Request to join Debian Python Team

2024-05-15 Thread Maytham Alsudany
Hi DPT,

I'm requesting to join the Debian Python Team in order to maintain some
new packages under the team, such "nwg-clipman"[1], as well as moving
"nwg-hello"[2] to team maintenance. (I also may look into packaging
"plots"[3] in the long term.)

My Salsa username is "Maytha8".

I have read
https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/tools/python-modules/blob/master/policy.rst
and I accept it.

Thanks,
Maytham

I'd be happy to create a repository or give you a specific access on a
repository you'd like to maintain.

On the other hand giving you full group access while you seem to have no
contributions to Debian so far seems a bit far-fetched at this time.

In the meantime, you can submit Merge Requests to the projects you want
to contribute to, this would help us creating this track record I
mentioned above.

I hope you'll understand our position.

Bests,

As Christian is sponsoring your application I gave you Developer access
to the package subgroup.

This means some ACLs will be missing, but you can ask Christian to do
privileged operations you can't.

If you contribute on the long-term I'll be glad to increase your access

First, I'd like to apologize for the long delay for you to get a reply.

Second, as you're quite new to Debian in terms of contributions, I'd
like to ask you first to point to specific repositories you'd like to
contribute to, and second, to start doing so by submitting merge
requests (which are open for anyone).

Once you'll have built sufficient trust, we'll consider a wide-range
inclusion in DPT.

I hope that you'll understand our position on this matter.

Dear Debian Python Team managers,
my name is Francesco Ballarin, and I am currently training to become a
Debian Maintainer under the sponsorship of Drew Parsons.

With this email, I am asking you to let me join your team with my
salsa username francesco.ballarin, associated with this email address.
The rationale for this request is the following:
* I helped getting
https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/packages/python-scooby started.
python-scooby will be maintained within the Debian Python Team.
* I filed a RFS for
https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/packages/pusimp . If accepted,
pusimp would be maintained within the Debian Python Team.
* I am working on https://salsa.debian.org/science-team/python-pyvista
within the science team. python-pyvista depends on several packages
maintained by the Debian Python Team, hence it would be beneficial if
I were part of both teams.

I confirm I have read
https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/tools/python-modules/blob/master/policy.rst
and accept the policies there.

It probably doesn't makes sense to duplicate the same thing in both
places. If there is duplication, I'd suggest trimming the duplication
from the wiki.

If you have suggestions for improving the policy structure, please file
an MR against it and post on the team list, here.

Hi,

I'd like to join the python team. I just packaged scspell3k

Ruffin's Request to join Debian Python Team

2021-12-22 Thread ruffsl
Hello Debian Python Team,

I'd like to please join your team in order to help package a few new python
modules.
As expanded upon below, packaging these python modules will aid my end goal
in packaging my own build tool extensions.

Salsa account: ruffsl
(account is pending approval from your GitLab administrator)

I state I have read and accept the policy as published here:
https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/tools/python-modules/blob/master/policy.rst

Thank you,
Ruffin White

---

I've read over the "Introduction for maintainers
" wiki page, and created a
mentors account:
"Ruffin White "

And then submitted two ITP tickets to WNPP as described here:
https://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/

   - https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1002306

I've looked over the wiki for packing python modules and have draft repos:

This is my first attempt at debian packaging, so I've tried to mimic a
simple example like this one:
https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/packages/python-tabulate
Among the things I'm unsure of are the packing of tests (autopkgtest?) and
CLI (man pages?)

Perhaps we could eventually transfer these repos to the Salsa org for
Debian Python Team?

Hi,

I'd like to join the Python team on Salsa.

Recently I've taken over the maintainer ship for flask-sqlalchemy
together with a long time businesses partner I'm working together with
on my day job.

And some more packages are to come I want to work on.

For another Django based project we needed to get
python-django-crispy-forms-foundation packaged. I'm testing currently
the prepared Debian packages on this.

My username on Salsa is tijuca. Thanks!

Request to join the Python team

2021-05-17 Thread Roland Mas

Hi everyone,

I've been contracted by Synchrotron Soleil to work on the packaging of
Jupyterhub and its dependencies. This turns out to about 20 Python
packages, most of which should probably go under the Debian Python Team
umbrella (although some may go into Debian Science). So I hereby request
to be added to the python-team group on salsa. My salsa login is
"lolando", and I have read and accept the
https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/tools/python-modules/blob/master/policy.rst
policy.

Thanks, and see you soon for improving Debian :-)

Roland.

Request to join Debian Python Team

2021-05-16 Thread Joseph Nuthalapati

Dear DPT,

I am a contributor to FreedomBox, a Debian pure blend for home servers.
The main package in the FreedomBox project is a Django-based web
application. Automated testing of this web application in the browser is
done using a set of tools based on Selenium and Pytest. However, some of
the required packages are not available in Debian yet. They are

- splinter
- pytest-splinter
- pytest-bdd
- pytest-xvfb

The current process for installation of packages for testing can be
found here:

https://salsa.debian.org/freedombox-team/freedombox/-/blob/master/plinth/tests/functional/install.sh

These packages are generally useful for testing all web applications
developed on Debian. Since they are all Python packages, I think it
makes sense to maintain them as part of the Debian Python Team. I intend
to package these libraries with collaborative maintenance from the DPT.

