Bug#1070807: konsole: Konsole did not close redundant FDs when creating shell process in terminal session

2024-05-09 Thread anthony
Package: konsole
Version: 4:23.08.1-1+b1
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: lkphantom1...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
The terminal did not close redundant FDs when creating shell process.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
   * What was the outcome of this action?
The shell process has many unexpected redundant FDs, and those FDs
   were inherit from konsole.
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
The terminal emulator should not leave any redundant FDs for shell
   process.

Today I found my Zsh comes with 157 FDs, in common sense zsh won't
create such large amount open files. Then I tried command
'konsole -e /bin/sleep 1', even through, the sleep process also
has 100+ FDs that shouldn't exists.

By comparing the FDs' number, those FDs were inherit from konsole.

I thought you may close redundant FDs before creating shell process,
   or use CLOEXEC flag.

This is my test output in konsole:
   % uname -r
   6.1.27.xeon.ll
   % ls /proc/self/fd | wc -l
   157
   % ls /proc/$PPID/fd | wc -l
   179
   % cat /proc/$PPID/cmdline| tr '\0' ' '
   /usr/bin/konsole --new-tab
   %

Bug#996550: libqt5gui5: Trap in LibQXCB-GLX with 100% cpu usage after QOpenGLContext::create() called

2021-10-15 Thread anthony
Package: libqt5gui5
Version: 5.15.2+dfsg-9
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: lkphantom1...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

I'm stuck up when calling QOpenGLContext::create(), it didn't return, and one
cpu
was totally occupied by QSGRenderThread, it looks like dead loop occurs in that
thread.

this's not always happening; and sometimes UI rendering error (like unexpected
chessboard-like pattern shows up in my GL render area) happens before this
problem
occurs.

i'm using libGLX_mesa, and i'm not sure which side should responsible for this
problem, so i send this bugreport to you.

Regards,

Bug#993017: plasma-workspace: Desktop freeze and occupies two CPU core (dead loop)

2021-08-26 Thread anthony
Package: plasma-workspace

Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

The plasma desktop were freeze very frequently after i upgrade to this
version (4:5.20.5-6). The process 'plasmashell' bring 1 to 2 CPUs trapped
into dead loop when problem occurs. I highly doubt the problem were relative
to notification module (most cases happens while notification were flood by
some apps, but that won't trigger this problem in elder version).

I've got some STDOUT log from 'plasmashell' while problem happen:

Dear Maintainer,

The volume indicator and slider **always** shows wrong volume level
(-2,147,483,648%,
equivalent to 0x8000 in int32_t). The problem didn't affect actual volume
level,
and i could still change the actual volume by swipe the slider(but
-2,147,483,648% will

Bug#962531: rocs: Should require dependency qml-module-qtqml-statemachine

2020-06-09 Thread Anthony Labarre
Package: rocs
Version: 4:17.08.3-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

It is possible to run rocs without qml-module-qtqml-statemachine, but the
toolbar that allows the manual creation of graphs is missing and impossible to
obtain. Installing qml-module-qtqml-statemachine partially fixes the issue (I
have missing icons in the toolbar but that must be related to another
dependency which I have yet to track down).

Bug#905047: plasma-widget-weather: Shorten too-long titles

2018-07-30 Thread Anthony DeRobertis
Package: plasma-widgets-addons
Version: 4:5.13.2-1
Severity: normal

After rebooting today, my desktop weather widget is suddenly much wider,
apparently because my weather station is:

Washington/Dulles International Airport, DC, VA

That leads to a very wide, silly-looking layout, screenshot attached.

Really ought to be a way to shorten the title. For example, 'Dulles
Airport' would be perfectly clear and fit nicely. Alternatively, a
smaller font would work — or an option to hide the station name
entirely.

while hopefully the database itself is in my home director and
mode go-rw, the same can't be said for syslog and journal. This violates
user privacy on a multi-user system as the sysadmin is expected to read
syslog, but respect the privacy of $HOME. In addition, syslog and
journal are available to members of group adm, who may not have root.

