Bug#649909: Xmp data

Bug#613408: marked as done (ghostscript: prints extra blank page)
Your message dated Mon, 23 Jul 2012 23:17:12 + with message-id <20120723231712.ga316...@crustytoothpaste.ath.cx> and subject line Re: We need more info for your debian bug has caused the Debian Bug report #613408, regarding ghostscript: prints extra blank page to be marked as done. This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with. If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what this message is talking about, this may indicate a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact ow...@bugs.debian.org immediately.) -- 613408: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=613408 Debian Bug Tracking System Contact ow...@bugs.debian.org with problems --- Begin Message --- Package: ghostscript Version: 9.01~dfsg-1 Severity: normal When I print a file with ghostscript 9, I always get a blank page printed first. Then my document prints normally. So if I have a one-page letter, two pieces of paper come out: a blank page and my letter. This does not occur with ghostscript 8, but it did occur with the ghostscript 9 that was in experimental. When I am printing multiple copies of a file with evince, each copy includes its own blank page. The printer I am using is an Officejet 4500. I also see this problem with a Deskjet 5740. Both of these printers use the hplip/hpijs functionality, although one uses the full hplip (with the hp backend) and the other uses just the ppds (with the usb backend); these printers are on two different machines. While this is not terrible, it is inconvenient and quite irksome when I'm printing twenty copies of something. I am of course happy to do some testing if you need me to. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.37-trunk-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages ghostscript depends on: ii cdebconf [d 0.154Debian Configuration Management Sy ii debconf [de 1.5.38 Debian configuration management sy ii debianutils 3.4.4Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii gsfonts 1:8.11+urwcyr1.0.7~pre44-4.2 Fonts for the Ghostscript interpre ii libc6 2.11.2-11Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libgs9 9.01~dfsg-1 interpreter for the PostScript lan ghostscript recommends no packages. This problem goes away if I apt-get install gs-esp. The .ps-file in question was generated with this script: #! /bin/bash latex $1.tex dvips -t a5 $1.dvi -o $1.ps psselect -p_,- $1.ps $1b.ps psnup -2 -l -Pa5 $1b.ps $1c.ps ; ps2pdf $1c.ps $1.pdf For instance ps2pdf yadac.ps generates a faulty pdf-document, but if I install gs-esp, the same command results in a correct pdf-document. I also used the above script in a chrooted, debian stable environment to produce another yadastablec.ps, which I copied into my debian unstable tree. ps2spdf yadastablec.ps produces the same effets as before, which should show that the problem is indeed in the ps2pdf part of the script. So feel free to reassign. I am using gs 6.51-7 (that's the current version in woody). If I am just using the command 'ps2pdf test.ps' (true colour) images in the ps file end up with distorted colours in the pdf file. I tried this with png and jpg files. Using something like 'ps2pdf -dColorImageDepth=4 -dDownsampleColorImages=true -dColorImageResolution=300 test.ps' does not distort colours but obviously gives a coarser image. Using values 8 or -1 for parameter 'ColorImageDepth' results in the same colour distortion as if no parameters were specified. I am happy to send a sample ps file and/or provide other imformation. The offending ghostscript command (with standard input from pstopdf|pdftopdf) is /usr/bin/gs -dQUIET -dPARANOIDSAFER -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=cups -sstdout=%stderr -sOutputFile=%stdout -I/usr/share/cups/fonts -r203x203 -dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=236 -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=68 -dcupsBitsPerColor=1 -dcupsColorOrder=0 -dcupsColorSpace=3 -scupsPageSizeName=AddressSmall -c -f - If the PARANOIDSAFER option is removed, the command succeeds, but it still fails with SAFER instead. The above command succeeds when using the precompiled gs 9.04 for linux-x86_64 from downloads.ghostscript.com, but all else from my Squeeze system. Bug#440478: [ghostscript]
tags 440478 + fixed-upstream thanks Fixed by commit a88326f1ca382092c889ffa9be1abe857c118a34 Bug 693166: Optimise interpolation When interpolating, ghostscript pays no heed to the clipping rectangle. Hence if we scale (say) a 256x256 image up to (say)17067x17067, even though only a small portion of the scaled up image is actually visible we scale the whole lot only to throw away 90%+ of it. bastien -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-printing-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