Note: Some of the dependencies of the above packages might have to be
packaged as well. Firefox gecko driver is also required but is out of
scope for DPT.

My Salsa username: @njoseph (https://salsa.debian.org/njoseph)

I hereby declare that I have read the Policy document of the Debian
Python Team at
https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/tools/python-modules/blob/master/policy.rst
and that I accept it.

Thanks.

I did not see a single MR from all the people that requested to join
the team in recent times (and i'm subscribed to MR notifications for
both DPMT and PAPT), and i do know that you cannot submit an MR for
new packages.

Almost all those introductory mails mentioned "I want to maintain this
new package *AND* [emphasis added] help with general maintenance" but
those maintenance contributions never really came (neither before or
after membership was granted, at least not at the level a person that
cares so much would lead to expect).

If they really want to contribute they can always submit MRs or
patches to the bts, and/or prepare a NEW package in a temporary
location if access is still not granted; but that didnt really happen.

We dont really have a good process to accept new contributions (it
mostly boils down to single individuals to review, merge, upload), but
we also dont really that many to begin with.

Geert, I personally find your approach towards the current
members/admins pushy, so speaking exclusively for myself l I would
suggest you to be mindful that, while I may believe you're trying to
be helpful, you may come across differently than how you intended.

Yes, this is a volunteering project. (said the volunteer)

Imaging you are the person that wants to join this cool project.
You made some effort to apply for membership and sent in the request.

Request to join Python Modules Team

2020-04-26 Thread Nikos Roussos
Hi everyone,

I would like to join the Python Modules Team, but I am also looking for
a sponsor at the same time.

I tend to write python, but also use a lot of python tools and libraries
out there. So I thought I could start looking around to see what would
be useful to be available in the official repos.

As a way of refreshing my packaging skills, I started packaging doh-cli.
It's DNS-Over-HTTPS command line client.

I'm not a maintainer, so I would appreciate if

Relevant bug:

Relevant package build on mentors, where I've set the "Sponsor" flag
already:

I've read and agree with the Debian Python Policy.

Thanks

Request to join the Python team

2019-01-21 Thread Faidon Liambotis
Hi,

I'd like to be added to the Python team Salsa group (either PAPT, DPMT,
or both -- see below). My salsa login is "paravoid".

I've prepared multiple updates to the "tox" package, including a (much)
newer upstream, and I'd like to be able to push those changes and make
an upload to Debian. In terms of experience, I maintain a Python package
already (python-maxminddb, under collab-maint) and have sponsored other
packages in the past that were maintained by DPMT.

I'm actually a bit confused on where "tox" belongs -- Maintainer field
seems to be set to PAPT, but in salsa it's under python-modules. It
could be argued that it belongs in either, as it's a Python application
used to develop and test other Python modules and applications... I
actually don't really mind, but I would need access to both groups to be
able to move it in Salsa.

On that note... what is the Maintainer field supposed to be post-Alioth?
For DPMT, I see some packages in the archive with
  Debian Python Modules Team
but nothing similar for PAPT. PAPT's page on wiki seems outdated, as is
policy.rst on that front.

Finally, I've read python-modules policy.rst, and acknowledge that.
That said, that policy dictates the use of git-dpm, but Ondřej Nový has
already migrated tox to gbp, and I'd rather keep that change.

Regards,
Faidon

Request to join the DPMT team

2015-12-13 Thread Thiago Bellini Ribeiro
Hi,

I want to join the DPMT team. My main goal is to help to maintain some
packages which I maintain upstream. For example, the python-kiwi
package. It is very outdated on Debian and when I contacted its
maintainer he said that I should fell free to takeover the
maintainership and to contact someone from the DPMT team to sponsor my
upload.

I'm already familiar with packaging as I'm currently maintaining a PPA
used to deploy Stoq [1], an open source retail system that is
developed by the company I work (Async Open Source). Not only I
package new versions of stoq and its dependencies that we develop
(python-kiwi, stoqdrivers), but I also package some python libraries
that are not in the official Ubuntu repositories. For example,
weasyprint, python-tinycss and python-pyphen which I packaged from
scratch, and others like python-cssselect which I backported from
debian itself. Those which I packaged from scratch I want to upload to
upload to debian too.

Btw, I'm Debian testing/sid user since 2011.

I have read the DPMT policy page [2] and I accept it.

My alioth login is 'hackedbellini-guest'. I just created it.

Please let me know how should I proceed now.

Hi, I have been the maintainer of pyecm and python-gmpy for several years

You can register on alioth even if you're not a DD: your login name
will have '-guest' suffix, but that's all. Having an alioth user is a
precondition to join any team (so this included).

Thanks. I registered and my Alioth login is mkelly-guest. Is that all I
need to join?

Request to join python-modules team

Hi,
I'd like to join the python-modules team, in order to co-maintain
python-docutils with Martin F. Krafft. My Alioth login is smcv-guest.

I'm currently preparing an upload which will fix some of the old bugs
and use the new Python policy.

Thanks,
Simon
