Hi,

Please unblock dkimproxy and push it to Lenny. It fixes an important
unix rights issue for the domain keys that my package generates. The
public key is now world readable, and the private one is now only
readable by the dkimproxy user and root.

Thanks and sorry for my silly mistake with the 2 keys rights.

mozilla-dom-inspector is a new package, that provides
iceweasel-dom-inspector that used to be shipped by iceweasel in version
2.0 and earlier, but is not in version 3.0.

Please allow it in Lenny.

Re: Seeking pre-approval for unifont update for Lenny

2008-08-18 Thread Paul Hardy
In speaking with Debian Developer Changwoo Ryu, maintainer of bf-utf,
xfonts-baekmuk, and other packages, he told me that the Hanterm fonts
have previously been removed from Debian because of concerns over
ambiguity of their license. The "unifont" Debian package has always
used Hanterm fonts as the basis of its Hangul Syllables block
(U+AC00..U+D7A3). This is 11,172 glyphs in all -- approximately 1/6
of the entire font. Older "unifont" packages (not the ones I
assembled for Debian) also used Hanterm fonts in the U+1100..U+11FF
range (I redrew that range with lighter-weight glyphs).

I got the copy of the Hanterm fonts that I used in the "unifont"
package from a FreeBSD distribution that stated that those fonts were
released under GPL. Fedora also listed them under GPL. However, if
there was concern over ambiguity with the licensing of those fonts in
Debian in the past enough to cause their removal elsewhere in Debian,
it seems necessary to remove any trace of them from the "unifont"
package (and anywhere else they might still be lurking unnoticed).

I would therefore like to upload a new version of the "unifont"
package that does the following:

* Deletes the font/hangul directory.

* Replaces the font/hexsrc/rc-hangul.hex file with a new rc-hangul.hex
file generated from the Hangul Syllables block in Changwoo Ryu's
modified unifont.bdf file in his bf-utf-source Debian package.

* Update any documentation accordingly.

* Fix the debian/control description for the "unifont" package noting
that it is now more than just a metapackage (to close minor bug
494662).

No source code will change. The glyph changes can be done quickly
with software I've been using for over half a year, so I consider the
font modification to be very low-risk. I will also check over the
entire font (bitmap and TrueType versions) before upload.

I need to do a little more research for a bug report, but if there is
a licensing concern it does sound RC and it affects all past versions
of the "unifont" package in Debian, and all past versions of the
Unifont font within and outside of Debian.

Can I make the modifications described above?

I agree. It would be nice, for example, to have lilypond on ia64, which
is also waiting for guile-1.8. It seems to me that there is no big risk
of destabilization on ia64: from that perspective, this is a new
package.

fwiw, it builds fine (once the arch list is updated), and my test

If all that changes is the vocabulary, any update is welcome even late
in the release cycle. And worry not about the autobuilders, I'm told by

Hello release team,

I just uplaoded a new znc build.

These are the changes:

  * Implemented dpatch.
  * Add 01-emb_perl-sys-init3.dpatch patch from upstream svn
(r1155-r1158).
Closes: #495076
  * Merge debian/changelog from the stable 0.045-3+etch1 upload.

As reported in #495076 the modperl extension (embedded) could break with
Perl 5.10.0 and so on I fixed it together with the upstream.

Thanks.

Request for unfreeze of goobox: L10 (possibly + X)

2008-08-18 Thread Helge Kreutzmann
Hello,
since the German translation for goobox contained an error, I
corrected it (and pushed it upstream). Subsequently, I uploaded a new
debian version (2.0.0-3) which has been built by most architectures
already. The full changelog:

goobox (2.0.0-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * L10n upload targetting Lenny
  * Update Arabic translation from upstream SVN
  * Update Czech translation from upstream SVN
  * Update German translation from upstream SVN
  * Update Brazilian translation from upstream SVN

 -- Helge Kreutzmann <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sun, 17 Aug 2008 09:57:04 +0200

This is a pure l10n upload an hence should be acceptable for an
unfreeze.

