Thanks, this seems to affect all architectures. But it clearly is not
a problem in gtkglextmm since the missing .pc file is included by
GdkGLExt.pc which is from gtkglext. Reassigning and merging with the
existing bug.

I can confirm that. And it seems to be a regression from the wheezy version.
Since I didn't change the source code in any way, I played around with the
compiler flags. Disabling _FORTIFY_SOURCE seems to "fix" it, although
I have no idea why.

I disagree. I doubt that the version in unstable/testing is useful for
anyone, and if it is, it is still available in etch anyway.
So I would go for removing it from testing.

Hmm, if that bug affects many other packages it would probably better
to get a fixed nant in lenny instead. Upstream claims that it is fixed
in a newer version, so it would be helpful if someone could try to find
out how big the patch is.

I think the override is wrong here. xsnow is clearly a toy program with
no pratical value, and I believe these are usualy located in games.

Bug#491900: This package should not be released with lenny

2008-07-22 Thread Frank Lichtenheld
Package: kxgenerator
Severity: serious
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: npolsr-cleanup

I think that package kxgenerator should not be released with
lenny because:

 * It was not released with etch, meaning that its
absence from the release most likely causes no
   regressions for Debian stable users.
 * It has a low popcon value, indicating that not many

 * No other packages depend on it.

My suggestions is that this package should

Package: hg-buildpackage
Severity: serious
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: npolsr-cleanup

I think that package hg-buildpackage should not be released with
lenny because:

 * It was not released with etch, meaning that its
absence from the release most likely causes no
   regressions for Debian stable users.
 * It has a low popcon value, indicating that not many
   people already rely on it.
 * No other packages depend on it.
 * It is orphaned.

My suggestions is that this package should
be removed from testing, but kept in Debian for now.

If you object to this reasoning, please speak up in the next
seven days (or better yet, adopt the package and close this
bug with your initial upload).

Yeah, that works.

The solution I would much prefer is to kick it out of testing, remove
it from unstable and finally get rid of this orphaned, non-free time-sink...

Bug#491378: Several issues regarding linking, orphaned, behind upstream, low popcon -> IMHO not suitable for release

2008-07-18 Thread Frank Lichtenheld
Package: linm
Severity: serious

While looking at this package to do a QA upload I noticed several
possible issues:

 - GPLed, yet links against OpenSSL. While the only code that uses
OpenSSL is licensed under a less restrictive license and on itself
is proably ok to be linked with it, in the end all is meshed together
   in one library.
 - Said code is a copy of libssh2, so it probably should be using the
seperate version in the archive instead.
 - Said code is also not mentioned in debian/copyright at all.
 - Parts of this package consist of static libraries that e.g.
link parts of OpenSSL in. This is probably a bad idea from
   a security point of view.

Together with the facts that this package is orphaned, laggs several
version behind upstream, and has really low popcon numbers I think
it would be better to keep it out of lenny for now and remove it
soon unless someone wants to clean it up.

Frank Lichtenheld

Bug#488934: [SRM] stable upload for licq?

2008-07-14 Thread Frank Lichtenheld
licq in stable is currently unusable due to server-side changes (see bug
#488934). The patch is trivial and I have confirmed that it applies to
the stable version and works.

The question now is where to upload to?
Is this ok for a stable point release? Or should this go into volatile
instead?

linux-libc-dev installed so that they should build now:

gb mctools-lite . alpha mips mipsel powerpc

ale FTBFS with new libmagickcore-dev because it has a hardcoded -lMagick
in the Makefile. When replacing that with -lMagickCode it builds fine.

I would prefer to replace it with Magick-config --libs but that also
includes -lMagickWand which is not really needed. Any way around that?

FTBFS bugs are only serious on architectures where the package built

2008-04-23 Thread Frank Lichtenheld
Package: oleo
Version: 1.99.16-7
Severity: serious

debian/copyright is incomplete: First of all it doesn't mention the different
license for the documentation, which can be found in doc/oleo.texi.

More importantly it also doesn't talk about the files in afm/ which are
all marked as "Copyright (c) Adobe Systems Incorporated. All rights

If we have any license at all to distribute these files I certainly
don't see it.

I was looking at QA packages with RC bugs today and I would suggest just
removing this one.

Last update was three years ago as can seen in the version number,
upstream doesn't seem to have new releases either AFAICT (since all the
websites are in Korean I might be mistaken...) and it was orphaned two years
ago.

Note that dh_icons was only introduced in debhelper 5.0.51,

While this certainly would fix the bug, it would mean that you have to
install emacs21 in order to be able to install doxymacs (because
w3-url-e21 depends on it) which is a rather big penalty if one does only
use xemacs...

Another possibility would be to unfold the emacsen dependency and
change it to:

Depends: (...shlibs...), w3-el-e21 | xemacs21 | emacs-snapshot

Since w3-el-21 depends on w3-url-e21 and emacs21, these are
automatically included.

IIRC direct dependencies on perl-modules are discouraged (See
perl policy). Just depend on perl, this will always ensure that
all standard modules are installed.

test -n `which deluser` gives always true...
test -n "`which deluser`" works.

