Bug#301001: catastrophe
The original subject was bad. I should have written: "KMail freezes very often" in stead of: "KMail freezes sometimes". I thought, emptying my trash folder with over 15,000 mails might reduce the time such a KMail freezes takes but then I had the problem that emptying the folder took **very** long. 8.5 hours(!!!) after starting the emptying process there were still over 13,900(!!!) e-mails left. I should note that while emptying the trash folder, KMail consumed approximately 90% of CPU time. I killed KMail via xkill and deleted the e-mails by deleting the contents of trash/cur. Now KMail still seems to suffer from the freezes. This bug should get high priority since, as I've shown, it is very serious. Thanks. Package: kmail Version: 4:3.3.2-0pre1 Severity: important KMail sometimes hangs for a certain amount of time (maybe about 30 seconds but it's possible that I err here). I think, this problem started after upgrading to this very version. Bug#289925: konqueror: ignores default font size setting
Am Freitag, 14. Januar 2005 07:28 schrieb Adeodato Simó: > Where do you have it set to 11? Where do you change it? AFAICT, you should > be using Konqueror -> Settings -> Configure Konqueror -> Fonts Tab, and not > the Control Center. I used Konqueror -> Settings -> Configure Konqueror... -> Appearance -> Font size. I didn't recognize Konqueror -> Settings -> Configure Konqueror... -> Fonts. If the latter is the place to configure the font size, what is the Appearance -> Font size setting for? Why isn't the actual font size changed when changing Appearance -> Font size? In addition, the font size is too large as I already mentioned. After experimenting a bit with the X server's -dpi switch I've come to the conclusion that Konqueror's HTML viewer doesn't honor the X server's dpi setting but always assumes 100 dpi instead. So if you start the X server with -dpi 100, Konqueror works correctly. If you start the X server without the -dpi switch (as it is the default with KDM in Debian now), you get a setting of 75 dpi. This results in the HTML text being displayed (100 dpi - 75dpi) / 75 dpi = 33 % too large and you have to set Fonts -> Medium font size to 8 in order to get a font size of approximately 11. Best wishes, Wolfgang

I tried it out. Paragraph changes were not displayed when I started to compose a new message. I inserted some typical HTML stuff (list items), saved the message and started to edit it again. Now empty lines were shown at paragraph changes. In addition, I discovered that when you create unnumbered list items, nothing special appears in the plain text version. List items are handled like ordinary paragraphs. In my opinion, there should be something like indentation combined with a bullet replacement like an asterisk to make clear that we have list items. (Evolution used to do it this way.) Paragraph changes are still represented by just a line break in the plain text version of the mail. I still couldn't find a possibility to insert an ordinary line break. Best wishes, Wolfgang
Bug#289551: konqueror: displays wrong fonts
Package: konqueror Version: 4:3.3.2-0pre1 Severity: normal I had set all fonts in the KControl font selection except the monospace font to Bitstream Vera Sans. Konqueror's default font was set to Bitstream Vera Sans, too. I changed the fonts in KControl to some Nimbus thing and then back to Bitstream Vera Sans. But now normal text (not headlines etc.) was displayed with a serif font. I changed the Konqueror font to Bitstream Vera Sans Mono and Dingbats but neither of them resulted in the expected font change. After finally changing Konqueror's font back to Bitstream Vera Sans, I saw the sans serif font again. But when I reduced the font size via the toolbar, I saw again a serif font. I cannot see the reason for this behavior. Bug#289153: different behavior under KDE 3.3.2 in SuSE Linux
I was told recently that under SuSE Linux 9.1 with KDE 3.3.2 no blank line is displayed after a paragraph.