Unfortunately, just after uploading two bugs have been reported[1], which
both are easy and non-intrusive to fix:

#495492:
Previous upstream versions were able to create mp3 if the necessary
package (not in Debian) was present, this is no longer the case.

The fix is simple: remove README.Debian and Recommends to gstreamer-lame.
Since Lenny users might search for mp3 encoding removing this
information might save them some time. This fix does not alter the
built binary in any way.

#495491:
A certain sequence with the preference dialog makes goobox crash (I
confirmed this on ppc). The patch has been accepted (slightly updated)
by upstream and is attached to this e-mail. While having this fix in
Lenny would be nice (and the fix does not alter much), I understand
that it might not be acceptable. I confirmed that the fix builds and
works on ppc, before upload I would check for building on x86 as well.

Would the RMs accept an upload of -4 including the fix for #495492
(and, if possible, for #495491 as well) targetting Lenny?

If this is not possible I request a freeze exception for -3.

If you need more information do not hesitate to ask.

Greetings

   Helge

Thank you for making an effort to help us here. If having an NPTL

would the RMs also consider unblocking 0.2-pre3-8, which fixes a bug
that's IMHO an RC one ?

Namely, #495500[0] describes how building from source any version up
to -7 can result in different binary packages, depending on whether
python-setuptools is installed or not. The reporter describes how this
breaks upgrades, for instance.

To ensure a consistent build experience no matter the configuration of
the build machine you use, I just introduced a Build-Conflict with
python-setuptools in -8, and that's the only change between -7 and -8:

Freeze exception for telepathy-haze 0.2.0-2 (#495199, #495201)?

2008-08-18 Thread Simon McVittie
May we have a freeze exception for telepathy-haze 0.2.0-2, once it's had its
10 days in unstable? The package has priority:optional, and this upload fixes
two bugs of severity:important.

The diff since 0.2.0-1 (in lenny) is that I've added backported patches
supplied by the upstream author to fix two important-severity bugs:

* #495199: haze sometimes accesses already-freed memory and crashes after a
connection error, most commonly a wrong password
* #495201: haze causes an assertion failure in libpurple if the 'server'
parameter is empty or contains a space

(I also added myself to Uploaders to do the upload - I'm a member of the
maintenance team, I just hadn't uploaded this particular package before.)

Thanks,
Simon

Thanks. And thanks Steve for trying to fix it -- the package needs
general cleanup, but I am glad it at least builds for now.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for testing it! That's interesting. It was always my assumption,
that NPTL would fix a few problems. If this is not the case, then it's
time to look into the glibc/linuxthreads/NPTL coding again. I'll try to
find some time this week to analyze that, but sadly debugging
thread-issues is not easy nor really funny :-(

I have uploaded an updated packaging of plptools-1.0.4. The only changes are
updated debconf .po files to fix translation bugs. (494008, 494134 and

The fixed version has been in unstable for two days already. 1.4.10 is a new
upstream release but:

1. The only real change since 1.4.9.1 is the security fix mentioned above and
updates to translations.
2. The big upstream tarball diff comes from the differences in *autogenerated*
autotools stuff. However, autotools stuff is regenerated each time package is
built anyway so these differences can be safely ignored.
3. Packaging diff from 1.4.9.1-3 to 1.4.10-1 is just a new debian/changelog
entry.

Given the reasons above, please unblock amarok 1.4.10-1 and allow it to
migrate to Lenny. You can of couse delay 1.4.10-1 migration a bit if you want
since the security issue in question is not very critical.

Sorry, missed your reply until now.
It is my understanding that packages that use ruby1.9 also cause the
buildd to fail. In order to keep the buildds building other packages,
the ruby1.9 has been disabled in the buildd chroots. However, I'd
suggest confirming this with lamont before making any proposals based
upon it.

I also investigated the other possibility (killing ruby1.9 on hppa), but
it's not easy, since ruby1.9 is a build-dependency for many packages.
Some of them are Ruby libs and could simply be NFUed as well, but others
are more annoying.

