Bug#1070807: konsole: Konsole did not close redundant FDs when creating shell process in terminal session
Package: konsole Version: 4:23.08.1-1+b1 Severity: important X-Debbugs-Cc: lkphantom1...@gmail.com Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? The terminal did not close redundant FDs when creating shell process. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? * What was the outcome of this action? The shell process has many unexpected redundant FDs, and those FDs were inherit from konsole. * What outcome did you expect instead? The terminal emulator should not leave any redundant FDs for shell process. Today I found my Zsh comes with 157 FDs, in common sense zsh won't create such large amount open files. Then I tried command 'konsole -e /bin/sleep 1', even through, the sleep process also has 100+ FDs that shouldn't exists. By comparing the FDs' number, those FDs were inherit from konsole. I thought you may close redundant FDs before creating shell process, or use CLOEXEC flag. This is my test output in konsole: % uname -r 6.1.27.xeon.ll % ls /proc/self/fd | wc -l 157 % ls /proc/$PPID/fd | wc -l 179 % cat /proc/$PPID/cmdline| tr '\0' ' ' /usr/bin/konsole --new-tab % -- System Information: Debian Release: trixie/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 6.1.27.xeon.ll (SMP w/8 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_USER Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_US:en Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages konsole depends on: ii kio5.107.0-1+b2 ii konsole-kpart 4:23.08.1-1+b1 ii libc6 2.37-19 ii libkf5configcore5 5.107.0-1+b2 ii libkf5configwidgets5 5.107.0-2+b2 ii libkf5coreaddons5 5.107.0-1+b2 ii libkf5crash5 5.107.0-1+b2 ii libkf5dbusaddons5 5.107.0-1+b2 ii libkf5globalaccel-bin 5.107.0-2+b2 ii libkf5globalaccel5 5.107.0-2+b2 ii libkf5guiaddons5 5.107.0-1+b2 ii libkf5i18n55.107.0-1+b2 ii libkf5kiowidgets5 5.107.0-1+b2 ii libkf5notifyconfig55.107.0-1+b4 ii libkf5service-bin 5.107.0-1+b2 ii libkf5service5 5.107.0-1+b2 ii libkf5widgetsaddons5 5.107.0-1+b2 ii libkf5windowsystem55.107.0-1+b2 ii libkf5xmlgui5 5.107.0-1+b2 ii libqt5core5t64 5.15.10+dfsg-7.2+b1 ii libqt5gui5t64 5.15.10+dfsg-7.2+b1 ii libqt5widgets5t64 5.15.10+dfsg-7.2+b1 ii libstdc++6 14-20240330-1 konsole recommends no packages. Package: libqt5gui5 Version: 5.15.2+dfsg-9 Severity: important X-Debbugs-Cc: lkphantom1...@gmail.com Dear Maintainer, I'm stuck up when calling QOpenGLContext::create(), it didn't return, and one cpu was totally occupied by QSGRenderThread, it looks like dead loop occurs in that thread. this's not always happening; and sometimes UI rendering error (like unexpected chessboard-like pattern shows up in my GL render area) happens before this problem occurs. i'm using libGLX_mesa, and i'm not sure which side should responsible for this problem, so i send this bugreport to you. Package: sddm Version: 0.14.0-2 Bug#856195 I solved by downloading the source package sddm, edited the file “sddm-0.14.0/src/greeter/UserModel.cpp” and applied these changes: ... const QString facesDir = mainConfig.Theme.FacesDir.get(); - const QString defaultFace = QStringLiteral("file://%1/.fac e.icon").arg(facesDir); + const QString defaultFace = QStringLiteral("%1/.face.icon" ).arg(facesDir); ... // search for face icon user->icon = defaultFace; + QString userFace = QStringLiteral("%1/.face.icon").arg(user->homeDir); + if (QFile::exists(userFace)) + user->icon = userFace; ... and compiled with: cd sddm-0.14.0 debuild -i -us -uc -b -d cd .. dpkg -i sddm_0.14.0-2_amd64.deb apt-mark hold sddm systemctl daemon-reload systemctl restart sddm After restart the service, the icons have reappeared. Bug#846389: plasma-workspace: random plasmashell freezes
Package: plasma-workspace Version: 4:5.8.4-1 Bug: #846389 Today was released xserver 1.19.1. So I have reinstalled xserver-xorg-core 2:1.19.0-3 and verified the return of the problem. Subsequently I have compiled new source and reinstalled it on existing packages. After logout and relogin I have tested my system and... no problem! Then I Restored previous version 2:1.18.4-2, I will wait new version provided by the distro. Thanks
Bug#805399: Appears to normally send debug logs to ~/.xsession-errors, not really welcome there either.
