-1 hyper logging

2006-05-03 Thread Jean-Christophe Michel
Hi,

2.6.16-1 is a bit too much logging:
kernel: evbug.c: Event. Dev: adb2:2.c4/input, Type: 0, Code: 0, Value: 0
kernel: evbug.c: Event. Dev: powermac/beep, Type: 18, Code: 2, Value: 0

Quite 20 lines per second ! Is there a var to change via /proc/sys or is
it necessary to recompile the kernel with less logging ?

no keyborad with xorg on Pismo/unstable

2006-05-02 Thread Jean-Christophe Michel
Hi,

I updated and migrated from xfree86 to xorg on my unstable Pismo.
But I'm not able to keep a working keyboard similar with mac layout.

The generated xorg.conf contains:

Section InputDevice
Identifier Generic Keyboard
Driver keyboard
Option CoreKeyboard
Option XkbRules xfree86
Option XkbModel macintosh
Option XkbLayout fr_new
Option XkbOptionsctrl:nocaps
EndSection

(fr_new comes from http://www.linux-france.org/macintosh/clavier_v4.html)

All attempts I made to change this setting leads to a non working
keyboad in Gnome. Currently I'm writing from Xfe where I get a keyboard
working, though without any accentuated chars. I don't get the pipe
neither :/

Anyone already experienced an xorg switch on an old pwb with adb kbd ?

Hi,

Bin Zhang wrote:

I had a similar problem on my ibook after upgrade from xorg6 to xorg7.
 I had to copy fr_new to /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/macintosh_vndr/fr.
Using the name fr_new didn't work.

 My config :
 Section InputDevice
 IdentifierGeneric Keyboard
 Driverkbd
 OptionCoreKeyboard
 OptionXkbRulesxorg
 OptionXkbModelmacintosh
 OptionXkbLayoutfr
 EndSection

Many thanks ! very good advice, it works now: éà|\ !
I digged into this for some hours without any result :/
I didn't find any doc about the place where kbds were placed; I thought
they were in /etc/x11/xkb/symbols/macintosh :(
The driver name changed from keyboard to kbd too.
Why was there no warning in paquet install ? :((

read dvd with iso-8859-1 charset under os x

2004-07-21 Thread Jean-Christophe Michel

Hi,

I use xcdroast to burn backup dvds under debian unstable/2.6.6, where
locale are iso-8859-1. Source is a volume shared with netatalk.
Mounting dvds under debian work fine, I see all filenames wiht
accentuated chars. But mounting under macos x, I get all accentuated
filenames truncated, and some dirs seem to be empty.

What options should i check to be able to read dvds under os x ?

(Dvd burned with cdrecord-ProDVD, Rockridge archive option,
-input-charset=iso8859-1).

install yaboot (after switching hd in a powerbook)

2004-06-11 Thread Jean-Christophe Michel

Hi,

I'm stuck in my hd switching. I used to have a dual boot Powerbook
Firewire G3 (debian unstable/os9),
and i prepared a second hd in an external firewire box with partitions
for debian, osx and 9.
I installed osx and 9 fine on this external disk, and mounted it from
debian to copy my debian partitions
using tar cf - . | (cd /mnt; tar xf -). I changed /etc/yaboot.conf to
reflect my new partitions

but cannot succeed in running ybin.
[By the way i couldn't shutdown or telinit 1 in single user mode, had to
stop manually most processes; maybe a debian

ppc bug]

I switched the internal and external disks. Booting in osx and os9
works; even with 'alt' key i cannot see the debian

partition.
I found no way to have open firmware boot on hd:9 (bootstrap) or 11
(debian), nor from external firewire debian partition

(i found the device name in OF but it hangs just after kernel launching :(
So the question is: how can i add yaboot in hd:9 ?
- imo i need booting in debian first; but i have no working cd/dvd :(((
+ Would it be possible from a debianppc iso with a firewire dvd reader ?
+ Would it be possible from my old hd ? what need i do for it to boot ?
- without booting under debian, is there a way to copy yaboot files and
initrd to a partition ?

even if macosx and 9 are hfs+ ?
I can still reinit and reinstall all but it'll be long :((

Thks to all suggestions.

read and recover files from a damaged osx disk

2004-01-03 Thread Jean-Christophe Michel
Hi,

I'm trying to recover some files from a damaged pwb 2.5 disk (hence
hfs+ partitions).
Via Firewire nothing mounted. I plugged it on ide chain in a 386 debian
machine and used dd to copy partitions to files (noerror, sync).