Sources packages affected:
ruby1.9 # NFU
libcairo-ruby # NFU
ruby-gnome2 # NFU (dep on libcairo-ruby)
libdb-ruby # NFU
libexif-ruby # NFU
libfcgi-ruby # NFU
libgpgme-ruby # NFU
libhpricot-ruby # NFU
libinotify-ruby # NFU
mapserver # NMU to remove ruby1.9 package?
ncurses-ruby # NFU
rrdtool # NMU to remove ruby1.9 package?
stfl # NMU to remove ruby1.9 package?

The list was generated manually. It might make sense to process those
packages, and then play with edos-(build)?debcheck to pick up the other
packages.

I won't have time to work on that.

Please unblock aptfs 0.6

2008-08-18 Thread Chris Lamb
Hi -release,

Please unblock aptfs 0.6:

 * debian/changelog entry:

   aptfs (0.6) unstable; urgency=low

* Don't ignore source packages which contain a period (".") in their name
* Remove temporary directory if download fails.
* Move to Debhelper 7.

-- Chris Lamb <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sun, 17 Aug 2008 22:05:14 +0100

 * diffstat for detailed changes:

 aptfs.py|6 +-
 download.py |7 +--
 util.py |2 +-
 3 files changed, 11 insertions(+), 4 deletions(-)

 The corresponding patch is attached.

 * detail:

   - Packages with periods in their names (eg. "linux-2.6") were not present
in the directory listing. This was caused by the '.' character being
treated literally instead of as a metacharacter for a regex.

 util.py |2 +-
 1 files changed, 1 insertions(+), 1 deletions(-)

   - Temporary directories were not being cleaned-up if the download failed.
This is a particular problem if all the remaining disk space was
consumed by the extraction as it is never cleaned up, causing
headaches. This was reported (on IRC) by Tim Retout <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

 aptfs.py|6 +-
 download.py |7 +--
 2 files changed, 10 insertions(+), 3 deletions(-)

   - The rest of the patch is noise from moving to dh7.

Thank-you for your attention (and efforts towards the Lenny release).

Regards,

As an illustration, we were told that the python issue was likely to
be a linuxthread issue, whereas in the end it is probably a way
different issue, related to what caused the glibc FTBFS which was a
glibc problem. I've not rebuilt a python with the test-suite enabled
again on hppa, but I wouldn't be surprised at all (read I'm almost sure
it would work) that it's fixed.

And the bug was absolutely not hppa related, it only was seen on hppa
for some odd reason though. So unless proven wrong, I see still no valid
reason to hide kernel bugs behind a libpthread soname bump.

freeze exception for jifty 0.80408-2

2008-08-18 Thread Yves Agostini
Dear release managers,

Please consider giving a freeze exception for jifty 0.80408-2 to migrate
to lenny. The upload contains a fix for a FTBFS bug[0]. 0.80408-1 was
uploaded only on 29 Jul 2008 [1] and don't arrived in testing, so it's a
new package.
It would be a pity if jifty will not be in lenny while near 20 new
needed dependencies were added for jifty and they will be almost useless
without it.

This is probably not going to happen, and there are two things:
  (1) linuxthreads is mostly pure C, and ruby works fine on kfreebsd

Let varmon/1.2.1-1 enter testing

2008-08-18 Thread Julien Danjou
Dear RMs,

varmon 1.2.0 has been removed from testing because of #491505 some days ago.
This bug is a duplicate of #401236 which anyway, never got *really* fixed and
is affecting etch also on some computer.

varmon 1.2.1 is a new upstream version which *really* fix this issue and
make varmon fully usable again.

Therefore I think you, my dear RMs, should allow varmon to enter
testing after a period of days you will decided, based on your
willing and deep experience of release management. :-)

Pre-approval of bugfix release of bindfs, version 1.8

2008-08-18 Thread Eugene V. Lyubimkin
Hi release team!

Upstream of bindfs package has just released version 1.8, which fixed following
issue:
http://code.google.com/p/bindfs/issues/detail?id=4&can=1. It was not reported
in BTS. I
would treat severity of this bug as important.

