For the centralized D-I buildds (which includes powerpc) Luk Claes and Otavio Salvador are the persons who set up the buildds and who are AFAIK the only people who currently have the access required to maintain the buildds. I have seen no mails from them on the d-boot list requesting help with that, so I can only assume they're still willing to maintain them (although the evidence seems to indicate otherwise). If it doesn't get fixed, there's not much point in claiming that Debian supports PowerPC architecture... Bullshit. I agree that it's a huge nuisance for testing and that the daily builds really should be available, but the alpha1 release works just fine (except for the known issues) and a next release will also not have this issue. For testing the current development status of the installer you could always build your own images. It's not that hard. Your point about not supporting powerpc is a gross exaggeration and to be honest I'm getting pretty tired of your repeating that any time *volunteers* don't jump quickly enough to your liking. So far I've also not seen that much actual help with arch-specific D-I development from the Debian powerpc community, despite repeated calls for help from our side. However, there are images for powerpc alpha which do work. The images that do not work are from before alpha1 was released. I had a similar problem with the pre alpha builds but my problem was the the network card couldn't be configured. I was not sure whether it couldn't find the drivers for the network card or not only knew that it would not configure the network card and that is where installation would come to a halt. This was fixed with the alpha1 builds. Unfortunately, I cannot help you with sid daily builds because the installation is unable to mount the cdrom driver once the installation starts. However maybe that has changed and will test a sid build and see if it can find the network drivers to install. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-powerpc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Is PowerPC simply so unimportant that resources cannot be spared to even *look* at a problem that renders the installer unusable on that hardware? From my experience a) there is little point to the business card image. The netinstall is the good option. b) daily builds are not necessarily supposed to work they are just for developers to share and try out ideas with. c) try the weekly builds, d) try testing, do a basic install and add unstable items with testing preferred. Unstable is not guaranteed to do anything except that (do I have this exactly right) certain very severe bugs cause it to reject moving to testing, after a short period of time the item either moves to testing or to experimental or nothing (in that particular version). I am no DD I have just listened to the lists for a few years. Brian I can confirm that this is bug is also present on the playstation 3. Debian Squeeze Daily builds no longer installable on the ps3
Hello, I'm writing to inform that Debian suqueeze daily builds are no longer installable on the playstation 3. I have tried with both usb media and cd-rw media by burning the mini iso onto the media and both result in a repeating error message that says segmentation fault and something about process and a number and something about kbd or something similar I'm sorry I am unable to give exact details becaue I am visually impaired and cannot really see the smal print. This occurs after selecting the install option from petiboot. Tried the build from 12-28-09. One thing that is important to me in a linux distro for PS3 is flash but there is no real support for flash on the PPC. Since you are the one who is making linux happen on the ps3, are you in the position of making flash available for linux on the PS3? If not, who is the person in charge of getting things like flash working on linux for PS3? Are you a debian specific person or you answer questions about any linux distro for the PS3. I like to try out new builds of linux distros on my ps3 when I have spare time so I can tell someone if I find any bugs but that is all I know. Re: How to install testing version of Debain on PS3
Hi, Thanks for the reply. You mean I have to build my own kernel from scratch in order to get debain working on the ps3? If so, this is way over my head. I have the latest otheros.bld file installed on my ps3 A while back, tried an unofficial debain version for ps3 which produced a 60hz screen refreshed rate better than any other distro came with. If this is too difficult now. I hope to try debain as soon as it becomes easier to install. Thanks. Norberto _ Climb to the top of the charts! How to install testing version of Debain on PS3
Hi, I do I install the testing version of debain on the ps3? I understand that the testing version of debain has no otheros.bld file and is missing some ps3 specific utilites but I read on here that it is installable on the plyastation 3. Can I just for example burn the latest testing net install iso for power pc and put it in my ps3 and it will install as long as I already have an otheros.bld file installed on my ps3 or is ther more to just burning the cd in order to install bedbian currently? Thanks. [http://www.windowslive-hotmail.com/betathanks/download/images/download_2.jpg] Norberto _ Climb to the top of the charts!
