Bug#265264: kde-core: KIconLoader garbage (maybe upstream bug?)

2004-08-12 Thread Jan Albiez
Package: kde-core
Version: 4:3.1.2
Severity: normal

Whenever I start a KDE application I get a lot of errors in the
following form:
kdecore (KIconLoader): WARNING: Icon directory /usr/share/icons/hicolor/ group
WWxHH/path

That means I have a lot of garbage in .xsession-errors or on a
konsole/xterm. A google search shows, that this is might be not debian
specific, but I think its better to have a bug report, so that people
kno its not a normal behaviour...

Bug#265322: DCOP-Server: Running a KDE program as root causes the next start of KDE to fail

2004-08-12 Thread Holger Wansing
Package: kdelibs-bin
Version: 4:3.2.2-2
Severity: normal

Open a shell as user user, su to root, and start a KDE program like
konqueror, will change the ownership of the /home/user/.ICEauthority file
from user to root.
I'm not sure, if this is intended, but it ends up in a big
problem: the next time when trying to start KDE at this user,
it doesn't start, because the dcopserver has no write-access to
the .ICEauthority file.
KDE shows a error message telling about this permission problem.

I saw this problem already at KDE 2.2.2 in stable.

Yes, I believe it is intentional. The beta version in experimental shows more
clearly that it is an error code:
Error opening the wallet 'kdewallet'. Please try again.
(Error code -7: Read error - possibly incorrect password.)

Still not the best of usability, but definitely better. I too was confused by
the original version.

Since it's pretty unclear what that -7 means in the current (3.2.x) error
message, and since it will be much clearer in 3.3, I think the correct thing
to do is tag this bug fixed-in-experimental and leave it open until 3.3 hits
sid.

Cheers,
nate

Bug#265344: arts: arts: does not work with libao2 on powerpc/sid

2004-08-12 Thread Brian M. Carlson
Package: arts
Version: 1.2.3-1
Severity: important

When using mpg321 or ogg123 (or any program that uses libao2) on
either of my powerpc/sid machines, I get a hissing from the
speakers. This only happens when I use artsd, and not when I use the
alsa output plugin. If you want to reassign to libao2, that's fine
with me. If you need an strace (or ltrace, if it's supported on
powerpc) just let me know.