Changes between 1.7 (in testing) and 1.8 are tiny:

 bindfs.c | 19 +--
 1 file changed, 9 insertions(+), 10 deletions(-)

Full diff is attached.

Can bindfs 1.8 go to testing?

Hi,

Could you please unfreeze libdirectfb 1.0.1-11 ?

It fixes 2 bugs:
- unicode key handling (bug #401296) usefull for Debian graphical installer.
- DirectFb fails to start in usual case (RC bug #493899).

You can found attached the full diff between 1.0.1-9 and 1.0.1-11.

Request for a exception for swfdec-mozilla and gnash

2008-08-18 Thread Santiago Garcia Mantinan
Hi!

Due to serious severity bug #493307 (swfdec-mozilla: can't use another Flash
plugin in mozilla when installed) and the fact that iceweasel and most if
not all browsers don't implement a good way to select the plugin to be used
to play a content, the maintainers of flash plugins for mozilla have agreed
to implement Debian alternatives to solve this bug.

We have uploaded new packages of swfdec-mozilla and gnash (the two free
plugins), the changes we have done are only the ones needed to support the
alternatives, being the bigger one that on swfdec-mozilla I had to change
the configure options in order to move the plugin to another directory. As
for the nonfree... Marillat has also made the changes to the nonfree plugin
he maintains on his nonfree repo.

The packages sould be in good shape and we feel that fixing this bug is
important because of the dependency gnome has on swfdec-mozilla which
currently means that all flash content will be played with swfdec-mozilla
without an easy way for the user to select any other flash plugin.

If you need any other info on this just ask for it.

Regards...

Exception for debtags 1.7.7

2008-08-18 Thread Enrico Zini
Hello,

I've uploaded a new version of the 'debtags' package version 1.7.7. The
only update from the previous version is shipping an updated version of
the debtags vocabulary, that includes a couple new tags and especially
the updated set of tags for the security team.

debdiff shows to updates to the code, except some updated autotools
files as a result of me rebuilding the package off a new svn checkout.

This upload is intended for lenny, and is important to get the security
team tags to work. The library toolchain used to build debtags is
currently the same in lenny and sid.

In the future we can see about packaging the vocabulary as a binary-all
package, so that if needed we can upload an updated vocabulary shortly
before release without needing to bother with autobuilders: I haven't
done it yet because I'm not sure about a package just to ship 60Kb of
uncompressed text.

Ciao,

Enrico

Running diffstat on the two perl core upstream changes that update
podlators-2.0.6 to podlators-2.1.2 gives

 23 files changed, 460 insertions(+), 194 deletions(-)

but as Russ noted, much of that is new test cases and the like.

I'm a bit out of sync in the discussion because of some trouble with
lists.debian.org accepting my mails. I already sent last night a request
for a freeze exception for the new separate podlators-perl package
as I hadn't had any response to my earlier inquiry quoted above.

Anyway, I'm fine with either way, be it having podlators-perl in lenny
or patching the perl package. Just let me know which one you prefer.

I'm NOT the one one who wrote the above «Dude, the guidelines say
"changes for release goals, if they're not invasive", not "not

Well, whatever. I could create a 2.10.1-1lenny1, just for the sake of
reverting those changes and even though reverting them is pointless,
then push that somewhere else. lenny-update-proposed?

Upload of dpkg 1.14.21 to unstable

2008-08-18 Thread Guillem Jover
Hi,

So, the next upload is ready, there might be still some translation
updates meanwhile, but no other changes for now, if something else comes
up we'll probably queue it for the next upload (which ideally should
only contain translation updates).

Most of the changes have either been pre-aproved, are important fixes,
regressions fixes and/or low-risk to be included. I'm attaching the
debdiff with the uninteresting stuff trimmed down, and links to the git
repo per commit, if you'd prefer each patch attached instead, please
ask and I'll send another mail with them.