Package: kded5 Version: 5.15.0-1 Followup-For: Bug #805399 It appears when it's first started, kded5 dumps that debug log to ~/.xsession-errors, not syslog. Bug#805399: Logged every file name in $HOME to syslog
Package: kded5 Version: 5.15.0-1 Severity: important File: /usr/bin/kded5 Apparently kded5 got restarted automatically (after killing it, see bug 805320). And after that, it decided to send its log output to syslog. Quite a bit of output — almost 300,000 lines. All of it at (according to journalctl) at priority 4 (warning). That included, at least, logging lines like the following for every file in my home directory: Nov 16 18:22:50 Zia org.kde.kded5[4940]: log_kioremote: RemoteDirNotify::toRemoteURL( QUrl("file:///home/anthony/Audio/Monsters_data/b00013.au") ) Nov 16 18:22:50 Zia org.kde.kded5[4940]: log_kioremote: result => KUrl() Depending on setup, that's already a privacy violation. Even if not, receiving a 50MB email from logcheck was *not* welcome. It then went further, and logged all *activity*. Bug#805320: Destroys hotkey configuration
Package: kded5 Version: 5.15.0-1 Severity: grave File: /usr/bin/kded5 I upgraded to the most recent KDE fairly recently—a week or two ago. My machine crashed, and upon rebooting and logging back in all my custom hotkeys had vanished. First, I attempted to restore a backup of ~/.config/khotkeysrc but found it to *also* bee missing all the hot keys, despite being a backup from after configuring it and before the machine crashed. So I went ahead and opened up system settings and started trying to enter them in again. I noticed when I created a new group, khotkeysrc got bigger as expected... but then a short while later was reset! No further edits seemed to make the file change, except mtime. Note that the Custom Shortcuts settings show that the keybinds are there, and they work just fine—until you log out, of course. Killing kded5 made a mess of KDE and crashed system settings, but I re-launched custom shortcuts without kded5 running, and now the file changes as expected. Tried with several "apply"s, all of them save as expected. Further testing, I restarted kded5 (just from an xterm) and then after the next "apply" in Custom Shortcuts, khotkeysrc again was reset to defaults. -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (200, 'unstable'), (150, 'stable'), (100, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 4.3.0-trunk-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages kded5 depends on: ii libc6 2.19-22 ii libkf5configcore5 5.15.0-1 ii libkf5coreaddons5 5.15.0-1 ii libkf5crash5 5.15.0-1 ii libkf5dbusaddons5 5.15.0-1 ii libkf5service-bin 5.15.0+-1 ii libkf5service5 5.15.0+-1 ii libqt5core5a 5.5.1+dfsg-6 ii libqt5dbus55.5.1+dfsg-6 ii libqt5gui5 5.5.1+dfsg-6 ii libqt5widgets5 5.5.1+dfsg-6 ii libstdc++6 5.2.1-23 kded5 recommends no packages. kded5 suggests no packages. -- no debconf information
Bug#733816: khotkeys launches actions with SIGHUP blocked, leading to unclosable xterms
Package: kde-workspace-bin Version: 4:4.11.3-2 Severity: normal I have a hotkey to launch an xterm. After searching for a while, I compared an strace of each, and it seems that khotkeys is starting xterm with SIGHUP blocked/masked, and that's causing the issue. khotkeys probably shouldn't have signals masked when starting commands. Bug#266760: kde: kde crashes X when quitting
Package: kdebase-bin Version: 4:3.3.0-1 Severity: critical File: kde Justification: breaks the whole system I've had this problem for weeks if not months, and it is very annoying. I haven't been able to locate _exactly_ where the problem comes from, but it happens very often that, when I quit KDE (be it by logging out, restarting or turning off my computer), the screen becomes black with the mouse pointer centered, and everything freezes. I then have no choice but to power off my system manually. The only thing I'm sure about is that the problem is somewhere in the base packages of KDE: this bug only happens when I use KDE (I've been using gnome, xfce4 and others to test X, but this *never* happened with others window/desktop managers), and closing all apps before exiting makes no change. I've rebuilt some of my packages with apt-build (never using higher levels than -02 plus a few extra safe options) and I wondered if this had something to do with the unstability of my system under KDE, but I don't think so; since I use apt-get dist-upgrade on a daily basis, surely most of - if not all - those packages have long since been replaced. Dying to read a solution ... KDE is such a great environment with such great apps, but this is really getting on my nerves. Bug#261091: kdeprint: KPrinter Issues Warning When Run
Package: kdeprint Version: 4:3.2.2-1 Severity: normal The kprinter command is supposed to be able to be used like lpr, but an error/warning that appears when it is run is confusing some applications that expect lpr-type responses. Bug#194248: Still current ?
On Wed, 10 Dec 2003 02:02, Dominique Devriese wrote: Hi, Thanks for the bug report. Can you please check if this bug still occurs with more recent KDE ( 3.* ) packages ? Thanks domi i haven't updated yet but some one else has same problem, heres tere emails: #initial email# Woody with KDE 3.1 and XFree86 4.3 From: Geoff Maclean [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] My video card seems to have been a poor choice - a Leadtek WinFast A 180 DDR (Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X). I'm a newbie and have had many experimental moments trying to get X to start. I've previously tried updating to sarge and I also added deb http://www.schuldei.org/debian/bruby/ ./ to my sources.list to get a better XFree86. The result worked but that took away KDE and I'm a van of KDE over gnome or others. So then I tried to go to sid but that was too much for my modem connection (plus I got confused about apt-get resuming etc as the packages would have changed each night.) I then went back to Woody and stuck with stable but thought I'd go with XFree86 4.3 using deb ftp://linux.upsa.es/pub/XFREE4.3/ ./ and at the same time thought I'd get a later KDE by adding deb http://download.kde.org/stable/3.1.4/Debian stable main Things seemed to look good, got the KDE choose language, look etc, and even the KDM login screen. But after doing so all I get is the Debian logo desktop with no toolbars or other usable functions. I jump to another tty and being a newbie try to restart X (all this as root - yes horribly inproper I know but until I work out how to give a user a bit more power that's what I'll stick with) and get the following error; xlib: connection to :0.0 refused by server xlib: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key giving up Xinit: unable to connect to X server Xinit: No such process (errno 3): server error I have attempted to serach for answers on the internet, but being a newbie I'm lost and now ask for some easy to understand help. I'm not a big one for tar balls and stuff, prefering the apt-get way so any thing in that domain to help me get X 4.3 with KDE and Woody going would be most appreciated. A while I'm at it, is it at all possible to have Sarge and KDE? From what I've read, it seems not, instead I have to go to sid. Geoff Maclean --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
