Release team input on developers-reference patch
Hello, I have written a patch for the developers-reference where I update the chapter about debian developer's duties. Most notably I have added that a maintainer ought to support the (stable) release process by collaborating with the release team. Charles Plessy is worried that my text would not be in sync with your point of view. That's why I would like you to review my proposed changes: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=15;filename=0003-Document-duties-to-wort-towards-the-next-stable-rele.patch;att=3;bug=548867 Do you have objections to this text? Even if you have none, it would be great to acknowldge it so that I can commit it with confidence that I'm not mis-representing the consensus. Yes, the patch works with older versions of dnsmasq, including the one from squeeze. According to dnsmasq upstream, the conf-file-without-arguments functionality was already available in 2.39, which is four years old. So, pretty safe from that pov. SE Linux policy update
I'd like to include a new version of the SE Linux policy in the Squeeze point release. I've pasted in the changelog from the new version I just uploaded to Unstable which is the same as the one I'd like to get in Squeeze. The user friendly change list is that this makes USB flash storage devices usable by default on the desktop, Iceweasel works correctly, upowerd is run correctly in the devicekit_power_t domain, KDE mysqld access works, fetchmail works as a daemon, Xen starts DomUs on boot, and NetworkManager and similar programs (such as wicd) give more functionality. These are all serious updates that can be considered as "a truly critical functionality problem" for some users. I've attached a full diff between the version in Squeeze and my proposed update. Please let me know what else I have to do to get this included. refpolicy (2:0.2.20100524-8) unstable; urgency=low . * Add tunable user_manage_dos_files which defaults to true * Correctly label /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1/xulrunner-stub * Allow mozilla to create directories under /tmp * Use correct label for /usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconfd-2 and load gnome.pp on installation if libgconf2-4 is installed * Use correct label for /usr/lib/upower/upowerd * Dontaudit bind_t write attempts to / for lwresd calling access(".", W_OK) * Allow user domains to execute mysqld_exec_t, for KDE * Allow user_dbusd_t to execute gconfd_exec_t in user_gconfd_t. * Label /var/lib/fetchmail as fetchmail_uidl_cache_t and allow fetchmail_t to search /var/lib and manage fetchmail_uidl_cache_t dirs * Allow xm_t to read kernel image files, needed for DomU startup on boot * Allow gpg_agent_t to read etc_t files and sysctl_crypto_t. * Allow network manager to run wpa_cli_exec_t programs. -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Bloghttp://doc.coker.com.au/ diff -ru /tmp/t/refpolicy//debian/changelog ./debian/changelog --- /tmp/t/refpolicy//debian/changelog 2011-03-11 23:19:40.337436375 +1100 +++ ./debian/changelog 2011-03-11 14:29:09.565411812 +1100 @@ -1,3 +1,22 @@ +refpolicy (2:0.2.20100524-8) unstable; urgency=low + + * Add tunable user_manage_dos_files which defaults to true + * Correctly label /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1/xulrunner-stub + * Allow mozilla to create directories under /tmp + * Use correct label for /usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconfd-2 and load gnome.pp on +installation if libgconf2-4 is installed + * Use correct label for /usr/lib/upower/upowerd + * Dontaudit bind_t write attempts to / for lwresd calling access(".", W_OK) + * Allow user domains to execute mysqld_exec_t, for KDE + * Allow user_dbusd_t to execute gconfd_exec_t in user_gconfd_t. + * Label /var/lib/fetchmail as fetchmail_uidl_cache_t and allow fetchmail_t to +search /var/lib and manage fetchmail_uidl_cache_t dirs + * Allow xm_t to read kernel image files, needed for DomU startup on boot + * Allow gpg_agent_t to read etc_t files and sysctl_crypto_t. + * Allow network manager to run wpa_cli_exec_t programs. + + -- Russell Coker Fri, 11 Mar 2011 14:28:58 +1100 + refpolicy (2:0.2.20100524-7) unstable; urgency=low * Allow crontab_t to create a directory of type crontab_tmp_t, necessary to diff -ru /tmp/t/refpolicy//debian/postinst.policy ./debian/postinst.policy --- /tmp/t/refpolicy//debian/postinst.policy 2011-03-11 23:19:40.337436375 +1100 +++ ./debian/postinst.policy 2011-01-17 14:42:35.052961684 +1100 @@ -90,6 +90,7 @@ 'finger' => [ 'finger', '*fingerd' ], 'ftp' => [ 'ftp', '*ftpd' ], 'gitosis' => [ 'gitosis' ], + 'gnome' => [ 'libgconf2-4' ], 'gpg' => [ 'gnupg' ], 'hddtemp' => [ 'hddtemp' ], 'hwclock' => [ 'util-linux' ], diff -ru /tmp/t/refpolicy//policy/global_tunables ./policy/global_tunables --- /tmp/t/refpolicy//policy/global_tunables 2009-07-23 04:15:30.0 +1000 +++ ./policy/global_tunables 2011-01-17 13:04:07.996933057 +1100 @@ -104,3 +104,10 @@ ## ## gen_tunable(user_tcp_server,false) + +## +## +## Allow users to manage files on dosfs_t devices, usually removable media +## +## +gen_tunable(user_manage_dos_files,true) diff -ru /tmp/t/refpolicy//policy/modules/apps/gnome.fc ./policy/modules/apps/gnome.fc --- /tmp/t/refpolicy//policy/modules/apps/gnome.fc 2010-03-05 03:51:48.0 +1100 +++ ./policy/modules/apps/gnome.fc 2011-01-17 14:41:34.352998066 +1100 @@ -5,4 +5,8 @@ /tmp/gconfd-USER/.