From the journal, it appears that kactivymanagerd may be speweing this
to stdout, which is ultimately being picked up by systemd (I think
that's what _TRANSPORT of stdout means):

It reproduces with 4:5.8.7-1. I was planning on testing it on an Intel

weekend. I'll forward it upstream once I've tested there.

Bug#856195: sddm: /usr/share/sddm/faces/username.face.icon is ignored

2017-02-27 Thread Anthony
Package: sddm
Version: 0.14.0-2
Bug#856195

I solved by downloading the source package sddm, edited the file
“sddm-0.14.0/src/greeter/UserModel.cpp” and applied these changes:
...
const QString facesDir = mainConfig.Theme.FacesDir.get();
- const QString defaultFace = QStringLiteral("file://%1/.fac
e.icon").arg(facesDir);
+ const QString defaultFace = QStringLiteral("%1/.face.icon"
).arg(facesDir);
...
// search for face icon
user->icon = defaultFace;

+   QString userFace = QStringLiteral("%1/.face.icon").arg(user->homeDir);
+   if (QFile::exists(userFace))
+ user->icon = userFace;
...

and compiled with:
cd sddm-0.14.0
debuild -i -us -uc -b -d
cd ..
dpkg -i sddm_0.14.0-2_amd64.deb
apt-mark hold sddm
systemctl daemon-reload
systemctl restart sddm

After restart the service, the icons have reappeared.

Bug#846389: plasma-workspace: random plasmashell freezes

2017-01-12 Thread Anthony
Package: plasma-workspace
Version: 4:5.8.4-1
Bug: #846389

Today was released xserver 1.19.1.

So I have reinstalled xserver-xorg-core 2:1.19.0-3 and verified the return
of the problem.

Subsequently I have compiled new source and reinstalled it on existing
packages.

After logout and relogin I have tested my system and... no problem!

Then I Restored previous version 2:1.18.4-2, I will wait new version
provided by the distro.

Thanks

Bug#805399: Appears to normally send debug logs to ~/.xsession-errors, not really welcome there either.

2015-11-18 Thread Anthony DeRobertis
Package: kded5
Version: 5.15.0-1
Followup-For: Bug #805399

It appears when it's first started, kded5 dumps that debug log to
~/.xsession-errors, not syslog. That's much better, but still a huge
waste of disk space—especially since that log isn't rotated until
logout/login (which is often months).

Bug#805399: Logged every file name in $HOME to syslog

2015-11-17 Thread Anthony DeRobertis
Package: kded5
Version: 5.15.0-1
Severity: important
File: /usr/bin/kded5

Apparently kded5 got restarted automatically (after killing it, see bug
805320). And after that, it decided to send its log output to syslog.

Quite a bit of output — almost 300,000 lines. All of it at (according to
journalctl) at priority 4 (warning).

That included, at least, logging lines like the following for every file
in my home directory:

Nov 16 18:22:50 Zia org.kde.kded5[4940]: log_kioremote:
RemoteDirNotify::toRemoteURL(
QUrl("file:///home/anthony/Audio/Monsters_data/b00013.au") )
Nov 16 18:22:50 Zia org.kde.kded5[4940]: log_kioremote: result => KUrl()

Depending on setup, that's already a privacy violation. Even if not,
receiving a 50MB email from logcheck was *not* welcome.

It then went further, and logged all *activity*. E.g., here is after two
emails were delivered:

Nov 17 06:03:25 Zia org.kde.kded5[4940]: ()
Nov 17 06:03:25 Zia org.kde.kded5[4940]:
("/home/anthony/Maildir/new/1447758191.M94023P12683VFB03I00085B60_0.Zia,S=2252",

"/home/anthony/Maildir/new/1447758191.M922165P12691VFB03I00085B67_0.Zia,S=5625")
Nov 17 06:03:25 Zia org.kde.kded5[4940]: ()

QUrl("file:///home/anthony/Maildir/new/1447758191.M94023P12683VFB03I00085B60_0.Zia,S=2252")
 )
Nov 17 06:03:25 Zia org.kde.kded5[4940]: log_kioremote: result => KUrl()
Nov 17 06:03:25 Zia org.kde.kded5[4940]: log_kioremote:

 )
Nov 17 06:03:25 Zia org.kde.kded5[4940]: log_kioremote: result => KUrl()

Again, a privacy violation.