Bug#289153: kmail: bad support for paragraph changes and linebreaks
Package: kmail Version: 4:3.3.1-3 Severity: normal If I compose a new message and press Enter with the cursor in the message body, a new paragraph is created. This means that in the HTML source code the sequence is inserted. In the plain text version, just a newline character is inserted. In my opinion, this behavior concerning plain text is not very nice. It is usual practice to insert a blank line to denote the beginning of a new paragraph since otherwise you cannot distinguish between paragraph changes and ordinary linebreaks. (An "ordinary linebreak" would occur, for example in this text: Best regards, Wolfgang Jeltsch) On the other hand, KMail *displays* the HTML paragraph changes () by inserting a blank line. But this is ugly, in my opinion. KMail should use a smaller gap between the paragraphs. Inserting blank lines is a solution for plain text where no smaller gaps are possible. So pressing Enter should result in in the HTML source code which should be displayed via a small gap between the paragraphs, and it should result in a blank line in the plain text version. In addition, it should be possible to insert ordinary linebreaks. These should result in just a linebreak in the plain text version of the mail and in in the HTML version. Paragraph changes are bad for things like the "Best regards" example above. It would be bad to have a blank line or even a smaller gap between "Best regards," and "Wolfgang Jeltsch", and in addition it would be semantically incorrect to have both strings in different paragraphs. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i586) Kernel: Linux 2.6.7-pike Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Versions of packages kmail depends on: ii kdelibs4 4:3.3.1-4 KDE core libraries ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-20 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libgcc1 1:3.4.3-6 GCC support library ii libice6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libkcal2 4:3.3.1-3 KDE calendaring library ii libkdenetwork24:3.3.1-3 KDE Network library ii libkdepim14:3.3.1-3 KDE PIM library ii libkleopatra0a4:3.3.1-3 KDE GnuPG interface libraries ii libkpimidentities14:3.3.1-3 KDE PIM user identity information ii libksieve04:3.3.1-3 KDE mail/news message filtering li ii libmimelib1a 4:3.3.1-3 KDE mime library ii libpng12-01.2.8rel-1 PNG library - runtime ii libqt3c102-mt 3:3.3.3-7 Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libsm64.3.0.dfsg.1-8 X Window System Session Management ii libstdc++51:3.3.5-5 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8 X Window System protocol client li ii libxext6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii perl 5.8.4-3Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii xlibs 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8 X Window System client libraries m ii zlib1g1:1.2.2-3 compression library - runtime -- no debconf information

additional KDE programs
Hello, what about programs written for KDE which are not part of the KDE project. Will the sid versions of these programs have a chance to enter sarge before its release or won't they have this chance because they depend on parts of KDE 3.3? Take for example K3b. Version 0.11.16 has an important bugfix but isn't installable under sarge because it depends on kdelibs4 >= 4:3.3.0. Another example is knoda. knoda isn't even part of sarge and the sid version also depends on kdelibs4 >= 4:3.3.0. Best regards, Wolfgang
Bug#273724: kcontrol (keyboard_layout): cannot activate compose key functionality
Package: kcontrol Version: 4:3.2.2-1 Severity: normal I go to the "Xkb options"*) tab in the keyboard_layout KControl module and check the "Compose key" box and several subordinate boxes like "Use menu key as compose key". After having pressed "Ok", all key presses are ignored. (Or maybe only some key presses are ignored or key presses are ignored only in certain situations. I don't remember exactly and I don't want to try it right now, since I probably wouldn't be able to finish this bug report then. :-)) After restarting KDE, the keyboard works again but no key is used as a compose key. So the keyboard works exactly the way it had before when no compose-key-related checkbox was checked. If I enter setxkbmap -option compose:ralt or setxkbmap -option compose:menu manually in Konsole while KDE is running, the respective keys work as compose keys. However, if I enter setxkbmap -option compose:rwin and press the right Windows key afterwards, I'm not able to enter anything on the current Konsole anymore. If I switch to another running Konsole, I'm able to enter characters and if I switch back to the first Konsole, entering characters works again. If I don't have KDE running, I'm also able to make the right Windows key a compse key via directly using setxkbmap. *) I use German localization. Throughout this whole bug report I will translate the German texts back into English. The original English texts might differ. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i586) Kernel: Linux 2.6.7-pike Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Versions of packages kcontrol depends on: ii kdebase-data 4:3.2.2-1 KDE Base (shared data) ii kdelibs4 4:3.2.3-2 KDE core libraries ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.16-6 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libasound2 1.0.5-1 Advanced Linux Sound Architecture ii libaudio2 1.6d-2The Network Audio System (NAS).
