The problem in my mind is not people being denied access to KDE 3.1.5.
It's that once KDE 3.2 is in sid we more or less become committed to
releasing sarge with 3.2, since we'll no longer be able to upload
bugfixes for KDE 3.1.5.

This means that before sarge freezes we have to not only iron all the
faults out of KDE 3.2, but we also have to locate and fix problems with
3rd-party apps that only appear with KDE 3.2. Depending on when sarge
freezes, this could be a very tight squeeze indeed.

(Specifically I worry about *locating* these 3rd-party problems since it
doesn't leave very much time at all for testing.)

Ben.

Its very simple to use binary updates while keeping the orig.tar.gz
pristine. If its simply a BRANCH update just look at one of the packages
I maintain. I'm using diff -Nrua with uuencode. By the way, Debian's
normal diff method can even fail for UTF-8 (eg .desktop) files, I have
seen this happen myself.

Bug#234435: konqueror: web browsing is broken

2004-02-23 Thread Andreas Pakulat
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:3.1.5-2
Severity: important

Hi,

The web browsing module of the konqueror is unusable as it looks for a
libkhtmlpart.la file, which is not present in kde 4:3.1.5, not in
libkonq4, nor in kdebase ode kdelibs4. There is however a libkhtml.la,
but I don't know if it is the right lib only with the wrong name, but
doing a symlink to it doesn't work.

Changes to the KDE menu system? "kderemove" needed anymore?

2004-02-23 Thread Christopher Martin
Hello,

Will the "kderemove" tag in the Debian menu entries of KDE
applications be required in the future? I recently submitted a
snippet of documentation to make that tag official (with the ultimate
aim of making lintian aware of it).

However, Bill Allombert (a Debian menu maintainer) mentioned to me
that Chris Cheney told him that this tag would not be needed shortly.
Yet when I peer at the kdelibs 3.2.0 source I grabbed from
experimental, the Packaging.txt still refers to "kderemove" as an
important part of a KDE menu entry, while the source for kdegraphics,
etc. flowing through Incoming at the moment has menu entries which
include "kderemove".

So is there some sort of transition occurring which isn't complete at
the moment? For how long will "kderemove" be required?

Thanks for any clarification,
Christopher Martin

I have no idea either :)

Yes, I tried googling, but found nothing useful either.

Err, well, the problem is that I'm no longer sure who it was. I
*think* it was Tom Tromey ( the GCJ speaker ), but that's a guess.

I guess we could send him a mail and ask, but that would be a bit
silly :)

2004-02-23 Thread Rainer Dorsch
Dominique,

I agree, it might be well a function, which might be used mainly by kde/qt of
another package. I am using mozilla and it works fine for me. Question is to
which of the Xserver packages should it be attached. With which reason?

I wanted to search the bug database (in description for all bugs) for blue
lines, but I was not able to do so

Can you get an XF86Config or the output of the X server starting up from this
guy with the blue linesjust to compare with mine and find similarities.

Thanks,
Rainer

New feature idea. When you configure notifications, and you see...

[ ] Play a sound:

...there should be a complimentary option like this...

[ ] Play a sound:
[ ] ...except when this notification has played a sound within the
 last [___] seconds

Kopete in particular exploits this weakness by accident: If you have
any kind of popularity, anything that creates an apparent mass
enterence or exodus, such as connecting to or disconnecting from one
or more IM networks will trigger a sudden cacophony that tends to be
quite startling at any volume.

Bug#234317: kickerrc: After upgrade from v2 kicker is "hiding"

2004-02-23 Thread Ariel Shkedi
Package: kicker
Version: 4:3.1.5-2
Severity: normal
File: kickerrc

After upgrading from V2 the kicker is not visible, pressing ctrl-f2 and
running kcontrol, then choosing Desktop/Panels then selecting size
'normal' for the pannel brings it back. (It was size custom/24.)

This happened for all my users, so it's not something special that one
user changed. It's easy to fix, but it's making it hard to migrate
everyone since I have to login as each and every user and do this.

I saved a copy of .kde/share/config/* before and after the change, but a
number of things changed, so I'm not sure where the problem is.