* -- gen_context(system_u:object_r:gconf_tmp_t,s0) +ifdef(`distro_debian', ` +/usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconfd-2 -- gen_context(system_u:object_r:gconfd_exec_t,s0) +', ` /usr/libexec/gconfd-2 -- gen_context(system_u:object_r:gconfd_exec_t,s0) +') diff -ru /tmp/t/refpolicy//policy/modules/apps/gpg.te ./policy/modules/apps/gpg.te --- /tmp/t/refpolicy//policy/modules/apps/gpg.te 2010-05-25 05:31:36.0 +1000 +++ ./policy/modules/apps/gpg.te

The current stable release is 2.1.1 (in experimental) which could be uploaded without a problem to unstable. But I wanted to make it clearer and keeping it in testing, so uploading 2.0.12-1 to unstable is more a like a workaround to have a presentable package. Also the 2.0 series is feature stable and maintained for over a year now to make stable-release-updates possible. If you are this unhappy with the Mono.Options patch it could be "unpatched" with quilt. (but this would lead to an untested state while the current one is) But if there is no other way this should clearly go into squeeze-backports then. Nevertheless this is an upstream bug-fix-only release. Regards, Rico signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
[SRU] update for powertop in 6.0.1
Hey, I would like to close one important bug in powertop, which affects the usage on newer kernels (e.g. 2.6.37), as powertop will segfault on such kernels due to too small buffer (see #610101). Please see my attached patch for powertop 1.11-1+squeeze1 Greetings Winnie diff -u powertop-1.11/debian/changelog powertop-1.11/debian/changelog --- powertop-1.11/debian/changelog +++ powertop-1.11/debian/changelog @@ -1,3 +1,10 @@ +powertop (1.11-1+squeeze1) stable; urgency=low + + * Fix segfault on newer kernels with large config files. +Thanks to Mel Gorman (Closes: #610101) + + -- Patrick Winnertz Fri, 11 Mar 2011 11:22:33 +0100 + powertop (1.11-1) unstable; urgency=low * New upstream release diff -u powertop-1.11/debian/patches/00list powertop-1.11/debian/patches/00list --- powertop-1.11/debian/patches/00list +++ powertop-1.11/debian/patches/00list @@ -1,0 +2 @@ +increase-configlimit.dpatch only in patch2: unchanged: --- powertop-1.11.orig/debian/patches/increase-configlimit.dpatch +++ powertop-1.11/debian/patches/increase-configlimit.dpatch @@ -0,0 +1,38 @@ +#! /bin/sh /usr/share/dpatch/dpatch-run +## increase-configlimit.patch.dpatch by +## +## All lines beginning with `## DP:' are a description of the patch. +## DP: No description. + +@DPATCH@ +diff -urNad '--exclude=CVS' '--exclude=.svn' '--exclude=.git' '--exclude=.arch' '--exclude=.hg' '--exclude=_darcs' '--exclude=.bzr' powertop-1.11~/config.c powertop-1.11/config.c +--- powertop-1.11~/config.c 2011-01-15 11:51:23.0 + powertop-1.11/config.c 2011-01-15 11:58:55.494107143 + +@@ -33,7 +33,8 @@ + #include "powertop.h" + + /* static arrays are not nice programming.. but they're easy */ +-static char configlines[5000][100]; ++#define MAXCONFIGLINES 1 ++static char configlines[MAXCONFIGLINES][100]; + static int configcount; + + static void read_kernel_config(void) +@@ -49,6 +50,8 @@ + char line[100]; + if (fgets(line, 100, file) == NULL) + break; ++ if (configcount >= MAXCONFIGLINES) ++break; + strcpy(configlines[configcount++], line); + } + pclose(file); +@@ -77,6 +80,8 @@ + char line[100]; + if (fgets(line, 100, file) == NULL) + break; ++ if (configcount >= MAXCONFIGLINES) ++ break; + strcpy(configlines[configcount++], line); + } + fclose(file); signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

That's not how stable updates work in Debian. If the mono 2.8 fixes were small and we were happy to accept the rest of the diff as-is, they'd probably sneak in. Neither of those are the case, and I'm not happy ignoring over 1000 lines of new code relative to the current stable package which don't actually fix any problems in stable. > All these changes already gone through quite some testing by people > using our stable ppa > (https://edge.launchpad.net/~docky-core/+archive/stable) That doesn't appear to contain any packages for squeeze? As such, it's okay for general testing but not really relevant for a stable update in Debian. >> I'm afraid that that's the case right now. Even after that's occurred, your proposal still appears to be a direct backport to stable of the package that would be uploaded to unstable. That would likely be suitable for squeeze-backports, but wholesale backports are not generally appropriate for stable updates.