If everything seems fine with you, I'll proceed with the upload.

freeze exception for cacao-oj6

2008-08-18 Thread Matthias Klose
proposing a freeze exception for cacao-oj6 for testing. cacao-oj6 is a
copy of the openjdk-6 package with the cacao sources
included. Compared to openjdk-6 on architectures without the Hotspot
JIT support, cacao-oj6 (including a JIT) is a much faster JVM on the
architectures where it does build (powerpc, s390, armel for
now). Discussed this at Debconf with some people. I was told to get
agreement with debian-security about the maintainability (because of
the duplicate sources). See #495256 as well.

Re: hppa in lenny? (Was: Freeze exceptions related to libdb-ruby)

2008-08-18 Thread Helge Deller

Adeodato Simó wrote:

* Lucas Nussbaum [Sat, 16 Aug 2008 14:10:16 -0300]:

ruby1.9 is broken on hppa: 1.9.0.1, that previously built fine (it's in
the archive) exhibits the same problems as 1.9.0.2 and 1.9.0.3.

I spent hours trying to do the hppa porters' work by investigating the
ruby1.9 build failure, with no success (and no help from the hppa
porters, except giving me access to an hppa machine, since hppa doesn't
have any developer-accessible machine maintained by DSA).

In [1], the state of hppa was already raised, and, while no real
conclusion has been drawn from this thread, it seems that, while most
people involved on hppa find it very sad (which I agree with), the right
thing to do is to drop hppa from the list of official archs for lenny,
since it's unlikely to be a "good" stable arch.

So far, I haven't heard any official position from the release team
about that,

hppa has certainly had trouble during this release cycle. However, it's
been mostly reduced to a small set of packages, and since (a) it has not
been the kind of brekage that prevents the release team from doing their
job (alpha buildd outages eg. have been more painful), and (b) the
architecture is not generally broken, it was decided not to use /our/
veto power to kick it out of lenny. (No decision taken for lenny+1 in
either direction, though.)

I realize the ruby1.9 situation is frustrating, but I don't think it's
fair to drop hppa from lenny because of it. I don't think your "it's
unlikely to be a 'good' stable arch" is true either.

Otoh, it's really commendable, and I mean it, that you decided to spend
your time towards having it fixed, rather than just kill ruby1.9 on hppa
as I suggested (which is, tbh, what I would've done in your position).
It really sucks that no hppa person is available to help, but my opinion
is that's still more valuable to release with hppa without ruby1.9 there,
than to drop hppa completely.

So, what I would like from a release POV is to wait at most for this
glibc -14 upload with context-fu on hppa that somebody somewhere said
could fix the issue,

I just looked into ruby19 on hppa.
The makecontext()/setcontext()/switchcontext() functions which went into
libc-ports recently [*2] will not help here.
Instead, I think only when at some point the glibc on hppa switches to
NPTL, ruby could work.

we get that part of the archive on a releseable state.

Probably the best idea, unless my hand-built (and partly buggy) ruby19
binaries on http://gsyprf10.external.hp.com/~deller/ruby/ may help (see
my other mail on the debian-hppa list).

When compiling the list for the security issues I will definetly use

Inclusion of python-fuse 0.2-pre3-7 in lenny

2008-08-18 Thread Sebastien Delafond
Hi all,

I have just uploaded python-fuse 0.2-pre3-7 to sid, thus fixing
#495493[0], a.k.a. "python-fuse deadlocks while unmounting a filesystem".

It is a pretty serious bug, and the reporter reasonably argues that
0.2-pre3-7 should be included in lenny, for the following reasons:

 - breaks other packages
 - one-line patch
 - patch already committed and blessed by upstream[1]

I can only concur, and therefore ask that the release masters consider
unfreezing python-fuse for inclusion in lenny.

Cheers,

packages with build dependencies on openjdk-6-jdk

2008-08-18 Thread Matthias Klose
Unfortunately there is a lot of packages with build dependencies on
openjdk-6-jdk directly, which is a bit unfortunate. Most likely all
packages build depending on openjdk-6-jdk should have RC bug reports
because they may contain 1.6 bytecode. The following should be checked
for the release:

 - if a package build-depends on openjdk-6-jdk or cacao-oj6-jdk,
it should be compiled with `-target 1.4' (or 1.5?).

 - if no target option is used, it should only depend on
   java-runtime6 or java-runtime6-headless.

