Bug#649909: Xmp data

You can look at it using any pager. The XMP specification requires that
it not be encoded (other than the intrinsic XML encoding, of course),
encrypted, or compressed. pdftk might be able to dump it for you, but
I'm not sure.

Package: ghostscript
Version: 9.01~dfsg-1
Severity: normal

When I print a file with ghostscript 9, I always get a blank page
printed first. Then my document prints normally. So if I have a
one-page letter, two pieces of paper come out: a blank page and my
letter. This does not occur with ghostscript 8, but it did occur with
the ghostscript 9 that was in experimental. When I am printing multiple
copies of a file with evince, each copy includes its own blank page.

The printer I am using is an Officejet 4500. I also see this problem
with a Deskjet 5740. Both of these printers use the hplip/hpijs
functionality, although one uses the full hplip (with the hp backend)
and the other uses just the ppds (with the usb backend); these printers
are on two different machines. While this is not terrible, it is
inconvenient and quite irksome when I'm printing twenty copies of
something.

I am of course happy to do some testing if you need me to.

Hi Bastien,

All the README.Debian says is "Some valid PostScript and PDF files
will fail to parse due to some (old, presumably?) Adobe interpreters
violating the JPEG standard", which is not even true. (It's
presumably due to the programs generating the invalid JPEGs, which
were neither postscript interpreters nor written by Adobe. Though no
one seems to have found any examples triggering this.) Wouldn't it
make sense to make the README reflect what was already discovered in
the history of this report?

Thanks,
Jonathan

The file might not be the nicest one (it's an export from a proprietary
windows software), but it is displayed by gs (gs-gpl currently) without
problems. gv, however, changes the cursor to the clock that indicate
waiting, but it didn't display anything even after a minute.

An example file is at
http://people.debian.org/~frank/Pro20-Donor_Tween-02-25.eps

If you transform it to a pdf file with epstopdf, the symptoms stay the
same.

Bug 693205: check for "sane" page dimensions in x11 drivers

In the x11 devices, the page size is used to request the window dimensions from

X, and X does not support 0 x 0 sized windows.

If a page size is, or rounds to 0 x 0, inform the user, and return a

rangecheck error.

Package: libgs9

Severity: normal

- Printing a 1-page PDF from evince (train ticket from Trenitalia - Italian
rail) to EPSON Stylus DX5000 printer
- As printing didn't start I checked dmesg which produced the following
messages:
[ 791.589419] usb 1-3: usbfs: process 2726 (usb) did not claim interface 0
before use
[ 791.738989] gs[2727]: segfault at 512 ip 7fcedfe0b1dc sp
7fff52a062f8 error 6 in libgs.so.9.02[7fcedfa22000+507000]
- A workaround which worked for me was to do a pdf2ps on the file and then open
and print the output PS file.

As the file in question contains personal information related to another person
I'd prefer not to disclose it publicly but would be happy to send it to
maintainers/developers

When I do ps2pdf on a .ps-file, the resulting .pdf-file has incorrect margins.
This problem goes away if I apt-get install gs-esp.

The .ps-file in question was generated with this script:

#! /bin/bash
latex $1.tex
dvips -t a5 $1.dvi -o $1.ps
psselect -p_,- $1.ps $1b.ps
psnup -2 -l -Pa5 $1b.ps $1c.ps ; ps2pdf $1c.ps $1.pdf

For instance

ps2pdf yadac.ps

generates a faulty pdf-document, but if I install gs-esp, the same command
results in a correct pdf-document.

I also used the above script in a chrooted, debian stable environment to
produce another yadastablec.ps, which I copied into my debian unstable tree.

ps2spdf yadastablec.ps

produces the same effets as before, which should show that the problem is
indeed in the ps2pdf part of the script.

I am using Debian GNU/Linux unstable for AMD64, a custom smp kernel 2.6.15 and
libc-2.3.6.so. I am attaching yada.tex.

A pdf that I got from the web (and that you can have for testing, if desired)
prints all pages in lower left corner of page. If the pdf is converted to .ps,
it can be printed with text blocks centered without difficulty. I rate this
somewhere between normal and minor on my personal severity scale. It is
for me to test this bug on another file since I don't have facility for
creating known states in pdf files, or have any knowledge as to what controls
the page centering of a document in pdf or ps.

Package: ghostscript
Version: 8.62.dfsg.1-3.1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

gv can't view the folow files:

>From gedit

http://www.divshare.com/download/5770390-420

Broken.

>From iceweasel

http://www.divshare.com/download/5770391-cee

Broken.

>From openoffice

http://www.divshare.com/download/5770392-1f3

OK.