Sharing these files with my debian pwb (via nfs) i try to mount them
with mount -t hfsplus -o loop,ro partition-file /point
but it complains about too much loop used or inconsistent volume header.

I think it's the header that's damaged. What can be done ?
Copying the header from a valid hfs+ volume ?

I tried too to load these recovered partitions-files under macosx
too, but appending .img is not enough to have them mounted :(

Ideas ?

firewire damaged disk

Hi all,

I'm trying to make a lowlevel copy of a damaged ide 2.5 hd (using dd).
I placed it in an external firewire box, and when plugged in to my

And nothing more.
If i try dumpe2fs /dev/sda :

dumpe2fs 1.35-WIP (21-Aug-2003)
dumpe2fs: Aucun périphérique ou adresse while trying to open /dev/sda

sr0 or sda0 to 15 don't give a better result.
I think the disk isn't loaded at all.

Is there a lower level to address a disk via firewire ?

gconf messed in sid and downgrading

2003-11-29 Thread Jean-Christophe Michel
Hi,

I made the error of upgrading my sid/gnome two days ago.
This changed gconf2 to 2.4 and i lost evolution-mail;
one of the messages asked to log out and in again.
When trying to login into gnome, i was warned the session didn't last
10s, because gnome-check-config-2 didn't pass.
The only way for me to see gnome back was to change
/usr.lib/gconf2/gnome-check-config-2 and set a stupid script returning 0
instead. But now i have only evolution, all menus, icons... are messed
up.

I know all this is probably related to the repository being broken.
What solution can you suggest me to downgrade last upgrade ? local .debs
were deleted :( and i have no console under gnome.

Second question: why isn't it possible to have a real console (plain
screen) with F2 or F3 ? never worked here. Failsafe console is only a
quarter screen ;(

Thks for help, i'm a bit paralyzed there.

max_charge and pmu reset on Pismo

Hi,

I purchased a renewed battery from a third-party who'd able to change Li
elements in my old Pismo battery.
But despite some cycles, max_charge doesn't increase.
I tried many things to reset pmu, i tried to boot with os9 and make a
cycle but max_charge is always sticked to 394.

What can i do more ?
Does PowerManager store the battery max charge or is it inside the
battery ?
How can this number be changed ?

recompiling alsa module w kernel 2.4.21-ben2

2003-08-26 Thread Jean-Christophe Michel
Hi,

I'm on a Pismo 500 laptop on unstable.
I cannot use sound, i have no module alsa.
grep ALSA /usr/src/benh_kernel/.config shows nothing.
I tried to load alsa-source but don't know how to compile it
with make-kpkg : modules target builds /usr/src/modules
and not /lib/modules...

Is sound not working linked to a bad kernel config ?
How do i compile alsa ? do i need to ?

Unfortunately i cannot go further than seeing the phone and its

how to do this.
This phone works well on OSX (someone I know who uses the same phone

When i do pon, i see the pppd process hanging just before ip

Thks for help if someone ever succeeded in making this config work.

possible php bug on powerpc/4.2.3

Hi all,

var_export() seems to print delirious contents when printing an array:
only the first two or three values are correctly printed. Then it seems
to be like utf8 printed in iso-latin1...

I experienced this on a powerpc/testing with php as cgi and module,
php -v gives 4.2.3.
Could someone have the same test on some other machines ?
I don't know if it's a php bug or a ppc pkg one... though there's no bug
report till now on bugs.php.net.

Here is a code to test:

// file test.php
?php
  echo 'var_export testbr';

$a = array('hello', 'bonjour', 'Guten Tag', 'Hayo', 'Salam', 'Buon
giorno');

  var_export($a);

// you can try too
// echo var_export($a, true);

Is there a parameter in XFree to correst this ?

I already tried to reinstall with