I think the package right here since rxvt-beta conflicts with rxvt and
only one of them should be optional.

Nah, the correct solution would be to replace the images, which should
be way easier than the solution you're describing ;)

Bug#317997: Missing shlibs:Depends

The packages doesn't use shlibs:Depends in its Depends field so it almost
certainly is missing dependencies. If it would actually would build
I perhaps would care which ones.

Due to this missing dependencies nobody noticed that it never made the
g++ ->3.3 transition ...

It indeed doesn't include any netscape plugin in the binary
package so the description should be fixed or the netscape
plugin build again.

Downgrading the bug though because the package is still fully
usable as a standalone browser.

Nothing seems to use jakarta-log4j anymore so I've hinted it
for removal from testing. Should also a bug be filed against
ftp.debian.org to remove it completly?

One can not really call it a bug in URI::URL since the corresponding
specifications don't allow a syntax like file:index.html anyway, so
the behaviour is probably undefined (and a quick test of other
implementations indeed shows a wide range of behaviours).

The proper fix would probably be to use absolute file: URIs by
prepending the working directory. I will see if I can prepare a
patch for that.

Hmm, it may be fixed in gnome 2.10 but the only information in the
gnome BTS is "modemlights was rewritten for G10." Without someone
actually digging into these changes and producing a patch I don't think
the patch tag is really warranted, so removing.

The attached patch should fix that. I can't test it however as
I don't use webmin and don't even have a system with the necessary

The crypto functionality is included in the normal kde packages in

Hmm, the exploits given on the bugtraq site all doesn't seem to work.
Since there are many dubios statements in the source code, I'm reluctant
to simply close the bug, though.

Perhaps someone with a little more experience in identifying security
problems should take a look, too. I CC'ed debian-security.

For the context: CAN-2004-0074 may have been fixed in xsok 1.02-8
(Changelog: "Fixed buffer overflow when reading environment variable
LANG.") but I'm not sure.

But you too, since that was the wrong part ;) The LANG vuln is fixed in

I would clearly say that mathomatic-primes should declare a conflict or
change its filenames as it is newer and the name is not so strongly
linked with the package name (renaming the two files would really
be the better solution)

I've increased the severity of the mathomatic-prmes bug to serious as
missing conflicts are a policy violation.

Just to give the other QA people a status:
mozart-gtk is not in testing, therefor not investigated
rubymagick has to wait for imagemagick to be rebuild
(more exactly for the corresponding -dev package to get the

guppi miscompiled when I simply changed the build-dependency.

If someone wants to upload them before that, they are at

Seems to be a timestamp related problem, still can't reproduce it with
the same build environment as you... So I guess I can't help with this
one.

Bug#250195: fltk: new version available 1.1.5rc1 fixes lots of bugs

2004-05-21 Thread Frank Lichtenheld
retitle 250195 fltk: should be removed when all rdepends have been removed
thanks

fltk version 1.1 is packaged as fltk1.1.
fltk (version 1.0) only exists as it is a dependency of pose. pose is
filed for removal (#239233), so when this has happened, fltk can be
removed.

The QA group is aware of this but I let your bug open to so that
the BTS is also aware of it :)

Hi.

I considered to prepare a QA upload for this package but I couldn't
reproduce the build failure. Can you still reproduce it and tell me
exactly which packages were used to satisfy the build-dependencies?

As the version in testing is lower than that in stable (security update)
I would really recommend to remove this from testing. The problem is
stated to be fixed in the upstream CVS but after a little digging into
the upstream BTS I found it too much of work to do it in a QA Upload.

(mozart-stdlib and mozart-gtk, the only packages that depend on it
aren't even in testing)

It's orphaned for three months now. We should even consider removing
this from unstable soon.

No, from the information in the bug report I read that you just forgot
to do type "save" and then "exit". "std" and "old" are not intended to
exit, so it isn't a bug. This isn't intuitive or so, but it is the
intended behaviour. Sorry for not commenting when I retitled the bug.

Note that wn is currently not maintained, I just looked through the bug
reports of orphaned packages. When I look at the other bug reports
it seems that it needs badly a new maintainer or should be removed...

Hi.

The attached patch add depencies perl (>= 5.8.0-7)| ... where ... is a
module provided since this perl version.
(It also increases the debhelper dependency to >= 4.1.13 since this is
needed for po-debconf compatibility)

I have also prepared a complete QA upload. I will submit the full patch

Bug#216359: Patch

2003-11-02 Thread Frank Lichtenheld
tags #216359 patch
thanks

A rather simple patch for this issue. I've fully removed all the
directories because I don't know which of them can be generated safely
during build and which are a matter of configuration.

Bug#212231: libvorbis-perl seems to be either missing a dependency or a pm

It seems to miss a dependency on libao-perl which can be found
on http://search.cpan.org/~foof/libao-perl_0.03-1/, is maintained by a
DD ([EMAIL PROTECTED], who seems also to be upstream for libvorbis-perl)
but seems not to be included in Debian, don't know why.

As libvorbis-perl itself is currently orphaned there will probably be
nobody who feels responsible to add and maintain the missing package.

Have you at least one dotfile-* module package installed?
If no, this is likely the cause for the error.