 - build dependencies should be of the form openjdk-6-jdk |
cacao-oj6-jdk, or else builds will fail on s390.

Freeze exception for octave-ga

2008-08-18 Thread Thomas Weber
Hi,

octave-ga's upstream notified us that the current version in Lenny is in
a bad shape and whether we could update it to current SVN, see

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=495489

Now, before you tar and feather me: upstream uses Lenny himself and has
tested this version on Lenny.

I attach a 'clarified' diffstat: clarified in that I removed changes to
comments (line length changes in license texts account for quite some
stuff), documentation files and unit tests run at build time.

$ diffstat clarified_diff
 __ga_problem__.m | 49 +---
 __ga_stop__.m| 19 +
 crossoverscattered.m |   27 ++---
 ga.m |   58 +++-
 gaoptimset.m |  103 ++-
5 files changed, 90 insertions(+), 166 deletions(-)

There are some new script files in the SVN version, that are not really
accounted in the diffstat, but as these are new functions, there's no
chance of a regression.

Full diff attached.

I've had a look at this now, and it has really only served to remind me how
much I dislike debugging code written in assembly. If it's certain that all
packages in the archive that depend on atlas are also supposed to work with
blas, then I'm ok with dropping atlas/alpha for lenny; cc:ing debian-alpha,
though, in case someone else feels differently and is willing to work on
fixing the problem.

Cheers,

unblock adjtimex (testing *and* unstable)

2008-08-18 Thread James R. Van Zandt

I maintain the adjtimex package, and am also the upstream developer.

I don't understand the status of the package. I uploaded 1.25-1 on Aug 10:

  adjtimex_1.25-1_i386.changes uploaded successfully to localhost
  along with the files:
adjtimex_1.25-1.dsc
adjtimex_1.25.orig.tar.gz
adjtimex_1.25-1.diff.gz
adjtimex_1.25-1_i386.deb

However, the QA site lists 1.24-1 as the version in unstable, with no
version in testing. 1.24 works with most machines, but fails for
certain new hardware (freezing during installation).

http://release.debian.org/migration/testing.pl?package=adjtimex says:

  * adjtimex has no old version in testing (trying to add, not update)
  * Ignoring high urgency setting for NEW package
  * Ignoring request to block package by freeze, due to unblock request by
freeze-exception
  * adjtimex (source, i386, alpha, amd64, arm, armel, hppa, ia64, mips, mipsel,
powerpc, s390, sparc) has new bugs!

I assume the bug report against 1.24 is preventing it from propagating
to testing, in spite of the unblock request. I don't know why 1.25
isn't entering unstable though.

1.25 closes three bugs, and 1.26 (just uploaded) incorporates a fix
supplied by Alain Guibert for another problem he had noticed (though
there was nothing in the BTS yet). Detailed descriptions of the
changes are appended, in the form of a commented diff between 1.24 and
1.25, and the patches from Alain Guilbert.

I would like to see 1.26 released with Lenny. I planned to submit an
unblock request after it had spent ten days in unstable. However,
that won't work if new versions can't even enter unstable. Please let
me know if there's something I should do about that. (Upload with
higher urgency?)

 - Jim Van Zandt

-- changes from 1.24 to 1.25

The significant changes are upstream, to fix important bugs 477637 and
474337 (freeze during installation because the read of /dev/rtc
blocks). Here is the Debian changelog entry:

adjtimex (1.25-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release. Set an alarm to avoid blocking even if /dev/rtc
never becomes readable, then fall back to busywait. New --nointerrupt
option to force busywait without first waiting for the interrupt
timeout (thanks to Alain Guibert). (closes:Bug#477637,Bug#474337).
Update man page (closes:Bug#435956).

Set an alarm to prevent blocking. If interrupts don't come within two
seconds, fall back to busywait access.

Implement new option "--nointerrupt" to use the busywait access method
immediately.

Before, adjtimex would try /dev/rtc and /dev/rtc0. Now add three more
options as in hwclock: /dev/efirtc for ia64, /dev/misc/rtc for devfs,
and /dev/misc/efirtc for devfs on ia64.