It also seems to log every hotkey executed. E.g., I used my xterm
hotkey, and this hit syslog:

Nov 17 13:01:55 Zia org.kde.kded5[4940]: org.kde.kurifilter-shorturi: "xterm"
Nov 17 13:01:55 Zia org.kde.kded5[4940]: org.kde.kurifilter-shorturi: path =
"xterm" isLocalFullPath= false exists= false url= QUrl("xterm")
Nov 17 13:01:55 Zia org.kde.kded5[4940]: org.kde.kurifilter-ikws: "xterm" :
QUrl("file:xterm") , type = 3
Nov 17 13:01:55 Zia org.kde.kded5[4940]: org.kde.kurifilter-ikws: "xterm"

It appears kded5 is built with a *lot* of debug output turned on—that
really ought not happen without e.g., some --debug option. And remember,
it's currently all at warning priority, not debug.

Bug#805320: Destroys hotkey configuration

2015-11-16 Thread Anthony DeRobertis
Package: kded5
Version: 5.15.0-1
Severity: grave
File: /usr/bin/kded5

I upgraded to the most recent KDE fairly recently—a week or two ago.

My machine crashed, and upon rebooting and logging back in all my custom
hotkeys had vanished. First, I attempted to restore a backup of
~/.config/khotkeysrc but found it to *also* bee missing all the hot
keys, despite being a backup from after configuring it and before the
machine crashed.

So I went ahead and opened up system settings and started trying to
enter them in again. I noticed when I created a new group, khotkeysrc
got bigger as expected... but then a short while later was reset! No
further edits seemed to make the file change, except mtime. Note that
the Custom Shortcuts settings show that the keybinds are there, and they
work just fine—until you log out, of course.

Checking with fatrace, "apply" in Custom Shortcuts does this:

... and confirming it's kded5, doing `kill -STOP 4983` left the file
with my settings in it (though systemsettings hung at that point).
Killing kded5 made a mess of KDE and crashed system settings, but I
re-launched custom shortcuts without kded5 running, and now the file
changes as expected. Tried with several "apply"s, all of them save as
expected.

Further testing, I restarted kded5 (just from an xterm) and then after
the next "apply" in Custom Shortcuts, khotkeysrc again was reset to
defaults.

Bug#733816: khotkeys launches actions with SIGHUP blocked, leading to unclosable xterms

2013-12-31 Thread Anthony DeRobertis
Package: kde-workspace-bin
Version: 4:4.11.3-2
Severity: normal

I have a hotkey to launch an xterm. This worked before the most recent
aptitude upgrade to track testing, but now when I launch an xterm that
way, clicking the kwin close button (or picking close from the kwin
menu) does nothing; the xterm sticks around.

After searching for a while, I compared an strace of each, and it seems
that khotkeys is starting xterm with SIGHUP blocked/masked, and that's
causing the issue.

khotkeys probably shouldn't have signals masked when starting commands.

Bug#733816: khotkeys launches actions with SIGHUP blocked, leading to unclosable xterms

Indeed it appears I might be:

7ffe0001 /usr/bin/knotify4

7ffe0001 /usr/bin/kmix

Those akonadi_agent* and pidgin ones do indeed look like addresses.

I've got nvidia-kernel-dkms 331.20-2 (from experimental), which is one
of the affected versions, apparently.

Interestingly, though, on one of the affected xterms, the mask is:

anthony@Zia:~$ grep SigBlk /proc/3289/status
SigBlk: 0001

so that seems to be sane... except for HUP being ignored. Its parent
kdeinit4: kded4 [kdeinit] has the same.