The Broken/OK is for whether gv can view the pages.

If I convert them to PDF with ps2pdf and then view them
without any problems.

This can be causing printer not work.

after updating my unstable system, I get again gs-esp working with more then
80% memory usage. I think it's a libc6 problem, with libc6-2.3.2.ds1-15 it
works fine for me, with newer -16 I get following situation after starting
printing:

I can produce PDF documents without problems using ps2pdf, but larger images
will be in very poor quality (unsharp). I didn't found a parameter for gs to
stop that. The original images are OK.

gs-5.50 didn't had this problem with PDF files.

Upgrading version of (gs-esp 8+8.15rc4.dsfg.1-2 (or dsfg.1-1)) causes
the capital G in the Optimum font to print as a space so I have
downgraded to etch version 7.07.1-9 for now which works.

This only happens with a font called Optimum. I have put a copy of the

All the Best, Peter

I think this is really a gs problem because this is what ps2pdf calls.
So feel free to reassign. I am using gs 6.51-7 (that's the current
version in woody).

If I am just using the command 'ps2pdf test.ps' (true colour) images in
the ps file end up with distorted colours in the pdf file. I tried this
with png and jpg files.

Using something like 'ps2pdf -dColorImageDepth=4
-dDownsampleColorImages=true -dColorImageResolution=300 test.ps' does
not distort colours but obviously gives a coarser image. Using values 8
or -1 for parameter 'ColorImageDepth' results in the same colour
distortion as if no parameters were specified.

I am happy to send a sample ps file and/or provide other imformation.

Best regards & thanks for your time
Andree

Bug#642247: Could not reproduce your bug

thanks

Can youget gs to segfault from the command line? Maybe adding "LogLevel
debug" to /etc/cups/cupsd.conf and looking at /var/log/cups/error_log
would help with this.

And test with a newer version

Thanks for helping debian

Bastien

Hi,

Thanks for reporting this bug.

However we could not reproduce because you do not gve enouth detail.

Care to retry to print this file wirh "LogLevel

would help with this.

Thanks

Hello,

in the following minimal example, the blue line is broken where two
control points are superimposed. This is not the case for the red line.
This looks like a bug, doesn't it? This is observed with "gv" and "evince".

Package: ghostscript
Version: 9.00~dfsg-1

Please note that I do not use debian, but the debian package maintainer
Jonas Smedegaard's asked me to report a debian bug for the following bug
found in upstream ghostscript 9.00:

As visible on my system and documented on
http://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=691733

--- begin cite ---
I have following troubles with printing.
When i add new text printjob with at least 2 pages (e.g. pdf file),
first page
looks normally, but other duplicates current page on each paper. It
looks like

layered document with text shifts.
--- end cite ---

Upstream bug report confirms this bug with different printers.

My system failed with (just for reference as non-debian) cups 1.3.7,
ghostscript 9.0 and turboprint (http://www.turboprint.com). But
according to the upstream bug report, this happens without using
turboprint, too.

Hi.

I am just trying to print one article that I got in PDF form from
Wikipedia and it doesn't work with Ghostscript.

On the other hand, it *does* work if I convert the article to Postscript
with the command pdftops from poppler-utils.

I am sending an example file as a follow up to this message.

Package: ghostscript
Version: 8.71~dfsg2-9
Severity: normal

ghostscript 8.71 segfaults when invoked by CUPS (via the pdftoraster filter)
to print to a Seiko Smart Label Printer (SLP) using the PPD provided
by Seiko (at www.siibusinessproducts.com). The offending ghostscript command
(with standard input from pstopdf|pdftopdf) is

/usr/bin/gs -dQUIET -dPARANOIDSAFER -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=cups
   -sstdout=%stderr -sOutputFile=%stdout -I/usr/share/cups/fonts
   -r203x203 -dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=236 -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=68
   -dcupsBitsPerColor=1 -dcupsColorOrder=0 -dcupsColorSpace=3
   -scupsPageSizeName=AddressSmall -c -f -

If the PARANOIDSAFER option is removed, the command succeeds, but it still
fails with SAFER instead.

The above command succeeds when using the precompiled gs 9.04 for linux-x86_64
from downloads.ghostscript.com, but all else from my Squeeze system.
(The ghostscript folks mention that various
cups rastering segfaults were fixed recently.)

Fixed by commit a88326f1ca382092c889ffa9be1abe857c118a34

Bug 693166: Optimise interpolation

When interpolating, ghostscript pays no heed to the clipping rectangle.
Hence if we scale (say) a 256x256 image up to (say)17067x17067, even
though only a small portion of the scaled up image is actually visible
we scale the whole lot only to throw away 90%+ of it.