Re: guile-1.8 (1.8.5+1-2) recommended for lenny

2008-08-18 Thread Rob Browning

So Marc, what do you think about this? I'd be tempted to go with the
upstream code, and add support ia64, but I could also understand
taking the more conservative approach, taking out the patch, and
leaving ia64 support for unstable.

Thanks

Freeze exception for podlators-perl/2.1.2-1

2008-08-18 Thread Niko Tyni
Hi release team,

please consider giving a freeze exception for podlators-perl/2.1.2-1
to get the 'pod2man --utf8' functionality in Lenny. Note that this is
a new package not currently in testing.

Some background can be found in #480997 and the thread spanning

 http://lists.debian.org/debian-perl/2008/07/msg00109.html
 http://lists.debian.org/debian-perl/2008/08/msg00012.html

Summary: the etch version of pod2man lets UTF-8 through as is, but
the current lenny version turns them into 'X's and the like. The etch
behaviour was undefined and unsupported, but somewhat understandably
users (including the po4a and debconf packages) have been relying on it
for translated man pages.

I think having the newer Pod::Man and pod2man in a separate package
overriding those in the Perl core would be a less invasive change than
patching the core versions. This is not a stopper, though, and I'd be
OK with the other option too if you prefer that.

The UTF-8 output would be opt-in at least for lenny; packages needing
it would have build-depend on podlators-perl and add '--utf8' to the
pod2man options.

This is #480997; the newer Pod::Man also fixes #448204 and #480565.
It would also enable a fix for #492037 by making perl-doc depend on
podlators-perl and adding the '--utf8' to the pod2man invocation
behind the scenes.

Cheers,

As discussed in #494677, fixing the CGI.pm bug in perl-modules (tracked
as #494679 and waiting for 5.10.0-13 to get in lenny first) should take
care of the original non-deterministic libapache2-mod-perl2 FTBFS bug
(#480154) still present in testing. I don't think we should work around
the problem in libapache2-mod-perl2 at this point.

For reference:

#480154 libapache2-mod-perl2: non-determistic FTBFS: cgiupload tests fail
#494677 libapache2-mod-perl2: FTBFS: dpkg-checkbuilddeps: Unmet build
dependencies: libcgi-pm-perl (>= 3.33)
#494679 perl: $ENV{TMPDIR} breaks CGI.pm in taint mode

Hope this clears it up :)

seeking approval for reprepro 3.5.2-3

2008-08-18 Thread Bernhard R. Link
I've prepared reprepro 3.5.2-3 incorporating the fixes in reprepro 3.6.1.
As 3.6.1 is in experimental, this could go via unstable if approved.

It fixes three bugs, all not in the BTS:

- Ctrl-C support for some operations got lost in 3.3. This causes a
locked database if the user is too impatient.
- the reoverride command was totally broken in multiple ways
(causing an assertion in some cases, reporting out of memory
erroneously otherwise, putting things in an uncommon position
and ignoring section and priority which are for override the most
intresting, because of blindly c&p code from elsewhere).
- interaction with libbz2 had a bug in dealing with libbz2 needing
multiple calls to finish compression. (It returns BZ_FINISH_OK
instead of BZ_RUN_OK then. Dunno if something in libbz2 changed
or some user just had very bad luck to run into this. It causes
reprepro to abort when trying to export an distribution).

The debdiff follows (files permuted to make it easier to read):

The straight diff between podlators 2.0.6 and 2.1.2 is fairly substantial
(32 files changed, 609 insertions(+), 289 deletions(-)), but quite a lot
of that is documentation changes, test suite improvements to catch the
problems that were fixed, and that sort of thing. The baseline, which
still includes quite a few documentation changes and some reformatting,
is:

 lib/Pod/Man.pm | 175 -
 scripts/pod2man.PL |   95 ++--

I haven't yet tried to extract out just the code changes; it's
unfortunately not completely trivial since we still do need the
documentation change to include the --utf8 option. I suspect that it
would be around 100 lines of total diff.
