I have confirmed this behaviour and forwarded to upstream, thanks!

It's now fixed already, here's the proposed patch:

https://www.cups.org/strfiles/4261/str4261.patch

I'll see if that's worth backporting to the next 1.6 upload towards
experimental, not tagging pending yet.

Cheers,

OdyX

I see no bug here in Debian or its CUPS package.

Apologies Jonas,

This was a rather hasty statement; I should have taken a look at the
changelog for foomatic-db, Reassigning this bug there and contacting
upstream with a Cc:.

Cheers,

Brian.

Bug#697970: cups: printing gets wrong after some pages on Epson Stylus Photo 750

When I print several documents or on my Epson Stylus Photo 750, after some
pages properly printed, the printing gets wrong : random characters are

The used printer driver is CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.9.
This happens on Debian wheezy (and also Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10), while I don't
get such problem with Debian Squeeze (nor Mageia 2 and Opensuse 12.2).

Hello Denis,

First get your Wheezy install up-to-date. Then, working on the
assumption this may be a USB problem, have a look at

   https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/872483

Comment #61 involves an Epson printer. The tests which are run there
(please see comment #56) might help to narrow down the problem.

Regards,

Brian.

 Hello Brian,

thanks a lot for pointing me to that thread. Indeed, the described
 problem looked exactly like mine.
So, I did a full wheezy upgrade and then performed :
 lpadmin -p Stylus_Photo_750 -o usb-unidir-default=true
and the problem was gone. Then I ran :
 lpadmin -p Stylus_Photo_750 -o usb-unidir-default=false
and it was back, then :
 lpadmin -p Stylus_Photo_750 -o usb-unidir-default=true
 and it was gone again.
So, it Looks like it is solved !
 Thanks again,

Splendid! The setting should survive rebooting.

PS : will there be a fix in Wheezy so that other Epson stylus photo
users don't have to face the same problem ?

I cannot really say, but I would guess not because Wheezy is frozen.
Someone from the Printing Team would be able to clarify this.

It might not be a bad idea to post the entry for your printer in the
output of the lsusb command as it might be needed. Please do not forget
to send any reply to 697...@bugs.debian.org. (I bounced the previous one
there, so no need to bother about that mail).

Regards,

Brian.