So I'm unsure if this is really bug 728743 or not :-(

Bug#720770: Memory limit appears ignored

2013-08-25 Thread Anthony DeRobertis
Package: virtuoso-opensource-6.1-bin
Version: 6.1.4+dfsg1-7
Severity: important
File: /usr/bin/virtuoso-t

In the KDE desktop search settings, the 'maximum amount of main memory
for the database process' is configured as 150 MB.

anthony@Heisenberg:~$ ps ww 23404

That RSS is ~1500MB, an order of magnitude greater than the limit. A

Bug#512073: konqueror: Kontact URL open with Konqueror gives crash report

2009-01-16 Thread Paul Anthony Judd
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:3.5.5a.dfsg.1-6etch2
Severity: minor

When clicking on URL in Kontact Mail and opening with default Konqueror,
I regularly get Konqueror crash report (see below) but I am still able
to view the page and follow links on it in new tab albeit I get another
identical crash report. Using TWM as KDE has become sluggish lately.
It appears embbeded animations are the cause.

Bug#267893: kappfinder: should handle removal too

2004-08-24 Thread Anthony Labarre
Package: kappfinder
Version: 4:3.3.0-1
Severity: wishlist

kappfinder does its job pretty well as far as _adding_ items to the start menu
is concerned, but when it comes to removal it is unfortunately not the case. I
don't know if what I'm requesting is actually supposed to be implemented and
working, which is why I'm reporting this as a wishlist bug, but it would be
nice to have kappfinder remove obsolete entries in the start menu - I have no
use for a Lost Found - Gnome Control Center item pointing to
/usr/bin/gnome-control-center when the gnome-control-center package has long
since been removed and purged).

Bug#266760: kde: kde crashes X when quitting

2004-08-18 Thread Anthony Labarre
Package: kdebase-bin
Version: 4:3.3.0-1
Severity: critical
File: kde
Justification: breaks the whole system

I've had this problem for weeks if not months, and it is very annoying. I
haven't
been able to locate _exactly_ where the problem comes from, but it happens very
often that, when I quit KDE (be it by logging out, restarting or turning off my
computer), the screen becomes black with the mouse pointer centered, and
everything freezes. I then have no choice but to power off my system manually.

The only thing I'm sure about is that the problem is somewhere in the base
packages of KDE: this bug only happens when I use KDE (I've been using gnome,
xfce4 and others to test X, but this *never* happened with others window/desktop
managers), and closing all apps before exiting makes no change.

I've rebuilt some of my packages with apt-build (never using higher levels than
-02 plus a few extra safe options) and I wondered if this had something to do
with the unstability of my system under KDE, but I don't think so; since I use
apt-get dist-upgrade on a daily basis, surely most of - if not all - those
packages have long since been replaced.

Dying to read a solution ... KDE is such a great environment with such great
apps, but this is really getting on my nerves. More and more.

Bug#261091: kdeprint: KPrinter Issues Warning When Run

2004-07-23 Thread Anthony L. Awtrey
Package: kdeprint
Version: 4:3.2.2-1

The kprinter command is supposed to be able to be used like lpr, but
an error/warning that appears when it is run is confusing some
applications that expect lpr-type responses. Here is the example:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ kprinter
kprinter: WARNING: KGenericFactory: instance requested but no instance
name passed to the constructor!

Is there a way to either fix this so it operates silently again?

Things seemed to look good, got the KDE choose language, look etc, and even
the KDM login screen. But after doing so all I get is the Debian logo
desktop with no toolbars or other usable functions.
I jump to another tty and being a newbie try to restart X (all this as root -
yes horribly inproper I know but until I work out how to give a user a bit
more power that's what I'll stick with) and get the following error;

xlib: connection to :0.0 refused by server
xlib: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key
giving up
Xinit: unable to connect to X server
Xinit: No such process (errno 3): server error

I have attempted to serach for answers on the internet, but being a newbie
I'm lost and now ask for some easy to understand help.
I'm not a big one for tar balls and stuff, prefering the apt-get way so any
thing in that domain to help me get X 4.3 with KDE and Woody going would be
most appreciated.

A while I'm at it, is it at all possible to have Sarge and KDE? From what
I've read, it seems not, instead I have to go to sid.
